Adeola watched with curiosity as her brother stood on the balcony,she wished she could read his mind so as to have a feel of what was going on in his there.
His sadness was quite evident,he maintained an unusual routine of home to work,work to bed.
Most of the time,his meals were left untouched,she felt sad for him.She covered the dishes on the dinning and walked to meet him.
"Adekunle." She tounched him on the shoulders,he jerked,he probably hadn't heard her voice.
"Is anything the matter?" He asked facing her.
Adeola smiled,"I should you ask you that bro,you barely touched your food tonight,is this an hunger strike."
A small smile crept up the edges of his lips,"I just don't have the appetite." He managed to say,leaning on the balcony rail,he supported his chin with his hand.
"I know its about Rekia,I know she's the one you have been brooding about,please I want you take things easy."Her eyes pleaded softly.
"Disappointment is not enough to cover how I feel,you don't get it,I was willing to go all the way for her but she wouldn't even take a mile in truth with me,you know how that makes me feel?like a fool."
Adeola supported him with a smile on her face,and her hands clasped his."I really don't know the truth about this matter,but this is definitely not the time to be away from her,she needs you."
"I know."
Their conversation was interrupted by a phone call,"Its your phone,let me get it."
Adekunle watched his sister go into the sitting room and return with his phone.He checked the caller identity and ended the call.
"Why is she calling me? What is she calling me for?" Adekunle was pissed.
Adeola sighed,their elder sister had messed up big time.
"That reminds me,Jomi was here." She said.
Adekunle was surprised from that piece of information,"I hope there was no problem?"
"Well,she asked to see you,she said your number was switched off and that's why she decided to check you at home." She explained.
Adekunle was quiet.
"I thought you guys were no longer an item." Adeola asked.
"Yes,our breakup was official,this is nothing you are not aware of,Jomi broke up with me after all my pleas,she didn't even dignify me with a reason,so what's she here for?" He asked no one in particular."I have enough drama in my life as it is."
"I believe everything is going to be fine,I called aunty Jane this afternoon,because I was thinking of checking up Rekia in the hospital,but she informed me that she has been discharged." Adeola paused."Please I hope you're not going to mind because I intend to check her at home."
Adekunle closed his eyes,"You can do as you wish please."
"Thank you,let me finish the documentary I was watching on tv." She left the balcony.
Adekunle was in thoughts again,the first time he was confused was when his sister left home,the second time was when his mother fell ill,the third time was when his first love broke up with him,but now he was confused because he confused.

All way led to the church where the couple were being joined together as man and wife,the church programme ended by 12pm,the couple were driven to the reception.
Where everyone was waiting for them,it was a beautiful ceremony.
Hannah was glowing beautifully in her flowing gown,while her husband was adorned in a white suit.he looked breathtaking,and they were a lovely sight to behold.
They had their first meal as couples,danced and received gift from well wishers.The couple were flown to Abuja for their honeymoon.
Their friends and well wishers ate to satisfaction,and sourveniers were received from families and colleagues.Everyone danced happily as the reception party came to an end.
Biyisi beamed with happiness,her daughter was successfully married to her hearthrob.Kenneth and his children were there too.Funmi and Jackie were there too.
Jane and Adetoun and Rekia were there,Kelvin was there with two of his friends,Adekunle was there,he had introduced Rekia to Jacob,Jane,Biyisi as his girlfriend,if any of them where displeased,no one uttered any negative word,,Adeola was also in attendance.
Jacob,Jaiye,Paul and another of their friend was in attendance.Everybody seemed to be feeling the joyful vibes except Adetoun,as she continued to monitor Adekunle's every movement.
It was some minutes past five and most of the well wishers had gone,only their family and friends were there.From where she sat with Kelvin,she saw Rekia sitting by Adekunle and Adeola.And it seemed that Adeola was happy to see Rekia together with her brother.
Kelvin had caught her starring at Rekia twice.He sipped his drink happily.Until he noticed that Adetoun was drinking too much.He sent her a message on her phone,which she ignored and refilled her glass.
"You're drinking too much." Kelvin cautioned her,whispering into her ears stylishly.
Adetoun merely smiled at him and refilled her glass again,Kelvin grabbed the drink before she could lift it to her mouth,it almost spilled on his buba.
"Be careful." He warned her.
Rekia and Adekunle who were not aware of what was going on,laughed happily.
Adetoun got up angrily,and walked towards Rekia.
"You again."
Rekia looked up surprised.
"Adetoun please don't create a scene." Adekunle said to her.
Kelvin went to join her,"Please excuse me." He said pulling her outside,but she was adamant.
"Leave my younger brother alone." She said,her voice getting loud,as others looked towards them.
Adekunle got up,and held Rekia's hand,he led her outside towards his car.
Adetoun followed them,with Kelvin after her heels.Jacob and Jane also came out to see what's going on.
"Come back here." Toun shouted,she was quite tipsy.
Adekunle confronted her,"Please stop embarrassing yourself." He replied her.
"What's happening here?" Jacob questioned.
"Nothing sir." Kelvin anwsered quickly.
"Tell this bitch to leave my brother alone."
"I love her sis."
"You don't understand anything lil brother,this woman knows better."Toun replied.
Kelvin held Toun's hand,"Please don't mind her,she's a bit tipsy.
"No,I'm not ,I am perfectly fine,it is this woman here that is sick."
"Toun calm down,let's talk about this after the party." Jane spoke for the first time.
"No,now is this time."
"Adetoun stop doing this." Rekia said.
"Are you begging me to keep your dirty little secret from my brother?because I know he is not even aware." She laughed sarcastically.
"Adetoun no."
"Rekia what is she talking about?" Adekunle asked.
"Its nothing,she's drunk,let's leave here."
"Not so fast baby."Toun liked the fact that she had gotten their attention with the mention of dirty little secret,with Rekia's face looking pale.
"Toun stop it." Kelvin pleaded.
"Tell this woman that doesn't have a vagina to stop following my brother around." Toun said.
"I said it sis,you're drunk."Adekunle picked Rekia's hand and turned to leave.
Rekia wished the ground would open up and swallow her instantly.
"I am not done,kunle.You can't marry this girl because she doesn't have a vagina,I repeat it she doesn't have a vagina." Toun spat in Rekia's face.
A hush fell on everyone,with Rekia's eyes closed.She opened her eyes to see Adekunle's car driving off.Her legs were failing her and before she knew it.It gave way under her.And she fell.
Jacob grabbed her before she got to the floor,he got into his car.Adeola and Jane sat with a limp Rekia in the back seat as she was being rushed to the hospital.
Toun waited for the applause that never came,she turned to talk to Kelvin but he was gone.
She pinched herself to be sure,this was not a dream.
She closed her eyes,
breathed in and out,she repeated three this action,three good times.

Alas,it was true.She was there,standing alone.What have I done? She screamed,as it dawned on her the consequences of her action.

Jane prepared the kids,and their box,they were leaving for her mum's house where the engagement party would take place on Friday.
It was Thursday and she was very excited for her sister.she had her well tailored iro and buba with matching gele and shoes sitting gallantly in her box and everything was in place.
Eve would be the little bride,and her white flowery gown and been tailored to fit her,her hair was newly made that afternoon.
Her husband would join them on friday morning.
She was taking Aisha with her,and her own dress was made too.Nnamdi would come to the wedding on Saturday and then return home after the reception.
"Hello" she picked her phone.it was the caterer.
"Good afternoon ma,I want to ask what time the engagement would start."
Jane gave her the necessary details,since they had all gone through the menu before.Her sister-in-law would be bringing the cake.
Her phone rang again,"Ahh what did you forget to ask?" She said.
"Its Ajoke."
"Ajoke,I didn't check the caller ID "
"I just put to bed this morning,a beautiful baby girl."
"Congratulations darling."
"Thanks dear,seems I'm going to miss Hannah's wedding." She said sadly.
"Don't worry,we all understand,I'll inform Cynthia for you,please don't over work yourself for me,and take care of the baby." Jane said happily.
Jane told the children and they were happy too.
The driver came in to inform her that the car was ready,he packed their boxes and they all got into the car.

Brooding had become the other of the day for Rekia,she ate little.Her heart was heavy.The people she expected to support her were standing as stumbling block on her way.
She had no one to explain her plight to,she was alone in this world.Adekunle had brought so much joy into her life within a short period of time and Adetoun was threatening that happiness big time.
Her phone rang,she knew who it was.The time was quater past twelve,and Adekunle calls her by that time,which happened to be his lunch break.
"Hello." She said cradling the phone to her ear.
"Hello sweetheart,how are you doing today?" He asked happily.
"I'm good."
"You missing me?"
"Yes."
"I'll drop by after work."
"Please don't." She pleaded.
"Why,is my sister giving you any trouble there?"
"Not at all,she's just cool."
"Rekia talk to me."
"Kunle please I'm fine." She snapped at him.
There was a pause,and then his voice came over."Its alright,stay cool for me,I'll call you later,I love you."
Rekia dropped the phone and held her head,it was aching.

Preparations were in earnest towards Hannah's wedding coming up by the weekend.Aso ebi had been sold to all those concerned.Friends,families and well wishers looked forward to that day.
Most of her bridal accessories were shopped for at Dubai,with Rekia's assistance.
Hannah and Adegoroye had written their own vows,and they were through with their marriage counselling.Her pre wedding pictures had put up on her facebook page with over 300likes from her friends.
Her bridal gown hung in her wardrobe,and everything was just in place for the d-day.
Her major concern was Adetoun who always found a way to quarel with Rekia,no matter how much the latter avoided her.
Rekia no longer ate with them at the dinning,she preferred the coffers of her room.it was exactly three days to her wedding when Toun as routine started one of those her fights.
Hannah herself was furious as they almost blew down the house,"Adetoun please stop all this." She had screamed at Toun.
"So you are now taking sides with her right?"
"Toun please grow up,and stop fighting Rekia,we're supposed to rally round her not expose her to the world." Hannah replied.
Toun continued to tap her legs,"Then tell her not to come near my brother again,if not,I will surprise the two of you."
Like a blow to the sides of her head,Rekia charged towards Toun,"What will you do?"Her eyes spitting black fire.
"I will do everything,I'll let the cat out of the bag,I will."
"You won't dare." Rekia screamed back at her.
"Oh no,you two should stop." Hannah cried.
"Rekia you have dared me,and I will deal with you,trust me I will,my brother will see you and take to his heels." Toun shouted at the top of her voice.
"Adetoun are you out of your mind?"Hannah was crying."Please don't do something you will regret for the rest of your life,please." She pleaded.
"Were you not here when she was daring me,what did you do?ehen."
"Fine,you're no longer my chief bridesmaid,and Rekia I don't want to see you at my wedding." Hannah spat and walked out.
Toun sat down and so did Rekia.Rekia followed Hannah,but she refused to open her door.
They all slept that night,not much later the next day,it was afternoon yet Hannah had not come out of her room.
Rekia rushed to call Toun,"Hannah has not come out of her room all day." She said.
"Please get out of this place."Toun hissed before getting up.
They knocked and knocked but there was no response,they were beginning to get afraid now.
"Let's break down the door."Toun suggested.
"I'll get the hammer." Rekia volunteered.
As the hammer landed heavily on the door latch,there was a loud laughter from the room.And Hannah came out.
"What kind of joke is that?" Toun said dropping the hammer on the floor.
"I just want you to tolerate each other,if not for anything,at least for my wedding,look ,after the wedding,we'll settle down and solve this issue." Hannah pleaded softly.
"As long as you'll let me remain your chief bridesmaid."
"You're welcome,what kind of wedding would I have without the two of you." Hannah embraced Toun first and then Rekia.

