Crime / Three Men To Die By Hanging For Stealing N50,000 In Kwara by Fishbig: 3:03pm On Dec 22, 2013 |
The Supreme Court upheld the death sentence given to three men for robbing a woman of N50,000 at gun point. The convicts, identified as Kayode Babarinde, Akeem Haruna and Yusuf Nurudeen, had earlier been sentenced to death by hanging by the Kwara State High Court and the Ilorin Division of the Court of Appeal. The three convicts were charged before the Kwara state High Court in Ilorin on a two-count charge of conspiracy to commit armed robbery and armed robbery contrary to section 97 of the Penal Code and Section 1(2) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap. R 11 Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The trio was alleged to have robbed Mrs. Ruth Alabi of the sum of N50,000, threatening her with a locally made pistol at Baba Oloya Street, Jebba, on August 18, 2007. Each of the accused persons pleaded not guilty to each count of the charge. The high court found each of the accused persons guilty as charged on each of the counts. They were sentenced on September 26, 2009, for two years of imprisonment on the count of conspiracy and death by hanging on the count of armed robbery. Dissatisfied with their conviction and sentence, the trio appealed to the Court of Appeal in Ilorin, but their appeal was dismissed. Still dissatisfied, they appealed to the Supreme Court. In a lead judgment delivered by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, their appeal was found to be unmeritorous and was therefore dismissed. "I find no reason to disturb the said finding and conclusions of the lower court. In effect the appeal lacks merit and is hereby dismissed," the Justice said. Health / Sperm Comes Out Of My Wife's Vagina Few Seconds After Expulsion, Is This Normal? by Fishbig: 10:12am On Dec 21, 2013 |
My wife and I got married recently after 5 years of courtship without sex. I deflowered her a day after our wedding. The sex was not interesting as anticipated in the first week, being our first experience. However, there is improvement now. Consequently, I've been able to release sperm but each time I do that, it will flow out of my wife's vagina after 15 seconds of expulsion. Is this normal? Can my wife be pregnant wit this kind of experience? Please your urgent reply will be appreciated |
Politics / Boko Haram: Jonathan Assures Military Of Better Firepower To Deal With Terrorism by Fishbig: 8:18am On Dec 21, 2013 |
Embarrassed by Thursday’s attack on Bama Town in Borno State, President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday vowed to ensure provision of more sophisticated firepower for the military to deal with the security challenges posed by terrorists. The president made the promise while decorating new generals of the Nigerian armed forces. “We are being overwhelmed in some incidents. We will surely get over it. We will work with you to see what we can provide to make sure that you are in position to defend our nation,” the president said as he described continued Boko Haram attacks as a very worrisome challenge that ‘we never expected’. “We will work with you to ensure you are in position to protect lives, you are in position to protect properties of Nigerians, you are in position to make sure that the environment is peaceful and that Nigerians can move freely from one part of the country to the other without being afraid that somebody would point the trigger at them”. Service Chiefs and the Inspector General of Police had since been summoned by the president for an emergency meeting on the Bama attack. Jonathan told the new Generals; “On behalf of your country and men and women, I congratulate all of you. It is not easy to wear two stars. That is almost the terminal position in the armed forces. Any other one is by the grace of God. “And to be so elevated as two star generals; we know that you must have passed through storms, you must have endured several winters, both rainy season, dry season to get there. You wives must have also been well picked to survive this period. But we thank God that today you are being so decorated. “But it is a very, very challenging moment. It is a very challenging period in this country and we expect as the saying goes that those to whom more is given much is expected. For those of you who are decorated as full two star generals, we expect that you bring your experience to bear. “We must work together as a team to make sure that the armed forces are able to protect lives and property of Nigerians. If we don’t do that, then of course the reputation of the country will continue to go down. Speaking further, he said, “A number of issues are being raised in the media which you know much more than I do, which are so much of a challenge on the armed forces and other security