13 Killed in Fresh Jos Massacre Residents of Biye and Batem villages in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State have fled into Jos city following a fresh attack by Fulanis in the early hours of yesterday. But state Governor Jonah Jang has appealed for calm, saying the state government is taking measures to deal with the recurring conflict. There were conflicting reports as to the number of dead people. Some 13 people, most of them women, were said to have been gruesomely murdered and several others injured. But a statement from the military said nine people were killed in Biye and 13 houses burnt in both communities. The statement also revealed that seven people have been arrested. The attack, it was gathered, followed the pattern unleashed on Dogon-Nahawa village recently. Some of the weapons recovered from the assailants included short guns with cartridges, bows and arrows, machetes, knives, and cutlasses. Five people that were severely injured are reportedly receiving treatment at the Vom Christian Hospital. A pregnant woman was burnt with a baby on her back while others had either cutlass wounds on their heads or gunshot wounds on their chests. One Mr. Yohanna Dalyop, who escaped the attack, claimed the Fulanis, some in military camouflage uniform, struck at about 2am yesterday morning. According to him, some of those who escaped were shot as they fled. He described his experience as horrifying. Meanwhile, in a press statement signed by his Director of Press, Mr. James Mannok, Governor Jang assured the people that the government is taking necessary measures and exploring all possible avenues to unmask the perpetrators and bring them to justice. He appealed to the residents to remain calm. The Governor has also warned that the attack on the state threatens the corporate existence of the country. Jang, who gave the warning yesterday afternoon in Jos when he received the National leadership of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), however, said his people would resort to self-help. ?Something must be done otherwise, when the people feel they cannot be protected, they will have to rise and defend themselves and I don?t think it will be good for this nation,? he stated. ?So I want the church to rise and let it be known that something has to be done to stop this carnage. There is no particular group that has the monopoly of violence. This is because the youths have become very agitated, it may get to a time that we cannot control them any longer. ?And so something must be done to save the situation otherwise, it becomes uncontrollable and this nation will be portrayed in bad light. It is believed that some key people in this nation are behind it and in fact, some international communities are involved. ?I don?t want to keep talking about the security personnel. Three days ago, I had a meeting with all of them and just today, there is an attack. Well, the military is my constituency; I will leave it for Abuja to judge,? he added. When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Lerama Mohammed, said the military and not the police is leading security operations in Jos. The police, he explained, are only playing a supportive role. He advised THISDAY to contact the military. The military reacted through a press statement. The statement titled ?Another Carnage Averted by Special Task Force Troops? and signed by Brigadier General Donald Oji, said the Special Task Force in charge of security operations has arrested seven people. ?Troops of Operation Safe Haven have successfully averted another attempt to massacre people in Biye and Batem communities in Riyom Local Government area of Plateau State. The assailants, armed with dangerous weapons attacked the two communities simultaneously at about 1 am on Wednesday. But for the timely intervention of troops deployed at the Riyom area, carnages would have carried out in the two communities,? he added. The statement continues, ?Although no casualty was reported at Batem, however nine people were killed at Biye while 13 houses were burnt in both communities before the arrival of the troops who were alerted through the Special Task Force help lines. Meanwhile, seven of the assailants have been arrested while troops are still on the trail of more of them. Items recovered from the assailants include three locally made short guns with cartridges, bow and arrows, machetes, knives, and cutlasses." The military reassured the public that it would continue to carry out its duties effectively and within the ambits of the law. It however appealed to the public to refrain from utterances that are capable of causing disaffection. A member representing Riyom constituency in the state House of Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Damboyi Jugul, who spoke at the scene of the attack said: ?Today is the darkest day of my life. What I?ve seen with my eyes is beyond imagination?. Jugul, who lives in Riyom town, headquarters of the local government, said the sound of gunshots in the village woke him up in the middle of the night. ?I quickly called the Speaker of the House, Hon Istifanus Mwansat, who also contacted the security agents to draft men to the place, but before they got there, the attackers had gone,? he said. Jugul further stated that, ?there?s no need for soldiers to be in our midst any longer; I can?t believe that we have security posts in four different locations here in Riyom and yet this has happened to us. We have lost confidence in them. We want them to be withdrawn from here. We are capable of protecting ourselves?. Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Dan Majang, who hails from the local government, said: ?As a matter of fact, it beats my imagination because this has happened repeatedly during curfew hours. The confidence of the people on the security agents has been eroded. And now, the people would want to defend themselves.? The Commissioner for Information, Hon. Greg Yenlong, described the incident as a serious security challenge. ?It is sad and unfortunate that we are faced with similar killing as in Dogon-Nahawa, just one week ago. Let me advise our people to begin to take precautionary measures. You must not go to sleep because this is not time to sleep. You must organize yourselves into vigilante groups to protect yourselves. It happened last week; we are witnessing it again this week, and we don?t know what?s going to happen tomorrow. You must sit up and organize yourselves,? he stated. One of those who fled from the villages to Jos, Mr. Moses Dung, said he is in Jos with his family for good, notwithstanding that he left his farm and property behind in the village. ?If I remain in the village, the Fulani will attack us; now that I am in Jos, we may die of hunger. But we prefer to die of hunger to dying in the hand of the Fulanis,? he said. Earlier, PFN President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejeafor, said they had come to share in the grief of the state and to tell the government and the people that they were not alone. Oritsejeafor later led the governor and his cabinet members in a prayer, asking God to end the cycle of killing and restore lasting peace to the state. http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=168836 |
RESERVES TOPPLE CHARLTON AT COBHAM Chelsea's second string were victorious in an entertaining friendly against Charlton at Cobham on Wednesday, but are left counting the cost after a serious injury to defender Carl Magnay. The defender's knee gave way shortly into the second half with nobody around him, and the prognosis is not good. Coach Steve Holland was understandably concerned following the 3-2 win over the Addicks, in which Jacob Mellis scored our first and Fabio Borini notched twice. http://www.chelseafc.com/page/LatestNews/0,,10268~1998086,00.html |
Nateevs, I ask again, what is the guarantee that you will win something even after 10 years? Arsenal FC! hello? Again, I repeat, this is a wish, a plan but not a CERTAINTY! Yes we should rebuild but systematically. We don't necessarily have to stay "off" the radar. As for Torres, I could care less where he plays but to say it is NOT possible is going too far! |

nateevs:This is a wish not a certainty. |
Orilee9ice:Brilliant! What about Second Chance? ![]() |
nateevs:And you think other teams/clubs will wait for you while you rebuild? Rebuilding can take more than a year or two. . .hope you know that? Agreed though, we don't have to spend just for the sake of spending. |
ritchboy:You think this is not possible? Figo no join Real? |
tkb417:There is always an element of truth in most cases. Not that I believed them completely. |
https://i42.tinypic.com/255uog0.jpg ROMAN ABRAMOVICH will give Carlo Ancelotti £100MILLION to rebuild the Chelsea team - and that will include a bid for Fernando Torres. The Blues owner met his coach at the club's Cobham training ground yesterday to discuss plans for buying new players. It was their second face-to-face chat in 24 hours. They also met after Tuesday night's defeat by Inter Milan, when Ancelotti was told his job is safe. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/2897028/Roms-100m-Chelsea-rebuild.html |

@BD, you dey mind them? |
@ Nateevs, How can you say you are not blaming the players? Are you praising them? Come off it mate. You said this before GH came that the players are old, they should be sold etc and that it was not Scolaris fault. . the same players that went on to dazzle afterwards? Even DD was resurrected! Malouda was on TOP of his game. How do you explain all these? Have you said something I didn't say before? I also said siddon approach look was a negative approach. Only Ibime in his "typical" wisdom felt otherwise. Whose fault? Carlo's fault. You just said it. And you say everyone is blaming Carlo except you. I fail to see your point. Transfer policy had no bearing on yesterday's game. Even Spurs could have won that match . No I'm not taking it too far. That match was our to win with the right approach. I wouldn't say they (Inter) were spectacular. They simply played to instruction. End of. . .Ok. Lets agree to disagree. Until we buy new players, we should forget about any trophy for decades to come. Is that what you are saying? |
Enough of hypertensive posts sef. EPL is up Next. |
And Joe Cole? What sort of player puts his hands on his hips most of the time? |
