1738: Replays suggest that the throw-in that led to Rovers' equaliser came after Jason Roberts and not John Terry put the ball out of play. Perhaps that is why Terry is so frustrated. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/8578714.stm |

Mosquito 'vaccinates as it bites' A genetically-engineered mosquito that vaccinates as it bites has been developed by scientists. Experts believe "flying vaccinators" could be a radical new way of tackling malaria. However, a strategy that allows the uncontrolled mass delivery of vaccines via biting insects could raise ethical objections. Each year malaria claims between one and two million lives around the world, mostly of African children. The disease is caused by a single-celled parasite spread by the Anopheles mosquito. Scientists have looked at a number of ways of genetically modifying the insect to stop it transmitting the organism. They include making male mosquitoes infertile, and creating a malaria-free insect that will out-survive the carriers. The new approach, the most radical yet, targets the salivary gland of the Anopheles mosquito. Scientists in Japan have engineered an insect producing a natural vaccine protein in its saliva which is injected into the bloodstream when it bites. The research is reported in the journal Insect Molecular Biology. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20100319/thl-mosquito-vaccinates-as-it-bites-d831572.html |
CHELSEA GOALS TO NET CASH FOR SPORT RELIEF Chelsea players have an added incentive to grab the goals on Sunday. Premier League sponsors Barclays have agreed to donate £1000 for every goal scored and an extra £500 for every shot on target during the weekend to support Sport Relief. Chelsea's Football in the Community coaches will also be supporting the Sport Relief effort by backing Sunday's Sport Relief Mile on Victoria Embankment in London, offering soccer skills sessions for kids as well as Chelsea pedometers for the runners. Visit them in Temple Place and join in the fun! Nicolas Anelka (pictuerd earlier in the season with Michael Essien) says: 'We are challenging all Chelsea fans to do your bit for Sport Relief and enter Sport Relief Mile in London. By taking part you will be raising cash to help people who live unimaginably tough lives every day.' Kevin Wall, managing director of Barclays says: 'It's fantastic that we are able to harness the excitement of the Barclays Premier League to raise money for Sport Relief. We know that top flight English football is all about attacking play, competitiveness and goal scoring and we hope that the Sport Relief Weekend proves to be a record breaker for goals and fundraising. http://www.chelseafc.com/page/LatestNews/0,,10268~1998551,00.html |