Kelvin drove slowly as he watched the woman sleeping beside him.He was glad that they were finally going to be married.He couldn't wait to take her home as his wife.
She was obviously troubled,he thought to himself.He had gone to pick her from work as her car had a mechanical fault.And she had fallen asleep ten minutes into their drive which was unusual.He placed his palms on her forehead.Her temperature was okay.
He was almost at her place,when she woke up."Did you dream about me?" He asked.
She smiled and sat up.
"Tell me please."
"No"
Kelvin pretended to be angry.
"Just kidding you,I dreamt about you."She said.
Kelvin smiled,"That's better."
"I am tired."
"That's because you've been worrying yourself for nothing."
How did he know I was worried? She thought to herself.
"I am not worried." She countered.
"You're a bad liar." He teased her."He used his right hand to hold her hand,"Whatever it is,you can confide in me,but if you're not willing to share,I'll let it pass." He winked at her.
"Its Rekia."
"What about her?"
"She's having an affair with Adekunle."
Toun paused to let the effect sink in him.
"Wait,Rekia and Adekunle are having an affair,to which you're not pleased with from the countenance on your face." He said.
"Yes."
"Holy shit."
"Just imagine it."
"So what's the point,why are you worried,if two consenting adult are having an affair?"
"She is older than him."

Kelvin concentrated on his driving,swearing after a bike man who jumped into his lane out of no where.
"Let them be." He said finally.

"Is there more to the story?" He questioned as he brought the car to a halt right in front of her house.

He pecked her on the cheeks,"Help me understand my dear."

Kelvin got down to open the door for her to go down,he pecked her on the cheeks,got into the car and drove off.
Why did everybody think she was over reacting,no,its because they only know half of the story.This battle was hers to fight.She had let them make other decisions because she was away and now that she was back,she wouldn't sit and watch her brother fall into a ditch.She marched inside the gate,clutching her bag too hard.

STRESSED OUT was the only word that fitted the description of how she felt,as she got home.She was drained of energy,work had been tedious with so many demand for their market.Christmas was still far away but it was beginning to take its toil.And she had gone to see her mother,concerning Hannah's wedding,and they talked far into the afternoon.
"Welcome welcome welcome." The children shouted rushing out to greet her.
"Welcome mummy."
"How are you my babies?" She smiled dropping her handbag on the sofa."How was school today?"
"School was fine,I came first in our class test today." Adam said proudly.
Jane picked him up,"That's my big boy." She tickled him and laughed out.
"Mummy I came second." Eve stood there unhappy.
"Don't worry,next time you'll come first." She embraced her daughter.
"Welcome ma." Aisha greeted her coming into the sitting room.She had a bag slung across her shoulder.she had passed her Waec and was preparing for Jamb.
"How are you,are you just coming back from your lesson?" She asked glancing at the wall clock.

"Alright,go and drop your bag and then come back."
"Okay ma." She curtsied and left.
"Have my babies eaten?"
"Yes mummy,I had cornflakes with milk,but Adam took goldenmorn with milk."
"That's good,right now mummy is tired,I went to see grandmama Bibi,and mummy is also hungry." She told her kids.
"Sorry mummy." Eve said,"Let me help you carry your bag."
She carried Jane's bag as they climbed the stairs up to their parents bedroom.
"Mummy don't worry when I grow big,I'll carry you up the stairs." Adam boasted and they all laughed.
It was much later,after dinner that she began to get worried that Jacob was unusually late.She read the kids their bed time story and played with them till they slept off.She covered them up.
She lingered for a minute,watching the children sleep peacefully unaware of the issues their parent were battling.She wished that she was a child once again.
After one final look,she closed the door and went into the sitting room.
"Nnamdi?" She called.

"Is your oga back?"
"No."He shook his head.
"Okay,bring me some of those potatoe pancakes you made this evening and a glass of milk." She said putting on the flat screen tv.she changed channels and finally decided to watch Zee world.
Nnamdi dropped the tray by her,and she picked a piece of the pancake,she bite a part and munched it.It was tasty and she enjoyed it.
It was some minutes past nine when she decided to forget her ego and call her husband's phone.She listened as the network provider relayed to her that his phone had been switched off,after several trials she put off the tv,because she was feeling sleepy already.
She went up to her room,and got in bed.she slept off almost immediately.It must have been over an hour after when she woke up,the noise of his entry must have woken her.She saw her husband coming in,he staggered and it was obvious that he was drunk.
"Baby baby baby." He said inaudibly coming towards her.
"I love my baby,my baby loves me." He sang this time.
"Baby baby baby,I love my baby,my baby loves me,I want my baby." He sang louder falling by her.
"Are you okay?" She asked getting out of bed to help him up.
"I want you." He whispered in her ears.she jerked his hands away.
"Come to me baby." He laughed out loud,grabbing her by the waist."I miss you,I miss your body,I want to make love to you."
Jane was furious with the way he was handling her,"Not tonight please."
"Now,kiss me." He ordered her.
Jane tried to hid her face away from him.
"Don't play games,I know you want me too." He pulled her towards the bed.
Jane was tired,she didn't have the strength to push him away.The thought of him coming into her,filled her heart with bitterness.
She fell on the bed with a thud,and he pulled off her robe and began to kiss her mouth hungrily and with anger.Against her wish she laid down her body on the slaughter slab as a sacrifice to appease his lordship's anger.

"What is the matter again?" Hannah asked clearing the table after their dinner of semovita and egusi soup."Ehen...one of you had better talk now." She left the sitting room for the kitchen and returned some minutes later.
She sat on the three seater couch,and looked at her friends who were both playing dumb."You girls should just talk now,whatever it is,let's settle it please." She pleaded softly.
Toun let out a slow long hiss and adjusted in her seat,"Please ask your dearest Rekia,she is the one who has got some explanations to give."
"Rekia,what is the matter?" Hannah asked.
Rekia's eyes were heavy and she looked tired,and a sad gloom hung over her face."Its nothing."
Toun got up in fury and charged towards Rekia,thanks to Hannah's timely intervention,she hung Toun's hand in mid air."Toun please respect yourself and stop being childish,ah ah what's the meaning of this now?" Hannah chided her friend.
"Didn't you hear her? She said its nothing,like its nothing for real hhhm,tell me Hannah,is it truly nothing for her to be misleading my brother?please ask her for me." Toun fumed pacing about.
Now Hannah was getting a clearer picture."What do you mean about Rekia misleading your brother?"
"Ask Rekia abeg."
"Rekia please what's the matter." Hannah asked.
"I am having an affair with Adekunle." She stated innocently making it sound like Hannah had not been aware of the whole issue from start.
"Oh no,tell me you're joking."Hannah said covering her mouth with her left palm.
"Can you now see what I am talking about,she wants to ruin his life,I didn't even know it was my brother that she had been blabbering about these past weeks."Toun said.
"Okay calm down."
"I am calm o." Toun returned to her seat.
"Rekia is this a two weeks thing or are you serious with him?" Hannah said starring at her friend.
Rekia closed her eyes,bit her lips and then opened her eyes again."I love him." A single tear glided down the side of her face.
"Hmm,what did I hear you right? You love him,Are you out of your freaking mind,what has come over you,see this common hausa girl o,you better wake up from your slumber,because the next time I smell you a mile to my brother,I will beat the hell out of you." Toun threatened angrily.
Hannah looked on confused,"I don't think you should be saying that,what we should establish is if Adekunle is also in love her,it could be a mutual thing."
"To hell with mutual,this girl has brainwashed my brother,and I am having none of it,I swear down you will live to regret the first day you set eyes on him." Toun hissed,got up and walked out of the sitting room slamming the door hard.
There was an awkward silence in the air that filled the room,"Hmmmm" Hannah sighed.
"How did she find out?" Hannah crossed over to sit by Rekia.
With tears filled eyes,she narrated all that happened to Hannah.
Hannah patted her shoulders,"You should have been more careful,eh I warned you about this,now look at what is happening."
"She said she would be visiting her mum,didn't know she would be returning early." Rekia explained.
"Toun is extremely angry with you,If I say that I know a way out,I am lieing to you."
"What am I going to do,what I know for sure is that,I am not going to give him up,not without a fight." Rekia said wiping her face with the back of her palms.
Hannah squeezed Rekia's palm,"Don't start anything messy,let's take it step by step.The first thing I want to know is,is Adekunle also in love with you?"
"Yes,he loves me too."
"Is he ready to stand for you in front of the world?"
"He promised."
"And have you told him?"
Rekia shaked her head.
"You should tell him,that's the deciding factor."
"Do you think that's why Toun doesn't want me to be with him."
"I'm sorry,but that's the only reason I can think of."
"Ooh talk abot true friends." Rekia bit her lips,"Do you think she will tell him."
"I don't think so,that's why I insist that you keep him in the know,that's only when we can know what next to do."
Rekia had a call,"Its him." She whispered.
Hannah watched as beautiful rays of light settled into those eyes of Rekia's.This must be love.she concluded.As Rekia mouthed the words 'I love you too.' Hannah smiled.
"Rekia please I want you to be patient with Toun,I believe she'll come around."
Rekia embraced Hannah,"You've been more than a friend to me,you're the sister I never had,thanks for being here for me."
"You're welcome." Hannah patted her back.As sudden darkness came over the house.The generator had just gone off.No petrol.

Jane poured herself a glass from the bottle of water before her,she felt better after securing a comfortable booth to seat while waiting for her friends.she pondered over the issues that were troubling her poor mind.
Honestly,her husband's plea were irresistible,but she couldn't bear to see him raise his hands on her again,this new Jacob was so unlike the man she married.She was shedding so much weight these days.
She let her mind drift towards her store,sales were tripple the usual because of the approaching Christmas festival.
She glanced up in time to see Ajoke wobbling towards her."Please sit down." She said helping her to the seat in front of her."Oh mine,you're so heavy."
"Ahh my dear,I am." She smiled adjusting in her sit."How are you too? And where is Cynthia?"
"I am fine o,and Cynthia is on her way too."Jane poured Ajoke water from the bottle,Ajoke accepted and gulped it down at once.
"How is Engineer?"
"My husband is fine and kicking."

