PoliticsForgotten Case Of Alleged Corruption By Bola Tinubu | Premium Times (Pics) by floret23(op): 7:02pm On Sep 08, 2022
The EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, in an interview with This Day newspaper last June said the presidential candidate of the APC, Bola tinubu, is under investigation over assets declaration.

Mr tinubu’s source of wealth has been the subject of controversies with many Nigerians calling for his investigation.

Although the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, denied any plan to investigate Mr tinubu, a copy of a letter from the EFCC to the Code of Conduct Bureau demanding copies of Mr tinubu’s asset disclosure form had circulated on social media.

According to The Peoples Gazette, an online news medium that broke the news, the letter dated 6 November, 2020, was signed by the then Lagos zonal head, Mr Bawa, who is now the Chairman of the EFCC.

Mr tinubu has been accused of having interest in alpha beta Consulting and diverting Lagos State cash through the company.

In a 40-page document submitted to a Lagos high court in 2020, Dapo Apara, a former managing director of the company, accused Mr tinubu and Akin Doherty, a former commissioner in Lagos, of money laundering, fraud, tax evasion, and several other corrupt practices.

Deji Adeyanju, the convener of Concerned Nigerians, on 25 October, 2019, had also petitioned the EFCC to probe Mr tinubu about the source of money delivered in bullion vans to his Ikoyi home on the eve of the 2019 presidential election.

The EFCC had over the years dismissed media questioning regarding Mr Adeyanju’s petition against Mr Tinubu’s.

As the gospel grew from those who knew him to those who started knowing him, hope was once again restored in the future of Nigeria as Peter Obi clearly stands out as an alternative that we can believe in. As more people began to get baptized into this belief, an Obi movement was born. In no time, the movement turned into ‘Obi-dience’ to the new Nigeria that beckons with Peter Obi.

Incidentally, Nigerians and Africans would hardly be able to predict the exact impact of the ‘Obidient’ Movement on the 2023 Presidential election in Nigeria and beyond. However, the daily and steady growth as well as the strength of the movement is already attracting global attention. And for some of us, the movement is set to revolutionize and redefine Nigeria, Africa, and global politics from the practical standpoint of the duties and responsibilities of leaders and followers.

A few days ago, an American Facebook friend of mine wrote to ask me the meaning of ‘Obidients’ that the social media space is currently awash with. Responding, I took time to tell him our obvious, interesting but not so palatable political history and development since the precolonial era. Having established the ugly times, we have been through a lot as a nation; I zeroed into the last 22 years of our political development (our current 4th republic), and sadness embraced my heart as I explained how we have progressively retrogressed.

My heart broke and I felt like I was reliving the accumulated burden of this 4th Republic as I narrated the ordeal of the last 22 years and how as a nation our leaders have progressively set new barometers for corruption, insecurity, nepotism and failed economic policies. The tears of my soul opened the realities of how the policies of our old, recycled, selfish, corrupt, nepotistic, and unpatriotic leaders have unleashed terror on the populace to the extent that sorrow, tears, hopelessness, and blood remain the extant results.

I was happy to talk about how happy, hospitable, and resilient Nigerians are. I was however angry to emphasize that the last 7 years of Buhari and APC stepped up the nations gloom and doom to the extent that for the first time since the end of the civil war in 1970, our resilience is being tested to a breaking point. The daily harvest of needless death in the hands of terrorists of all shades, our national economic collapse leading to untold hardship, the oppressive extravagance of the ruling class, the hopelessness in our broken health, and educational infrastructure and many more are palpable testaments to our recent history presided over by President Buhari and his cronies.

In the midst of the hopelessness, 2023 Presidential election beckons with fear and concern that the same old culture of choosing between recycled ‘political devils’ would again present itself. To put it in perspective, over 200 million Nigerians wallow under the economic and political subjugation of a few thousand political lords who are under one percent of the population. This less than 1% of the population control over 80 percent of our national wealth. They present to us a nation where politicians with no business addresses are perpetually richer than Nigerian business people and entrepreneurs. And that is part of our tragedy that looks to be renewed in 2023. God forbids!

