Mekurexx:
Sorry guys my transcript is coming in late. truly truly in America 24hrs dont seem enough. First day of orientation and I have been busy and stressed! I'm actually not in my accomodation now but my Nigerian & african brothers here in school have been really supportive. I mean its great to see your fellow africans being very helpful and trying to help you get settled as quickly as possible. I dont have access to my laptop cuz my laptop charging is 3-mouthed instead of the US 2-mouthed, went to Walmart and they didnt have it. seems I gotta be borrowing till I finally get mine.
Its been an amazing but stresful 72hrs for me. I have been learning how to smile like every 5mins, trust me its needed so they wont see you as boring grin I'm not much of a good story writer but just know being an international student in the US, you are treated as exotic! Its left for you to utilize and enjoy the unlimited opportunities and experience thats available! wink

A big hands for you bro
I guess this forum was meant for people to ask questions about what they didn't know or understand, but come to think of it some people will rather insult you than assist you, according to what you said bro you are right and that's why we have individual diffences, some people might like to keep some info about them unsaid and thats what will call privacy lo, be kind and always have it in mind helping other's make life beautiful
Enjoy your stay in USA and i wish you success in your study IJN.
sureb0y:
Just passing by. I'm slowly getting over the culture shock, life has been beautiful. yesterday marked a week since I got to my school. I'll do a brief review of my stay so far. Can't believe I've only been in America for a week, it's like I left Nigeria decades ago. This is not me badmouthing or bashing my country but Nigeria sucks big time. From the leaders to the common citizens, darn... you people are rotten from top to bottom. Forget corruption now, I'm talking about the general behaviour of a person. People are so nice where I live, I can't even start to explain. It's like a general, unwritten rule here that YOU MUST BE KIND TO OTHERS. I'm loving it and trust me, it's new to me. May God forgive me, whenever someone does something nice to me here, I secretly think they're just pretending but I'm slowly getting to know it's just their nature. 2 ladies offered to chauffeur me around yesterday (for free and it lasted about 4 hours), one gave me $100 cos my stupid bank card stopped working, the other paid for my walmart shopping: $150. They even took me to lunch and paid over $25 for the food after they had helped me set up my apartment! They were so nice!

School starts today, I expect it to be the only downside of my stay here hehe. I don't like school so I don't expect it to be fun. Right across my window, on the other side of the road is a branch of The Redeemed Christian Church of God. I'll go there next week and see what they have to offer. I learnt those church people can epp person with some ogbonge package (read between the lines, don't dull). To all the efikos in the building, I'll have something for you tomorrow when my lectures start.

My accent has been a barrier so far. I speak well but I'm torn between trying to speak like them (hoping it would help them understand me better) and speaking with my Lagos boy accent (this is really convenient for me but harder for them to understand what I'm talking about). I'm confident this is going to fix itself with time, I'm not bothered one bit. Understanding them is no biggie for me. I grab all they say 100% and I've not told anyone to "come again" for over 5 days. I'm even helping you people out here, telling them nice things about Nigeria and Nigerians. Saying we listen more than we speak, don't talk while eating, raise kids to be respectful, help the elderly, etc.

On girls... *sigh* This is my favourite part. If there's any guy here who doesn't know how to talk to/woo/toast girls. LOL... don't worry, you're going to be blown away here. In Lagos, I couldn't start a conversation with a girl to save my life. Twitter, FB, BBM, Whatsapp... I was a guru. I knew the right things to write in a chat to get a girl to like me beyond words but when it comes to talking to a stranger face to face and trying to get her to at least part away with her atm card pin phone number, omo... it's been a disaster so far. It only worked for me like 5 times out of 50 attempts. I used to think my game was weak, now I know it's the nonsense girls in Lagos. Stupid girls who think being rude shows class. I'll talk more about girls later.

I get mad whenever someone tries to post a transcript, hides some information for reasons best known to them and people launch attacks on the poster because of it. Listen, it's better to ignore this post if you have nothing to say about it cos I'm angry and I'll give you a very aggressive clapback if you try to say nonsense to me. Have you ever heard of privacy? Where were you when one NLer was digging someone's information up after a little misunderstanding, posting personal email addy, pictures, full names and saying loads of crap about the person, threatening to get him into trouble? To those posting their school names, house address, phone numbers, etc. good for you, some people aren't that free when it comes to sensitive information, you should respect their decision. There's always an immature kid somewhere who's going to fccukk you up with these info someday if you ever have a clash. You Nigerians need to chill, calm down, life is not so serious!!!

No matter how bad a poster is, there are kind ways of replying!!! You don't make them feel bad. I'll give an example. The last poster wrote "Name of School: Bla Bla", a mature answer would have been: "what's the name of the school?" or "I think the school you chose could have been a factor, do you mind telling me the name?". Kindness is not going to kill you! what if he applied to a low rank school and didn't want you people to laugh at him because of the nonsense attitude I'm complaining about? you complain that Nigerians aren't as helpful as the Indians, check yourself first! People are different I always tell you, everyone isn't on your level (whatever level you're on). If you can't help someone without robbing them of their confidence with your itk aggression and insults, simply ignore their post and move on. I have asked these whites the most stupid questions ever, they didn't insult me, they helped! The other day, someone was asking for tips cos of a 1.73 cgpa, some were laughing while some people tried to help. Do you know how hard some people try to succeed but end up not succeeding? No matter what someone's situation is, encourage them or just ignore if you can't! Ignoring a post is free, learn how to do it.

I'm not encouraging or discouraging "incomplete transcripts" as you call it, I'm only saying you should relax, be respectful and more understanding. Some people don't know half of what you know, don't make them feel bad about it. Simple

If you can't help, ignore the post.

yoo! When I came here it was too cold, couldn't handle it. I was down with cold and flu then I had to see dr and get medications. Thank God I had the momentum health, the consultation was covered but I had to pay half of the medication. But now it's getting warm or maybe it's me adapting.