agencies of this country. All of us collectively must stand up to our responsibility and go the extra mile; we need to add the extra to see that as a nation we overcome these challenges”. Jonathan also said he was impressed by the new way things are being done in the military now. “I am quite impressed with what is going on in the services. I am seeing creativity and innovation in the three arms. From the army, I have seen a lot of initiative, creativity, innovation, in terms of their own equipment that before this time were all reconfigured or maintained abroad; which you are doing yourself. “The same thing with the Navy, and Airforce. Not too long ago, in Kaduna, we were quite impressed with the unmanned aerial vehicle that we saw. We saw the people who did it, very young people from the Nigerian Air Force. This shows initiative, this shows creativity. “We also saw the wind tunnel. We were told that they were imported into the country in 1984. My assumption was that the Shagari government imported them into the country. But only recently, they were able to couple it for use. “So you have seen that for quite some time, probably, we at the leadership level of this country have not been doing things the way we suppose to do. I believe that the number of things that the Arned Forces supposed to have gotten over these periods, they don’t have. Among the 46 Major Generals and equivalent decorated are Major General Adeniyi Oyebade, Brigade Commander, 19 Brigade Ikeja, Rear Admiral Ahmadu, Commander Central Pay office, Lagos , Air Vice Marshal Victor Udoh, Major General Sanusi Muazu, Major General Leton Wiwa, Arear Admiral Joseph Okojie and Air Vice Marshal Nahogo Nzokala. |

A young man is worried that the curse his ex-girlfriend placed on him might affect his future. Hear him: "I had a girlfriend for over five years and she did more than six abortions for me. Didn't think she could have any children in the future that is why I recently broke up with her. Abeg I didn't want to waste time when I eventually marry because I'm the only boy in my family. I heard she got naked and was swearing for me in her compound. Please does it work. Can the swear catch me?" Readers, what do you think? |

Music/Radio / 11 Simple Steps To Becoming A Famous Singer by Fishbig: 2:15pm On Dec 19, 2013 |
Want to become a famous singer, keep these simple steps in mind and you will be there in no time. 1. Be determined and persistent. There's a lot of competition out there - thousands of people want the fame and fortune of a successful singing career. Most successful singers spend years working on their voices and playing low-paying gigs before they make it big. Don't lose sight of your goal, and resolve to be patient. 2. Conquer your fears. Contrary to what you might think, a lot of performers struggle with severe stage fright. If this is a problem for you, or if you're too hung up on getting the approval of others, find ways to confront your fears and increase your confidence. Sing in front of others often, whether it's in the car with friends or on a stage, and remember that others' opinions of you are not what's important - what matters is that you're working toward your dream. 3. Start with one good song that you sing great. Once you got that work on your next best song. Before you know it, you'll have a whole night covered, a gig of good stuff. 4. Breathe, breathe deep, more air than you will possibly ever need to do the song. Don't run out of breath or power. 5. If you don't write your own songs, pick good covers. A lot of singers don't write their own songs, and that's OK. Particularly when you're first starting out, you want people to pay more attention to the quality of your voice than the quality of your songwriting. Build up a "set list" of 10 to 15 covers you know you can really knock out of the park, and practice getting better at them. Choose a good mix of popular and obscure songs. Just as you don't want to focus on only Top 40 hits, you also don't want to be singing only songs that no one recognizes. 6. Sing in public whenever possible. Book as many gigs as you can to get your voice out there - you never know who will be listening in the audience. Sing at private parties, county fairs, store openings, sporting events, talent shows, karaoke nights, and anywhere else that will have you, paid or not. Even if you don't get spotted by a talent agent right away, you're practicing your stage presence and getting used to being in front of a crowd. 