The quiet community of Gidan-Waya in Southern Kaduna has been thrown into deep mourning following a tragic attack by suspected bandits that left multiple lives lost and families shattered.

According to reports gathered by Bestxplorer, the incident occurred on the evening of April 22, 2026, between approximately 8:00 pm and 8:20 pm. The attackers reportedly stormed the community and headed directly to a local security outpost commonly known as “Hunters,” a mini base operated by local vigilantes who play a crucial role in safeguarding the area.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the assailants opened fire on the hunters stationed at the outpost, killing about five of them in the process while one was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition with no no certainty if he will survive it. The sudden and targeted nature of the attack has left residents in shock, raising fresh concerns about security in the region.

The slain hunters were said to be part of a community based security structure that has long supported efforts to maintain peace and deter criminal activities in the area.

Their deaths not only represent a painful loss to their families but also a significant blow to local security efforts.

As of the time of filing this report, the motive behind the attack remains unclear. Bestxplorer has yet to confirm the reasons for this gruesome act, as details surrounding the incident are still sketchy. Nollywood filmmaker and actor Stanley Amandi was arrested alongside military officers accused of planning a violent overthrow of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, BestXplorer can report.

Mr Amandi, a director and former chairperson of the Enugu State Chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, was arrested in September 2025.

This is the first time the actor’s alleged role in the alleged coup plot is being made public.

Newsmen gathered that the actor was hired to play the role of a propagandist by the alleged coupists who planned to assassinate top government officials last year.

Military Confirms Investigation

On Monday, the Defence Headquarters confirmed the plan to illegally oust the Tinubu administration, saying the indicted officers will be arraigned before military judicial panels.

In its statement, the Defence Headquarters said the investigation has been completed and forwarded to “appropriate superior authority in line with extant regulations.”

According to the military, the investigation was “comprehensive” and conducted in line with established procedures, examining “all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel.”

The military disclosed that the findings identified “a number of the officers with allegations of plotting to overthrow the government,” describing such conduct as “inconsistent with the ethics, values and professional standards required of members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”

Initial Arrests and Cover-Up Attempts

Last October, Bestxplorer reports that 16 officers were being investigated for allegedly planning a coup, although the army claimed they were being investigated for “indiscipline and breach of service regulations.”

This newspaper further gathered that more officers and civilians were later arrested in connection with the matter.

Sources familiar with the ongoing investigation said the suspects, including senior military officers, are expected to be tried in both civil courts and military court martials as investigators close in on the alleged plotters.

Military officers among the suspects will first face court martials before possible civil proceedings, while civilians implicated in the alleged plot, including Mr Amandi, will be tried in civil courts.

Bauchi soldiers accuse commanding officer of forcing checkpoint troops to remit ₦500,000 weekly returns allegedly

Soldiers serving with the 133 Special Forces Battalion in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State, have accused their Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. A.K. Kachalla, of forcing troops deployed to checkpoints to remit weekly financial “returns” of up to ₦500,000 or risk being removed from their posts.

The allegations were made by multiple military sources who spoke to SaharaReporters on condition of anonymity on Wednesday.

According to one source, soldiers are routinely deployed to checkpoints along major routes, including Kano Road, Maiduguri Road, Dambam, and Jama’are, with the expectation that they collect money from passengers and motorists.

“Soldiers will be deployed to a checkpoint to be collecting money from passengers and a commanding officer will be waiting for return of ₦500,000 every week,” the source alleged. “If the soldiers didn’t meet up with the demands, they will change them immediately from the checkpoint and bring new soldiers.”

Another source described the practice as systemic and sustained, claiming it began shortly after Lt. Col. Kachalla assumed command of the battalion.

“Since this CO took over, things have gone from bad to worse,” the source said.

“Apart from the extortion at checkpoints, we don’t have regular electricity supply anymore. We only have light for about four hours out of 24 hours.”

The sources further alleged that water supply within the barracks has collapsed, placing severe hardship on soldiers’ families.

“There is no water in the barracks. Women are suffering seriously just to get water for daily use,” one soldier said.

They contrasted the current situation with conditions under a former commander, Lt. Col. P.O. Mukoro, now a colonel.

“We remember during Lt. Col. P.O. Mukoro, now Col. P.O. Mukoro, we enjoyed 24 hours light and water everywhere,” a source said. “He is one of the best commanding officers the unit has ever had, and we are still missing him till now.”

