Thousands of Nigerian students will be meeting in Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt on Wednesday, 30th October to discus their future given the endless ASUU Strike. This motion is endorsed by thousands of Nigerian students who are tired of the "politics" played by the Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and "obviously encouraged" by National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) officials. According to this fraction of Nigerian Students, ASUU do not have the interest of students at heart otherwise they will indulge the students before embarking on any strike. The Federal Government also are insensitive to the plight of students to have stalled for so long. The venues of the meetings are: Abuja - Old Parade ground, Area 8, Garki; Lagos - Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos Island; Port Harcourt - The park opposite Air force junction, near Happy Bite. The time is 10am prompt. All Nigerian students, well meaning persons from the public, media and NGOs are welcome. There will be no violence, it will be an elite meeting to foster unity and coherence amongst students. The strike must end. Please help spread the news SOURCE: http://diamondodey..com/2013/10/an-important-message-from-national.html?m=1 |

“My questions to all dem girlz trynna be like AfroCandy (1) Do you still live in Nigeria with no hope of getting a visa to travel out? That’s messed up you know? (2) Are you yet educated? if not pls. do something about it asap b4 you chose which path to follow. (3) Do you have a back up plan, exit route, contingent plan meaning if the showbiz thing doesn’t work out you fall back on it? If you don’t, that’s bleeped up you know? (4) Have you ever been married? If not, I guess you should wait until you’re done with that cos guess what, most local Naija guys are typical, they may hail you just to get in your pants but will be ashamed to let anybody see you with them in public not to talk of marriage, unless you’re lucky to end up with foreigners. So with all that being said, I’ll advice you to get your asses together b4 you try to be like me for I have done all the above and even more, at this point of my life, I’m not looking for a husband or boyfriend, already married once and had kids, got nothing lose now, lived my life and still leaving….so abeg make una think twice o….meanwhile, if you are a member of my ‘Ikebe Squad’ I will train you…Good-Luck !” SOURCES: http://diamondodey..com/2013/10/indecent-star-afro-candy-writes-letter.html?m=1

Some members of the late Ikemba Nnewi, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu’s family have alleged that the widow of the deceased, Bianca, is greedy by laying claim to some assets of her late husband. In a 19-paragraph statement of defence filed before a Lagos High Court, Igbosere, the Ojukwu Transport Limited and seven family members challenged Bianca to prove her claims in the suit which she instituted on behalf of her two underage sons. The two sons – Afamefuna and Nwachukwu – are the claimants on record in the suit numbered, LD/1539/2012. The Ojukwu Transport Limited, which is the property in dispute in the suit, is the first defendant. Other defendants, apart from OTL, are Prof. Joseph Ojukwu, Emmanuel Ojukwu, Lotanna Ojukwu, Dr. Patrick Ojukwu, Mr. Edward Ojukwu, Lota Ojukwu and Mrs. Massey Udegbe. The relatives stated that, contrary to the allegation of the claimants, for over 12 years prior to the death of the deceased, the late Ojukwu had moved to Enugu State and had not lived at any of the property since then. Their statement of defence read, “The property belongs to the first defendant (Ojukwu Transport Company). The fact is that the claimants’ mother, being greedy, felt she could hold onto the first defendant’s property. “For over 12 years prior to his death, the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu moved to Enugu and since then had not lived at the first defendant’s property as alleged by the claimants.” They challenged Bianca’s children to show proof of “any agreement which their late father had from the first defendant (OTL) for him to control and/or manage the property of the first defendant.” Bianca, who is Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain, had instituted the suit on behalf of Afamefuna and Nwachukwu urging the court to declare that the two underage children were entitled to some assets belonging to the Ojukwu Transport Limited. She wanted the court to declare that her children were entitled to occupy and take possession of the company’s property at 29, Oyinkan Abayomi Street, Ikoyi, Lagos “until the harmonisation of the management and administration of the assets of the first defendant (OTL)”. In addition, they urged the court to declare that they were entitled to possess their father’s property at 13 Hawksworth Road, Ikoyi (now known as 13, Ojora Road); 32A, Commercial Avenue, Yaba, Lagos; 30, Gerard Road, Ikoyi, Lagos; and 30, McPherson Avenue, Ikoyi. But, in their statement of defence, the seven defendants, through their lawyer, George Uwechue (SAN), stated that the claimants’ statement of claim contained “tissues of lies and distorted facts.” At the resumed hearing of the suit on Wednesday, counsel for Bianca and her children was not in court. The development necessitated Justice Funmilayo Atilade to adjourn the suit till December 10. The judge had adjourned the matter for adoption of written addresses on an application filed by the claimants seeking to restrain the defendants from the property in dispute. Bianca’s children had through their lawyer, Chris Ezugwu, prayed the court to declare as illegal the threat of forceful ejection from 29, Oyinkan Abayomi Street by the defendants. This is a press statement from the Federal Ministry of Finance about the ongoing ASUU strike. It's been four long months (Quite shameful I must add) with no apparent resolution to the conflict in sight...and some people are blaming the Minister of finance Dr Okonjo Iweala for what's going on. Some people in ASUU have been distributing flyers with abusive messages against Dr Okonjo-Iweala and now the ministry is issuing a statement about it, saying the minister is not the problem. I'd rather read about when ASUU is calling off this strike to be honest. Find the press statement below Contrary to some recent media reports, the Federal government has not adopted a take-it-or-leave-it approach in its negotiations with ASUU. Rather, the approach is focused on positive engagement and achieving sustainable solutions to the challenges facing higher education in the country. That is why President Goodluck Jonathan recently appealed to ASUU to respond to government’s positive steps by calling off its strike in the interest of suffering students and parents. Despite this, for several days now, some elements in ASUU have been distributing pamphlets and flyers with abusive and inflammatory messages against the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in mosques and other places. This is taking academic unionism to a new low and infusing it with unnecessary politics. I am sure majority of ASUU members are not in support of this. These messages are directed at using falsehood to demonize the Minister as callous and unsympathetic to the plight of students and parents. The major lie being peddled in the pamphlets and flyers is that Dr Okonjo-Iweala has insisted on a “take-it-or-leave-it approach” in the negotiations with ASUU. Nothing could be further from the truth. Dr Okonjo-Iweala is the daughter of two retired professors and her father is presently a member of ASUU’s Board of Trustees and has been one for a long time. She speaks with her father everyday on the issue so how can be insensitive to issues concerning the sad state of tertiary education in the country? She understands and sympathizes with the plight of both students and lecturers. She wants our children back in school as soon as possible. Remember she is a mother and two of her young relatives are sitting at home due to the strike. This is why government is working hard, under the leadership of the President, to seek practical and sustainable solutions to the challenges facing higher education in Nigeria. The President has made available N100 billion a year in the first instance to repair hostels, laboratories and classrooms and other facilities. An offer has also been made to ASUU of N30 billion towards their earned allowances. In fact, negotiations have even gone further than this. This is the first time, in years of negotiating with government, that significant sums of money have been put on the table for ASUU and universities on this particular set of issues. The Coordinating Minister is fully part of this. Against this background, ASUU elements who want the strike to continue should have a heart and rethink their current take-it-or-leave-it approach to negotiation. Government has demonstrated its commitment to improving the university system. And it is even ready to do much more going forward. ASUU should listen to the voice of reason and the yearnings of Nigerians on this issue.
