The Iraqi government has announced that the country is completely free of Islamic State terrorists, following a three-year war.

The Iraqi forces recaptured the last areas still under IS control along the border with Syria, state television quoted Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi as telling an Arab media conference in Baghdad.

“Commander-in-Chief @HaiderAlAbadi announces that Iraq’s armed forces have secured the western desert & the entire Iraq Syria border, says this marks the end of the war against Daesh terrorists who have been completely defeated and evicted from Iraq,” the federal government’s official account tweeted.

In a separate tweet later, Abadi said: “Our heroic armed forces have now secured the entire length of the Iraq-Syria border. We defeated Daesh through our unity and sacrifice for the nation. Long live Iraq and its people.”

11 hotels and event centres have been closed by the Lagos Inland Revenue Service for unpaid taxes of up to  N354.75 million, Sun News reports.

Mr Seyi Alade, Director, Legal Services of the LIRS, said this after a state-wide tax law enforcement exercise in Lagos, backed by the Hotel Occupancy and Restaurant Consumption Laws of Lagos State 2009.

Alade said the state government had started full enforcement of all aspects of tax laws on defaulting taxpayers.

He listed Regia Luxuria hotel, Golden Hope hotel, Westown hotel, Liberty Hall, Seven Eagles Spur and El Shaddai Margvee hotel among others as some of the affected companies.

E-commerce giants Konga have laid off 300 staff in their biggest lay-off so far.

According to reports, Konga terminated the employment of 300 people, amounting to almost 60% of its workforce.

The company has struggled to turn profits since its inception, and following the mass sack, CEO Shola Adekoya announced the company's decision to remove payment on delivery.

Adekoya said: “In recent years, we have explored several solutions for payment and ecommerce in Nigeria and concluded that prepay is the necessary approach for our business and the market. Given the cost of inflation and increasing challenges managing payment-on-delivery, as well as the resulting level of order cancellations on the platform, we had to take this decision.

Russell Simmons is stepping down from all his companies following a third sexual assault allegation against him in the past month.

The most recent sexual assault allegation against Russell Simmons comes from Hollywood writer Jenny Lumet, who accused him of an incident that happened in 1991.

Lumet, who detailed the incident in an article for The Hollywood Reporter, claimed that Simmons offered her a chauffeured ride home in 1991. When she got in the car, however, Simmons told his driver to lock the doors, took Lumet to his apartment and sexually assaulted her.

"At no time that night did I say: 'Russell, I will go home with you,'" Lumet writes. "Or, 'Come home with me.' Or 'I will have sex with you.' Or 'I have the desire to have sex with you.'"

The value of Bitcoin dropped to $9,000 today, 24 hours after it reached an all-time high of $11,395.

The popular cryptocurrency however rose back to $9,400 shortly after on Thursday on the Luxembourg-based Bitstamp exchange.

The incredulous price surge in recent times has been blamed for the drop. Its closest rival, Ethereum, also lost as much as 19%.

“Naturally a few of the early bitcoin traders are taking some profits off the table,” said Charles Hayter, founder of CryptoCompare.com.

Christian Chukwu has stated the belief that the Super Eagles will do Nigeria proud at the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Christian Chukwu coached the national team between 2002 and 2005. He believes there is enough quality in the Super Eagles team.

Cameroonian singer Dencia has called Pastor E. A. Adeboye a "monster" after a video of him surfaced asking for N1 billion.

In the video, Adeboye, while speaking at a sermon, asked anyone who could give the church N1 billion to come and see him.

He said, "Who, by the grace of God, can give N1 billion, such people should the secretary in my office tonight for a very special announcement."

He added, "And then there'd be some of you who say, "Daddy I wish I can give a billion but all I can afford is N100 million." Such people should also see my secretary after the programmer tonight."

Rapper Ma$e has released a very scathing diss song to one time friend and now enemy, Cam'ron. Listen to The Oracle below.

Their beef goes back almost 20 years, and Ma$e had enough when Cam'ron threatened to kill him on a new song earlier this month.

"Told him straight up I ain’t feeling him/ Let me curve this nigga ‘fore I end up killing him," Cam'ron had rapped on It's Killa. 

He told Genius about the song: "It took me about an hour. I went in the studio on Thanksgiving. I went to the parade with my family and I was like, “Nah I can’t.” I don’t know if it was Hello Kitty or Charlie Brown or one of them, I just said “Nah, he can’t do that.”

Producer Diplo has shared a pretty hilarious story of when Kanye West called him to produce for the Watch The Throne album.

The story was a new episode of TBS Digital presents Storyville, and Diplo narrated the incident perfectly.

Diplo, who's the head member of Major Lazer, revealed that he met up with Kanye at the Mercer Hotel, and had been asked to work on Lift Off with Nigeria's very own Don Jazzy. 

He adds that while he unsuccessfully tried to work, Don Jazzy seemed to be only concerned with tweeting.  He also thought Don Jazzy hated him!

Cyntoia Brown's case has once again entered the public eye after a number of celebrities, including Rihanna and Kim Kardashian, pleaded for her release.