7. Start a YouTube channel. Some people have actually managed to become famous through posting videos of themselves singing on YouTube. (See Charice Pempengco, Austin Mahone, Greyson Chance and, most importantly, Justin Bieber.) Remember: the Internet isn't always a kind place. If you're not sure your voice is great, it might be wise to hold off until you have some more training. You might get accolades online, but you also might encounter people who are out to tear you down. Additionally, it's wise to keep in mind that the things you post online will, in a way, live forever. Only post work you'd be proud to have anyone see, and that you think you'll still be proud of in 10 years. Do not post on YouTube if you're underage. If you're a minor, ask one of your parents to help you post content. 8. Become a publicity hound. Eat, breathe, and sleep attention. Look for photo ops. Speak up. Swipe up any chance to shake up the spotlight. Make yourself known. 9. Network. Be in the places where successful musicians/producers meet (clubs, dance halls) and act like you're part of the industry, even if they don't know who you are. Make connections with other musicians. You never know who might want to collaborate with you in the future, or introduce you to an agent. Take the time to be friendly and interested in the other person's career. 10. Always show your best. When you're on-stage or networking with industry professionals, turn on the charm. Smile big, answer questions, and sing with enthusiasm, even if you're feeling terrible. Part of working in entertainment is being able to create an atmosphere of fun and energy, as if you're flipping a light switch. Don't pull any diva antics on people who become your fans. Remember that fans can propel you from obscurity to fame. Sign autographs, answer questions, and take pictures after the show. 11. Learn how to handle criticism. Hey, it happens - no matter how great you are, some people just won't like your voice. Even world-famous singers have people who dislike them. Only listen to constructive criticism if it can actually help you improve your talent; otherwise, ignore it. Don't get into arguments or fights regarding your dreams. |

Politics / PHOTOS: Jonathan Unveils Nigeria’s First Indigenous Unmanned Aerial Vehicle by Fishbig: 9:17am On Dec 18, 2013 |
President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday in Kaduna unveiled the country's first indigenous unmanned aerial vehicle, GULMA, designed and constructed by the Nigerian Air Force. Speaking at the ceremony, Jonathan said that the unveiling of the vehicle marked another landmark moment in the nation's history. He said that besides its diverse military application, the vessel would provide a range of benefits in disaster management, power line surveys and law enforcement. Jonathan said that the vehicle would also be useful in aerial imaging/mapping, telecommunications and weather monitoring. "It is also rapidly becoming an important tool in news coverage, environmental monitoring, and oil and gas exploration. "Considering the potential impact of its benefit and versatility, I cannot but say how proud I am of the men and women of our Armed Forces. "Apart from their commitment to the protection of our sovereignty, they are helping to keep our nation ahead in military science and technology and to keep their civilian counterparts on their toes. "Today, as we stand in appreciation of the gallant men and women of our Air Force, we are reminded that hard work and diligence can break many barriers,'' he said. Jonathan commended the Chief of Air Staff and all officers and men of the Nigerian Air Force for the achievement, noting that it would strengthen the country. He said it would also enhance the nation's role in peace keeping and conflict prevention. The president said he was optimistic that this stride by the Nigerian Air Force would mark a turning point for indigenous technology in every sector of the nation's life. "Let me assure the Air Force of the Federal Government's support for this and all other research projects. "We will encourage and assist private sector concerns to key into mass production of the project to achieve the highest and best commercial use of this prototype Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. "As I said in my Independence Day address, our nation is made great by the big and small efforts of regular citizens. "Indeed, indigenous initiatives remain indispensable in achieving national greatness. "To retain the country's importance on the global stage, we must continue to produce leaders in science, technology, and engineering, and invest more in ideas,'' the president said. In his remark, Supervising Minister of Defence Labaran Maku said the development of a surveillance aircraft by the Nigerian Air Force was a bold statement of government's resolve to provide security for the Nigerian populace. Maku, who is the Minister of Information, said that the GULMA UAV would potentially afford the armed forces a window of immense opportunities in its task of acquiring timely intelligence and combating criminality. "Although the UAV was a