The soldiers called on the military high command to urgently intervene.

A video shared on X by Renard Jean-Michel on Jan. 8 shows the Libyan phone shop owner unboxing dozens of Nokia phones wrapped in red plastic bags.

A Libyan mobile phone dealer placed an order for Nokia phones in 2010 but only received the shipment recently, despite the sender being just a few kilometers away.

The shipment included a variety of classic analog phones, such as the Nokia 5300 and the iconic Nokia N95, which was first released around 2007.

The order, placed in 2010 for a small phone shop in Tripoli, was delayed by the onset of the Libyan Revolt in early 2011. This was followed by years of civil war, a cease-fire in 2020, and ongoing regional divisions, according to Android Police citing local reports.

Due to the conflict, the shipment was forgotten in a warehouse until it finally reached its destination earlier this month. Ironically, both the sender and recipient were located in the same city, just a few miles apart.

Upon seeing his long-lost order, the shop owner burst out laughing and joked, "Are these phones or historical artifacts?"

The Nigerian Army has announced the commencement of applications for the Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) Course 29/2026, inviting qualified Nigerians to apply for commissioning as officers.

In a statement posted on its official X handle on Tuesday, the Army said the DSSC is open to both civilians and serving military personnel with relevant professional qualifications.

Successful candidates will be commissioned into specialised corps of the Nigerian Army to support national defence and security operations.

However, a survey of youth opinions conducted by DAILY POST reveals deep divisions among young Nigerians over the offer, with many citing longstanding concerns about corruption, inadequate equipment, and poor welfare for serving, retired, and fallen personnel, issues that have, in some cases, led to protests by affected families.

Despite these concerns, some youths insist they are ready to serve regardless of the risks. Abubakar Haruna, 28, told DAILY POST that while the complaints raised by others deserve attention, they should not discourage patriotic service at a critical time for the country.

“If everyone says they won’t join the Army, who will protect the nation?” he asked. “We must be ready to defend our lives, our parents, and our country. We are prepared to do that.”

This view contrasts sharply with that of Faisal Muhammad, 30, a recent university graduate, who said he would only consider joining the military after meaningful reforms are implemented.

“The government must first address soldiers’ welfare and provide adequate equipment. How do you expect me to confront criminals whose weapons are more advanced than mine? We hear soldiers complain that bandits are better armed. In such a situation, I cannot have the confidence to enlist, and I doubt my parents would even allow it.” Faisal said

Similarly, Ibrahim Aminu, who has been unemployed for three years since graduating, said he would not join the military despite his desire to see an end to Nigeria’s security challenges.

“Even with the hardship of unemployment, I don’t see myself joining the Army,” he said.

“The government appears not to value the lives of security personnel, soldiers, police, and others alike. Retired junior officers often suffer neglect. Secondly, society does not always appreciate the sacrifices of soldiers; some even see them as oppressors or collaborators. That kills any motivation.”

These divergent views reflect a broader debate among Nigerian youths, while some argue that comprehensive reforms in soldiers’ welfare and recruitment processes must come first, others maintain that the current security crisis demands immediate sacrifice and service.

Reacting to the debate, a retired senior officer, Major Muhammad Bashir Shu’aibu Galma (Rtd.), MNI, said the differences in opinion are normal and not a cause for concern.

"Joining the Nigerian Army has never been compulsory,” he said.

“Even in our time, many of our peers had no interest in military service.”

According to him, those who join with genuine commitment rarely regret their decision. He also dismissed claims by some former officers on social media who express regrets over their years in service, warning that such narratives should not discourage willing applicants.

“Many senior officers today, soldiers, police officers, and paramilitary personnel, are children of former security personnel,” he noted.

However, Major Galma acknowledged flaws in the recruitment system, particularly political interference, which he said often allows unsuitable candidates into the military.

“I appeal to politicians to allow only qualified and willing individuals to be recruited,” he said.

“Many of those who are forced into the system end up deserting after training or becoming security liabilities, including aiding criminal elements.”

Some security analysts agree that the government still has time to restore confidence in military service among young Nigerians.

Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, reportedly threatened to quit the national team and return to Turkey.

According to Arise News, Osimhen was left fuming following his altercation with Ademola Lookman during the 4-0 win over Mozambique at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Monday.

