Politics / Akwa Ibom: Senator Akpabio Regrets Making Udom A Governor (see Reason) by FastestTech(m): 1:39pm On Jan 16, 2018
Former Governor of Akwa Ibom state and the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has told his Annang cabal that the greatest mistake he has made in his life was to have made Udom Emmanuel his successor in 2015 against all odds and warnings by some well meaning people within and outside the state.

Akpabio made this known in a meeting held on Monday to review the ongoing onslaught against him by his Successor. “I regretted that I am being mocked by those I bulldozed in the build up to the 2015 polls to make Udom Emmanuel my Successor”.

He vowed to take Udom pound of flesh at the 2019 polls. He told the meeting attended by his Annang brothers that, “sacking Sir Etekamba Umoren as the SSG, Governor Udom has crossed the red line and has dared me”.

Attendees of the meeting blamed the former Governor for not hearkening to the voice of reason in the choice of his successor and regretted that the government has been hijacked by those who never contributed anything to its emergence while those that staked so much to ensure the success of 2015 agenda were pushed out of the government simply because they are identified as Akpabio boys.

The meeting expressed shock that the governor could sponsor, direct and encourage people to launch media attacks on his person.

Those who attended the meeting were carefully selected and they reaffirmed their support for their leader and resolved to follow him wherever he would lead them in 2019. [Calabar Reporters]

Abasiodiong Eyo Inyang, Akwa Ibom Teen Queen Dethroned For Releasing Semi-nude Photos & Smoking In 20th Birthday Photos

After series of photos parading the social media space weeks after her coronation, Miss Abasiodiong Eyo, winner of Mr/Miss Akwa Ibom Teen, 2017/2018, has been dethroned by the Akwa Ibom State Teenagers Forum for releasing semi-nude photos on her birthday, CALABAR REPORTERS gathered.

The President of the Forum, Comrade Martins Jimmy, in a statement made available to IBOM REPORTERS said the organisation believes in maintaining high moral standards describing the attitude of the former Queen as infantile.

He maintained that the “semi-nude” photographs released by Miss Abasiodiong Eyo Inyang was entirely an exuberance of her own and never represented the views, positions, or primary focus of Akwa Ibom State Teenagers Forum, saying Miss Eyo must have been obsessed with the Miss Akwa Ibom Teen Crown given her on November 10, 2017.

His words, “That Miss Abasiodiong Eyo has been dethroned as the 2017 Queen of Akwa Ibom Teenagers Forum and excommunicated from the Forum, forthwith. Ours is a Forum, committed to raising the bar in pageantry, with high moral etiquettes, and as such, has zero tolerance for indiscipline in any form, whatsoever.

“That a new Queen, Miss Meggy Linus has been appointed and will be crowned within 48 hours of the Release. Miss Linus was the First Runner-up at the 2017 Edition of Mr/Miss Akwa Ibom Teen.”

“We sincerely regret any inconvenience the puerile behaviour of our former Queen may have caused the general public, while also urging social media users to refrain from tarnishing the image of Akwa Ibom Teenagers Forum,” he added.

Miss Abasiodiong Eno Inyang, Saturday, shocked fans and friends, when semi-nude photos of herself went viral on social media. The former Teen Queen left her chest bare in some photos, while smoking in another photo.

He said this in an interview with HipTV, adding that he’ll be releasing them soon.

Efe who is currently enjoying his new status in the entertainment industry added that it’s impatience that has stopped Nigerians from enjoying his music.

He became known through a lifestyle platform, he said, so it was sort of a surprise for people that he’s doing music.

He however thanked Nigerians for liking his most recent song “I Love You.”

Crime / Armed Robbers Burnt To Ashes In Akwa Ibom (Graphic Photos) by FastestTech(m): 5:30am On Jan 09, 2018
Suspected armed robbers numbering two were on Wednesday, 3 January, 2018 burnt to dead by angry mobs after they were caught by youth in Obong Itam, Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

An eyewitness who spoke with Brainnews Radio on condition of anonymity said the suspected robbers, on the early hours of Wednesday attacked one Mr Jones Akpan, shot him in the hand before disposing him of cash and other valuables.

Brainnews Radio also gathered that the victim raised an alarm immediately the robbers had left which attracted youths of the area who have been keeping vigil due to incessant attacks in the community.

“The youths in their numbers immediately mobilized and gave the suspected robbers a hot chase. They were caught, beaten to a pulp and set ablaze. As you can see, they’ve been burnt to ashes. The rate of crime in this community and the whole of Itu has been on the rise.”

When our correspondence visited the community, the charred remains of the suspected robbers were still littered at the scene of the incident, but residents of this area are now living in fear of reprisal attacks.

Politics / Nigeria Among 10 Cheapest Places To Buy Petrol In The World – Punch by FastestTech(m): 1:44am On Jan 09, 2018
With a pump price of N145 ($0.40) per litre, Nigeria has been ranked as the eighth cheapest place in the world to buy petrol.

Other countries among the cheapest places to buy petrol are Venezuela ($0.01), Turkmenistan ($0.29), Kuwait ($0.35), Iran ($0.36), Egypt ($0.37), Algeria ($0.37), Ecuador ($0.39), Bahrain ($0.42) and Syria ($0.44).

The average price of petrol around the world is $1.12 (N403.2) per litre, according to GlobalPetrolPrices.com, which publishes data on retail fuel prices around the world and tracking over 150 countries on a weekly basis.

In its latest weekly global fuel price review (January 2, 2018), it noted that the international oil benchmark, Brent crude, reached $66.9 per barrel during the past week.

“The crude oil price increase pushed up the retail fuel prices around the world and the world average gasoline (petrol) price increased to a level of $1.09 per litre. The world average diesel price also went up by a cent,” it stated.

The report noted that the beginning of 2018 was marked by retail fuel price changes in many countries with regulated fuel markets, but the most significant petrol price change was observed in Algeria, where the government approved a 17.5 per cent increase of the official annual retail price of petrol.

It said the European average petrol price was $1.46 per litre, marking a 0.5 per cent weekly increase.

Petrol prices also went up by 1.2 per cent in the United States; 0.9 per cent in Africa; 0.7 per cent in Asia; and 0.4 per cent in Canada. But in Australia, petrol prices decreased by 1.3 per cent, while the average regional petrol price of South America remained unchanged compared to the previous week.

There was a decrease in 13 of the 107 reviewed countries, no change in 54 countries, and an increase in 40 countries.

Petrol prices went down by more than one per cent in Finland, Cape Verde, Australia, the Cayman Islands and South Africa, while the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, France, and Pakistan saw more than three per cent increase in prices.

The report said, “As a general rule, richer countries have higher prices, while poorer countries and the countries that produce and export oil have significantly lower prices. One notable exception is the US, which is an economically advanced country but has low gas prices.

“The differences in prices across countries are due to the various taxes and subsidies for gasoline (petrol). All countries have access to the same petroleum prices of international markets but then decide to impose different taxes. As a result, the retail price of gasoline is different.”
