FamilyShould I Go Thru Wit My Weddin by flexya(op): 2:27pm On Sep 11, 2012
I am due 2 perform the traditional marriage rites wit my partner this saturday (15th Sept) in Delta (her home town). We both live in Ibadan and av courted for 2yrs. She is expectin our first child in 8 weeks, so we agreed 2 do the "right thing" before the child is born. We agreed 2 keep the ceremony minimal and just present items on "the list" and then receive parental blessings from both sides. We r both financially challenged at the moment and decided 2 stick 2 a budget of N250k. The "list and dowry" itself was about N130K so we reserved N120k for travel and hotel cost for us and the a handful of our family members/friends who wil travel wit us from ibadan. All will fit in a bus and a car we plan 2 take.

To make things easier, we sent the N130k 2 one of her uncles wife who is based in delta 2 help buy all the items on the list. Upon receipt of the money, she told us we also needed 2 sent another 40k for traditional clothin. We also forwarded that, makin a total of N170k. We av spent some money our non traditional clothes 2 wear on the dy, shoes, jewelleries (for her) and some drinks for our travellin family/friends. We av also given her mum and dad money for traditional clothes. This has cost N160kN so we are already over budget. Last week, we were told that the money we sent won't go far and shld try 2 up the money 2 N250K. My fiancee had told them our budget, without mentionin that the figure of N250k also included our travel and accomodation. Her family is not poor bt feel I am the one who wants 2 mary, so should play my part. The justification for requestin extra money was that, they needed 2 buy a cow since ppl in their town (Sapele) had heard about the weddin and would attend. Some family elders will also need 2 come from the village and would av 2 be transported 2 Sapele. We were also told that the family house (in Sapele) had 2 be painted (on the exterior cost this is customary wit urobos?). My brother in law agreed 2 do this after some persuasion

While I was digestin that and worryin about the additional money I need 2 find, I was asked if I had bought everythin on "the list"! WTF! Imagine my surprise when I learnt that the money I sent had notin 2 do wit the list bt for "preparations". Preparations for what? I never asked for a loud weddin nor invite more dan a handful of ppl. They claim its the first weddin in their family in a while so its hard 2 keep it "quieter dan that". I wish 2 add that this is my second marriage. The first ended 2yrs ago after 10yrs matrimony. So u can understand my limited enthusiasm. Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt.

Now, it not just the money bt the fact that the weddin is no longer what I imagined or asked for. I also feel my financial situation would lead my inlaws 2 undermine or humilate me on the dy if they do decide 2 fund the weddin at all cost. They av even sent me a message 2 the effect that the weddin will go ahead as planned after I suggested a postponement. I don't think I can condone a situation where I am told they "funded my weddin". I would rather fund a weddin that only involves 10ppl who will simply eat Mr Biggs and go home dan endure future humilation.

At this point, I am at a crossroads. What should I so cos my brain is tellin me not 2 turn up on the dy and I said this 2 my fiancee last nite.I tried 2 explain 2 her that it is meant 2 be our special dy bt its all been taken out of our hands. She could only reply wit tear and threats 2 kill herself. I also threw some of the blame on her insistence that we do the traditional weddin now, fully aware of our financial position and her pregnancy situation. We did our registry weddin in august (secretly, without either family knowing- just close friends), so I see no issue of givin birth outside wedlock.

Please advise.
PoliticsRe: Mismanagement At The National Stadium Abuja ..pictures by flexya: 10:36am On Sep 11, 2012
iykeG: What does it take to employ permanent staffs to maintain this stadium and we are saying there is no employment in the country. The Government want all the money to themselves.
Thank u for raisin the issue bt the stadium, like most government properties do av maintenance staff and managers who simply fail 2 do their job and in most cases, fail 2 turn up. Walk round most State secretariats and federal govt buildin (federal high court abuja exempted) and u won't believe resident/full time cleaners exist. Even some commissioners offices av spider webs hangin. There is the issue of "man management" 2 get anytig done in this country and there is the attitude of "no bi my papa get am" amongst most ie civil servant and public servants (politicians).

As I always say, don't just blame politician who cannot steal one naira without the support and active role of civil servants, who would help perfect the papers and bring the stealin formula. These civil servant steal and abet stealin under successive govts and embezzle more dan politician (not defendin them). Was it not a civil servant dan stole the pension money runnin into billions and opened 3 different bank accounts wit billions on the same dy.

So how does all my rantin relate 2 the topic? No matter who leads (or rules us), its the culture of doin things and attitude 2 our work that must change.

No wonder the return match between the Super eagles and Liberia has been slated for Calabar. Its easier 2 use another stadium dan fix up the national stadiums in abuja or lagos! Now u see my point. "No be my papa get am attitude"
Car TalkRe: 230,000 Miles And Still Going Strong by flexya: 9:55pm On Sep 09, 2012
Do trucks qualify for this survey cos my 2000 Iveco eurostar truck has just ticked over 1.3M miles without engine rebuild yet. Got her wit 600k on the clock. Had the oil pump and turbo changed though.