There was a beep from Jane's phone,it was Cynthia asking where they were seated."We're at the far end of the restaurant,right hand side."
Jane saw Cynthia walking towards them,she wondered why her friend hadn't opted for modelling,with those long straight legs.
"Good afternoon ladies." She said dropping her bag and making herself comfortable.A waiter walked smartly towards them in a sky blue shirt neatly tucked in his black pants,and shiny black shoes.
His face was adorned with a flattering smile,he was a young man in his early twenties."Good afternoon ma's" he spoke fluently."You're welcome to Spicy N Tasty,here is our menu." He handed them three cards.
The name on his tag read Emeka Ono,he stood aside while the women made their choices.He accepted the cards with a bow and went away.
"What kept you?" Ajoke asked.
"Traffic jam now,this is Lagos Nigeria." She laughed.
"I like this your blouse o." Jane said.
"Jaiye bought it when he travelled to Dubai last week." She beamed happily.
"I envy you my dear." Ajoke laughed."My husband doesn't have time for that,he prefers to give me the money to go shopping."
"How's the family?"
"We're fine o,how about you?" Ajoke asked.
"Just doing good my sister.You are heavy ."Cynthia said."See your stomach." She laughed just in time when their food arrived.The waiter set the dishes,and returned with their drinks and glasses."Enjoy your meal." He smiled before walking away.
Cynthia blessed the food,and they began to eat,they were quiet at first before Cynthia broke the silence."Guess what ladies?"
"What?" Ajoke and Jane asked in unison.
"Guess na."
"No,you tell us." Ajoke said.
"I'm pregnant."
"Oh" Jane exclaimed.
"Congratulations dear." Ajoke said.
"I and my husband are excited,I'll start showing soon,and I can't wait to craddle one of those little angels again." She smiled heartily,using her knife to cut a part of the chicken,she picked the piece with her fork and ate.
Jane was happy for her friend,but she envied her.She had always wanted another child but her husband would not hear it.Getting preggy was the last thing in her list as she had enough in her plate already.She really wanted to share her plight with her friends,but getting to it was an issue.
"Christmas is around the corner." She said instead.
"Yes,forty days away,I'm due nextweek." She whispered to her friends.
"Great."Cynthia bubbled.
Jane's phone was ringing,she hushed her friends to keep their voice down,while she picked her call."I'm fine." She laughed into the mouthpiece.
"And the family?" Chuks voice boomed over the phone.
Jane smiled,"We're doing fine,thanks for the other day."
"I have told you to stop thanking me,anyone would have done the same,but if you insist on showing your gratitude,how about lunch next weekend." He asked.
"Oh...em....its okay." She answered without thinking.
"Awwh my daughter will be so happy to meet you,you can come with your kids too."He said.
"There's no problem."
"Alright,my regards to your family,bye for now." Jane pressed the end button and dropped her phone.
There was an awkward silence at the table,"Now what's with the silence?" She questioned.
"Nothing."Cynthia answered.
"Well,that smile on your face while you held that conversation is priceless,is that a crush?" Ajoke asked straight up."Or an admirer?"
"You this woman,take your time o,crush? I'm a married woman please." Jane added jokingly,while fumbling with the hem of her blouse.
"Anyway,that was a friend,he's a doc."
"And?"
"And nothing,just invited I and the kids for lunch with his daughter."
"Is he divorced?"
"No, widowed."
"And Jacob is not going to mind?"
"We're having issues." Jane blurted.
Both women dropped their cutleries and stared at her.
"Issues?"Ajoke asked.
"Yes."
"Look,you can talk to us,a problem shared is half solved." Cynthia added.
Jane wondered what part she was going to share,she drank some water,folded her hands on her laps and looked at her friends.
"He's having anger issue,and he is venting it on me,we quarell a lot these days."She tried to explain carefully withholding the beating part.
"Are you sure you're not doing something to get him angry,because the Jacob I know,is everything a woman needs in a man." Cynthia said.
Ajoke held her friends hand,"Everything is going to be fine,take everything to God in prayer,we all know your husband is a good man,and you're a good person,don't give the devil a chance in your family my dear."
"I won't,thanks."Jane murmured.She didn't feel any better from their responses.This was her issue and she would trash it as such.
"I'll be travelling to Dubai to do some christmas shopping for my family." Cynthia said to lighten the atmosphere.
"That's good,how are preparations for the wedding?" Ajoke asked.
Jane smiled,"We're pushing it,the samples for the aso-ebi is ready and every other thing is in place."
"That's some good news to the ears,I'll send the money to your account,so when should I be expecting my package?" Ajoke asked.
"By tomorrow in the afternoon." Jane answered,they finished their meals and drinks before leaving.

"The kitchen."
"You're going to cook for me?"
"No,smart-ass,I plan to kiss you dumb."
She let him clasp his hand and twirled her around.
She laughed.
He hummed the melody from Timi Dakolo's "Iyawo mi" in low husky notes that weren't precisely on key,which somehow made the gesture irresistibly masculine.
The moment's shyness Adekunle had felt was gone as he curved his hands to her back and brought her close.With a sigh,she snuggled up to him,lifting her face into the hollow of his throat and nestling it there.Mmmm,he smelled good.What was that cologne? It made her want to inhale deeply,to drink in as much of it as she could.
"I need to tell you something." Rekia said quietly.
"It can wait."He smiled.
"No,please let me tell you now."
"Wrong timing." He nuzzled her hair and said something,perhaps her name.she could feel his arm braced against her back,and the tips of his splayed fingers curling around her side.It was a possessive,intimate thing he did.She could feel it,and she loved it.
Her collarbone showed in the boat neckline of her top.She had worn the tee purposely,hoping he would notice.He had.She could see the appreciation in his gaze as it drifted down.He glanced at her mouth,but only for a moment.
Now he really was touching her,the way every woman wanted to be touched,lightly,with the pad of his thumb,as if the slope of her throat was so fascinating he could explore it for hours and never solve the mystery of feminine softness.
Rekia was being tugged and pulled at,sensations stirred in her depths.They were thrillingly familiar,and at the same time,there was this ravishing warmth,this plummeting warmth.she was having trouble breathing,as his lips descended on hers,she wasn't the only one struggling with the fundamental bodily functions.He was kissing her,his hands unbuttoning her blouse.

He unhooked her bra,and his hands surrounded mould of soft succulent flesh,his lips darted for her firm nipples glaring shamelessly at him.His other hand played with the other nipple.Rekia was feeling the rush of adrenaline,this man was driving her crazy.
His hands moved towards her shorts and she stiffened,it was too obvious.Adekunle looked at her,she had grown pale all of a sudden.
"Did I hurt you?" He couldn't help but ask.
"No." She said picking her blouse.
"What did I do wrong?"
"Nothing."
"You went stiff baby,surely something must have gotten you upset."
"Nothing."
He grabbed her hands and pulled her closer,her back resting against the counter.He kissed her but she didn't respond.
"I knew it." He inhaled and exhaled quickly.
Rekia tried to avoid his eyes.
"This is the third time you're bluffing me,why don't you want us to consummate this relationship?"
"You won't understand."
"Try me."
"No...Adekunle no....I really don't want to lose you."
"Is it your first time?"
"Not now."
"When?"
"Please don't make me cry."She pleaded softly.
Adekunle placed her head on his chest."I'll wait until you're ready,I don't want to rush you but I can't stop myself from falling all over,each time I come close to you."He whispered in her hair.
She was quiet."Promise me you'll never leave."
"I cross my heart." His hands crossed on his chest.
"I love you so much."
"I love you a million times."Adekunle smiled.He kissed her lightly on the cheeks.They moment was interrupted by a car horn.
Rekia disentangled from him,"One of them is back,it should be Hannah."
"Okay."
"You need to hide." She said holding his hands as she led the way to her bedroom.
"No,there's no need to hide,and we cannot continue to keep our love under a bushel." He insisted.
"I know,but now is not the time."
"Is that it?"
"What?"
"Are you ashamed of me?"
"No...never,I'm proud of you,I'm just not ready."
"I am ready to introduce you to the world as my better half." He boasted.Rekia's heart did a summersalt,she loved this man to pieces.
"Fine...we'll talk about this,please don't come out,please." She pleaded and closed the door firmly,before going to open the gate.

Another step closer and she used the spray,focusing on his eyes.But the man was smarter,faster,either as a result of reflex,he bent down and stepped aside fast,narrowly missing the spray.He held out his hands.
"I'm not here to harm you." He said at a safe distance.
"What do you want?"Jane screamed at him.
"Thought you were stranded,I was only meaning to help."
"I'm sorry."
"I understand." The man nodded,"Can I come close now?"
"You can."
At a closer distance,he looked quite harmless apart from his black essembles.He removed his shades.
"I drove past a while ago,and saw you waving down cars and now returning you're still,so I decided to see if you're stranded and needed help." He finished.
"That was thoughtful of you sir.I really need a ride to get to the bus stop,but none of the cars would stop."She explained.
"Well,this is a dangerous spot,a public cementry is just a mile away,and drivers have been said to pick up ghost,that's why people don't stop here,please let's move away." He said leading her to his car.
Jane was scared,no wonder,all the cars kept speeding away.she followed the man to his car,he looked like someone that could be trusted.
He opened the passengers seat at the front,and she climbed in the car,locked the door,and went round to get in.
"Thank you." She muttered.
"You're welcome." He ignited the car and drove on.
"Dr. Chukwuma Anumunu is my name,but everyone calls me Dr. Chuks,my patients inclusive." He smiled."You can just call me Chuks.
Jane glanced at his hands,it held nor ring,didn't he see that she was a married woman.she held her purse in such a way that her fingers were on top and her wedding band very visible.
"Mrs J. Smith." She answered politely.
"You don't have to add the 'Mrs',I know you're married,you don't look single,you have a band on your finger that says married."
"And if you're single at this age,I will advice you to see my pastor." Jane couldn't resist a smile too.He seemed warm and jovial.
"If you don't mind,would you share with me what happened,on why you're standing in the middle of the road at this time of the night."
Jane sighed.
"It's alright if you don't want to talk about it,being a stranger and all."
"I don't mind."
"Thank God."
Jane told him what transpired between her and her husband that evening in the car,she was glad that he didn't interupt her.She didn't know it,but it felt right to just speak her mind.He was a good listener.
"You must have done something to get him angry." He said.
"No,I didn't even say a word."
"Well,from a man's perspective,that's enough to get a man angry and i don't want to judge until I've heard his side of the story.Every relationship needs communication,talk,speak and sort things out,its the greatest asset that can be wielded,and its affordable,all you have to do is open your mouth.Anyway,women are a handful"
"You think I'm lying.?"
"You don't look like one."
"Why are you taking his side."
"Well,in my profession,the first thing is never judge a person by his/her partners testimony,listen to them first,I'm a psychologist,clinical and counselling doctorate." Chuks said.
"Maybe we need to talk better."
"There's no need for that." Jane supplied quickly.
"If you insist."
"How far is it, to the bus stop?"
"In some few minutes,but I will prefer to drop you at home."
"That's so thoughtful of you,but don't worry I'll get a cab.I only hope madam is not going to be angry that you're out late." Jane wanted to know if he was married.
He was hesitant,"No,she's not going to be angry,she was watching her favorite cartoon when I left home,and she'll be asleep when I get back,tomorrow is a weekend,no school,but I have to take her to see her optician,she can't read her story book without complaint."
Jane was a bit confused,"Your madam?"
"Yes I answer only to her.She's Chioma,five years and in Basic one class,she's a handful." Chuks said,his eyes glistened,he looked happy and excited."I have a feeling you're going to be meeting her soon,she'll love to meet you too."
"I mean your wife,is she not going to complain?"
"Oh no,she's never going to complain."
"Never?"
"Yeah,she's dead."

