Programming › Re: How Can I Build A Twitter like @mention System In PHP? by FincoApps(m): 6:22am On Oct 09, 2016 |
op, I prefer Facebook or Nairaland way of mentioning ie Without visually seeing the '@' symbol. This is because naturally, I really dislike it when people write stuff like "@dhtml I need your help". When if you are actually speaking, you won't be like "at dhtml I need your help".
So the way I would implement this is,
When commenting, to mention a user, simply use a predefined symbol like @ or ^, and when the app detects this symbol, just like Facebook, it brings up a list of people you could mention.... Now when the user selects one of them, an additional parameter is added to the post request that would be submitted so the post request looks something like:
var mentions = []; var user = {}; user["userid"] = userid; user["name"] = username; mentions.push(user) ;
Send that as an extra parameter with the original post request, and on the server, loop through the mentions array and send a notification to each of the mentioned users....
This way, you don't need to see the stupid @ symbol and also this way, you can mention users with maybe the nickname you call them in real life eg (Fincoooooooo, how u dey), but I'll still get the notification. |

I figured my scoring algorithm needs to be optimized.... still struggling on it though |

Appland: Who will pay you 200,000 in this recession period.... Op I will rather pay Indians that money than throw away that money in the name of creating a site. Most of Nigerian so called web designer are nothing, all they know is just to install script they got or just to do a few customization using plugins. The last time I ask someone here to make me a school educative tutorial blog, I even gave him a site for reference purposes... The self guru just installed a WordPress, install few plugins and handed over the site to me.... Well I paid him, ever since then I do my thing my self *smh*, what else did you expect when you use the word "blog" ? What is WordPress for ? FYI, except you need something very custom, it's advisable to use a CMS for that kind of thing.... There are a lot of reasons but the main reason to me is The security and The content management Do it from scratch and they'll hack you left right and center. I only create such things from scratch if what I'm being paid is worth it |
Programming › Re: Can An Array In Java Hold Multiple Types? by FincoApps(m): 8:37pm On Oct 05, 2016 |
I don't think an Array can hold different data types.... Seunthomas, I saw your code on the other thread where you created an Array of Objects.
Now it might seem like this Array is holding different types but since the Object class is the Parent of all other classes in Java, automatically all other classes are of type Object.
So technically you are putting the same type into the Array |
Programming › Re: Can An Array In Java Hold Multiple Types? by FincoApps(m): 8:31pm On Oct 05, 2016 |
larisoft: To the best of my knowledge; the assertion that a java array can contain different types is false.
You could do this of course by making your objects extend one parent object, or implement a common interface, but then, they wouldnt be 'different types' anymore.
Also, to the best of my knowledge, arrays in java cannot be extended. Exactly!! |

iykemoney90: Let me be clear on this. I once installed Zenmate VPN changer in my chrome and changed my location to United States and I ve been browsing with it all this while. Yesterday I switched on my laptop and noticed that the zenmate is off, I ignored it and started opening the various websites I wanted but when I wanted to log in to my own website. I found out I couldn't then I proceeded to switch on the zenmate and put my location to US that's when my website now opened. Its a big problem for me because I noticed that other browsers like opera and Firefox also refused to open the site. I uninstalled the chrome, cleaned the cookies and cache file, yet no way. Pls what can I do? I don't want my website to depend on shitty app. Have you checked to see if it's like that on other computers ? Post the website link |

DanielTheGeek: It's not that PHP can't do all what you listed, It's just not the right tool. I thought you must have changed this mentality after my first post here, PHP can be used for almost anything any other language such as Python can do.
From a complete web-server, communication on drones, to running on embedded devices (e.g: raspberry pi) and many other stuff. I think it's high time people changed their mentality of PHP, read PHP Beyond The Web by Rob Aley and I bet you won't come back with the same mentality.
That being said, doing most "non-web" related stuff with PHP can be an overkill compared to using a language built for such task. Haven't you noticed that in Nigeria, when something becomes too popular, people start to discourage it Example PHP WordPress BlackBerry Even WhatsApp at a point Windows OS etc If something get's too much attention, people would start looking for reasons it shouldn't.... @OP, I agree with some of the points but PHP IS NOT JUST FOR SCHOOL KIDS. That's blasphemy |