brainchild of the Nigerian Air Force, it is important that other services and security agencies incorporate it into their operations, if its potential is to be fully harnessed. "There is therefore, the need for a comprehensive policy on UAV acquisition and operation to optimise the employment of GULMA UAV by all services and security agencies,'' he said. Earlier, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh, had said that the GULMA was designed to meet vast expectations and needs. Badeh said that the GULMA could be employed by the armed forces and security agencies for the protection of the country. He explained that the air force envisaged partnership with agencies such as NEMA and the Nigeria Air Space Management Agency for weather forecasting. "Furthermore, the GULMA, as a qualitative, timely and reliable source of information could serve as a powerful tool for media practitioners. "To sustain the current tempo of development, the NAF would require the assistance of government in infrastructure and human capacity development. 1 Like

Business / Why It Is Not That Bad To Be A Student In Nigeria by Fishbig: 1:07am On Dec 18, 2013 |
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed today that more then 50 per cent of young Nigerians were unemployed in 2012. The official data, which is contained in the 2012 National Baseline Youth Survey Report issued by the NBS and the Federal Ministry of Youths Development, is the most recent research on the Nigerian youth by the government statistics agency. According to the survey, the population of youth aged between 15 and 35 years in Nigeria is estimated to be 64 million, while females are more than males in all age groups. "about 54 percent of youth population were unemployed," says the report. Slightly more than half of these jobless people were females. The high unemployment rates among the young people means that they cannot attain their full potential, the report warns. As to the crime rates, out of 46,836 youth recorded against different types of crimes 75.5 per cent were males, while the remaining 24.5 per cent were females, the report said. "Among the 32 different crimes committed, Marijuana (Indian hemp) smoking has the highest figure, representing 15.7 per cent. "This was followed by theft and murder with 8.1 and 7.4 per cent, respectively. The least committed crime was Immigration/Emigration representing 0.04 per cent," the report reads in parts. When comes to the marriage, the report revealed that out of the group of young married people, 68 per cent were females, while only 32 per cent - males. The rate of divorce and widowhood follows similar pattern and is high among the female with 70.9 and 71.8 per cent. The study was aimed at generating empirical data to inform policy decisions made by the by the Federal Ministry of Youths Development and other partners in the country. It also aimed at providing government and other stakeholders with the data that would assist in increasing employability of the young people. |

Sports / Mancity to enrole kelechi iheanacho in Ghana by Fishbig: 11:28pm On Dec 17, 2013 |
FIFA U-17 World Cup winner, Kelechi Iheanacho who left the Super Eagles camp on Monday to seal a deal in England with Premier League contenders Manchester City may have not have his wish to appear in the colours of the Citizens materialise soon. Iheanacho took the U17 World Cup at the United Arab Emirates by storm, after being named the Most Valuable Player at the tournament. He scored six goals and had seven assists in seven appearances. His father, James revealed the news his son would be looking to seal a deal with ManchesterCity. He said: "We prayed and, after talks with family members, we came up with ManchesterCity, believing he has a future there." But technocrats like Victor Ikpeba repeatedly fumed against Iheanacho moving to ManCity as offers came from Porto in Portugal. Ikpeba said that the young player was being misled, arguing that he had a better chance of playing first team football in Portugal and developing in the Portuguese league than moving to England where it may take him a long time to find his feet. Iheanacho's family and agents did not heed Ikpeba's advice. But with the latest development Ikpeba appears vindicated. ManCity plan to enroll Iheanacho into their academy in Ghana where he will wait until he earns enough caps to qualify for a work permit. Nigeria coach Keshi revealed Iheanacho had been released from training to start negotiations with City. "I told the young man to go and do the nation proud at whichever club he finally chooses to settle down with," said Keshi. Arsenal and Manchester United were also thought to be interested in sealing a deal for Iheanacho's signature, but look to have been beaten by City. SOURCE:http://m.naij.com/news/54528.html |