Jacob paced about the sitting room,he had removed his suit and tie,just his unbuttoned shirt and his trousers.He look disheveled,he couldn't fathom how he could have done that to his wife.
His wrist watch clocked eight on the dot,he was sweating in a fully conditioned room.He had driven back to the spot where he dropped her two times.But she was no where to be found.Where could she have gone to?
It was his fault again,he should have thought better,rather than letting his anger get the part of him.What a costly mistake.He couldn't bear it,if anything happened to his dear Oyin.she was his happiness,his confidence and the mother of his children.
For how long would he continue to vent his anger on her,she was not even the course of his problem,why was he allowing her to suffer.
He was tired,and edgy now as he parted the blinds and looked out.she wasn't in sight.The minute the big gate sounded,he rushed out and on sighting her,he sighed in relief.Jane watched him go on his knees,lifting his eye to heavens muttering God knows what.
She walked inside and up the stairs to their bedroom,she sat on the bed,and unbuckled her shoe,removed her necklace and pearls.she got up and moved to the dressing table,where she applied cleanser to wool and cleaned all traces of make up from her face,she rubbed a cleaning ointment before getting up.
She undressed and stepped into the shower.It was a body soothing bath,she soaked her body in water and she felt better.She changed into her robe,and went to check on the kids,they were fast asleep.Her husband sat on the couch staring at a blank screen.
She found some warm milk in the kitchen,and cold chicken too.she sat by the kitchen table and ate playing games on her phone.she was going to try her best to stay out of trouble she promised herself.She tried not to think of what happened,but her mind kept wandering back to it.She had a call on her phone,it was Dr. Chuks,she picked it,he was calling to check if she was home now,she thanked him,it was from her heart,because she was indeed greatful.
She finished eating and returned to her room,she could hear Jacob's approaching feet.she put off the bedside lamp,pulled the covers and shut her eyes,tightly.
Jacob put on the lamp,she could feel it.He tapped her gently."Oyindunmade." He called carefully like a child.
She debated between pretending to be asleep and answering him,she chose the latter."Yes." She pulled away the covers.
"Please I want to speak with you."
He looked quite innocent and sober too,what he had to say,she was sure he had planned it well.
"I am sure you're tired of hearing me say that I am sorry." He began."Well,I am truly sorry,I shouldn't have given in to anger,I promise... ..."
"Please keep your promises."Jane cut him short,"Just keep it."
Jacob rubbed his palms together,"You deserve to be angry with me,I know,but I am pleading with you.I don't know what came over me."
"Are you sure that what came over you has stopped coming,you need to pull your acts together,its frustrating,did you know what you did to me tonight?"Her voice was pitches high and wavering from sobs about to burst.
"You left me on the road,at such an hour,at that deadly cementry,and drove off,like I didn't matter one bit to you,what explanation is rational enough for such an attitude?"
"None."
"Good,what if something had happened to me? What would you have told my people? You were so heartless tonight,you drove off unflinching,you didn't care at all."
"I did drive back two times,but you were not there,I came back for you." He explained.
"It's late,too late." She cried as tears strolled down her cheeks.
Jacob couldn't hold her in his arms,and he felt bad at making her go through all that."I'm sorry."
"Sorry is just not enough,you have become something that I cannot explain,I don't even know if I can still address you as my husband,because it sounds tasteless in my mouth." She said getting up,she picked a kleenex on the dressing table and dabbed at her face.
"I haven't been the best of husband of late,but I'm willing to change." He pleaded.
"Change?change?change,just don't drive me insane.If there is something eating up,if something is wrong,confide in me,let's go through it together,and stop venting your childish anger on me." She spat,rushing into the bathroom,she slid the door shut and pulled the curtain..
Jacob felt a moist on his face,they were tears,he quickly wiped it off.He was a strong man,and strong men don't cry.Had he pushed his wife this far? Oh how disappointing.He had to find a way to make things right.It was now obvious that his mother had not informed her about it,But telling her the truth,was that an option he could risk?

Excitement shot through her body as she put finishing touches to the meal.She had arranged the potato omellet in a dish,the sardine coleslaw in another,and her favorite gizdodo.Her guest would beg her for more,she laughed to herself.As she placed the freshly made cold orange juice on the dinning.
She sang as she took her bath,this was something different,this is love.Her friends must have felt the same way with their fiances.She used to think they were foolish at first,but Love was something capable of making even the wisest man foolish.
He had informed her that he was just twenty minutes drives away.She dressed up quickly wearing a white sleeveless top with faded blue jeans,her braid pulled together in a bun.She sprayed a fruity cologne.she loved how it thrilled her nostrils.The house was warm,just the atmosphere she needed.
It was weekend and both her friends were visiting their bae.Toun had informed her that,she would be going to visit her mum later in the day.It was just a perfect weekend.After lunch,she would tell him her dark secret.She had this feeling that he was going to accept her for who she was.She felt confident.
She had just sat on a comfortable couch when her phone buzzed,he was the one.He was here,he had arrived.She almost ran to the gate,and smiled happily as he drove in and parked his car.They had the house to themselves.
He handed her a bunch of beautiful flowers,she accepted it from him and embraced him,before going in holding hands like long lost lovers.He brought a bottle of wine with him.He looked handsome in his black polo,and jeans,he was clean shaven and walked smartly.He was two feets taller than her,just the kind of man she had always dreamed of.He met all her standards and even more.God had blessed her truly.
The aroma's from the dishes wafted through his nose,as he stepped in.Rekia led him to the dinning.And they sat down.He was staring at her openly,like a prized item in a gift shop.
"What is it?" Rekia looked away shyly.Oh my God,she felt shy.Rekia? Shy? Love must be mad.
He intensified his gaze,"You're beautiful,you're my dream come true baby." He smiled lazily.

Oh no! The butterflies,they were real,she could feel it now.she blushed and smiled back at him."I wish I had met you earlier."
"Me too."
"Let's have lunch before it gets cold." Rekia dished him a nice portion.
And they ate silently at first,"This is delicious,do I get to take some home?" He asked.Rekia nodded in the affirmative.He told her about his childhood,his family,his schooling and work.Rekia also gave him brief sketches.
Lunch ended,and they moved to the couch,sipping from their wine glasses as they watched a dvd.Rekia rested her head on his chest,and he had his hands around her waist.They definitely looked good together.
They were quiet,engrossed in the captivating movie.They didn't even hear the door open.
"Hello o" Toun said flinging her bag on the chair,she had seen her brother's car in the garage but now seeing Rekia in his arms sent jittery down her spine.
Both of them were startled,glancing back at the same time.Rekia was faced with the worst of her nightmares.she quickly got up.
"What's happening here?" She asked no one in particular,but Rekia and Adekunle knew the question was thrown to them.
Adekunle looked quite relaxed unlike Rekia was beginning to feel cold.
"Welcome back sister." Adekunle smiled to ease the awkwardness in the room.The temperature had trippled over.
Toun looked from Rekia to brother,"What's happening here?" She repeated,perhaps they didn't hear her at first.
"I came to visit my girlfriend." Adekunle took the bull by the horn.
"Who?"
"Rekia."
Toun laughed dryly,what kind of joke is this."You really are joking ba?"
"Rekia is my girlfriend."He got up and placed his arms around her.
"Oh someone has gone dumb here,is that true Rekia?"
Rekia nodded her head and looked away.This was a disaster.
"How could you?Rekia? You of all people,what did I do to deserve this,why must it be my brother?"Toun lamented staring at my friend.
"Oh sister,you're embarrassing her,please stop it." Adekunle pleaded.
"You can't understand,she is even older than you."
"Age is a number,I aint complaining."
"I am...complaining,you can't have anything to do with her,I won't let you,I won't watch you destroy your life,with this thing."
"You need to understand that I love her and that's all that matters to me."
"Says who?"
"Says me sis,I am old enough to do what I like and love who I choose." Adekunle replied his sister.
"Over my dead body."
"Who gave you the right to fawn over me?What makes you think that I am going to listen to your talks?"
"I am your sister."
"Where were you when I,my sister and our mother needed you? Where was your sisterly advice.Please Toun stay out of this." Adekunle warned. He held Rekia by her hands and led her outside.
"Calm down." He pulled her into his arms.she was sobbing hard now.
"Everything is going to be fine.Do you know why my sister does want us to be together?" he asked.
She hesitated for an instant,"No...no...I have no idea." She lied,this was the time to tell him,but she couldn't muster enough courage,she didn't have the heart.Oh God!Why me.
"Good...we'll sort this out,I promise you we will." He placed a kiss on her forehead."Stop crying."He wiped her face."I'll give you a call when I get home."
He got into his car,and she opened the gate for him to drive out.She closed the gate,and took frightful steps back into the house,where her doom awaits her.

Well,we live in a world where you're judged by the structure of your building,car models,and your net value.

The orange knee length gown made her look matured,it enhanced her womanly curves and put her hot leg on display,she noticed that she had shed some weight,not from using the gym but from brooding and unhappiness.
She fastened the watch to her wrist,it was gucci.Her neck was laced with a tiny gold necklace,it was pure gold,and a pair of pearl adorned her ears.she sat on the chair by the dressing table and styled her weave,before spraying it.she enhanced her beauty with make up products and she looked like one of those dolled up models on the front pages of fashion magazines.
Exactly what her husband wanted,a woman for the camera,an item for social and media display.She forced a smile,well she wasn't looking bad.she used her cologne,and picked her purse.
The door opened and Jacob came in,
"Wow" he exclaimed.
Jane merely sat on the bed,resting her back on the pillow.
"You look beautiful,Jane please let me kiss me." He came towards her.
"No,you're going to ruin my make up." She insisted.she noticed his new haircut-dope was the word.He looked dapper in his tuxedo.
"Let's be on our way."Jacob led the way opening the door for her with a mock smile plastered across his face.
Five hours later when the programme came to an end,they left and drove home.Jane had fulfilled her part of the bargain,she had a beautiful and innocent smile plastered across her face all day, never lacking in compliment,she picked at her food but drank more wine more to Jacob's irritation.
Jacob drove carefully and thanked her for coming with him despite his unruly behaviour over the week,he apologised for threatening her and she caught a glimpse of his face in the mirror,he sounded truly sorry.But she knew him,one minute he was sorry and the next he was boiling with mad rage.
Jane kept mute as he ranted,"We should go out more often you know,when was the last time we had a together moment alone,I mean just the two of us." He smiled.
"We could work something out,you know get the chance to talk,something romantic or we could even plan our second honey moon,you get to choose the city."He said.
Jane focused on the road,"What do you think?"
"Nothing."
"Please stop being petulant." He chided her."I know I have not been on my best behaviour,but I am willing to work on it.
Jane looked through the side window,her mind miles away.
"What do you think?" He asked,as they drove away from the express way.
He glanced at her,she didn't seem pertubed at all and that single fact annoyed him.Finding a space he parked.Jane wondered why they were parking.It was getting dark already.Jacob got down and came to her side of the car,yanking the door open."Get down." A strange coldness in his voice.
"Don't make me repeat myself." He said.Jane picked her purse and got down.Jacob got in and drove away.

