FMDQ data indicated that the Naira depreciated to N1,234.49 per US dollar on Monday compared to N1,169.99 on Friday.

Similarly, the parallel forex market tumbled to N1200 per Dollar on Monday from N1,100 on Friday.


The development comes after the Naira depreciated three times last week after months of gains.

Recall that the Economic and Financial Crime Commission resumed clamping down on cryptocurrency platforms in Nigeria amid the recent rise of the Dollar in the FX market.

Although analysts blamed the depletion of Nigeria’s foreign reserves for the Naira depreciation, the Central Bank of Nigeria, Governor Olayemi Cardoso, said it is due to foreign loan repayment.


As of April 15, the country’s FX reserves dropped to $32.29 billion.

This transfer was outlined in a NERC order dated April 22, 2024, marking a significant step towards empowering state-level regulatory capabilities.

The move stems from constitutional amendments signed into law on March 17, 2023, which shifted certain powers from the federal to state governments, allowing them to independently manage electricity generation, transmission, and distribution within their jurisdictions.

The official announcement was made through an order dated April 22, 2024, where NERC outlined the transfer process, aligning with the broader legislative changes under the amended Electricity Act 2023

This new entity will handle the intrastate supply and distribution of electricity, ensuring that the state’s energy needs are met independently of national grid constraints.
IBEDC has 60 days from the order’s issuance to incorporate this subsidiary and is also tasked with delineating the actual geographic boundaries of Ekiti’s electricity network, including installing boundary meters to manage the transition from state to national grid connections.
Moreover, IBEDC SubCo is required to obtain a license from EERB for its operations, highlighting the state’s newfound authority over its electricity market.
What this means for Ekiti State
This transfer of regulatory powers is expected to foster greater efficiency, accountability, and responsiveness in the management of electricity services in Ekiti State.

People are dying everyday for more serious ailments because they can’t access hospitals. People have diabetes, kidney issues, liver issues, heart diseases, cancer, BP, labour complications, Hiv, Brain issues, Lung disease, etc, some need to go to other states to access hospital services… They are dying in numbers and no one is counting them because you are counting Corona.

We were told the symptoms of Corona are cough, catarh, difficulty in breathing, and the mortality rate is very minimal which we have seen in the results NCDC have been releasing.

These symptoms things people have been suffering from and we have been managing them well here in hospitals here in Nigeria, we have seen people with difficulties in breathing and they were treated.