nateevs:Nateevs, I disagree completely. Did you not also blame Amodu during his tenure. Tell me the difference between the 2 last night. Carlo was never in control of that match. He is the manager and he takes the responsibility. If managers don't share in the blame/glory,if they dont have any bearing in the outcome of a match why hire them in the first place? According to Moratti (Inter President) Mourinho was the "man of the match". What does that tell you? The team should take the blame. And that includes both the players and the coach/manager. It will be a gross mistake to exclude either. I don't understand why you always try to blame only the players. You blame the players forgetting that Carlo should know them better. If he selected them, then he prolly "knew" what he was doing. nateevs:Essien should never have played that match. Other players were fit. Why risk him? An injury to a "less" important player wouldn't have attracted any complaints. nateevs:Carlo has won nada for us. We are waiting. I don't think I ever strongly blamed him until last night because I was hoping he was going to win this for us. For the club. How can we as as a club live in the shadows of JM? 4 managers since he left and nothing serious to show for it? nateevs:Until JM came, I don't think many Chelsea supporters complained this much. The man simply brought the winning mentality by all means necessary. You cannot fault that. It is the right way to think that we can win it (not that it is our birth right). nateevs:Every manager goes through this and Carlo is not no novice. He is a "veteran" in this game. Zola, Roberto etc would have been excused but Carlo? I asked you, when was the last time he made a "perfect" sub? nateevs:Re-building you say? The owner will not allow this. He wants trophies and in a stylish manner forgetting that it doesn't always work that way. We all laugh at Arsenal, dont we? So Yes winning will always be more important than re-building. At least for now. My thinking was that Carlo would win the UCL with his experience and this will obviously satisfy the "ageing" players. We can let them ago. . .no egos bruised. Thereafter, we can start to rebuild. And if we don't win anything immediately after, we would have had a concrete excuse. When JM came, he had a mandate to win by all means. And he did employing the not so popular style of play. He was heavily criticised but we all loved him because he got the "right" results. All of a sudden RA wanted "sexy" footie. . .the rest they say is history. nateevs:No but I can tell you for a fact that he was NOT fully fit. Essiens knows this. Carlo knows it too. Carlo makes mistakes, all managers do. Why do you want to deny the obvious? |
Certainly most of the players were rubbish yesterday and Anelka was the BIGGEST disappointment on the night. However, Carlo has a hand in this. He simply had no antidote on JM. How bad is that? How can we sell Essien? It's Carlo fault that Essien couldn't play. He played him in a carling cup game. I mean, what nonsense. Again, I question Carlo subs. I can't remember when last it paid off. We can now concentrate on the EPL which, to be honest is more than a priority. |
^^^ Because Niger came to sell moi-moi on the pitch abi? ![]() |
The Inter coach also mentioned his relationship with Carlo Ancelotti: "With Carlo there have sometimes been a few words too many, but there's no realtion between the respect and the few exchanges of words that there have been between us. He gave me some Italian wine today and I brought him the wine of my country. He invited me to his office after the game, there's a good relationship. I hope he wins the Premier League, I don't want to remain the only coach who has won it with Chelsea." http://inter.it/aas/news/reader?N=33471&L=en |

deb:Are we now saying we should close/stop the league? |
I went to bed last night and couldn't get this fiasco off my head. Sleep no gree quick come. damn it, we coulda, shoulda have won this. Carlo fall for my hand no be small. This was a match that was all about JM, made for JM, through JM and for JM. All Carlo had to do was to "teach" him (JM) a lesson. Show him that this is your "home". Show him whoz the boss. One would have thought that Chelsea played away last night. I was hoping we could just shut him (JM) up for good, but no, Chelsea messed up. @Ibime, maybe it wasn't purely about tactics but about attitude. Them boys went to the pitch with the wrong frame of mind and I dare say it was due to the "wait-till-the-last-minute-and-score". Who does that? We couldn't dictate the tone of the match. We did not play the possession game just as we did not go for goals. . .what were they doing on the pitch? We were never in control bar the last 5-10 minutes or so of the first half. JM/Inter can afford to defend all day to go through, whereas we needed to score. Why sit back? An early goal would have brought life into our boys. Its called confidence but instead they played with fear at the back of their minds. And predicting JM formation/line-up is no rocket science. We all knew that. How to counter that was the question. You chose to sit back instead of attack. Attacking would have forced Inter to make mistakes. We were denied stone wall penalties on both occasions. That is a FACT! Either way, It's back to the drawing board. |
The Lord is GOOD! |
NO long thing. . .ain't nothing we can do about that now. EPL is up next!!! WE must concentrate on that. |