Carwise? My 1996 Toyota Landcruiser prado is the most wit 140k miles. Had 2 buy a new engine about 20k miles ago. Its a long story bt blame the missus for that. I always wondered why cars that go the mileage trucks do?
Christianity EtcRe: Oyedepo's Slap Suit Goes To Appeal Court by flexya: 9:11pm On Sep 09, 2012
Billyonaire: That is not even the issue. The victim is a minor. Just a little girl of between 12 to 15yrs.
If that is the case, the lawyer has a point

Christianity EtcRe: Oyedepo's Slap Suit Goes To Appeal Court by flexya: 11:45am On Sep 09, 2012
If Oyedepo did indeed "slap" the lady, then there is both a criminal charge of assault (slap is an assualt) and civil suit for compensation due 2 the public disgrace and the effect it would av had on the lady's reputation, self confidence and emotion. The suit is clearly just for the civil aspect. Two tigs are clear thus far. 1) The lawyer is either been spriritually caged or incompetent cos the suit itself fails 2 divulge the identity of the lady. Only in cases involvin minors (under 18s) or matters of national security would the identity of the claimant be hidden and only wit the order of the court. If the lawyers files the matter a million times, it would be struck out cos the claimant has no name. Or the lawyer think court would order Oyedepo 2 pay N2b 2 "a lady he slapped". Wat if more dan one was slapped? How do u distinguish who brought the suit? The lawyers wife could even lay claim 2 the slap (hence the billions) 2) It also appears 2 me that Oyedepo himself has gone spiritual, thereby makin the lawyer blind 2 this 100level law student error.

If the lady wants her dosh, she should re-file the suit competently. What's the big deal in puttin ur name? Afterall, the congregation in front of whom she was allegedly slapped already knows her identity, along wit millions watchin on internt tv. So if they meant 2 harm her as claimed, they would av done so now

AutosAUTO DEALERS: Who Does Trade-ins Or Part Xchange by flexya(op): 9:36pm On Sep 07, 2012
Just wondered if any of the autodealers on here entertain trade-ins or part exchange. Am in the market for a Range rover sport [2006-07) OR mercedes CLS. Could be toks or reg. I av a Range R vogue 04.
Car TalkInfinity FX Vs Range Rover Sport by flexya(op): 11:02am On Sep 06, 2012
I was in the market 2 buy a Range Rover Sport 2 replace my 04 Range Rover Vogue until I spoke wit a friend that owns a Toyota/Nissan dealership, here in Ibadan. I told him my reasons for wishin 2 dispose of my vogue was the fact that I ave found it expensive 2 maintain (due 2 reliability issues and inability 2 find able hands of mechanics here in Ibadan). Most problems often involve a tow 2 Lagos. Very inconvenient, expensive and difficult 2 supervise. He subsequently suggested an Infinity FX, which I know little about, except usin a FX35 at my brothers weddin in 2008. His opinion could be biased since he has a Nissan dealership. So my good people, advise me.

My criterium are as follows:

1) Reliability: Pls mention issues u r aware off on either. I already know about the brakes on the RRS.
2) Maintenance/runnin cost - Must not be as much as the vogue
3) Prestige: Its goin 2 be a weekend/functions vehicle wit occasional tourin.
4) Performance

I would particularly welcome comments from ppl who av owned either/both, as well as auto dealer.

PoliticsRe: Namadi Sambo, Sacked Nnaji, GEJ Did Not. by flexya: 9:58pm On Aug 30, 2012
This conflict of interest everyone keeps going on about is completely bafflin me. Even in civilised and more advanced countries, nothing stops a public officer (or his company) from biddin for a contract/service like Nnajis "associate company" did. All that is required is for him to declare such interest from the onset and excuse himself from any process where he might be adjudged biased. So Ndidi okereke does not buy shares in companies operatin under the NSE, Senator Chukwumerije should resign from the senate commmittee on sports cos his son is an olympian, didn't all these politicians bid for abuja govt houses under obasanjo (ok, I know this wasn't transparent bt its an example), Bank staff should not take loans from their banks (payin normal interest rates). THe point I am makin is, as long as the process is transparent, their interest was declared and the party involved did not use his position 2 gain undue advantage over others, then its ball game. So far, no one has said anything really 2 suggest Nnaji acted outside this perimeter or av they. 2 be honest, I knew very little about Bart until he resigned bt from what I av read, heard and felt (thru 3months of great power supply), not only was he perfomin as a minister bt he has a solid and upright background worthy of any countries ministerial job. Perhaps what we prefer are non performin ministers wit no "conflict of interest. While am not pointin fingers at anyone, who exactly is the minister for education, health or agriculture and what av they done 2 better the lives of we Nigerians in these other crucial ministeries bt I guess they are worthy of their post because their companies haven't "benefited or attempt 2 benefit from this govt". As someone said, powerful forces wanted Nnaji out and they succeeded. This begs me 2 believe that the people in power are not necessarily the people we see in office. Work that out urself. Please feel free 2 correct me constructively if I av missed sometig. No aboki, tribal, or GEJ comments/insults pls.
PoliticsRe: Buhari: I'm Ready For PDP In 2015 by flexya: 9:29pm On Aug 30, 2012
I am a Buhari fan bt even I will be the first 2 say, its Hi time he hung his gloves. U r not Abraham Lincoln. Every time he contests, he denies the Nation a genuine chance of displacin PDP. I am startin 2 believe that PDP (or its curse) is what's pushin Buhari.