Having scored a brace thanks to assists from Lookman, the 27-year-old lashed out at his team-mate for failing to pass to him in the 64th minute.

Osimhen then beckoned on the bench asking to be taken off, before he was replaced by Moses Simon.

At full time, Osimhen stormed out of the stadium and dropped his accreditation card, insisting he was “done” with the national team and wanted to fly back to Turkey.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has accused Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, of reneging on an agreement brokered by President Bola Tinubu to resolve the political crisis in the state.

Wike made the allegation on Wednesday during a thank-you visit to the people of Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he said he would soon make public the details of the deal reached before the President.

The agreement followed a closed-door meeting convened by Tinubu at the State House in Abuja in June 2025, involving Wike and Fubara, as part of efforts to end the prolonged power struggle that plunged Rivers into a political crisis, leading to a state of emergency and the suspension of the governor and members of the State House of Assembly.

Although both leaders later pledged to work together for peace, neither disclosed the terms of the agreement

However, Wike claimed on Wednesday that the governor had failed to honour parts of what was agreed.

World-renowned boxer Anthony Joshua was involved in a road accident today in Makun, Ogun State.

Eyewitnesses report that the incident occurred along a busy highway of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway around past 11am on Monday.

The vehicle carrying Joshua, a Lexus Jeep with the number plate, KRD 850 HN, reportedly collided with a stationary truck under circumstances that are still being investigated. A PUNCH staff member, Adeniyi Orojo, who witnessed the accident, told PUNCH Online that Joshua sustained minor injuries, saying that two people died on the spot.

Orojo, who stated that the accident happened just before the Danco Filling Station in Makun, before Sagamu Interchange inward Ibadan axis of the road.

He stated that two people died on the spot.

“It was a two-vehicle convoy: a Lexus SUV and a Pajero SUV. Joshua was seated behind the driver, with another person beside him. There was also a passenger sitting beside the driver, making four occupants in the Lexus that crashed. His security detail was in the vehicle behind them before the crash.

Famous Nigerian musician Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face or 2Baba, has made a public confession.

2Baba, who is widely documented as having children with multiple baby mamas outside his marriage, made the confession in Benin City during the MC EdoPikin Undiluted with StarBoy and Legends show.

Speaking before his performance, the musician, who said he had a confession to set the record straight, revealed that he had stopped impregnating women.

United States President Donald Trump said on Thursday that US forces conducted deadly strikes against Islamic State terrorists in Northwestern Nigeria, and vowed more attacks if the militants keep killing Christians.

The president stated this on his Truth Social platform, adding that the Department of War executed numerous perfect strikes.

He wrote, “Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even centuries!

“I have previously warned these terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was.

“The Department of War executed numerous perfect strikes, as only the United States is capable of doing.

Nollywood actress, Doris Ogala, has updated the public about the ongoing controversy involving her and the founder of the Grace Nation Bible Ministry, Pastor Chris Okafor.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, and the Federal Government have concluded the long-awaited renegotiation of the 2009 FGN–ASUU Agreement, ending years of protracted talks and disputes over the welfare of academics and funding of public universities.

The development was disclosed by ASUU in a statement shared on its official Facebook page on Wednesday.

The agreement is scheduled to take effect from January 1, 2026, and will be reviewed after three years.

ASUU announced that the new agreement was reached on December 23, 2025, following extensive negotiations between both parties.

“After years of delays, negotiations, and struggles, ASUU has officially reached a new agreement with the Federal Government on December 23, 2025, concluding the renegotiation of the 2009 FGN–ASUU Agreement,” ASUU said.

Under the agreement, academic staff in Nigerian public universities will receive a 40 per cent salary increase, while pension benefits have been significantly improved.

Nigeria Police Force has released Nollywood actress Doris Ogala in Lagos after rearresting her in Abuja shortly following her bail, SaharaReporters has learned.

Ogala was brought to Lagos by a police team from the Zone 2 Command.

The incident reportedly escalated when Ogala’s lawyer, Marshal Abubakar, attempted to document the police’s actions.

Sources said officers violently attacked Abubakar, seized his phones, and accompanied Ogala on a flight to Lagos.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has reduced its petrol price for the third time in December 2025.

A DAILY POST correspondent who surveyed filling stations in Abuja observed on Thursday that NNPCL has reduced the petrol price to N835 per liter, down from N915.