Brown was convicted in 2006 for murdering a man who hired her for sex, 43-year old Johnny Allen, and was given a life sentence by the jury.

Brown said when she was 16 she was a runaway and met a 24-year-old man known as "Cut-throat." She started living with him and they moved around to different hotels, the Associated Press reported.

He was abusive—both physically and emotionally—and forced her to prostitute herself for money. He also regularly choked, beat and raped her.

The Nigerian Police surprised many people when commissioner Imohimi Egdal revealed that Burna Boy was suspected as the mastermind of the Mr. 2Kay robbery.

Edgal announced in a statement that the suspects in custody had named Burna Boy and his manager Joel Kantioch as the people who hired and paid them.

In an interview with Vanguard, Mr. 2kay's manager Silas, claimed the issue stemmed from when 2Kay had cautioned Burna Boy over a tweet.

He said: “The arrested suspects confessed that Burna Boy contracted them through a third party to teach Mr. 2Kay a lesson because he granted HipTV an interview, where he corrected Burna Boy for saying negative things about Nigerian pastors.

Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov has won the 2017 ATP Finals after defeating Belgium's David Goffin in the biggest match of his career.

Sixth seed Dimitrov became the first man since Spain's Alex Corretja in 1998 to win the title in his debut appearance.

He beat Goffin 7-5 4-6 6-3 at London's O2 Arena. The final lasted 2 hours, 31 minutes, the longest best-of-three sets final in the tournament's history.

The victory pushes him to number 3 in the world, with Goffin also rising to 7th.

It's been a very long time coming, but Disney and Pixar have finally released a first teaser trailer for hugely anticipated sequel, Incredibles 2. 

The original The Incredibles was released way back in 2004, and continues the story of the superhero family following their battle with villain Syndrome.

Disney had originally scheduled the movie for 2019, but the movie has now been pulled forward to June 15th, 2018.

The Nigerian Football Federation is said to be considering European giants France and Germany as pre-World Cup friendly opponents.

The Super Eagles kicked off their World Cup preparations with a 4-2 victory of South American giants Argentina in Russia, where the 2018 World Cup will be held.

“France and Germany are the two countries Nigeria are considering to play as part of the build-up for next year’s World Cup,” an NFF official was quoted as saying by SCORE Nigeria.

Superstar rapper Olamide released his latest studio album, Lagos Nawa, across various media platforms today.

The album is his 7th, and continues his tradition of releasing an album every year, something he's done since he entered the industry in 2011.

It's quite an amazing feat for an artiste in an ecosystem where albums are thought to be pointless, and only hit singles are necessary.  Tekno still doesn't have a body of work to his name, and Mavin Records boss Don Jazzy has previously stated about how some artistes release albums and decline.

There are 221 police officers attached to Anambra state governor Willie Obiano, the Nigerian Police Force has announced.

The statement comes after Obiano claimed that his security aides had been withdrawn during a meeting with the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“I want my security details returned immediately because I am going to start a fight from there,” Obiano stated.

“I am the governor of Anambra state and all the paraphernalia of my office must be there. This is unacceptable and a sign of what will happen. Those behind this would be disappointed because we are very ready for the election,” he added.

Charlie Sheen is the latest Hollywood act to be hit with sexual assault allegations, after claims of rape surfaced on Wednesday. 

He has been accused of sodomizing late actor Corey Haim, when he was 19 and Haim was just a 13-year old boy. 

Haim, who died in 2010, reportedly confided about the incident to former actor Dominick Brascia.

"Haim told me he had sex with Sheen when they filmed Lucas," Brascia told the National Enquirer.

WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has called WBA and IBF champion Anthony Joshua a "little girl" as he pushes for a fight with the Nigerian boxer.

Joshua knocked out Carlos Takam at Cardiff to retain his two crowns, and Wilder has said he has no problems going to the United Kingdom to fight.

"Packing out stadiums looks good but the money and Mecca of boxing is in America," Wilder told BBC Sport.

"But if you want to stay at home like a little girl, this king has no problem travelling to knock out the champion."

UAE is set to open its billion-dollar museum Louvre Abu Dhabi to the world, over 10 years since it was first announced.

The Middle East country is said to have paid France between $800 million and $1 billion. The deal includes the loan of the French Louvre Museum’s name for 30 years and six months, its temporary exhibitions for 15 years, and loans of artwork for a decade.

It opens officially on the 11th of November, and will have more than 600 pieces on display, including items from its permanent collection and others on loan from French and regional institutions.

Masterpieces like Leonardo Da Vinci’s La Belle Ferronniere and Vincent Van Gogh’s self-portrait are among the pieces expected to be on display.

With barely a week to its release, a new feature of Football Manager 2018 has caused controversy on social media.

For the first time ever, the hugely popular video game franchise will feature gay footballers.

The game's director, Miles Jacobson revealed that football players will sometimes come out as gay in the game, giving your team a small revenue boost through ticket sales and merchandising.

"Part of the reason we decided to do this is because there are gay footballers," Jacobson told BBC in an interview.
