Senator Shehu Sani, during the trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, took out time to lecture them on prison life.

According to Daily Trust, Sani spent four years in different prisons across the country, during the regime of Gen. Sani Abacha.

In a recent chat with TVC, Emeka Ike discussed various issues ranging from Ibinabo Fiberesima’s recent conviction and Segun Arinze’s education status.

Thirty five-year-old Oboko, who has now been dismissed from the force, was recently arrested in Port Harcourt, during a mop-up of criminal elements responsible for incessant robberies and car jacking in the state by the Inspector-General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team.
According to him, the turning point for him was when he encountered two members of a robbery and kidnapping gang, who were in the process of selling the cars they got from one of their victims.

He said in his statement, “In 2015, I met Johnpaul Amandi, one of our informants when he took two vehicles he stole from one of his kidnapping victims to one Victor Nwogu to sell. I met them while they were negotiating the price and I told them I would join their operation.

“After I became a member, I always found a way to get the members of the gang released whenever they were arrested by the police. I am even the resident Pastor of Battle Axe Assembly Church at Chuba Allo in Port Harcourt. I know this business is evil and shouldn’t have joined but I could not resist the temptation.”

Oboko, who chronicled his crime spree with the gang, admitted that he led three other members of the gang to snatch a Toyota Camry at D-line area of Port Harcourt few months ago, which his gang sold for N200,000. Out of the proceeds, he said he got N70,000.

The suspect said on their second operation, three of them stole three Toyota Camry cars from the D-line motor park in Port Harcourt in a single day.

He said, “Victor Nwogu in Owerri is the one that helped sell off the vehicles. He gave us N360, 000 after selling the cars and I got N150, 000 as my share. I remember that we also snatched a Toyota Corolla from Elelanwo area of Port Harcourt.

“I pointed a gun at the driver and he ran out of his vehicle. We sold that one for N250,000 out of which I got a share of N80,000. There was a Toyota Spider we also snatched at gunpoint around GRA in Port Harcourt. We hid it somewhere at Borokiri Sand Field. But before we arrived there in the morning, the car had been removed.”

Through the confessions of other members of the gang, Saturday PUNCH learnt that Oboko was also the armourer of his gang. Apart from that, he allegedly used his police identity to give the members of the gang safe passage anytime they stole or snatched a vehicle.

A police source disclosed that in one of the robbery cases that Oboko investigated as a policeman, he took two pistols away from the suspect, and rather than file them as exhibits, he converted the guns to the use of his gang.

The arrest of Oboko came after weeks of tracking by IRT operatives, following information given by Amandi who had earlier been apprehended.

Twenty-seven-year-old Amandi, a Bayelsa State indigene, said he was a commercial bus driver before he ventured into armed robbery specialising in car snatching.

He said his gang was so good at snatching and stealing cars that on one single night, his second operation after joining the robbery gang, they got five cars.

Explaining how he met Oboko, he said, “Two friends of mine kidnapped a former local government chairman in Bayelsa State and brought two cars taken from the man to me to sell in Port Harcourt. When I was checking the cars in Nembe Waterside, Corporal Oboko and one of his colleagues confronted us and took the cars away from us. Instead of taking the vehicles to their station, they made it theirs.

“Three months after that, he saw me on the road and asked me to forgive him and said that he would like me to work with him. He took me to his boss at C4I and he told him that I was highly resourceful and I could become an informant giving the police information about armed robbers in the state.

“His boss told me that if I could assist with information, I would be rewarded well and I accepted. I even gave them information that led to the arrest of big armed robbers in Port Harcourt from whom they recovered arms and ammunition.

“After one month of being an informant, Corporal Oboko said one of the cars he took from me was giving him trouble and he needed another car. He said he needed a brand new car. I told him that I had stopped stealing cars since I had started working with the car snatching gang, but he insisted. He then said I should not worry and said that he would follow me to wherever I wanted to steal the car.

“On our first outing together, we stole a Honda ‘End of Discussion’. He gave his father the first car and started using the new one. He then encouraged that we should go for more robberies because he had seen how easy the first operation was. He also arranged with Victor in Owerri, who received and sold the vehicles for us.”

Amandi said he did many operations in the night with Oboko but that whenever he was arrested, the policeman always came to his rescue by simply telling whoever had arrested him that he was an informant working for the C4I.

But it seemed car snatching in the night was not enough for Oboko.

Amadi said he told him one day that he was tired of operating in the dead of the night and said they needed to graduate to car snatching at gunpoint in broad daylight.

He said, “I thought Corporal Oboko was joking but few days after, he brought two pistols to me. He said he bought the guns. We snatched many cars around Port Harcourt, but even though we used to share the proceeds equally in the past, it got to a time that he started to cheat me.

“He would sometimes refuse to give me my own share and sometimes, he would not involve me in an operation. He started bypassing me to work with other boys I introduced to him. Not long after that, I was arrested and told the police about him.”

The police have said efforts are on to arrest other members of the gang, while Oboko would be charged with armed robbery soon.

David Cameron has resigned as prime minister after the British public rejected his personal entreaties and voted to leave the European Union.

“The will of the British people is an instruction that must be delivered,” the prime minister said, his voice breaking with emotion, and his wife, Samantha, standing beside him in Downing Street on Friday morning.

Cameron promised to remain in post until the autumn, to “steady the ship”, but said: “I do not think it would be right for me to be the captain who steers the country to its next destination.”

He said he had already spoken to the Queen to make his plans clear; but would not yet trigger article 50, the clause in the Lisbon treaty that kicks off the two-year process of withdrawal from the EU.