As the political process leading to 2023 develops, Nigerians in their fears and uncertainties helplessly observed varying political intrigues from ‘Tambuwarisation’ to `alleged` Delegates buying. All hope was lost and in the mounting helplessness, many resigned to faith by deciding to make a choice between two old recycled ‘devils’. Alas, the unexpected happened as a certain Peter Obi emerged as a candidate under a relatively unknown political party without `structure`. But Peter Obi is verified and known to many as an embodiment of prudence, progressive conservatist with sound and record-breaking economic background. He is also young, hale, hearty, and intellectually sagacious. You can go and verify.

In no time, his words (past and present) were embraced as speaking to hope and oxygenation of our educational infrastructure currently in coma; our economic resurgence was seen through his heart while a secured and law-abiding Nigeria stands out as a firm possibility in his disposition. Indeed, a New Nigeria that will be catalyst for Africa’s redefinition appeared on the horizon through him.

Today, OBI-ISM is becoming revolutionary. People now proudly pride themselves as Obidified, Obedient, Obicentric and Obi-istic. Time will tell how the world will be impacted by it. Surely, the world will be impacted, and I am happily ‘Obidient’.

Finally, I asked my American Facebook friend, ‘Mr Mark Biden, do you now understand the meaning of Obidient?’ In his reply, he said to me ‘read the caption on my profile’. I opened his profile and it read ‘ I AM AN AMERICAN AND I AM PROUDLY OBIDIENT.

Nigerians Are Aware That Tinubu Is In Presidential Race To Gain Control Of The Nations Treasury - PDP Claps Back At Tinubu

Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has come under fire from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who claims that Nigerians are aware of his genuine motivations for running for office.Information Guide Nigeria

In response to Tinubu’s statement that the opposition party is dead, the PDP made this statement.

The PDP stated the following in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Debo Ologunagna:

“FROM BOLA TINUBU’S INCOHERENT DISCOURSE, HE APPEARS TO BE BATTLING WITH ISSUES OF ETHICAL CHALLENGES AND INELIGIBILITY TO CONTEST ELECTION ON ACCOUNT OF INCONSISTENCIES IN HIS EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, NAME, ANCESTRY, AGE, CORRUPTION ALLEGATIONS AMONG MYRIADS OF ISSUES.

ASIWAJU IS A HUGE BAGGAGE TO THE APC. HE SHOULD KNOW THAT BECAUSE OF HIM THERE IS A DAILY EXODUS OF MILLIONS OF APC MEMBERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY INTO THE PDP.

IN THE LAST ONE MONTH, OVER 5 MILLION APC MEMBERS HAVE DEFECTED TO THE PDP. IN THE LAGOS STATE AXIS, HIS SUPPOSED STRONGHOLD, CLOSE TO ONE MILLION APC MEMBERS HAVE DECAMPED TO THE PDP SINCE HIS EMERGENCE AS APC PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE.

IT IS DISTRESSING THAT ASIWAJU TINUBU SPEAKS LIKE SOMEONE UNDER THE INFLUENCE WITH INCOHERENT DISCOURSE AND ABSENCE OF MIND THAT FURTHER EXPOSE A LACK OF CAPACITY FOR LEADERSHIP ESPECIALLY AT THE PRESIDENTIAL LEVEL.”OLOGUNAGBA SAID

“IT IS RATHER SHAMEFUL THAT THE APC PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE ALLUDED TO THE NATION’S RAILWAY SYSTEM, WHICH WAS REVITALISED BY THE PDP ADMINISTRATION BUT PAINFULLY SURRENDERED TO TERRORISTS AND BANDITS BY THE APC GOVERNMENT.

NIGERIANS GAVE ASIWAJU AHMED TINUBU THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT BUT HE FAILED THEM BY ENGINEERING A DECEITFUL GOVERNMENT LEADING TO THE UGLY INDICES OF INSECURITY AND BLOODLETTING, ECONOMIC HARDSHIP, UNEMPLOYMENT, DISUNITY AND LOW LIFE EXPECTANCY IMPOSED ON OUR NATION IN THE LAST SEVEN YEARS.

