And now that there are no more sponsors? What do we expect from the league? That said we have had situations in Europe where salaries were also not paid and I don't think anyone said anything. Do we expect local players to develop with such comments? Is he saying that it is not even worth playing at home? Me thinks some words of encouragements will do just about fine. . . If our players don't play abroad, tell me where would he have picked his players from? -yes from the same bastardized league, no? |

Jonathan to dine with Eagles Vice-president Goodluck Jonathan is expected to be the chief guest of honour at Monday’s Appreciation Dinner for the Super Eagles being organised by the Nigeria Football Federation. The event is billed to take place at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja on Monday night. Also in line to share tables and cutlery with the Super Eagles are senate-president David Mark and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Dimeji Bankole. “This Appreciation Dinner is being held in honour of the Super Eagles for the great honour they done the country through their qualification for the African Cup of Nations and the World Cup finals. When you appreciate people, they feel great and are ready to even do more the next time. “We are hoping the players and technical crew will feel motivated by this show of love by all Nigerians as they look ahead to very important competitions in the coming year,” chairman of the Committee set up by the NFF to organise the Dinner, Barrister Musa Amadu, said at the weekend. http://www.kickoff.com/static/news/article.php?id=13003 |
Amodu laments 'difficult' ANC timing Nigeria coach Shuaibu Amodu has questioned the timing of the Africa Cup of Nations, lamenting that it makes it difficult for coaches of African national teams to put in enough preparation time with their respective teams. "The Nations Cup timing is not helping us in Africa," Amodu said. Africa's flagship competition takes place bang in the middle of the European football season, where the majority of African players earn their living. According to Fifa Regulations, the clubs are only obligated to release the players for pre-tournament camping 14 days before kick off. But that figure usually comes down to about 10 days, especially with players coming from the English Premier League and Amodu suggested that the Confederation of African Football should take a second look at the situation. "CAF should look at it so it gives us more than two weeks to prepare because the current situation is causing difficulties for us." In spite of that difficulty, however, the under-pressure coach is still determined to make a push for the trophy. "I think we can win it. Every coach goes into a tournament with the ambition of winning it. "I have been given a semifinal target, but I can’t just stop there. We have to do our best to bring the Cup home." And Amodu is under no illusions about his job should his team fail to perform well in Angola. "The Nations Cup will be a pointer to what the World Cup will be. "Some have said that it will determine my fate, but I am not even thinking about that." http://www.kickoff.com/static/news/article.php?id=13010 |
