Capital One City Parks Foundation, an independent non-profit organization in New York, USA, is hosting its annual outdoor music festival tagged "SummerStage" this summer from June until October. They will showcase an Afrobeat event in Bronx, New York on August 13th, 2022 starting at 6pm.

The event is one of New York’s most beloved, broadly accessible, free outdoor performing arts festivals presenting free live performances, spanning all genres.


The lineup of artists to headline the August 13th show includes Ghanaian reggae-dancehall artist Shatta Wale, Afro-pop singer-songwriter Wiyaala, hot-spot Dj Freshyk and a host of African and international music stars.

Over the years, SummerStage has assembled some of the world's leading music icons who exude diverse music styles and cultural offerings ranging from jazz, hip hop, Latin, global, indie and contemporary dance to engage fans from all over the city - and the world - and the 2022 season will continue that legacy.

In an official press release, the Executive Artistic Director of SummerStage, Erika Elliott stated:

Enoch Kofi Bannerman, CEO restless media and Shatta Wale's clique also echored the excitement working with him on the music campaign.

"Shatta Wale's influence in the Ghanaian and largely African music industry is quite remarkable. Having known him for a while, i am confident his display at summerstage will mark another great stride", he said.

Abass Akeju, a media executive and founder of prime music partners also stated that he's excited about the prospect of working with the organisation, citing Ghanaian music industry as one of the fastest growing in Africa and commending the effort to bring a leading star from there on a global stage.

The Beauty of Africa International Pageant(Baip) has unveiled the three African delegates for the World finals of Miss International Pageant competition slated to hold in Japan on 3rd, December 2022.
The selected representative includes; Miss Kenya, Cindy Isendi, Miss Namibia, Erika Kazombaruru and Miss Nigeria, Precious Obisoso, respectively.

How Vice President Osinbajo’s antecedent defeat false claims of religious bigotry and tribalism

This writer is currently reading a leadership book by Lee Kuan Yew, Former Prime Minister of Singapore, titled ‘From Third World to First World’. The book gives an insight into Lee Kuan Yew’s years of service, and how he turned around the fortunes of his country, Singapore, moving from a third world (underdeveloped) country to a first world (developed) country, within a space of just three decades.

Reading through the book, one can see striking similarities between the person of Lee Kuan Yew and Professor Yemi Osinbajo. Some of the qualities both have in common are making merit-based appointments, respect for the law, respect for different tribes and religions, and non-discrimination on grounds of tribe and religion. Lee Kuan Yew achieved so much for his country, laying the foundation for modern-day Singapore; he can never be forgotten in the history of Singapore. Just as Lee Kuan Yew did in Singapore, if elected as President in 2023, it is evident that Professor Yemi Osinbajo will achieve great feats, and will lay a rock-solid foundation for the future of Nigeria.

The vice president, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN),has come a long way in public service, working with people of different religious inclinations. In 1988, at age 31, he was appointed as Special Adviser to the Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Bola Ajibola, SAN, and a Southern Muslim. Professor Osinbajo held the post for 4 years, till 1992. Between 1999 and 2007, he served as Attorney General and Commissioner for Lagos of Lagos State, under the Governorship of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, another Southern Muslim.

Beyond religion, Excellency, the Vice President is known to be an advocate for Meritocracy. He strongly believes that Nigeria has enough competent hands, across all religious and tribal lines that can effectively and efficiently administer the affairs of the country. This has been greatly reflected in the appointments he has made since 2015. The most senior official position in the office of the Vice President is that of the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President. The position is held by AbdulrahmanIpaye, a Southern Yoruba Muslim. A former sub-dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos, Mr. Ipaye was appointed Special Assistant on Legal Affairs to Bola Tinubu in May 2001, and in 2003,he became the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Legal Matters; holding that post till 2007. He later served as Attorney General of Lagosstate between 2011-2015 under Governor BabatundeFashola, before his appointment in 2015 as Deputy Chief of Staff. This is meritocracy speaking, irrespective of tribe or religion.