HE SHOULD KNOW THAT NIGERIANS ARE AWARE THAT HE IS IN THE PRESIDENTIAL RACE NOT TO SERVE BUT TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE NATION’S TREASURY SO AS TO EXPAND HIS EXPLOITATIVE ENTERPRISE AND ECONOMIC EMPIRE BEYOND LAGOS STATE.

THE APC PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE HAS NOT RESPONDED TO ALLEGATIONS THAT HE IS THE PROMOTER OF THE INCREASE IN VAT, ELECTRICITY TARIFF, IMPORT DUTIES, STAMP DUTY, FUEL PRICE HIKE AS WELL AS OTHER EXPLOITATIVE TOLLS BY THE APC FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, FROM WHICH HE ALLEGEDLY BENEFITS THROUGH MANY STOOGES IN THE FEDERAL INLAND REVENUE SERVICE (FIRS) AND OTHER REVENUE GENERATING AGENCIES OF GOVERNMENT.

THIS IS BECAUSE NIGERIANS HAVE RECOGNISED THE PDP AND ITS PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE, ATIKU ABUBAKAR AS THE SOLUTION OUR NATION NEEDS AT THIS MOMENT WHILE ASIWAJU HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS ‘ANOTHER PROBLEM COMING (APC).” THE STATEMENT IN PART READ.

Peter Obi’s Meetings With Nigerians In Diaspora Causing Goose Pimples Among His Enemies – PDP Chieftain, Jonathan

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Emmanuel Jonathan, has claimed that the awareness movement of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, across the nation and Nigerians in the diaspora was causing goose pimples in the camp of his enemies.
Speaking in Nsukka, Enugu State, on Monday, Jonathan noted that Peter Obi is the only candidate enjoying genuine goodwill from Nigerians.

The PDP chieftain berated those verbally attacking the Labour Party presidential candidate and his running mate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed.

According to him, Peter Obi has received widespread support and goodwill from millions of Nigerians because of his agenda of rebuilding the country’s economy.

Jonathan said current happenings in the country show that some powers that be and some candidates in the 2023 presidential elections are not finding it easy with the rising popularity and acceptability of Peter Obi.

He noted that “this is a result of the many attacks on the Obi/Datti presidential awareness movement by candidates of other political parties and their faithful. Despite all these attacks, Peter Obi and his running mate continue to engage Nigerians with possible solutions that will take Nigeria out of its present state of quagmire. This is unlike other candidates whose antecedents are against the tides.

"Among all the presidential candidates in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi is about the only candidate who is enjoying genuine goodwill from Nigerians who are disposed to donate their hard-earned incomes in support of the actualisation of this project as against other candidates with expectations to have better Nigeria where everyone will enjoy comfort of life like most of the western countries.”

Insecurity: Buhari Being Used To Islamise Nigeria — Catholic Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese | Vanguard News

By Peter Okutu
Catholic Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, Rev. Peter Chukwu, yesterday, stated that President Muhammadu Buhari has failed to prosecute those allegedly using him to Islamise Nigeria.

According to him, “that is why the government is helpless to combat the problems.”

Addressing journalists after the inauguration of the Catholic Media Practitioners Association, CAMPAN, Ebonyi State branch, the bishop added that rational people are no longer comfortable with what is happening in the country.

On the issue of insecurity, Chukwu stated that “We have lost faith in the current government to restore security,” adding that Nigerians are already disappointed with the APC-led Government, following its inability to combat crimes and criminality in the country.

According to the Catholic Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese: “We have lost so many Priests in the North and also in the southeast and it is so worrisome but I am not surprised because Priests and Prophets are always the victims of persecution throughout church history. It shows what the Priests represent and stand for, and what we preach is pricking them in their conscience, and instead of repenting, they decided to fight back by killing, kidnapping, torturing, and destroying our churches.

“But I am consoled by the statement of Christ in Matthew 16 vs 35 that no gates of the underworld shall ever prevail against the church. The church comes out strong when you push it to the wall.

“It will be unfair to say that the church as a body has compromised. Many individuals who work for the church and feel that they are very friendly to the government are no longer holding the government accountable but if you listen to what is preached in the different dioceses, you will see that no Priest is comfortable when any government is not doing what it is supposed to do for the masses and we are also vocal about it and we are always critical about it.

