Thank you all.

Summary of findings so far, will let you know which route I finally take!

(Mine) Route 1: Abuja - Benin - Onitsha - Port Harcourt - Calabar 890km (553 miles)
Merry go round?
Israelite journey

(Mine)Route 2: Abuja - Lafia - Makurdi - Enugu - Umuahia - Aba - Ikot Ekpene - Calabar 981km (610 miles)
ABA HAS A REPUTATION FOR BAD ROADS, MUST NOT TAKE!

(Mine) Route 3: Abuja - Lafia - Makurdi - Gboko - Ogoja - Four Corners - Ugep - Akampka - Calabar 842km ( 523 miles)

(Mine) Route 4: Abuja - Lokoja - Ajaokuta - Oturkpo - Enugu - Calabar 1013km (630 miles)

(Kingreign) Route 5: Abuja - Lokoja - Ajaokuta - 9th Mile - Umuahia - Ikot Ekpene - Odukpani - Calabar 877km (545 miles)
Very simple route,
allows for getting to destination on time,
must take umuahia via umidike road to Ikot Ekpene NOT ABA!
-1 vote lonelydora

(dokoloye) Route 6: Abuja - Lokoja - Ajaokuta - Enugu - Abakaliki - Abaomege - Itigidi - Calabar 850km (528 miles)
shortest route,
apart from small stretches of bad rods in Ajaokuta and around Amudo to Abaomege in Ebonyi,
very smooth less than 15% is bad roads,
good for dry season, TAKE ROUTE 7 IN THE RAINY SEASON
+1 vote lonelydora
Abakaliki Abaomege very dusty
similar to route 7 but shorter

(nathanjnr) Route 7: Abuja - Lokoja - Ajaokuta - Enugu - Okigwe -Afikpo-Amasiri - Abaomege - Itigidi - Ugep - Calabar 900km (559 miles)
good roads especially during rainy season better than route 6
similar to route 6 but shorter

I know the route to Calabar like the back of my hands. I will always suggest you follow the way I told you cos that's where I always take and I get to Calabar within time range I calculated. I wish you're going during Easter, I could have driven my car along while you drive yours. Convoy things.
How many hours does it take you to do the journey?

I love convoys smiley

Google maps will be of much help
Used print outs from Google Maps before, but strictly speaking can it do navigation? Turn by turn instructions?

When u get to Enugu do Okigwe turn right through ABSU to Amasiri very Good roads. Amasiri to Aba Omege to Itigidi to Ugep. then do Ugep to Calabar. getting to PH is a merry go round whatever be the route.
Absolutely agree, no need to go to port.

Also no need to go to Benin

Your route adds 31 miles (approx. 50km) compared to dokoloye

That's approximately an hour's drive, is the route better in terms of road network quality?

Is this the same route as dokiOloye but in greater detail or a variation of that route? Or an altogether different route entirely?

Thanks for your time.

dokiOloye:
Take Abuja to Lokoja-Ajaokuta-Enugu-Abakaliki-Abaomege-Itigidi-Calabar.
That should be d SHORTEST route.
Ask about d bypass to Enugu town when U reach Opi junction in Nsukka.
Apart from small stretches of bad roads in Ajaokuta and around Amudo to Abaomege in Ebonyi state,d rest is generally smooth.
Thank me later.
Seems indeed the shortest as you say.

Your route in pictures, Bing did not recognize Abaomege which is in Onicha LG, hence the substitution

Thanks for helping out

Bros, if you're going to Calabar, take Ajaokuta, thru 9th Mile, thru Umuahia, thru Ikot Ekpene, thru Odukpani to Calabar. Very simple. No go Makurdi or Benin City or PH na Israelite Journey be that o.
Thanks. So much.

Basically i am asking because I need to have an idea of road conditions, because I would rather take a longer rote, if I can maintain 130km/hr than a short route that causes me to do an average of 40km/hr to 60km/hr because the road is not good.

Thanks again.

So option 1 and 2 and 3 are out, seems it is option 4 you recommend
