Nukes apart, Russia can walk all over Turkey militarily, and very easily.
That beggars the question: WHY did Turkey do this, bearing in mind that Turkey violates Syrian airspace almost daily?
Only one answer is reasonable: Turkey wanted to cause a war between Russia and NATO.
A war between Russia and NATO is a NUCLEAR war.

So, WHY did Turkey do this?

I now understand why Germany pulled its Patriot Missile batteries from Turkey.
German is a FIRST WORLD country and won't play stu.pid games with NATO assets.
Turkey is a THIRD WORLD country with a dictator president, who thinks he is a god.
Also Turkey is an Islamic state.
Why is an Islamic country which was rejected membership of the EU still in NATO?
Turkey should be kicked out of NATO before it is too late.

My 2 cents is that Putin wants other NATO members to kick Turkey out (or at the very least divide NATO); that is why he has not responded militarily...yet.

there is techn ically a no-fly zone against Turkish jets in syria...Turkey has been pressuring US and NATO to impose a no fly zone on the syria part of the TURKEY-SYRIA border to provide aircover for their ethnic turkmen rebels who has allegiance to ISIS ..russia was bombing those rebels when turkey shot down the jet..if by chance any turkish jet,crosses into syria,even if its just tne tail of the jet,,the jet wld be brought down.....by the way,since turkey was hell bent on protecting their ethnic rebel folks,why havent turkey responded again...,currently that area where the jet was shot is under heavy russian bombardment...all trucks carrying arms,comming in from turkey tru the syria border have been destroyed...the S 400,wont be used against US planes coz both countries have agreed to co-ordinate their strikes..

A spokesperson of the Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) told Sputnik on Friday that the absence of anti-IS coalition airstrikes“has nothing to do with the S400 deployment”in Syria.

“The fluctuation or absence of strikes in Syria reflects the ebb and flow of battle,”the spokesperson said, adding that CJTF-OIR deliver airstrikes when and where it needs to, dedicating a lot of time to researching targets to ensure maximum effect and minimizing civilian casualties.
As CJTF-OIR reported on Friday, the US-led coalition had made no sorties against targets in Syria bsince Thursday, while airstrikes against Islamic State in Iraq continued, with the coalition making 18 strikes on terrorist positions.
On November 24, a Turkish F-16 fighter jet shot down a Russian Su-24 bomber, which had been bombing IS positions. Moscow says the bomber was in Syrian airspace which the F-16 violated, while Turkey claims the Russian jet crossed the Turkish border and was repeatedly warned before the attack.
Both the pilot and the navigator of the Su-24 ejected. The pilot was killed by a militant group while parachuting to the ground, while the rescue operation for the Russian navigator was successful to a certain extent: a Marine died providing covering fire in the rescue team drop zone and a helicopter was lost after it was hit with an American-made anti-tank TOW missile the terrorists are armed with.

After the incident, Russia’s Joint Staff took the decision to enhance air defenses at the Khmeimim airbase south of the Syrian port of Latakia.
The following day, on November 25, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu announced the immediate deployment of S-400 misslies to Syria.
S-400 Triumph system missile launchers were airlifted to Syria by Antonov An-124 Ruslan super-jumbo aircraft 24 hours after the decision was announced on Wednesday.
According to open sources, the S-400 is capable of shooting down any existing aircraft, helicopter or missile traveling at speeds of up to 4.8 kilometer per second (over 17,000 km/h) The only target the system would have problems with is a nuclear warhead of intercontinental ballistic missile, which flies at speeds of up to 6-7 kilometer per second.
The S-400 engages targets at distances as far as 400 kilometers and heights of up to 27 kilometers (or higher with newer missiles). This is enough to cover at least 75 percent of Syrian territory, along with the airspaces of Lebanon, Cyprus, half of Israel and a vast part of Turkey.
S-400 radar is also capable of discriminating moving objects on the ground, such as cars or military vehicles at a distance of 600 kilometers.

The front itself spanned 1,600 km. fighting on the Western Front involved 15-20 divisions at most..the GERMANS had no challenge at the western front,they decimated france,incapacitated britain,occupied capitals of european countries...if not for the will of the RUSSIAN PEOPLE,the official language of the world today with which u used in typing this CRAP wld be GERMAN..

Now I understand what Churchill meant by that Russians are "a mystery wrapped in an enigma".
From the much I know, Russia can make life hell for Turkey by simply deploying few thousands of ground troops at the Syrian/Turkish border to seal that border; deploy tactical nuclear missilles like Iskanders or Brahmos II supersonic cruise missiles near that border always ready to nuke the hell out of Turkey at the next slightest provocation. Just these actions while quieten Turkey for the nearest future, because frankly NATO does not want an escalation to a war with Russia. Nobody wants to die.
But then, I know nothing about the Russian mind.

PUTIN has deployed an advanced anti-aircraft missile defense system to Syria with a range capable of taking down jets as far away as Tel Aviv.

The Russian military released photographs of the S-400 Air Defense System, known to NATO as SA-21 'Growler', at the Latakia Airbase on the Syrian coast.

The advanced missile system, which is understood to have a maximum range of 250 miles is capable of bringing down an aircraft at a maximum altitude of 90,000 feet - which is more than twice the height of a cruising passenger airliner.The Russian Ministry of Defence invited a group of 50 foreign journalists to the airbase where the air-defence radar system could be clearly seen.