Furthermore, it should be noted that Special Advisers are next in the hierarchy of seniority in the office of the Vice President. Of the three special advisers, two are Muslims. Mrs. Maryam Uwais occupies the office of Special Adviser on Social Investments. A Northern Muslim, Mrs. Uwais is a lawyer of 42 years and has served in the Kano State Ministry of Justice, Nigerian Law Reform Commission, Central Bank of Nigeria, National Human Rights Commission, Justice Research Institute, as well as the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the child, among others. Some of her awards include the Humanitarian of the Year Award, in 2011, from the International Women’s Society and; National Human Rights Commission Awardee, in 2015, for Outstanding Contributions in the Advancement of the Rights of Women and Children in Nigeria. Before she was appointed Special Adviser, she was a Non- Executive Director, and member of the Board of Directors of Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc. This is meritocracy speaking, irrespective of tribe or religion.

Another sound piece of evidence is the example of Ben Akabueze, a Southern Igbo Christian, who is currently the Director-General of the Budget Office. He was once the Chief Executive Officer of NAL Bank, now Sterling Bank. He served as two-term Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget in Lagos. He thereafter served as Special Adviser on National Planning to President Buhari before he was appointed Director-General of the Budget Office. This is meritocracy speaking, irrespective of tribe or religion.

Other appointees in the office of the Vice President include Ambassador AbdullahiGwary, a Northern Muslim from Yobe State, who serves as Senior Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs; Mrs. BilkisuSaidu, a Northern Muslim from Sokoto State, who serves as Senior Special Assistant on Legal Research and Compliance Matters; Mrs. Susan Changwa, a Northern Christian from Adamawa State, who serves as Special Assistant on Household and Special Events; Mrs. OlabisiOgungbemi, a Southern Muslim, who serves as Special Assistant on Political Matters; and Yusuf Ali, a Southern Muslim who serves as Special Assistant on Power.

The backgrounds of these appointees reflect the all-inclusive nature of the Vice President, who picks the best for the job, irrespective of tribe or religion. In conclusion, Professor Yemi Osinbajo is a man who believes in the emergence of a New Nigeria; one in which the sole qualification needed to attain one’s dreams to serve Nigeria is merit-based, not religion or tribe. When elected in 2023 as President, Nigeria will unfailingly experience a positive turnaround.

Anyone investing in Nigeria should be very careful especially in a location that's posing threat to the society at large.. The only assurance investing in Abuja is that its the capital and no way capital can have major problem except the country is just done already.

However, for places like bornu, maiduguri or these core northern region. Its very risky and one has to be double careful.

Pray God help Nigeria. Its sad how we've arrived at this point. If there was peace believe me there will be lots of developments in major cities in Nigeria.

Born in a neighbourhood in Otun Moba, Ekiti State, Olaiya Gbenga Promise known professionally as Opah Sneh is a Nigerian singer, rapper and songwriter who revealed his early financial struggle with his family.

The Afro-fusion singer paint an image of his poor family background, growing up in a mixed family where they had to depend largely on proceeds from their local farming business.

His pursuit for growth and exploring greener pasture made him relocate to lagos despite the huge odds stalked against him, " I had a fair share of poverty, growing up in a family that depend extensively on what we get from our family business. I lost my dad in 2002 so I was largely raised by my single mother until her death in 2011", the artiste told Sunnews paper.

"After my secondary school in Ekiti, I told my mother's brother I was staying with my intention to travel to lagos and stay with my elder sister. At first, he was scared for me, asked to know how I intend to survive with the rough life in lagos.

"I was so motivated that nothing was ever going to stop me from travelling. That decision has today, carved a new beginning for me and opened me up to full glare of my music career".

The artist who dropped his debut hit track "Dream" in 2021, noted that the song was inspired by his early struggle and also serve as a reminder of his promise to his late mother.

"Dream is a song filled with lots of emotions. As the only son I was loved by my mum and siblings. My determination has always been to make them proud. The memories of my late parents still hurt me during my solo moments. I believe though, they are up there watching and still praying for me. I owe everything I have achieved in life to God", he said.

Opah Sneh's obvious talents tent him as an Afrobeat star to watch out for and we may well see him taking over the industry in the nearest future.