“But we want to be constructive in our criticisms; no Priest who has been well trained can feel comfortable in the face of all the terrible things that have been happening around.

“When Buhari was campaigning for the Presidency, he was coming with his credentials as a former military leader who was an anti-corruption crusader who did not tolerate any corruption or nonsense. They promised to nip in the bud, all cases of Boko Haram attacks. Unfortunately, when he took power, he failed to prosecute those people using him to Islamize Nigeria and that is why the government is helpless to combat the problems.

“If you look closely, you will see that all the leaders of our security apparatus are from the core Fulani North. It has never been like that in the history of Nigeria. There is an imbalance in the appointments of the Leaders of the security architecture. It is so lopsided that they will always execute their agenda without much opposition.

“Come to think of it again, a lot of people have lost their voices because what you say will come after you but despite that, rational people are very uncomfortable with what is going on. It is unfortunate. We have lost faith in the current government to restore security.

“What we are praying for is a peaceful, free, and fair election that will usher in God’s chosen leaders who will solve the problems of this country, and if that problem is not solved, the continued existence of Nigeria as a corporate entity is under a very serious question mark.”

PoliticsPeter Obi Beats Tinubu, Atiku In Popularity Race On Google Trends In August by floret23(op): 2:17pm On Sep 07, 2022
pulse.ng
Searches on Google Trends from Monday, August 1 to Wednesday, August 31, show some dynamics that might play out in the next election.

Obi slightly beat Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) while Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) trailed behind them.

Recall that in August, the three presidential candidates alongside chieftains of their political parties and statesmen were in London to hold meetings.

The London meeting prompted social media conversations about the candidates as all of them trended on Twitter for days.

But while social media conversations about the candidates were largely pushed by their supporters to promote them and berate other candidates, Google Trends offer insights about the public’s interest in the candidates; why they are searching about them, and where they searched from.

In July, Pulse reported that Obi topped the list of searches by Nigerians on Google Trends in the first half of 2022.

However, a comparative analysis of searches about the candidates on Google Trends from Monday, August 1 to Wednesday, August 31, indicated some dynamics that might play out in the February 2023 presidential election.

During the period under review, the search term, Peter Obi has a higher number of searches than the search terms Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar.

For instance, the public’s interest in Obi had a 100 percent surge on Saturday, August 13.

A check by Pulse showed that the increase in the number of searches about Obi was due to his claim that Sambisa is twice the size of Israel.

Expectedly, many Nigerians criticised the presidential candidate as the statement was fact-checked to be false.

Tinubu also had a spike in the number of searches about him on Wednesday, August 10, 2022. The surge is attributed to the statement by his campaign management warning Obi to caution his followers on social media.

However, while searches throughout the month were largely about Obi and Tinubu, the search term, Atiku Abubakar recorded the highest number of searches on Monday, August 29, 2022.

The only explanation for the spike in Nigerians’ interest in the former Vice President at the time was due to his visit to Kano State where he received the former governor of the state, Ibrahim Shekarau, who dumped the New Nigeria Peoples Party, (NNPP) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Another noteworthy point from the myriad of information on the search engine is the location of the searchers.

The bulk of the search interests on Obi emanated from the south-south and the south-east region of the country.

In the North, he had a significant percentage of searches in Kogi, Plateau Sokoto, Benue, and Kwara state.

But in Lagos and Ogun, he trailed behind Tinubu, whose search terms recorded 40% and 47% respectively during the period under review.

For Tinubu, the six states in the South-west including Lagos and some states recorded the highest search volume for the former governor of Lagos State.

In the North, searches about Tinubu in Bauchi, Kebbi, Zamfara and Gombe state dwarfed Atiku’s search term.

Tinubu also shared some significant search percentages with Atiku in Nasarawa, Kano and Kaduna state.

Interestingly, in Jigawa state, it seems Atiku is the only candidate in the race as both Tinubu and Obi recorded zero percentage of searches in the state.

Atiku also has a higher search percentage in Yobe, Adamawa, Kebbi, Sokoto and Kano state.

His search term also recorded some significant numbers in Borno, Gombe, Kaduna, Ekiti and Kogo state.

To some extent, this data confirms the narrative that the 2023 election may turn out to be a tribal contest among the frontline candidates.