Watching Jacob's car disappear along with the other cars,a tear dropped down her face,but she quickly wiped it away.she wouldn't cry in the open.Her purse held her phone,her credit card,thirty thousand naira in cash and a pepper spray she had brought along on second,third and fourth thought.

Standing aloof the road would not help,she moved towards the road,and began to wave down cars but most of them did not stop.Her watch read quarter to eight.It was quite dark by now.she had got tired of waving,she just stood by the road watching the cars zooming away.
She thought of whom to call,Jaiye,Cynthia or her sisters,her manager at the store,she would have to explain what she was doing in the middle of the road at that time of the night,and why she didn't call her husband.she pushed aside that thought.

She was deep in thought,when she saw a black jeep slowing down to her sides,there was only one person in the car,a man.As the car stopped at a few distance from her.she moved back,clutching the pepper spray ready for action.The man parked and got down,he was quite tall wearing a black polo over darker jeans,a dark shade and a black face cap.

Jane was scared,her heart raced faster and she prayed in her mind for God's protection.She watched the man,his hands in his pocket as he took long strides towards her-she thought of her children,Adam and Eve,her mother and her sisters and finally her husband who put her in this condition.
At least if she was going to die,she would die fighting,she held the pepper stray with all the strength her fingers could muster........

"Me too." Toun agreed with them."After our formal introduction,we'll start talking about colours and shoes."
"Very good,how about next weekend for your wedding gown hunting." Rekia suggested.
"Hmmm,that's okay with me,let me go through the list you made,because Ade and I will be visiting our wedding planner tomorrow."
"You guys are making me green with envy with all this wedding talks jare."Rekia said playfully but in a serious tone.

"Don't worry baby."Toun tickled her,"A very handsome man will sweep you off your feet very soon."
As if I haven't met him already,he is your brother my dear,I can't wait to share you the good news,Rekia thought to herself.
"He's going to be a nice,good looking tall man,older then you of course,and definitely with a handsome pocket,because of your love for expensive things." Hannah joined in.Rekia caught the underlying message in her words.
"You still haven't told us the name of the man you're attracted to."Toun said to Rekia.
"He is someone you know." She blushed and watched her friends reaction.
"Hey...really? I can't wait,but just tell us his name." Toun insisted.
"Don't be in a hurry." Rekia laughed.
There was a knock on the door,Toun got the door and an handsome looking Kelvin strolled in.She embraced him and smiled.
"Hello ladies." He called to the girls,Hannah and Rekia took turns in embracing him and congratulating him too."We're happy for you guys."Rekia beamed wih smiles.
"Thanks dear." Kelvin laughed.
"Please excuse us,we have some unfinished business to attend to." Hannah said,and Rekia followed her out of the sitting room picking the three catalogues.
They walked to Hannah's room,and sat on the bed,"Ade said the invitation cards are ready,I'll bring some home tomorrow,let me show you a copy." She picked her Ipad and scrolled through it. "Here it is."
Rekia grabbed the Ipad,and enlarged the picture."This is lovely,I love the cover design." Her phone was ringing,she glanced at the screen and almost disappeared as she bolted out of the room.
Hannah hissed knowing fully well,who the caller was.It was some minutes later before she returned.
There was an awkward silence in the room,"Its him abi." It was more of a statement than a question.
Rekia was silent.

Rekia remained calm.

"Its enough,I have made up my mind about this."
"Oh Thank God."
"Yeah,thank God I just found my soul mate."
"Soul mate ko,heart rib ni.If you must know I am not and will never be in support of this new found foolishness." She hissed.
"Now I see who my friends really are,are you not getting married soon,so is Toun.How about me?you think I don't want to settle down with a man too." Rekia poured out her heart in pain.

"Yes I am sociable,but do you know what and how much I have missed,I don't have a normal childhood,not even a complete teenage fun.I am not getting younger,I want to live life to the fullest too,is that too much to ask for?" Rekia was close to tears.
"Look I am sorry,I didn't mean to sound like that."
"Well,that's how it sounded."
"I'm sorry,I only want what is best for you,but this choice that you have made is definitely wrong."She pulled her closer."Is he aware of your condition?"
Rekia shrugged.
"When do you intend to inform him?"
"Soon,its just a week,but I feel like I've known him forever,he's matured,caring and this man- he loves me to pieces,I can see it in his eye,I can hear it in his voice and when he kisses me I feel heavenly." She finished,almost out of breath.
"Hmmm"
"This is a dangerous ride."
"I am prepared for its consequences."
"What about the age differences?"
"Age is but a number."
"You're a muslim too."
"I am not a practising one,and I am prepared to change my religion for the man I love." Rekia's soothing voice filled the room.
"Wow....you love him that much?"
"Bae,its not about haven known each other for years,its about what we feel,what we share and how much love and happiness he brings into my life."
It was Hannah's turn to be silent.She feared that Rekia's condition would send Adekunle running,this new loving Rekia scared her.

Episode 107


Rays of light flickered in through the blinds,she carefully opened one eye then the other.Her eye lids were heavy at first,but got light afterwards.she rolled to the other side of the bed where the sun couldn't reach her.On realising it was her husband's side of the bed,she got up and pulled the curtains before sitting on the bed again.
She got up and moved towards the dressing table,settled in the chair and gazed at the mirror,she looked a bit pale but far better than five days ago.she touched her sides,they were better too.she yawned noisily covering her mouth.From the mirror she saw a note by the bed side,that must be from her husband.she got up,picked it and glanced through.It was a poem,she tore it immediately,gone were those days she would have accepted his nonsense apology and cried over some choice words called poem.
She didn't intend going to the store today,she derobed and moved into the bathroom,she fixed herself a warm bath,soaked her weary skin,and let her mind wander.She was trying to find the missing puzzles of her life,her family and particularly her husband,if she could still call him that.

With a towel firmly tied over her breast,she creamed her body and wore a white t-shirt over black boxer shorts.She asked Nnamdi to set the table,she sat down with a novel,she read more than eat,because even after thirty minutes,she had succeeded in eating only two slices of yam and played around with the fried eggs,sipping her tea cautiously,she added extra milk and she loved its taste.
She was well engrossed in Nora Roberts Lawless,when the doorbell sounded,Nnamdi got the door,she half glanced up to see her husband,she kept her head low and read on.
"Good morning dear." Jacob greeted her softly,coming towards her.
His greeting was met with silence,but he was unmoved.
"You are still not going to forgive me right?"
"What difference does it make."
"A lot."He scratched his head.
"Look,I never intended for what happened,and I am truly sorry,and I promise ...."
"And you promise what?" Jane cut him off."Not to hit me again,not to use your belt on me again or not to slap my face at the slightest provocation,which?" Jane questioned,her voice shaked,as she shivered slightly.
Jacob was quiet,he looked truly sorry with his face slightly drawn."I'm sorry."
"That's not going to change how I feel about you,nor the pain all over my body." She hissed.
"Oyin please,when a man like me says please,it means only one thing."
"Yes,when a man like you says please,it means he is going to do it again."She said fighting back the tears at her throat.
"Why did you go to see my mum?"
"Its non of your freaking business." She scoffed.
"It becomes my business when you begin to speak ill of this family to outsiders."
"Your mum is an outsider?"
"She is a part of my extended family."
"Jacob!"
"Sweetheart."
"I've heard enough." She got up,and closed the novel.
"Stop fighting me Jane,what are we going to tell the children?"
"I'll tell them the truth,their dad hits mum,beats her with a belt and slapped her across the face." Jane spat at him.
"What's going to appease you?"
"Your grilled head on a plate,and a glass of your blood." She hissed.
Jacob laughed out aloud,his laughter echoed in the house."I know what you want,I know what can change your mind." He said with a slow seductive grin across his well groomed face.
Jane could feel it,in her stomach,that stupid tingling sensation all over her body,she fought for control.
He advanced towards her slowly and Jane took a step backward,knowing fully well that she would lose every ounce of control once he touched her.
"Don't come near me." She screamed at him.
Jacob grinned,"Keep your voice down."He caught her by the arm and forced himself into her embrace.
"Jane I love you." He whispered as his hands ravaged her body.His lips groping for hers,she was fighting a lost battle and she knew it.His mouth claimed hers,steadying her against the couch,his lips were soft,full,hot,tantalizing and doing some stupid things to her.she stopped struggling and let him have her body,as he guided her to the couch,his mouth on the nape of her neck,all over her face,his hands took possession of her waist playing down her hips.
She was lost in the wilderness of his touch,before something snapped sense into her head.With all the courage she could muster,she shoved him off.He staggered back at first,before holding the couch to steady his balance.
"Did I hurt you?" His tone hushed.
"Yes,you're always hurting me." She let out the torrents of water and ran up the stairs holding her side.
Jacob was enraged,how could she do that to him,he had apologised already,what else would appease her?he fought to contain the anger building up in his blood vessel.He shook his fist angrily.He rushed up the stairs and found her on the bed.
He reached for his wardrobe,and opened the drawers pulling out a shopping bag.he flung it at her."I thought the egg treatment would work,but you only frustrated my effort,you'll have it the other way then,we're commissioning the third Lagos branch office,Jaiye's is going to be there with Cynthia,you'll be there in that expensive dress-with me." He raged at her.
He walked out of the bedroom,and returned three seconds later."I am not asking you to be there,It's an order,we'll be there together."
"Wait." Jane got up and faced him as he made to go,picking the shopping bag,she flung it back at him.
"For your information,I am not coming,and you can't force me either."She glared at him.
Jacob forced a smile,"Oyindunmade,I dare you."
"I dare you not to come with me."