No fewer than 38 senior officers, including an Assistant Commandant General, have been dismissed from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps by the Federal Government for various infractions.

The dismissals, approved by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board under the Ministry of Interior, were due to offences including gross misconduct, insubordination, and violation of extant laws.

The Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, Babawale Afolabi, in a statement on Wednesday, said in 2025, a total of “76 senior and junior personnel had various disciplinary measures meted on them to serve as a deterrent to others.”

He added, “As directed by the Civil Defence Correctional Fire and Immigration Service Board, disciplinary action have been meted out on some Senior officers as recommended by the NSCDC Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee: about 38 Senior officers including Assistant Commandant General have been dismissed on account of gross misconduct, insubordination and acts unbecoming of a superior officer according to the Public Service Rules.”

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has faulted the title of a newly released Nollywood film, ‘A Very Dirty Christmas,’ describing it as offensive to the Christian faith and urging relevant regulatory authorities to review the production.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, said Christmas is a sacred season that marks the birth of Jesus Christ and should not be depicted in ways that undermine its spiritual significance.

Okoh said the use of the word “dirty” in reference to Christmas trivialises the celebration, which he noted symbolises purity, peace, love and redemption.

The statement partly read, “The Christian Association of Nigeria is deeply troubled by the title of the movie: ‘A Very Dirty Christmas’, which it considers offensive and disrespectful to the Christian faith.

Yusuf Tuggar, minister of foreign affairs, on Wednesday met Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina Faso junta leader, in Ouagadougou, the country’s capital city.

Tuggar, who led a Nigerian delegation to the country, said in a press conference that the mission was initiated by President Bola Tinubu.

The meeting comes nearly two weeks after 11 Nigerian soldiers, aboard an aircraft that made a forced landing in Burkina Faso have remained in the country.

According to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), the C-130 aircraft was on a ferry mission to Portugal.

Ehimen Ejodame, director of public relations at NAF, said the crew observed a technical concern which necessitated a precautionary landing in Bobo-Dioulasso, a city in Burkina Faso, with the nearest airfield.

President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has vowed to further slash prices of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) or petrol nationwide.

A Monday statement by the company said MRS, which operates over 2,000 filling stations nationwide, has begun selling petrol at ₦739 per litre in Lagos, down from ₦885, bringing immediate relief to commuters and businesses.

“Pump price of PMS would decline further”, the statement quoted the entrepreneur, adding that petrol would sell at no more than ₦740 per litre from Tuesday, starting in Lagos.

“From Tuesday, all MRS stations will sell PMS at prices not exceeding N740 per litre, beginning in Lagos,” Dangote said.

He also announced that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery had reduced its minimum purchase requirement from two million litres to 500,000 litres, a move designed to enable more marketers, including members of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), to participate in product offtake.

“So if you come to the refinery today, you will get PMS at N699 per litre,” he stated.

Dangote maintained that Nigerians would be the ultimate beneficiaries of domestic refining as the refinery was working around the clock to ensure that recent reductions in gantry prices were fully reflected at the retail level.

He further highlighted quality differences between locally refined fuel and imported products, noting that PMS supplied through MRS and other refinery offtakers are straight-run fuels, unlike blended products imported from overseas markets.

Popular TikTok content creator and livestreamer, Hamzat Habeeb, widely known as Peller, has sparked outrage and concern after crashing his car during a live broadcast on Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos.

The incident, which occurred during a livestream on Instagram he titled “RIP Peller” on Sunday, that has since circulated widely on social media, showed the influencer driving alone in his newly acquired Mercedes-Benz while visibly distressed.

In the video, Peller was seen crying and speaking emotionally during a phone conversation believed to be with his girlfriend, Jarvis, amid rumours of a possible breakup.

At several points in the livestream, he appeared agitated and made alarming statements, saying, “I will use this car and have an accident right now,” and later, “I’m scared. I’m scared.”

During the livestream, Peller made several disturbing statements that alarmed viewers. In one moment, he could be heard saying, “If you break up with me, people will be mocking me, they will be mocking me, they will be mocking me, they will be, they will be mocking me, they will not… Thank you, I’m going to kill myself.”

Moments later, the streamer was seen driving into another part of the road before deliberately ramming the vehicle into a stone, causing a crash.