His dramatic announcement came after a sharp fall in the pound and as £128bn was wiped off the FTSE 100.

Earlier on Friday, Nigel Farage, the Ukip leader, became the first party leader to call for Cameron to go, saying Britain needed a “Brexit prime minister”.

The British pound fell to a 31-year low as the “leave” camp appeared  to win a dramatic and historic referendum on the United Kingdom’s membership of the European Union. Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, has warned that Britain would be treated as a “third party” and have no access to the Single Market.

In an exclusive interview with Punch Newspapers, a Hungarian lady, Emese Doktor and later renamed to Ibukun Afolabi, popularly known as White Naija Girl, who is married to a Nigerian man and decided to hawk sachet water on the streets of Lagos in a bid to feel the pain Nigerians feel, has spoken out on her experiences in the country, life in Lagos, embracing Nigeria’s rich culture and more.

Below are excerpts from the chat;

Can you give a brief background of yourself?
My husband gave me a Nigerian (Yoruba) name, ‘Ibukun,’ which means ‘blessing.’ I am originally from Hungary. I live in the United Kingdom at the moment. In 2008, I came to the UK, where I met my husband, Gbenga Afolabi of MagnumN3. I studied Business and Management. I also hold degrees in German and French languages. When I first came to the UK, I could not speak English, so I had to start learning it from the beginning.
In 2012, I decided to start ­a blog, the whitenaijagirl.com, soon after I got married. Initially, I wanted to write a book, but my husband advised me to start a blog instead so I could reach more people. I started to write about my experiences as a ‘Nigerian’ wife. Soon, many people — men and women – in relationships with Nigerians started to contact me, asking different questions. The blog became quite successful. Finally, I visited Nigeria in the middle of October last year. I stayed for a month. It was during that period that the video of me selling sachet water was shot.

Was your visit to Nigeria in October your first trip to the country?
Yes it was. But here in the UK, I have had contacts with a lot of Nigerians. The church I attend in the UK is predominantly a Nigerian church. I have always been inspired by Nigerians and their way of living. I love the culture, food and their attitude to life. I also love it that Nigerians take education seriously. My husband is a film-maker and I produce most of his films. When we came to Nigeria; that was when I noticed how hard people in Nigeria are working and how much they needed to struggle on a daily basis to earn a living.

There is an adage that says 'when you fail to prepare, prepare to fail.’ With less than two months to the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in Brazil, Team Nigeria is anything but ready to participate with any prospect of glory in the biggest sporting event in the world, leaving Nigerians concerned and disenchanted.

One would have expected there to be a change in attitude and approach after the embarrassingly empty-handed outing at the London 2012 Olympics. The upcoming Rio Olympics promises to be worse, with the team potentially only coming home with the Zika virus.

While other countries are intensifying, fine-tuning and approaching the final stages of preparation, Team Nigeria is struggling to get funds released for training and preparation, resulting in some athletes seeking out sponsors or exhausting their hard-earned financial resources.

The budgetary hullabaloo has not helped matters, with the budget only released a few weeks ago, leaving the athletes running helter-skelter for a release of funds to at least get a modest six-week preparation.

Moreover, the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) added another twist to the shoddy and disappointing preparation saga with the revelation that the sports ministry in Abuja has allegedly failed to release money to pay visa fees for Nigerian athletes expected to jet out to Durban, South Africa, for the African Senior Athletics Championship late next week.

Several appeals by former and veteran Olympians have fallen on deaf ears. The former African queen of the track Mary Onyali raised her fears and anxiety over the nation’s medal prospects in Brazil, due to a lack of planning and preparation, finding solace in prayer instead.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is investigating a fraud petition against Edo APC gubernatorial candidate, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, whose suspected money-laundering and tax evading company, KCA-Deutag Nigeria Ltd, has been accused of defrauding the family of late Chief Humphrey Irikefe Idisi of Delta State to the tune of five billion, five hundred and seventy million, nine hundred and fifty thousand naira (N5,570,950,000) only.

The two other directors of the company have been arrested by the EFCC and their statements obtained. They were granted bail. Mr. Obaseki is yet to be arrested but he has been reaching out to the family of the victim seeking for settlement. But the EFCC is more concerned about the criminal offence of tax evasion, fraud and criminal conversion.

According to the petitioners, the EFCC would be inviting Mr Obaseki this week to clear his name of this accusation. The co-directors of the suspicious company belonging to Mr Obaseki are Joachim Ostermeier and Mr Manoj Raghavan Vadakkara, both of them are foreigners.

In a petition dated May 31st 2016, signed by Barr F.S.S Ojealaro, solicitor to the estate of late Chief H.I Idisi, the family of the late Chief Humphrey I. Idisi asked the EFCC to “cause proper and professional investigations into this matter.”

Over 1,200 Policemen deployed for APC Primary Election!!!! OMG Edo State Police 'don finish'.

Sometimes I wonder the kind of country we are in and our motive of going into political offices. Is it to represent and serve the people or for selfish interest and to amass wealth! If it's to represent and serve the people I see no reason why over 1,200 policemen should be deployed by Edo State Police Command for just Primary Election, a mere party election to choose a party flag bearer? Are Nigerian Police that jobless? They don't have other vital work or duty to carry out? Remove 1,200 from the total numbers of police in Edo State and tell me how many police will be left to carry out other duties for the day. If 1,200 policemen can be deployed for just primary election, how many would they deploy when it comes to the main governorship election Is this part of the CHANGE APC
