One of the major challenges we face as a nation is communication not just in how we speak, but in how we understand and express technical subjects. This challenge is rooted in our adoption of a language that is not indigenous to us. Imagine a Nigeria where everyone communicates in a shared native language; comprehension, collaboration, and critical thinking would naturally become easier. The progress we see in nations like China and those in the West is not accidental it’s partly due to their ability to think, learn, and communicate complex ideas in their native languages. This communication gap becomes evident when discussions around technical or financial topics arise such as the cost per kilometer of a major infrastructure project like the Coastal Highway. Many practicing engineers, policymakers, and even journalists may interpret such questions emotionally or defensively, rather than technically. But the truth is simple: no two projects, even similar ones, will ever have the same cost per kilometer. Every project’s cost is determined by a combination of dynamic variables, including: Material costs: Prices fluctuate due to global supply chain issues and local market availability. Exchange rates: Nigeria’s dependence on imported materials makes project costs highly sensitive to currency fluctuations. Manpower and expertise: Skilled labor availability and cost differ across regions and project scales. Geological and climatic conditions: Terrain type, soil strength, and weather patterns influence design requirements and construction speed. Duration and productivity: Delays, resource wastage, or unforeseen circumstances can affect total expenditure. For large-scale projects like the Coastal Highway, it is standard practice to divide the project into sections, each with its own budgeted or target cost per kilometer. What the Minister of Works, Mr. Umahi, should ideally provide is the budgeted or target cost per km not the actual cost, since the latter evolves as the project progresses. This distinction is important. Even advanced economies struggle with accurate cost projections for mega projects. For example: The HS2 rail project in the United Kingdom has seen multiple cost revisions due to inflation, scope changes, and environmental challenges. The Sizewell C nuclear project also remains without a fixed final cost due to similar fluctuating factors. These examples highlight that cost estimates are not static they are living figures that evolve with time, context, and economic realities. Therefore, the goal of project costing isn’t to predict an exact figure but to establish a realistic, data-driven target that allows for control, accountability, and adaptability. Ministers and project managers should communicate these distinctions clearly, helping the public understand that “budgeted” is not the same as “final,” and “variance” does not imply corruption but complexity. Ultimately, the conversation about project costing in Nigeria should move beyond politics and emotion to education and transparency. If we improve how we communicate and understand such issues perhaps even in our indigenous languages we’ll foster a more informed public and a more accountable government. A president that thinks Nigeria youths are lazy without job creation, I am sure so many masters holder will jump to an offer of employment as cleaners and gardeners of this stadium but we let party difference cloud our thinking, people that sing praise to Buhari naming the stadium after MKO abiola come and see, I pass by the structure every day and wonder what it would cost Nigeria to maintain a stadium located at FCT...we shouldn't let party differences, religion and tribe cloud our thinking, Buhari is a failure |

Moukandjo:your president has short memory and you don't see anything wrong with it...did he assume office 2005? I never said he (Jonathan) provided a space, I was only reminding everyone about a president that thinks the youths are lazy without providing a job, Mr memory card. |
And the president still thinks youths are lazy without provision of employment...it's a shame, Buhari and supporters are shameless, look what they are going through to earn less than $200...lets be sincere we need capable hands in Nigeria not a man that cannot operate iPhone, talk more of job creation, I am not atiku fan but I'd vote for him to unsit the incompetent lifeless man, crime rate in Nigeria is increasing daily because of poverty and it's funny how some people are still blindfolded with the blocking of linkages lies and corruption fight, Buhari has no plan for Nigeria trust me he is just about power ...I could write all night about how angry I am knowing some Nigerians still believe in failure (Buhari) he has failed before, he will fail again if reelected |
Thanks Wizkid...we need no one to tell us that atiku is a better candidate, there's no point being indecisive because of your selfish interest or rather beef with davido, apc endorsed KWAM in Lagos and he was there singing Sai Buhari just because he got paid by tinubu, so because pdp is with davido now you are back from your break... if you could second davido now they will understand that the youths can help in decision making of the country and they would want to perform when they assume the office...Buharis leadership capability is so poor that he is not fit for a nursery 2 class captain, so wizkid if you don't have anything reasonable to say kindly keep shut up...politics is for men, it obvious you are still a kid...if atiku like he should Bleep up too, 2023 we will all leave the boat again but for now...we are obidiently atikulating |
Jonathan lost simple because he is not a northerner... |
People's general that can't deal with insurgency...It baffles me how some people still manage to laugh with this man because of their selfish interest, just take a look at the man in the picture all smiles because he'd probably get paid after the rally today, I am an architect and if I ever have a chance to serve as a Nigeria president it will not only tell on the infrastructural development, Buhari serve as military head and he can't even find an end to boko haram it's such a shame, no one should quote me saying I am a paid atiku fan but I stand with anyone that will send this man back to daura... |
ayukdaboss:Truth be told Obasanjo might not be having things comfortable for him under this administration, the same goes for every family in Nigeria...go to every Nigeria university and you will see the rate at which they are breeding internet fraudsters, not just because of peer pressure or love for flashy life but some people just want to be able to afford their daily meals...pmb is clueless and he doesn't have this country at heart, Tinubu is just a selfish man taking sides because of his so called failed party |