From the heavily-defended airbase, the missile system can cover an area covering most of Syria, southern Turkey, Cyprus, the eastern Mediterranean as well as much of Israel.

The missile system comes in three sections, with a central control point, a radar complex capable of tracking 300 targets and controlling six anti-aircraft missile launchers.

It is understood that the weapon system is capable of monitoring and targeting British aircraft using RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus.

Russia has been steadily building up its forces in Syria, with increasing numbers of fighter-bombers and helicopter gun ships being deployed at its airbase.

Russian analyst Yury Barmin said on Twitter: 'Alleged S400 complex radar was spotted at the Russian air base in Latakia. Another "accidental" leak by Russia's MoD.

'By deploying S400 to Latakia, Russia sends signal to Turkey and Israel but also creates a shield over Syria's coastal areas.'

The S-400 is also able to intercept cruise missiles and other potential airborne threats.

It is also believed to be a major threat to military aircraft such as the RAF Tornado and the US Air Force F-15 and F-16.

Russian defence officials claim it can even target the fifth-generation F-22 Raptor aircraft.

Russia is also selling the older-generation S-300 system to Iran and is considering exports of the newer weapon to India, China and Saudi Arabia.

According to a Russian missile commander speaking to Sputnik News: 'Even if a plane is flying low and with the same speed as a vehicle moving on the ground, the radar will show it on the screen. For the S-400 there is no such thing as “stealth” aircraft, the system will see it and will shoot it down.'

Russian defence officials have claimed that over the past two days its aircraft have performed 85 combat sorties attacking 277 terrorist locations in Aleppo, Damascus, Lattakia, Hama, Homs and Idib provinces.

They said an Su-24M bomber attacked an ISIS armoured convoy in Homs destroying three tanks and two infantry fighting vehicle.

As pictures of the advanced missile system emerged, Russia claimed that ISIS and other terror groups in the Middle East have access to mustard gas.

Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told Tass: 'Islamic State and some other radical Islamist groups in the Middle East have indeed gained access to the components and technologies for the production of chemical weapons and began using them more actively in Syria and Iraq

'If earlier we talked about the use of household and industrial chlorine by them as chemical weapons, now there is verified information about the use of warfare poisonous agents, including mustard gas. This gas is also used for the purposes of provocation to blame the government for that.'

The deployment of the S-400 is seen as a massive escalation of Russia's air-defence capability in the region.

Zakharova accused the United States of trying to encourage regime change in Syria and other areas.

She said: 'Russia’s steps in the sphere of boosting defence are largely caused by the US activity, including the American nuclear potential improvement, deployment of the global missile defence system with a view to upsetting the strategic parity and bringing NATO infrastructure closer to Russian borders.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Russian Su-24 was shot down by a Turkish F-16 fighter jet near the Turkish-Syrian border. One pilot died in the incident. The second one was rescued and brought to the Russian airbase in Latakia.Moscow maintains the jet did not violate Turkey's airspace. It ditched on Syria's territory four kilometers from the border.

Shortly afterwards, the MoD announced three steps to be taken following the attack on the Russian Su-24 bomber, including providing aerial cover by fighter jets for every airstrike, boosting air defense by deploying guided missile cruisers off the Latakia coast, and suspending all military-to-military contacts with Turkey.

The S-400 is Russia's most advanced anti-aircraft defense system. It is as an upgrade of the S-300 Growler family, designed and developed by Almaz Antei. The S-400 is employed to ensure air defense using long- and medium-range missiles that can hit aerial targets at ranges up to 400 kilometers. The S-400 is capable of hitting tactical and strategic aircraft as well as ballistic and cruise missiles. The system includes a set of radars, missile launchers and command posts, and is operated solely by the Russian military.

Khmeimim airbase in Latakia, Syria, accommodates Russian Air Force squadrons of Su-27SM and Su-30 fighter jets, Su-34 and Su-24 tactical bombers, which are all taking part in airstrikes on Islamic State positions. The airbase is protected by state-of-the-art air defense systems and radars. Khmeimim also has a fully operational unit for maintaining fixed- and rotor-wing aircraft and providing logistical assistance to pilots.

You are right, it's definitely going to be a proxy war. I sense Russia might want to instigate the PKK (Kurds) against the Turks. The same scenario going on in Ukraine. Once the civil war starts expect the vultures to start feasting on Turkey. And expect an appearance in the movie by the Jews. Remember when they torpedoed the Turkish Flotilla which increased tensions between those countries. Turkey is the face of Jihad in Europe and by messing with the Russians, they are making themselves available for Russia's covert war which can make them exposed to other enemies cos I see even the Cypriots having some ideas in their heads already.

My stay in Nigeria has been wonderful. I was opportune to know about Nigeria and my dad's hometown in Edo state. I was introduced to this site by mulattoclaro. Nairaland is one funny place. I met lots of nice people such as tonyebarcanista, fineguy11, goodboiyy, coolitempa, truckpusher, enahi, edcure, searching4love, martineverest, sandraokosun1, ikwerreboy, kinkyangela, princedebola201, etc and I also met some black monkeys such as abagworo, ezeagu, eurobomber, lygn19, igboprince, biafranqueen, igboson, ugomba, udmaster, Etc. I call them black monkeys cos they're not only primitive but have the tendency to want to annex SS land and oil.

Please SS continue the fight and ensure they don't cajole u into stealing our lands. That's what they've been planning to do. I'm going to Canada for a little vacation but will be back soon.
