That's a fantastic idea!

The way the Chinese and Japanese solved that problem is that they first developed a MODEL for translating Western scientific words into Chinese and Japanese, respectively- such that whatever new scientific word they couldn't find in their language, they simply use that model to create new word for it. That would be a short cut instead of starting from kindergarten, although the words that would be created may be too mechanical instead of natural. But that's a different discussion.

Let me say, nobody is advocating to ban English language as it's an essential language in the world we live in today. But it's a culture made up with human being like ourselves that achieved that feat. A linguist friend of mine, Noam Chomsky, told me that ALL languages are equal and the same. I wish I could show you what I asked him and what he replied. If you want I can screenshot it.

When we prioritize our native languages in school, English would become a subject you can choose to study or not. That's the way it's done in China, Russia, Japan.
Only those interested in English language should study it.

You may have an African William Shakespeare or J.K Rollings in Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Gikuyu, Shona, Wolof, etc. But under the present system of education, we'll NEVER be able to discover them!! Many literary giants have died unknown simply because we've accepted someone's language.

A child may be very good in writing Igbo but not good in English. A child may be very good in writing Yoruba but not good in English, etc.

Again, how to begin is to prioritize our native languages in school or create a model for translation as I said earlier. It should be compulsory to get a credit in our native languages, then at least a pass in English. That's actually how it should be if we're in our right state of mind.
Wow! You are ful of knowledge and a master of communication and relay of your ideas. Are you a professor, cos you seam to be overflowing with knowledge that's beyond my scope currently.

The translation model for new words is a fantastic idea and practical too. New words no matter how mechanical they sound initially becomes natural with constant use.

Thank you so much Sir. Please feel free to enlighten me the more on this subject matter.

Taxation is important but you're exaggerating things here. The present government has plans to prune the number of taxes present in the country from 52 to 10. So, I

In today's world, you don't go far without globalization. The reason why the Naira is tumbling is due to a lack of dollars.

Foreign investment is a must considering that cost of credit (loans) is quite dear and even scarce. Soludo said that foreign investment amounting to 5% of GDP yearly for 5 years consecutively would lead to the economy overheating.

It is absolutely needed for him to drum up investment into the country. That doesn't mean he is ignoring the troubles at home. The "removal" of the fuel subsidy and attempt to unify rates are far reaching actions to indicate he isn't ignoring the local economy.

For instance, NDDC is planning to build 9 industrial estates in the states it covers.

Also, Buhari chased away many foreign investors from the country, Shoprite being the foremost example. These foreign multinationals contribute massively to the economy.

The challenges on ground are huge. Lamido Sanusi alleged that the CBN under Emefiele printed 22 trillion Naira. This alone is scary.

Tinubu does not have to run everything. That is why he has an economic team.
Foreign investors kii you there!
What of local SMEs getting required to loans to produce exportable products?

What if local production of petroleum products surpasses importation of refined crude?

Every time foreign investors this foreign investors that!

Top world economies like America, China, etc are industrialization dependant and not dependent on foreign investors ode! They produce and export to increase their Dollar reserves. Not wait for foreigners to come invest and employ them.

Nigerians including I myself have this dependancy mindset which is "Only the white man can do it cos we can't"

I already registered an organization to be able to do that but on second thought, that's the job of education, not an outside organization. It should happen at the school, beginning from kindergarten.

To do that, the first step would be to prioritize our native languages by using it to learn and write. Within a generation or two, those children would mature to adulthood and take over education into the future. Learning in our native languages would become normal to them as the problem of transportation would be solved easily by them. Only then shall we assume scientific and technological power and compete toe-to-toe with white people and the rest of the world. And that's when the wishes of president Tinubu would come to fruition.

Intelligent Africans such as Cheik Anta Diop (an African physicist from Senegal) already tried translating science works into our native languages but the problem they face is that there are no words for most scientific terminologies. He wasn't able to effectively translate from French to his native Wolof language because we're so much lost in the languages given us by our colonizers. That's the problem.

We must FIRST prioritize our native languages in school and use it for learning and literature. It's in that process that nature would naturally compel us to fill in terminologies that are not currently in our native languages in Africa.

The destruction of black civilization was total!!
Bro thanks for the new insight with regards to the lack of words for some scientific terminologies experience by the Senegalese physicist.

I'll screenshot your reply to enable me read more about him.

But don't you think we can still have a hybrid of English and local language for these scientific translations? We leave those terms that doesn't have words in our native language as they are but use Igbo for explanations and simple words.

I'm Igbo and would love to be a pioneer of Igbo based scientific books.

porthouse7:
do u buy fufu with dollars
Nigeria's economy is control by dollars because of our import based economy.

Naira is not accepted as payment outside our shores.

So importers need to change their naira to dollars to make payments.

The more a country imports stuff (Our imports surpass exports) the more their currency becomes useless or loses value.

Losing value means it's purchasing power goes down. So for eg, if you bought two Indomie with #100 don't be surprised to buy one at #100 naira next day.

Coming to dollars effect on fufu, the seller increases his or her price because fuel(remember our fuel is imported), food, transport, etc has gone up. So for him to be able to afford those, he needs to raise his price to be able to afford those things too.

That's how Dollar affects our economy.

If we export more we will have lots of dollar reserves and lower reserves if we import more.

Eg remember if you have 20 million in reserve ie your bank account, it will go down day by day if you spend more than you earn.

Imagine for instance you are the manager of a trust fund in a big market. One day you went to represent them as a chairman at a meeting. You now used the money put in your care for your personal gratification. Then when you got back and people need their money at the years end according to agreement, you start telling stories.

What do you expect the owners of the money to do?

Yes, you're right but that's due to lack of scientific know-how, which in itself is as a result of using a foreign language to learn science.

If you read the link on my signature, you'll understand fully the background causes of what you just said. But read the PDF version only.
Oh my God bro you just aligned with my thought on the barrier posed by using foreign languages to teach science here.
I once proposed for the translation of all scientific papers to our 3 major ethnic languages for easier assimilation.

Once done you'll not need to be proficient in English language to learn physics maths, chemistry, etc.

Bro I love you so much for having the same line of thought as mine in this matter.

Why not we pool resources together to translate all science books from creche to tertiary level to our native languages. If this is done, little kids in rural areas will now become inventors, etc.

Science will become second nature and natural to learn for us and our future generations.

LET'S DO THIS OR SPREAD THE MESSAGE BROTHER!

Unfortunately, there's no way we'll not be exploited by white people as long as we speak their language, get their education, believe their god.

Whoever gives language, education, religion would control you, and there's nothing you can do to stop it because he/she has interfered with your reality.

Those are the cause. Everything else is an effect.
You forgot to mention the most important of all, their technology.

If Nigeria likes, let them build paradise on Earth, The man ie westerners that control tech will always dominate us.

No matter our money we still depend on them for industrial machinery, life saving drugs or the chemicals aka raw materials for making them.

We depend on them for weaponry, training etc

We depend on them for a lot of finished goods like parts for our cars, ships, boats, etc.

We are so dependent on them so muc that we've become their lapdog.

And we know that one sanction from them banning our access to electronics and other tech stuff, we are finished cos we can't produce any replacements.

So why not our leaders use this time we are not in westerners crosshairs to systematically make us less dependent on their tech through technology transfer like China did?
