Mogidi: Yes September at the earliest. Bubu didn't bother telling us before travelling. Bubu needed to tell his leash holders in America first, hoping they approve his ministerial list. Devil is a liar! So, no SGF till September ? No mini-cabinet sef? Does it mean all Nigerians about 170 Million people are corrupt for Buhari to choose from ? O God of creation, direct our noble cause, guide our leaders right, help our youth here on Nairaland and across the country the truth to know. |

The summary bellow:“The recent decline of the Nigerian stock market is due to several factors. First is the increase of political risks due to infighting within the ruling party at Federal level”. “What is affecting the market is the governance of the economy. The foreign investors are complaining of no policy direction of the government as none of them would want to invest in such an economy”. According to Afrinvest, “The financial market (equities and fixed income)”, according to them , “ (Nigeria) is in dare need of a clear cut policy direction and stability. A lot of foreign investors appear to have taken to their heels leaving only the bandwagon local investors, who also have no clue of the impact of future monetary policy on their investment position in the scene.”
In short term, this government is clueless and it lacks clear leadership direction for the country. Painful!

philips70: You have a genuine reason for your fears and I share in some of the sentiments too. A lot of stuffs were bungled up by the last administration that you wouldn't blame much if one argued there was nothing like subsidy because there was almost zero transparency in its executions. Even when some where found to be shortchanging the system, the government of the day did not demonstrate a will to bring them to book but instead they looked to be shielding them from real scrutiny.
I still suggest this administration is given time to sort out the real issues with subsidy and other aspect of the economy that is yet to kickstart. When they are finally out with their policy direction then we can begin to ask these hard questions. It would have really been very poor judgement for Buhari to just come in and the first thing he will do is stop subsidy without taking time to look into the merits or demerits just like he did with the service chiefs.
So cool down, suffily suffily catchee monkey according to the honorable Obahiagbon. Oga philips70, suffily stuffily abi? how about the daily loss of 1 Billion Naira additional payment by Nigerians to fuel marketers despite the government subsidy? If Buhari will not remove fuel subsidy at the moment, at least he can enforce the official subsidized pump price of N87/L? https://www.nairaland.com/2463504/petrol-subsidy-hits-n1.69bn-daily#36064792 |

tonychristopher: nice postulation and submission but do you agree with me that subsidy isn't the best way to head...I will want us to agree that we have to allow market forces determine the end price
this will bring competition or unless you want me to believe that competitions isn't good. I have been buying 100 naira since few months ago and I live in Lagos so why cry subsidy
left for me ..yank it off
the only solution is let the government hands off downstream sector and just regulate the activities
thats how economy is beign ran May be you don’t know, I am one of those clamoring for subsidy removal because it has overstayed its welcomes. If we can stop subsidizing US Dollars, by allowing the market forces to determine the exchange rate which in turn is now increasing our foreign reserve, I see no reason why we should not remove the fraudulent fuel subsidy. What is the gain of the purported subsidy when Nigerians could still not get the product at the subsidized rate of N87/L? |

gagewonda: dats rather shallow from u. If I may ask wat specifically did pmb do to 'gradually fight d corruption ' like u said. We shouldn't be jubilating cos subsidy prices will vary all year long we r nt paying trillions ryt now is because oil prices hasn't gone up yet. So wat u r jubilating for isn't buhari's making rather its d world oil price. Wit dis kind of ur mentality we will continue being gullible in dis country You are absolutely right. |

tete7000: What I found ludicrous about people's argument on the past govt is that people just want to believe those in govt then didnt do anything with intention to improve people's lot. Every information is disputed and regarded as lies. Even when that govt was trying to pass an important information, such information is disregarded with a wave of hand. We were told there was never a subsidy; subsidy was a scam and Prof Tam David West came and even told us how it is possible to sell pms for N40 per litre without subsidy. President Buhari if I remember well even told us he doesn't understand the word 'subsidy'. Fastracked into 2months into the life of the same govt now, they want us to believe they are paying over N1b per day on subsidy payment. Now while I am not objecting to the fact that GEJ govt might have been reckless and exaggerated some of the figures given, I ask from a moral point of view : Can we trust a people who have denied subsidy existed but now want us to believe they are paying so much billions for the same subsidy? Is it that they never new that subsidy existed or they simply exploited it for personal gain? If we say they didn't know, can we really trust their future judgement on issue of fundamental nature to the life of our nation when they who had been in govt at various time in the past could make such miscalculation? If it is said that they knew but hid the figure away from us to win election, does it mean in future they can hide important information too from us, exploit figures to gain political advantage over our welfare? Can they really be said to have our interest at heart or they are just people who seek political power for personal gain?
I honestly hate people who feed me lies. APC have shown their penchant for lies and propaganda and I m always sceptical they can turn the fortune of this country around. Nothing built on falsehood can stand. Time will tell and I pray I am proven wrong. Thank you, I remember vividly they protested against it vehemently in Lagos ‘ACN’ and in some selected states. Instigating the masses against the government. Buhari himself mentioned he does not understand what fuel subsidy means. 'Fuel subsidy is a fraud by the past government... etc... Honestly, I don’t know how far APC will continue to live on lies, I expected them to swallow their pride, tender unreserved apologies to Nigerians for their past lies and propaganda and let us face the reality of government. Until then, their past lies and propaganda will continue to hunt them. God help Nigeria! |
