Two DOD personnel injured

The US military's Africa Command has confirmed that one serviceman and two contractors were killed on Sunday when the jihadist militant group Al-Shabaab attacked a military base in Kenya.
The injured are in a stable condition and are being evacuated at the moment, the statement said.

Camp Simba, which hosts US and local troops, came under attack on Sunday morning. The naval base is located in Manda Bay in Lamu County on Kenya’s coast, bordering Somalia.“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of our teammates who lost their lives today,” US Army General Stephen Townsend said in the statement.

The general promised to “pursue those responsible” for the attack and prevent Al-Shabaab jihadists from creating a “safe haven” in Africa.

The attack on the military base included “indirect and small arms fire.” Though the jihadists made it through the perimeter, they were repelled by forces within the base. Six contractor aircraft vehicles were damaged “to some degree” in the attack.

Established in 2004, Camp Simba is used by the US to train Kenyan naval units, and is believed to play an important role in American operations in Somalia and Yemen, including drone strikes.

Kenyan troops participate in the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), which is aimed at supporting the Somalian government in its fight against Al-Shabaab.

I read comments on a possible face off between US and Iran. I noticed many contributions portray the mindset of blackman about war - destruction and more destruction.

I am yet to read a concise input from a strategic background. Everyone is talking about "wipeout", "annihilate", "destroy"....

Wars are not necessarily about destruction.

America and its allies are built for conventional and symmetrical wars, they design their battlefront hardwares and all its features for this purpose. The equipments and resources put into the war have a lifespan. When that lifespan expires the advantages of war start to recede. America fights in different conflicts around the globe and their opponents in these conflicts have varying degrees of military and political resources at different stages of attainment.

In America military power is an industry, a capitalist investment. In a country like Iran nationalism is a spiritual devotion.

America will go into war with intent to maximize intense firepower and decapitate the leadership in very short timeframe and try to fill the political vacuum with substitutes answerable to Washington.

This is a borrowing from the old and tested principle of indirect rule practiced by Britain on foreign soil.

Another factor that will play in this conflict is America's lessons in Iraq and how it will play on such issues as rebuilding.

First, Iran is Shiite. This means America must rebuild the political structure with Shiites. Middle East Muslims are Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds.

1. Syria is Sunni and pro- Iran.
2. Kurds are pro-Iran.
3. In Iraq America chased out Baathists and gave control to Shiite.
4. In Afghanistan America chased out Taliban and gave country to Shiite.
5. Lebanon has Hezbollah, pro Iran.
6. There are are all kinds of militia groups under command of Iran.

Is American hardware and military apparatus capable and willing to endure for a 30yr war in MidEast?

In assymetrical warfare enemies are known to metamorphorse using different tactics to prolong a war far much farther than it should normally take. We saw it happen to Eussia in Afghanistan. It has happened to America in Vietnam, in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Nasrallah said that suicide bombers that had forced America to leave the region in the past are still there and greater in number than before, reported Reuters. He added that Hezbollah and its allies should not target US civilians, however.