Jane sang as she fried the last batch of plantain,the rice was done.So she put off the gas.she was a little bit tired from being on her feet.
She moved to the dinning table and served her husband's meal,she was glad he was home this weekend.She made sure to stay out of his way since he returned home on friday.All that Funmi told her,was sealed away in her heart.This Sunday afternoon was cool and it had better remain like that.
The children came down and they all had Lunch,before Aishat took them to their friend's birthday party.Leaving just Nnamdi at home with them.
Jacob who had been unusually cool sat on the sofa with today's papers in his hands,his Ipad and phones on the table beside him.
"Janet" he called,leafing through the contents of the paper.
"Yes dear."
"I need juice,mixed fruits."
"Alright,I'll get you Chivita."
"No,home made." Jacob insisted.
"That's fine."
Jane's heart was agog with happiness,her chance had finally come.she beamed as she headed to the kitchen.
Jacob picked his phone,it was his mum on the line,they spoke for about five minutes before dropping the call.His mother was dropping some subtle hints,but he didn't get what she was on about.He was almost dozing off when Jane appeared with a tray,a jug and drinking glass.she poured him a glass and left.
Jacob sat up and drank,he dropped the glass and starred at his drink,the scent was farmiliar,he couldn't get it.Something else was in his drink.
"Jane"
"Yes dear."
"What's in my drink?" He glarred at her.
"Nothing,I just spiced it."
"With what?"
"You were the one who asked for mixed fruits,and that's what you have."
Jacob got up,"I'm going to ask you one last time,what did you spice my drink with?"
Jane caught the tone of his voice,and fear crept into her heart,she hoped she had not gotten herself in trouble.
"Okay,its just orange and apple,I can't poison you now." Jane said.
She felt something hot land on her cheeks,it was a dirty slap.She screamed out in pain,holding her cheeks.How could he?
"Jacob?"
"For the last time,answer me."
"Celery roots."She said,as sobs escaped from her lips.
"I knew it,I know what celery root is and what is used for,tell me who prescribed that to you?"
"No one."
"Jane have you been talking to someone about us?"
"No"
"Look,celery root is just a fruit,you can google it." She hissed and walked out on him,rushing up the stairs.
"Did you talk to anybody?"He rushed after her.
Jane kept quiet,and moved fast.
"Did you talk to my mum?"
Jane kept quiet.
"Did you?" He screamed,punching her in the face.
"You have her number,why don't you call her?." Jane pushed him away rubbing her bleeding lips as she rushed into the bedroom.
"What did my mum tell you?" Jacob asked angry.
Jane was scared for her life,as she saw him coming towards her.He removed his belt and folded it in two.
"What did she tell you?"
"I swear,she told me nothing." Jane sobbed,wiping her face with the back of her palms.
"Tell me the truth."He screamed at her as the first stroke of the belt landed on her side.
Jane screamed out in pain,as more strokes landed on her body.she couldn't run because he blocked her with his body and continue to whip her.
She was shouting and crying,but Jacob cared less.as she saw her chance,she ran out of the room,and he followed her.One single push,and she was tumbling down the stairs.
Nnamdi was the first person to get to her,he had been listening to their argument since.Jacob eyed him and rushed down the stairs,she was bruised and looked battered.
"What happened to your madam?" He asked.
Nnamdi looked from husband to wife,and from wife to husband again."She fell down the stairs."
"Good."
Jacob picked his shirt and car keys,without a backward glance,he left the house.

Adekunle horned for the third time,before someone opened the gate for him.He drove into the beautiful compound.He parked his car and got down.
"Adekunle." Rekia said walking up to him.
"Hi" he smiled,one of those smiles that lit up the world,and Rekia was blushing.
"Hello." He waved to get her attention,she has been staring for almost one minute.
Rekia smiled,"I'm sorry,please come in."She led the way."Make yourself comfortable."He said to him.
"Sorry,I've forgotten your name." Kunle said.
"Rekia."
"Oh yeah,unique and beautiful."
"Oh thanks."
"What can I offer you?" She asked,she felt like a teenager on her first date.The way this man was looking at her,she was feeling hot already.
"Anything is fine."
"I'll be back."
Adekunle watched as she walked out of the sitting room,her back side rolling in a nice way.Why was he even starring,she's her sister's friend.Oh no.
"Thanks." He accepted the glass of fruit juice from her.
Rekia sat opposite him,"I hope there is no problem?"
"No.....my sis asked me to meet her at home,she didn't say more than that."
"Okay,how's your mum."
"She's fine thanks."
"And your younger sister?"
"She's good."
There was an awkward silence afterwards.
"So how was work today?"
"Fine,just fine as usual,nothing out of the extra ordinary."
"That's good."
"You look ....beautiful."
Rekia smiled shyly,she wondered why her stomach curled nicely when he said that.
"I feel like I've known you forever." He said coming to seat by her.Rekia could feel some electrocution as his fingers brushed her cheeks.
"Huh..."
"I like you." He said quietly.
Adekunle knew it now,he was attracted to this damsel,if her reaction was anything to go by,it seemed mutual.
"I... ...." Rekia started,but couldn't finish her statement because his lips touched hers,it felt warm,sweet,tingling all at once.He was doing something to her,she concentrated on the kiss.
His hands was around her waist as she leaned on the sofa,the kiss was a shy one at first,but it got deeper.He broke away from her lips all of a sudden.
"I'm sorry." He stepped back from her.
"I'm not."
"You mean... ..."
"Look,fine you kissed me,but I also kissed you back,its mutual."She smiled beautifully.
"I can't stop starring at your lips."
"I don't mind."
He kissed her on the cheeks lightly,and brought it his phone."I'll like to know you better...please don't say no." He smiled.
Rekia punched in his digit,and her pin,and returned the phone.His hands lingered on hers.
"Can I kiss you again,please."
Rekia knew this was one request she couldn't deny.She closed her eye in sweet ectasy,this guy is a damn good kisser.she laughed.
"Why are you laughing?" He asked starring deep into her eyes.
"I think I am attracted to you."
"Same here."
"Okay,just sit please.,let me get you something to eat." Rekia scurried away holding her breath.
The door bell sounded and Hannah walked in,carrying a handbag.she saw Adekunle and they embraced briefly.
"Wow....look who we have here."
"Good to see you again." He smiled at her.
"Where's Toun?"
"She's on her way,she asked me to meet her here."
"Alright,I'll be back,let me change into something simple." Hannah left.
Adekunle wondered why all her sister's friend were this cute.He heard a car horn,and went out to get the gate.It was Toun,she got down and quickly embraced him."Oh please come in,I want you to be here,when I break this news." She held his hands as they walked inside.
"Rekky Rekky baby,Hanny darling,you girls should come out." She shouted at the top of her voice.
Both ladies rushed in,"What is it now?" Rekia asked.
"Kelvin proposed." She screamed holding up her fingers for everyone to see.They were screaming as they all rushed to embrace her.
"Congrats bae." Rekia laughed happily.
"Congrats babe." Hannah said,if she had not made up with her fiance over the weekend,God knows she would be in tears now."
"Oh sis,congrats." Adekunle smiled happily.
Rekia as usual produced glass cups and wine,and they made a toast to Toun and Kelvin's future together.They had a sumptuous dinner of efo riro with poundo yam.
"So tell us how it happened?"
"Well,he came to pick me after work,and he brought me to his house,he offered me a drink,and we got talking but when I sipped it,I screamed and almost choked on it,because of the ring in it." Toun explained as the others listen attentively.
"He went on his knees and asked me,and I said yes,he put the ring on my finger and kissed it."
"And what happened next?"
"Hmmm he kissed me and he.. ..and..." Toun stammered.
"And he? Don't worry we know the rest of the story."Hannah laughed.
"That's beautiful." Adekunle joined in.
"Intimate and Romantic is a better word."Rekia said.
All evening,Adekunle couldn't keep his eyes off Rekia,as he continually stole glances every now and then.He wished he was sitting by her.When he was set to leave,he made a sign by putting his hands to his ears that he was going to call her,but unfortunately,it was not only Rekia who saw his hands,Hannah did too.
Toun saw his brother off,and they bade him bye.
When Hannah was sure that they were out of earshot,she quizzed her friend.
"What was that signal for?Hannah asked.
"Mind your business."
"Be serious."
"He said he's going to give me a call."
"He has your number?"
"I gave him,and my pin too."
"Rekia!"
"What" she eyed her friend
"Toun is going to chop off your head."
"I love him." Hannah starred at Rekia's mouth,when she uttered that statement.
"Are you kidding me?"
"We kissed."
"What?"
"Kill yourself now."
"Rekia,stop playing with fire,he's your brother,have you forgotten?" Hannah pulled Rekia ears.
"Abeg comot your hand,and stop that brother nonsense,he is Adetoun's younger brother not ours." She hissed.
"I know we don't share the same blood,but there's going to be trouble if Toun finds out."
"I guess so." Rekia said remorsely."Hannah I've got butterflies churning in my stomach when I stare at him,and when he kissed me,my world came to an halt."
"Wait,is this a short term madness or a long one?"
"I'm afraid its going to be a long term madness,if that's how you want it."
"Al-hamdulilahi......Rekia has gone crazy."
"Sincerely,I am attracted to him,what am I going to do now?"

Oh gosh,one name that irritated her the most was Jacob,the less she heard that name,the better for her.
"I am fine."
"Look at your arms,its bruised."
"I heal fast,I'll get better before you know it."
"Who informed you anyway?"

"He said you fell down the stairs."
"Hmm yes I fell down the stairs."
"I still think you need a doctor."
"Thanks,but no."
"So how did it happen?"
"Didn't he give you the details?"
"No,he only told me the light went off and you tripped and rolled down the stairs."
"My husband needs to join a publishing house very fast."
"You're not serious.". Cynthia laughed.
"How are the children"Jane changed the topic.
"They're fine o,they are not back from school yet." She said."I brought you a bowl of chicken peppersoup."
"Awwwh,thank you." Janet smiled,her black eye was still there,and her sides ached from the belt beating.she was sore all over,her bruised arms were not helping matters.
"Let me get you a plate." Cynthia lifted the bag with the soup and went into the kitchen.
The ladies chatted till evening before Cynthia took her leave.
Jane climbed the stairs,her head throbbing with a ache,she was weak and tired,she needed to take her medication.
"Madam there is someone here to see you." Nnamdi called to her.
"I just saw her off now,did she forget something?"
"Its not Aunty Cynthia,Na Uncle Jaiye o."
"Jaiye?Tell him I am in bed already."
"Jane I am here." He said staring up the stairs at her.
Jane climbed down carefully,"How are you Jaiye?"
"I should ask you that."
"I'm fine."
"Jacob said you fell."
"Yes,I fell."
"You fell and got a black eye?that looks more like a heavy slap or a punch."
"Please stop that,what are you insinuating?"
"Did he hit you?"
"God forbid! My husband will never do such,he is my husband for chrissake,he can't."
Jaiye sighed in relief."Thank God,so how do you feel now?"
"Better than two days ago."She forced a smile. Jaiye got up and embraced her,"If you need to talk to someone,I am always here for you." They remained silent in each others arms.
The door opened and Jacob came in,"Bravo" he clapped.
The two adults were startled,disentangling,Jacob playfully shoved Jaiye away."Please take your hands off my wife." He smiled at her.He helped her to a seat.
"I was just on my way,but don't you think she should see a doctor?"
"Same thing I told my pretty naughty wife,but she declined." He kissed her on the forehead.Jane almost fainted.
"Look,I am fine."
"If you insist then,let me be on my way." Jaiye got up.
"I'll see you off." Jacob offered.
"No,stay with her,she might need something."
"Alright then."
Jaiye patted her on the back,"Get well soon." And he left.
Just as the door closed,Jane quickly removed his arms around her,"Please take this filthy thing off me." She got up swiftly.
Jacob maintained his cool.
"You amaze me Jacob Smith,you're a drama king,you should stage your own play very soon." Janet hissed at him.
"But I have apologised."
"Your apology is in the trash bin."
"I'm sorry Oyin."
"Sorry my foot." She hissed loudly,as she wobbled up with stairs,her heart filled with bitterness for the man she loved.