seunthomas: Unity and Godot engine are written in c/c++ if am right. Its different from using an intermediary language like java or .net.
If you remember the common logic, assembly is faster than c/c++. c/c++ is faster than java,.net and java,.net is faster than php. The case being that php is interpreted.
If you are using godot/unity you have no problem. They are cross platform/cross build. Cross build means that they build on those platforms e.g Android,IOS,Windows,OSX/MacOS,Linux.
I don't make it a habit of insulting people except am provoked. Thanks... sticking to cross platform for now until I have enough Man power for native |
Programming › Re: Native JAVA Android Developers - Let Us Discuss Techie Stuffs by FincoApps(m): 2:53pm On Sep 29, 2016 |
seunthomas: Xamarin is the closest to native apps. It actually converts to assembly on ios and bundled the .net runtime on android. It however can not compete speed wise with truely native apps. The point is once you go cross platform, you must be ready for trade offs which in many cases include speed/performance issues. Thank God I saw this before trying it out... but a question What's your thought on stuff like Unity or Godot Engine ? Do they experience performance anything since they are cross platform too ? Please don't insult me o |

DanielTheGeek: Thanks for pointing that out, but who are we protecting in the first place? The users right? I think what he'll need will be something similar, since the requests will be coming from the software/app, he can add some sort of randomly generated encryption key that only the server can randomly decode due to a randomly generated unique unlock key used to decipher the key. Please take a little time to see how CodeIgniter's encryption library handles this. Still, this greatly limits the spoofing of your app but not completely, a smart person knows his way around. So summary is: You generate a random string with a random unlock key and use it to verify the source of the request, decipher on the server side and fetch the required data and POST back in JSON, store the used keys in a database so spoofers can't re-use a key they sniffed.
I don't mind helping him implement it, maybe we should do it together and make it open-source, just maybe. Exactly!! But for me, I prefer not to really stress on this... I'll rather do what Snapchat did (They block all accounts not created with the official app like after sometime).... |

xprince59: Blackberry today Announcing its Q2 Fiscal 2017 financials today (which is actually poor) revealed that it has ended its in-house hardware development, and will outsource to third party partners instead. To be clear here, BlackBerry hasn’t announced the end of the BlackBerry brand in the mobile phone market — it is merely ceasing to make the devices in-house. Similar to what Google does with the Nexus devices. John Chen, Blackberry’s CEO Said "The company plans to end all internal hardware development and will outsource that function to partners. This allows us to reduce capital requirements and enhance return on invested capital" Now the intend to focus more on Software development.

Programming › Re: Lessons In How Not To Implement Application Security by FincoApps(m): 8:07am On Sep 29, 2016 |
DanielTheGeek: That is what the Oauth authorization framework is meant for, you validate apps by sending them to the Oauth server to validate the app_token and app_scope and make sure the user gave permission to that app/person trying to connect.
By password, I guess you mean the api_secret, you should pass them through Oauth first for initial validation. Get Oauth 2.0 https://oauth.net/2/ . Another thing is, your API doesn't look properly designed (if that's the way it is in production) instead of /rest/login.php... Something like /api/v1.0/users/all... makes more sense, but if your API is private you can hard-code the credentials na, this one is public "ashewo" API... let me know if you need me to explain further. Hmm boss I slightly disagree about the purpose of OAuth. From what I understand, OAuth is an authentication protocol to protect the end users from inputting their details directly on any 3rd party App they are not sure of, then also the other things you said. OAuth protects users by opening a web browser where the user then logs in directly on the website instead of the App itself and then the other permission process you mentioned and all takes place, this way, a developer like me that would love to store people's Facebook login details for example in my own server would not still be able to get their Password... So OAuth is not really to guard against spoofing of an app but rather to protect the user.... For example, BlackBerry had some kinda agreement with Facebook before and that's why you can login to the BB Facebook App without going through the OAuth authentication... ie you login directly on the App.... And that's also why Facebook's official App on Android does not use OAuth |
