The whistle-blower, who helped the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission recover the $43m, N23.2m and £27,800 (N13bn) from an Ikoyi apartment on April 12, 2017, has finally been paid his commission, The PUNCH has learnt.

It was also learnt that the whistle-blower travelled out of the country less than 24 hours after receiving part of the N421m reward.

The whistle-blower’s lawyer, Mr. Yakubu Galadima, confirmed the development to our correspondent on the telephone on Wednesday.

He praised the government for finally honouring its agreement after eight months.

Galadima also joked that his client did not run mad after receiving the money as predicted by some government officials.

He, however, said his client had not been paid in full, adding that the Federal Government had promised to pay him the balance next year.

The lawyer said, “My client confirmed to me that he had received a credit alert from the Federal Government. He travelled out of the country this morning (Wednesday morning).

“He has been paid the first instalment but there were many tax deductions. Yes, we are happy. I will give you more details later but I can confirm now that he has received some money.

“As you can see, my client did not run mad as predicted by Prof. Itse Sagay.”

Galadima said the Federal Government’s decision to pay his client was an evidence that his client was the real whistle-blower out of the others that had been laying claim to the money.

At least three persons have laid claim to the commission including one Abdulmumumuni Musa, who has sued the Minister of Finance and the Attorney General of the Federation.

A House of Representatives member has set the social media agog after she shared a photo of Christmas gift that she bought for her husband, Punch NG report.

In a Facebook post, Kawira Mwangaza shared a photo of the top of the range car — a Prado — she bought for her husband, Murega Baichu, a musician.

The Kenyan lawmaker said her husband supported her during her toughest battles, hence the gift, which is valued at Ksh 15 million (N52,252,950.00).

She also promised to use her salary to help over 1,000 disadvantaged families in Meru county.

In the post, she wrote, “To the special brave man who has fought the toughest battles to see me happy, please, Murega Baichu, humbly appreciate my gift for Christmas.

“As you drive this car, remember to thank God; and always remind me to serve my people and to keep my pledge to lift lives.

“This Christmas, God has blessed me to bless others, especially the disadvantaged. In this case, from my own earnings, I will bless over 1,000 families within Meru county and show them mother’s love.”

Her husband, Baichu, who was overwhelmed by the gift, replied, “Happy is the man who finds a true friend, and far happier is he who finds that true friend in his wife.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Tuesday warned prospective candidates for the 2018 UTME to be wary of fake past questions in CDs being circulated in the country.

The board made the call in a statement, signed by Mr Fabian Benjamin, the Head of Media, made available to the newsmen in Abuja.

JAMB, while disassociating itself from the circulated papers, said that the items were “intended to dupe unsuspecting candidates’’.

“The fake past questions in CD Rom entitled; “JAMB PRO CBT practice software for UTME” was purported to have emanated from JAMB in other to give credence to the products.

“This is also made by the producers to perpetuate their nefarious activities.

“JAMB wishes to dissociate itself from the production and sale of the fake CDs and warned the public to be vigilant and avoid being defrauded.’’

The board said it had not authorised any individual or groups to do so on its behalf.

It added that preliminary investigation conducted showed that the past questions were fake and had no iota of semblance to the board’s question papers in context, content or form.

“As a responsible and responsive organisation, we will not be part of any ploy to defraud innocent candidates.

“We have put machineries in motion to our outlets and service providers not to be used as channels of exploitation or distribution of such fake items.’’

The board reiterated its commitment to continuously ensure that candidates applying for its examination were not misled, while calling on them to also avoid fake online sites.

It, however, urged intending candidates to study hard for the examinations and channel all enquires to any of the board’s offices nationwide for any redress, challenges or information. (NAN)

The Spanish 23-year-old beauty, who met the legendary footballer in a high-end boutique a year-and-a-half ago, poses for HELLO! in a series of tender images with her first child and says of their relationship: “It has definitely brought us closer. We’re happier together than ever.”

The baby, who was born in a Madrid hospital on 12 November, is Ronaldo’s fourth child.