The children were set to go to school,after their quick breakfast.Jane adjusted Adam's jacket for him,and kissed them goodbye as Aishat took them away.
"Please tell Ochuko to be careful while driving my children." She said.
"I will ma." Aishat curtsied.
Jane cleared the table and arranged her husbands breakfast of moi-moi and creamy custard.He was down just in time.
"Good morning dear." She greeted him.
"Good morning,how was your night.?"
"It was fine." She answered,pulling a chair for him to seat.She noticed the small travelling bag by him.
"Where are you taking the bag to? She joined him at the table.
"Abuja."
"Abuja?"
"When have you been planning this?"
"I forgot that I needed to seek your permission before leaving the house." Jacob said eating from the plate of moimoi.
Jane took a sharp breath,"Oh please,don't be sarcastic,and you know that's not what I meant."
"My dear,it's too early for all this,I need to get to the office,our flight takes off in three hours time." He said.
"Our?"
"Yes."
"Who is the 'our'?"
"My personal secretary,at least she's not going to nag off my ears."
"I thought you had a secretary,and not a personal secretary."
"You thought wrong babe."
"And it's a she!"

Jane was more confused than ever.she got up and began to pace around.
"Look dear,the last thing I want for you is a HBP,so please relax,she's not going to eat me on the trip,if that's your fear." He said getting up,he wiped his mouth with a clean white napkin.
"My fear is you eating her on that trip." Jane hissed.
"That's a much better idea." He laughed."I'll be back on friday."

Jacob shook her by the shoulders,"You're lucky,I have to be somewhere,I would have showed you how much of a fool I was." He pushed her away,hurried down the stairs,picked his bag and suit case and disappeared out of the house.
Jane's body racked with sobs,as she sat on the stairs,she knew she shouldn't have called him a fool.What sensible woman calls her husband a fool to his face?But he pissed her,how could he? She rubbed her shoulders again,they were aching.
She had to act fast,she needed to talk to someone and she had to do it fast,an image formed in her head,and then a face and she smiled.

"You can't say you're fine,look at your swollen face,you've been crying." Toun said,as she drank water from a glass."And you've barely touched your dinner."
Hannah sniffed,"I'm okay,I just have a slight headache." She forced a smile.
Rekia scoffed at the two of them,"Mummy Toun,your daughter says she's fine,ehen let her be now,or do you intend to force words out of her mouth ni?." She stood up from her chair and went to sit on the couch to have a better look.
"Please don't talk like that Rekia,this Hannah that I am looking at is worried sick about something,ever since she came back from Ade's place,she has been acting strange and all."Toun said.
"Haba,she is not a baby,if something is wrong with her,she should share with us,and if not,you two should come and see this nice pre wedding shots I downloaded from the internet this afternoon,they're so lovely and I'm sure Hannah and Ade will love it." She chuckled.
Hannah burst into a loud laughter,she drank some water and almost choked on it.It was Toun and Rekia's turn to be bewildered.
"The wedding has been cancelled."
Toun eyes popped wide out of its socket,and Rekia got up too.
"Why? What happened?"
"Its official." Hannah laughed and left for her room.The other girls followed her,but she was quick to shut the door in their face.
"Hannah this is officially not funny." Toun said banging the door.
"Yes,its not funny at all,its October not April fools day."Rekia added.
"I know,but its over." She said sobbing,slowly at first,then it became louder.
"At least open the door and talk to us."
"Please."
"You guys should just leave before I do something stupid." Hannah flung open her wardrobe with a loud thud and began to fling her cloths everywhere,she scattered her dressing table and sounds of breaking glasses could be heard.
"Oh no,please don't do this to yourself,we love you Hannah." Toun pleaded amidst sobs.
"Hannah please." Rekia joined in.
"You people should just leave me alone,let me be,pleasee."
"No way,am not leaving you alone,Rekia please get my phone,I need to call Jane and mum." Toun said.
"No....no....no.....don't....call....no......" Hannah sobbed.
Finally,there was a click,and the door opened,it was just like a hurricane passed through her room.Everywhere was a mess within four minutes,she had even broken her bedside lamp.Toun embraced her while Rekia held her shoulders and patted her hair.
"Just remember that we will always love you." Toun cried silently.
"I love you girls too." She cried.
"Yes we love you." Rekia said.
"I broke up with him,I am going to return his ring,I don't want to get married anymore." She cried harder and then she explained all that happened to her friends.
"Why did you keep all these from us?" Toun asked.
"Abeg shut up." Rekia said." The only thing I was able to pick is that you don't have HIV anymore."
"Well,I'm not too sure,he said his doctor told him that."
"Hmmm this is serious o."
"But you went for the confirmation test now,and it was positive."
"Yes." Hannah answered,"I have the result here." She pulled open the drawers by the bed and picked out the envelope with the hospital address on it.
Rekia snatched it from her and opened it.she glanced downwards and saw the result."You're negative." Rekia screamed before throwing it at Toun.
Rekia flung her arms around Hannah,"Oh babe,you no get HIV o."She was crying now.she wondered when she became this emotional.
"I don't understand this comment." Toun said staring at the result.
Rekia snatched it again,and analysed it to them,the result even referred to the first test which said she was positive,and that the confirmation test stated that she was negative and she was to come back after another three months again for check up.
Hannah started laughing again,this was too much for her.Tears strolled her cheeks and her eye were red.
Toun and Rekia were crying too.
"I didn't read all that part." Hannah told them."After the counselling for those who came for the confirmation test,we were urged to pray and protect ourself for those who would be negative and that those who are positive should come for their ARVs and regular check up."
"Immediately our results were given to us,and I saw positive,I rushed out blindly and and....." Hannah was crying again.
The girls cried together and embraced each other.
"About your wedding,you have to make up with Ade,I'll call him and talk to him." Toun promised.
"Good,but right now we need to celebrate." Rekia excused herself and returned with two bottles of wine and three glass cups.
Rekia was surprised to see Toun opening the bottle with her teeth,she quickly hurried to the kitchen."Look we have some leftover chicken." She served it in a plate.It was cold but they ate it happily.Rekia tuned the system to its highest volume as they danced to hip hop music.
She had never seen Hannah and Toun in this way.
It was quarter past one when Hannah fell on her knees and started thanking God,they all joined her and cried together.Too much crying in one night.
"Its time for you girls to retire." Rekia said laughing at them."You know I answer to no one o,and you people have work tomorrow."
"I'll call in sick." Hannah said
"You look sick indeed." Rekia laughed again.
"I'll call in sick too." Toun laughed and the girls burst into laughter.
It was a long night indeed.
They put off the music,and each of them showered.Hannah took longer than usual,Rekia had to go and peep at her,she saw her kneeling in the bathtub and crying.Toun pulled her back.
"Leave her alone,she needs some time alone." She said.
Hannah got into her room,to find it a little better,her friends had cleaned the broken glasses.she sat on the bed still sobbing.
"I am sleeping in your bed tonight." Rekia came in with her pillow.
"Me too." Toun joined them.
"Thank you so much,I love you girls." Hannah kissed each on her cheek.
"We love you too." They laughed.
The girls settled on the bed,and covered themselves.They sang together holding hands.Toun and Rekia soon fell asleep.Hannah was dozing off already,when her phone rang.She didn't have to check the screen,she had a special ring tone for Ade.
The phone rang continuosly for a while,but she refused to pick the call.A text message came in.She clicked it open and began to read.

"Come here children,I have missed you so much." Funmi hugged Adam and Eve.The children were excited as their Grandma kissed their forehead."Hey,you look bigger than the last time I saw you." She laughed leading them inside.
Jane held her hand bag and childrens box.she dropped them and settled on a sofa making herself comfortable.
"How was the drive down here?I hope my driver was not rough?" Funmi asked.Since Jane informed her that she was coming over with the kids,she had sent her personal driver to pick them.
"No ma"
"Just relax,I personally prepared you fish peppersoup,I also made grilled fish,fruit salad and jollof rice with chicken for my children."
"Ha mummy,you want me to grow fat abi."
"You need to put on some flesh too."
"Ada." Funmi called.
"Yes ma." A young woman in twenties came in.
"Take the children to the room you prepared,let them shower and change their clothes,then bring them back here."Funmi said,the children followed Ada.
"Hope my son is taking good care of you.?"Funmi laughed.
"Yes o,he's trying."
"He told me he was travelling to Abuja and will be back on Friday."
"Yes,that's true."
"That's good,how are the kids doing in school."
"They're doing fine,you know they have my brain now."
"That's not true,my children have always proved to be brilliant in their academics,there shouldn't be an exception to this ones."She laughed again."I and your mother were at Eko hotel last weekend,an old classmate of ours celebrated her birthday along her wedding anniversary."
"Wow,I didn't know."
"Now you know."Funmi looked around,there was no one in sight.
"You told me some things over the phone,such issues should be discussed face to face,that's why I asked you to come over."
"Thank you ma."
"You'll go in now,shower and then we'll all have lunch,I'll ask Ada to take the children out,we have an amusement park around,because I will want your full attention and most importantly,its time to unravel some things your husband has kept away from knowledge,you deserve to know." Funmi finished.
"Oh thank you ma." She got on her knees.
"Please get up,I have told you that you are my daughter,and clean your eyes,I don't ever want to see you crying again." Funmi embraced her daughter-in-law and patted her back.

"I received your message" Hannah said rubbing her hands together nervously, as she spoke with her husband-to-be in his sitting room.He looked calm and collected.he looked like a man who had everything he wanted at his grasps.

She had taken the extra effort to dress simple but gorgeously,she didn't want to come strong on him like a desperate woman.She could feel the tension in her very voice,when was the last time they sat together to have a cordial chat like this.She had to make good use of this opportunity.

"I sent for you,since my family and yours' have concluded on a date for the wedding,I need you to make some decisions quickly."He said,picking up his glass of juice,he took a sip.
Hannah sighed quietly,"I need you to see my doctor,to know if there are other drugs you need to take to alleviate your condition." She listened as he spoke like she was an object before him.
"That's fine by me." Glad that he was softening gradually.
"I'll update you before we go to see your wedding planner." Ade got up and picked his phones,"That'll be all for now."
"Just like that? Is this all I mean to you? An object? " She asked,her eyes betraying the tears in them.
"Oh stop that blackmail,it's not going to work,at least not anymore,we have a deal signed on paper already." Ade spoke hurriedly.
"You know,I am beginning to wonder if you had an iota of love for me in the first place,how could you discard what we shared so easily,how?"
"The moment you lied to me,you betrayed my love for you,my feelings and everything we hold dear to each other." He screamed back at her.She saw the pain that flashed quickly in his eyes before he looked away.

"And I am sorry for everything,I should have told you from the beginning,but haven't I apologised enough?what else do you want me to do?"

Ade ignored her,picked his car keys and walked out of the door,he stopped all of a sudden,"There's one thing you can do to make me happy." He smiled coyly."When you're done shedding those crocodile tears,lock up my house,you know what to do with the keys."
Hannah wept as he walked away,she listened as he drove out.She wished there was someone she could confide in,at least to lighten the burden she bore alone.

