Nigeria still to decide on Martins for Afcon Nigeria will decide on the fitness of striker Obafemi Martins by the end of Friday before finalising their squad for the Orange Africa Cup of Nations finals, the Nigerian Football Federation said. Martins was being examined by Nigerian medical staff in Durban to determine the extent of his recovery after surgery on a shin injury picked up in November while playing for his German club VfL Wolfsburg. If he was not considered fit to make the 23-man squad, he would be replaced by Chinedu Obasi of German club Hoffenheim, Nigerian press reports said. ANCELOTTI: MONEY MATTERS Carlo Ancelotti has welcomed news that Chelsea Football Club's financial losses have decreased while stating that if he doesn't spend on transfers in January, it will not be to save money. Despite reports in some newspapers, the manager is clear he did not promise to go unclothed outside should a new player be signed in January, but a new arrival is still not in the plans. ![]() On the 2009 financial report, news of which was released yesterday, Ancelotti said: 'I am not a financial man but I am happy for this because it is important for a club to maintain its accounts in a good situation, and if Chelsea reduced the losses it is good. 'It is not true that the club said we don't want you to buy new players,' he added. 'Together we take a decision to maintain this squad because we think that this squad is a good squad, is able to play the games that we will have in January and we have the possibility to give an opportunity to the young players if necessary. We have young players and I have said I want to use those players in January. 'This is a decision we take together but if there is a necessity to buy a new player, we can do it. It is not financial.' Ancelotti also explained that he has to consider whether new arrivals mid-season could upset the balance of the squad when the four players return from Africa, and added: 'I think it is difficult to buy top players at the moment because the teams that have top players keep them.' http://www.chelseafc.com/page/LatestNews/0,,10268~1919267,00.html |