He also has a seven-year-old son Cristiano Jr and twins Eva and Mateo, who were born earlier this year.

“The children are our joy,” Georgina tells HELLO! “We wake up and the first thing we do is hug and kiss them, put them in their little chairs and watch them while they have their breakfast, make sure they have everything they need, and so on all day long. This is a very special time for us all.”

Georgina says she and Cristiano chose the baby’s name together and that the 32-year-old player has been incredibly supportive throughout her pregnancy and the birth.

“I’m very proud of him,” she said. “When we got home from hospital, he’d organised a surprise dinner, with all our nearest and dearest. I felt like the luckiest woman in the world.”

And she says they are incredibly happy together.

A young mum gave birth to the world’s fifth “mermaid baby” but lost it just hours later.

According to Brainnews Radio, Muskura Bibi, 23, gave birth to the baby with Mermaid Syndrome or Sirenomelia, a rare condition which causes deformity.

The baby, whose gender could not be established due to its fused legs, was only the second youngster born with Sirenomelia in India.

But doctors were unable to keep the baby alive on Wednesday and it died four hours after its birth.

One suspect has been arrested after an explosion near New York City’s Port Authority bus terminal on Monday morning, the New York Police Department has said.

NYPD said several people were injured, stating that a device went off and there was a person strapped with a bomb.

NYC Office of Emergency Management tweeted there was “police activity” near West 42nd Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues and advised commuters to expect delays.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said President Donald Trump has been briefed about the incident.

President Trump had repeatedly shown his disapproval towards the immigration policy of the United States of America. Trump had said America would be safer without immigrants from certain countries, which he banned entry from.

Real Madrid and Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo on Thursday night pipped Barcelona’s talisman Lionel Messi to win the 2017 Ballon d’Or.

The number 7 picked up his fifth Ballon d’Or award to equal Messi’s record and bring the pair’s duopoly of the award to a staggering 10 years.

The 32-year-old was the top-scorer in last season’s Champions League as Real successfully defended the trophy with victory over Juventus in June, and also led the Spanish giants to their first La Liga title in five years.

“Of course I feel happy. This is something I look forward to every year,” Ronaldo said at the ceremony at the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

“The trophies won last year helped to win this award. Thanks to the Real Madrid team-mates. And I want to thank the rest of the people who helped me reach this level.”

Ronaldo, who also won the FIFA Men’s Player of the Year award in October, added the 2017 Ballon d’Or to his previous wins in 2008, 2013, 2014 and 2016.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) said it has begun registration for the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) registration.

JAMB said the registration would take place in over 700 computer-based test (CBT) centres in 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
This was disclosed by the Head of Media, Dr Drian Benjamin on Thursday in Abuja.

He said the exercise would end in February next year.
Dr. Benjamin urged candidates to register within this time frame, noting that the board would not extend the registration period.

The statement reads: “We will also want to state clearly that the board does not post candidates to any examination town other than the one chosen by the candidate at the point of registration.

“Candidates are, however, advised to register on time before the available spaces in their town of choice are exhausted.
“The registration exercise started on Wednesday 6th December, 2017 and as at today so many candidates have text their names using their phone numbers to 55019 and got their profile registered. After which they equally proceeded to the CBT centres for registration.

“The exercise from our tour of centres today clearly showed that this is one of the best registration regime of the board in recent time. It is easy, smooth and hitch free. This system is simple and convenient, candidates are requested to do it themselves to avoid being defrauded by anybody.

“Candidates can purchase the e -pins using their ATM or through Interswitch, Remita and other online platforms at the comfort of their homes.

“The Board offices are available for any challenge encountered by candidate while trying to obtain the e -pin to register for the 2018 exercise.

“Candidates who desire to register for the optional mock are also urged to do so as the platform will be withdrawn by the 30th of December, 2017 and only those who registered and indicated their interest on or before that time will be enlisted to participate.

“The board again reiterated its avowed commitment to conduct a hitch free examination and advance the cause of any Nigerian child desirous of qualitative tertiary education in the country. This is the beginning of the 2018 process.”