"Yesterday was the second year remembrance of Lucy's departure to glory ."Ajoke blurted over the phone as she spoke with Janet.
Janet held her breath for 5seconds,clutched the phone tighter,,how could she have forgotten such an important date,that's life for you.The man who killed her was out there enjoying his life after sending his wife to an early death."Oh my,I have totally forgotten about it,may her soul rest in peace."The two women observed a minute silence before continuing their conversation.
"When last did you see her son?" Ajoke asked.
Jane sighed,"Its been over eighteen months now.I still can't believe Lucy suffered so much and died for love,I wish she had let her family deal with that thing she called husband or rather baby papa."
"Just let it go jare,oya gist me about Cynthia's party."
"I wish you were there my dear ,it was such a beautiful celebration.It was in the papers too,Her parents still looked like teenagers in love,what they share must be cordial and heavenly,my husband and the kids were there too." She explained with excitement in her voice.
"You know I'm heavy already,just 6weeks to go,and I'm free again o,I just want this baby before christmas,no carryover abeg." She laughed heartily over the phone."I don't want to go through christmas bruhaha with a portruding tommy." She chuckled.
"I can't wait o,but you know I envy you sha,my husband doesn't want another baby and I don't want trouble again." She lamented,it was obvious,she loved and wanted more children."So how is your husband doing?"
"He's fine o,he even asked of you while going through some of my old pictures last weekend."
"My regards to him.and thank him for taking care of you for us o." Jane laughed.
"He should thank me instead,I cook,clean and take care of him and the children.You know something,I love my husband,he is just the perfect man for me,this man spoils me to pieces.oh he is the next best thing since chicken pizza.His mother is my only problem for now,did I tell you she now has her own temprary kitchen?That's where she cooks her meal each time she comes visiting. That woman! If not for my husband I would have beaten the hell out of her the day she poured a satchet of salt in my freshly made soup."
"Really? Your mother-in-law is something else.Oh I feel lucky to have Funmi o." Janet smiled to herself.
The door flung open and her children ran in jumping all over her.Her eye travelled to the wall clock,it was some minutes past three in the afternoon.She rounded up her converstion with Ajoke but not without the children saying "hi" to her. Eeeh! How time flies,she had decided to rest at home because of the weekend stress at the store and sales were not usually bright on Mondays,she had been on the phone since midday,almost three hours chatting with Ajoke.
They discussed virtually everything under the sun,from Hannah's forthcoming wedding,to wedding cakes,parties,children and undies.
"Mummy I am hungry." Adam sang in her ears,while removing his shoe and socks.
"That'll be after you finish,your take home work from school." Jane said,helping him with his jacket and shirt.She knew once she fed him now,he wouldn't do his work again.
"No ooo....um...um...I want to eat now."He insisted.
Aishat helped Eve UnCloth and assisted with her home work,while Adam refused to do his work.
Jane wondered where the boy got his stubborness from,she asked him nicely to do his work,but he refused,she enticed him with ice cream,and he declined.
Eve had a shower and changed into house wears as she jumped on her favorite chair.Aishat served her boiled yam with fried egg.she was about to say her prayers when water splashed all over her,she opened her eyes and screamed thereby alerting her mother,Nnamdi and Aishat.
Eve began to cry,standing mischieviously by the table was Adam with a empty bowl in his hands,after emptying water into her sister's meal.

"Eve what did you do before your brother poured water in your meal." Janet asked surprised at her son's attitude.
"Nothing" she cried.
"Okay,Adam what did your sister do to you?"
"Nothing." He answered quietly.
"So why did you pour water in her meal?"
"I am hungry too,and she." He pointed at Aishat."She didn't give me food."
"That was bad of you,I told you to finish your home work but you refused,and until you do what I asked of you,there's no food for you.Now tell your sister sorry." Jane said.
"No mum." He quickly folded his hands across his chest.
"Adam be a good boy for mummy,and tell Eve that you're sorry."
"Hmmm hmmmm." He insisted,walking away to his room.
"Nnamdi,go and bring him to me." Jane was angry.
Nnamdi put him down,"Now get me the cane." He returned with a local cane popularly called 'Pankere'. "I'll give you one last chance to apologise to your sister before I beat you."
The boy was adamant,Jane raised the cane to wipe his buttocks,"Please mummy,don't flog him.he's going to cry,look mummy I am not angry,please mummy."Eve pleaded close to tears.
"Its okay dear,I will beat him for three reasons,for refusing to do his work,for pouring water and for refusing to apologise,those are bad habits that shouldn't be encouraged." Jane explained.She flogged him five light strokes of the cane on his buttocks and the boy cried,held his buttocks and ran to his room.
Aishat cleaned up the table that was messed up,while Nnamdi served Eve another plate of food.
Jacob arrived about three hours later,he looked stressed up and tired."Welcome home dear" Jane greeted him taking his brief case as they climbed up the stairs.
"Bad day?" She asked when they got into the room. "Yes." He sighed,he let her help with the tie,his shirt,shoes and belt.He was indeed stressed out.
"Want to talk about it?" She asked carefully.
"After I shower."
Jane waited for him to come out,he had a white towel around his lean waist downwards,he smelled fresh and his look had improved a bit.he fell on the bed.
"What do you want for dinner,there's boiled yam and egg,boiled rice,we have fish and chicken stew and there's still some of those fresh snails too." Jane listed out.
"I'll have boiled rice with fish stew and snails too." He smiled for the first time since he came home.
Jane instructed Aishat to set the table,"So what's gotten you all shook like this.?"
"We lost a fine contract."
"Sorry about that."
"It was Jaiye."
Jane flinched and sat up,"what about him?"
"I have always told him,his penis would get us in trouble someday." He sighed,he rubbed his stomach as he spoke."The man who was to award the contract told us we deserved the contract but his daughter who was the head of A&R stalled it saying she had unfinished business with Jaiye.You can imagine,something personal now disturbing business.One thing led to another and before you know it,I was walking out empty handed.I left him there to clean up his mess." Jacob sighed heavily.
"I'm so sorry about that." Jane held his hand and spoke softly."How much was it?"
"$2m"
"That's some money!" She exclaimed.
"Yeah....look I'm famished." Jacob changed into shorts and polo before going down to eat.Jane sat with him and chatted with him gisting him about her day.
"Where are the kids?"
"In their room."
"Oh I forgot,Jackie dropped by my office and brought some stuff for them,ask Aishat to bring them to see it." Jacob said between mouthfuls.
"Nnamdi" Jacob called.
"Sir"
"Check the booth of my car and bring the basket there." Nnamdi picked the car key and left.
"I'll remember to give her a call tomorrow,that's so thoughtful of her." Jane smiled as she went through the contents.
Aishat came in with Eve,"Where's Adam?" Jacob asked. As Eve climbed on his laps and embraced him,he kissed her cheeks and her forehead.
"He says he is not coming." Aishat answered.
"Oh Eve,look at the nice things your big aunt got for you." Jane said as Eve's eyes popped,she picked a brightly coloured doll and a pack of chocolates.
"What is wrong with your son,please go and check him,he might be running temperature." Jacob said drinking some water.
"Hmmm Doctor Jacob Smith." She laughed,and then explained all that happened to him.
"Did you flog him?" He asked upset.
"Yes I did,he's beginning to grow stubborn you know,just like his father." She joked.
"Look children shouldn't be flogged and especially not mine." He continued.
Jane was perplexed."Didn't you hear all that I said,he refused to do his homework,and then poured water in his sister's food,he also refused to apologise to Eve,that's bad."
"I don't support his behaviour,but you shouldn't have used a cane on him." Jacob insisted.
"So how was I supposed to correct him?" She asked,her tone two pitch higher.
"I don't know." He said getting up from the table.
Jane saw Eve back to her room,and she picked two pack of chocolates and juice and asked Aishat to take one and give the other one to Nnamdi.and to also keep the baskets away,she'll go through it properly in the morning.
She asked Nnamdi to lock the doors and bade them goodnight.she had her bath and changed into her robe.
"Jacob I am sorry for speaking to you that way." She apologised.
"Everything I do is for you and the kids,please don't be offended,but I also want you to reason with me, don't forget when you spare the rod you spoil the child." She explained gently.
"You shouldn't have flogged him all the same,I insist."
"Fine,what should I have done?"
"I don't know."
"You should know dear."
"I don't."
"Maybe you shouldn't question the way I handle them then."
"I will not have you beating either of them I repeat."
"Good,then get me a manual on how to treat them." Jane said,putting off the bedside lamp,she tucked herself in.It was a good night.
She was just getting her sleep when her husband's phone began to ring.

Ade replayed his conversation over the phone with his doctor in his head,he comtemplated calling Hannah to question her.Something was wrong somewhere.His doctor had informed him this afternoon that the lady he sent over tested negative to the HIV screening test.And that was something he couldn't assimilate.
Who was lying? Hannah? Or the doctor.He was glad nonetheless that the doctor hadn't informed her yet.How was she going to take the news.Herbert had been his doctor since he got his license to operate five years ago,and he was damn brilliant and quite successful in his work.

There sure had to be a mix up somewhere,he picked his phone and dialled her number off hand,she picked on first ring,and asked her nicely to meet him at home in an hours time.

Hannah was very troubled within her,she hoped her issue was not yet complicated and to think that she stopped her meds 4weeks ago.she prayed quietly in the cab as she alighted in front of his house.she walked in and the gateman told her,his boss was waiting for her.
She knocked before opening the door,he answered the door,and ushered her in nicely.Well,she was surprised.he even offered her a glass of wine.They sat in the sitting room.
He asked her about her day,and how she was doing at work, "I know something is up,will you please tell me and stop beating around the bush." She asked boldy.
"Okay,what else did you lie to me about?"
"Excuse me,What do you mean? I am not a liar,it was just foolishness on my part to have withheld that part of my life from you,apart from dagger who made me a woman,I haven't been with another man.And don't even ask me to swear because I won't." She amazed herself at her bravado."I am an honest person."

Being a fair skinned lady,her cheeks flushed red,as she tried to think of what he was up to.

Ade smiled,"The doctor called me." He said slowly watching for her keen response.

She was quiet, "And?"

"He tested you for HIV and the result was negative."He sighed,watching her countenance change.

"What are you talking about?"

"You're negative,you don't have HIV."

It was Hannah's turn to laugh,it was high pitched and hysterical,"Is that part of your plan too?"

"Look,I'm serious,I was hoping you would be able to explain better."

"That's a lie." The laughter escaped from her lips before she could stop it."I am positive,I went for a confirmation test and I have the result with me at home."
"Can I see it please?"
"Its not here with me."She got up from her seat."If you're trying to ridicule me,you're doing a good job of it already.If you're no longer interested in this sham of a marriage,be man enough and tell me to my face.The world is not going to come to an end over us.And stop being childish.

"I am not going to deny the fact that I love you still,so please yourself."

She picked her glass of wine,finished her drink and spat it in his fcae before rushing out.

I spent 5 gud sleepless nyt reading through this piece, n I must say that Flakky has thought me a whole lot of things just by reading through her novel, n I will forever owe the knowledge I have gathered so far from this book to her, u have helped define my life n I really o appreciate n will like to get to know this amazing writer

I think Flakkyy is busy but am peeping at her scripts....Jacob arrange for Jaiye to sleep with his wife and impregnate her(without Oyin awareness) and Jaiye comes back behind Jacob to woo Oyin which the latter refused n didn't know how to tell her husband cos of d friendship BTW dem and his bad temper. Children are affected by thr environment by 70percent dats y Adam was abit like Jacob n Jacob is seeing some traits of Jaiye in Eve dats why he doesn't like her much like Adam....lhahahhahahaha all in my head just joking pls....
