Nigeria pick Lagerback
Nigeria have picked Swede Lars Lagerback and signed him on an initial 5-month deal to take the Super Eagles to the World Cup in South Africa later this year.

Lagerback, who coached his native Sweden for nine years, was picked ahead of fellow Swede Sven Goran Eriksson, Englishman Glen Hoddle, Serb Ratomir Djukovic and Frenchman Bruno Metsu.

The Swede was the last of the five candidates to arrive Abuja and was interviewed on Friday afternoon.

The executive committee of the Nigeria Football Association subsequently went into an eight-hour meeting before announcing Lagerback as the new coach.

I'm by no means trying to say Rubin is better than Barca (only an i.diot will say that) but the point here is this. . .
It is goals that brings you victory. . .not possession. geddit?
Take a chill pill, you know nowt.

He did assist/pre-assisted some of your goals this season. I don't have the time to break this down for you and it's a pity you won't get those stats from anywhere. Watch our matches from MD1 and you will see that some of our attacks start from Cech. His ability to distribute is second to none in the EPL.
Hilly will be between the sticks for some 3-4 matches. Watch him.
Heck, why am I even on this? I don't know how many people will ever believe that Hilly is better than Cech in kicking the ball?  undecided
Meanwhile, I asked you to provide the stats on the goals we conceded 'cos of Cech's long balls. Do you have them now?
He slowed down the attack? How?
Drogba was useless against Inter. His first touch was abysmal.

DD was better than Nic in our match against Inter.
If I were to rate them. . .
DD = 6
Nic = 2.
Nic gave most of the ball away and did nothing with the possession you are talking about. Go back and watch the match.

Why try to keep possession when you can easily do a 1-2 GBAM?!?

He scores goals n we'r all happy, but, there are tyms wen all he need do is 2 play a simple pass 2 d person next 2 him but he won't. Rather, he wasts 2 dribble d ball past other playas and 9.99 tyms out oif 10, he loses out.

Its only against useless playas like Assnal's that he dribbles. Kapish
And I think you got that wrong. Nic is the main culprit in that aspect. Even Nateevs will agree with me.  grin

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Mourinho: Genius Or Fluke by FBS: 8:55am On Feb 26, 2010
Mourinho's mental magic

Say what you like about Jose Mourinho, but he certainly knows how to make a statement.
The Portuguese manager did not celebrate either of his side's goals as Internazionale beat Chelsea 2-1 in their Champions League second round first leg in Milan, as a mark of respect to his former club.

Just when a fresh dose of canny sound bites and sly digs at his opposite number in the pre-match build-up was in danger of veering into self-parody, Mourinho gave a magnanimous display in the Inter dugout as his team put the quarter-finals in their sights.

He is too shrewd to do anything that might dent his popularity with his adoring fans at his former club. When visiting supporters milling around the Piazza del Duomo are chanting a former manager's name, some two-and-a-half years after he left, you know they must be doing something right.

It is clear that there is an enmity between Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti, but there was little air of self-satisfaction in his reactions during or after the match.

All of which must grate with Ancelotti much more than any overtly brash celebrations would have done.

The latest man to step into Jose's shadow at Stamford Bridge saw at first hand how, no matter how well he is doing in his first season at the club, he has a long way to go before he is judged on his own terms by employer, media and fans alike.

There was something saddening about seeing such an intelligent and dignified man return to the scene of so many of his past glories and seem so utterly isolated. This is the kind of effect that no manager other than Mourinho can have on an 85,000-seater stadium.

The real worry for the Chelsea boss now is that the same effect will take hold of the return leg in West London, only magnified. The media clamour seen in Milan will increase tenfold as Mourinho feeds line after line to an enraptured press pack just grateful to have him back, if only for a fleeting visit.

There will no doubt be more quotes about how he plans to return to Chelsea one day, perhaps adding how he regards London as his home. He may reveal how he phoned Petr Cech to check up on his injury scare right after the first leg, describe the Manchester City job as an exciting challenge, or mischievously endorse Rafael Benitez while stressing how he has never experienced troubles like his one-time counterpart in his own career.

And all this will preface the hero's welcome he will inevitably receive when he walks out on to the turf in SW6. It's just a shame that, such is the protracted nature of the trudge through the last 16, we have to wait three weeks for it to happen.

I value possession more than hopeless kicks in the name of clearing danger.
Cech's distribution is poor. He has 2 left feet. grin grin
Thanks, you answered correctly. Hilly should learn from that.
You value possession, I value GOALS.
Possession = VICTORY/GOALS? Capital NO!
GOALS, GOALS, GOALS = VICTORY/WINS!? OH YES!

Hilly's short kick to a Chelsea player in the match against Inter almost cost us dearly, so keep your theory to yourself. I know what I know.

You can never underestimate the power of Cech's kicks. Just as you wouldn't do with Berbash$t. His (I must admit) beautiful pass to Valencia aided Rooney's goal against WH.

@Ibime,
I have to agree with you to some extent but my only question is this, how come they (DD and Nic) combined well and with fluidity at the beginning of the season?
Certainly, something is not going right lately (since DD came back from ANC) with Nic, any time DD is on the pitch.
I thought Nic was supposed to play wide right but he constantly runs through the center of defence. Why?
Uncle Carlo has to solve it.

@Sauron, it is not true that DD gave the ball away more than Nic in that match. In fact the reverse was the case.
He needlessly slowed down the attack, gave the ball away or the attack simply came to a halt.
It is either Uncle Carlo finds a solution or drop one of the strikers for the other. . .but sell him? Capital NO!

Foreign Affairs › Libya's Gaddafi Urges 'holy War' Against Switzerland by FBS(op): 7:26am On Feb 26, 2010
Libya's Gaddafi urges 'holy war' against Switzerland

Libya's Muammar Gaddafi has called for a jihad, or holy war, against Switzerland, as an ongoing diplomatic row between the two nations heats up.

He criticised a recent Swiss vote against the building of minarets and said Muslims must boycott the country.

There have been tensions between the nations since 2008, when one of Mr Gaddafi's sons was arrested in Geneva, accused of assaulting two servants.

A Swiss foreign ministry spokesman declined to comment on the jihad call.

The Libyan leader made his comments while speaking at a meeting to mark the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad.

"Let us wage jihad against Switzerland, Zionism and foreign aggression," he said.

"Any Muslim in any part of the world who works with Switzerland is an apostate, is against Muhammad, God and the Koran."

In a referendum last November, 57.5% of Swiss voters approved a constitutional ban on the building of minarets. An appeal against the ban has been submitted to the European Court of Human Rights.

Charges dropped

Earlier this month, Libya stopped issuing visas to citizens from many European nations, prompting condemnation from the European Commission.

Hannibal Gaddafi's arrest in 2008 sparked the diplomatic spat
Libya's move came after Switzerland allegedly blacklisted 188 high-ranking Libyans, denying them entry permits. The Swiss ban is said to include Mr Gaddafi and his family.

The row began after the arrest of Mr Gaddafi's son Hannibal and his wife, Aline Skaf, in Geneva in July 2008.

They were accused of assaulting two servants while staying at a luxury hotel in the Swiss city, though the charges were later dropped.

Libya retaliated by cancelling oil supplies, withdrawing billions of dollars from Swiss banks, refusing visas to Swiss citizens and recalling some of its diplomats.

In the same month that the Gaddafis were arrested, Libyan authorities detained two Swiss businessmen, in what analysts believe was a retaliatory move.

One was finally allowed to leave the country earlier this week but the second was transferred to jail, where he faces a four-month term on immigration offences.
