The Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, had on Wednesday, recieved about 25 landlords from the Temidire, Alagbado area of Lagos State, who came running for cover, following an attack launched on them by a suspected homosexual in the area. It was gathered that a petition revealing that the residents’ lives were in danger as the suspect constantly attacks them with thugs, was submitted to the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, by the complainants, who were led by the Baale, Alhaji Najimu Abioye. In their statement, they said, “The suspect, identified as Alhaji Tunji, has raped many young men in the area, and usually moved with thugs to collect money from traders and the people building houses in the community, adding that Tunji has continued to “buy his way out, and molest them with hoodlums, taking possession of people’s lands, boasting that he is untouchable.” The Baale, who is the town head, while speaking with PUNCH, said: “Tunji is gay. We reported him at Alagbado Police station, but he went to Area G Command, Ogba, and lied that we brought hoodlums to his house and burgled it. At that time, he left the area, but resurfaced later to resume another round of trouble”. He also revealed that the suspect was taking over people’s plots of land and selling them. “He has thugs who work for him, causing havoc every now and then. That is why we have run to the police to help us tame him and save us the troubles. Olufemi, who worked as a plumber, revealed that about two weeks ago, one of his friends informed him that there was work to do at the Alhaji’s house. It was when he went to Alhaji’s residence to work that the suspect lured him to a room, asking him to UnCloth and attempted to touch his body. “I stood confused for a moment and wondering why a fellow man will be asking me to UnCloth. The moment I realized he was up to something bad, I made my way out of his house as fast as I could”, he added. The suspect, upon interrogation by the police, said: “There is no truth in what they are saying. Have you seen any land agent that does not have co-workers? I am a land agent. I don’t have thugs. I have co-workers. When I visit the landed property under my supervision and some people try to fight us, there is no wrong in fighting them back.” He went further to say that there is no truth in the allegations leveled against him. “I am a complete man and I am not insane. How can I make an attempt to lure my fellow man to bed? I am not a homosexual and everything I do as regards land and property are legitimate. “I am innocent of these charges officer”, Alhaji Tunde added. The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, has however promised to further investigate the issue. http://sunnewsonline.com/new/suspected-homosexual-thug-in-police-net/

Gani Adams says his faction of the O’odua People’s Congress (OPC) will not participate in the protest against the withdrawal of the contract for the protection of NNPC Pipelines. Gani Adams Gani Adams Adams, the National Coordinator of the pressure group, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos said that protest would not solve the problem of the contract withdrawal. “We had a meeting over the withdrawal of contract to protect the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) pipelines. “Dr Fredrick Fasheun, myself and some other persons were at the meeting. I want to state categorically that protest against withdrawal of the contract was not part of our discussion. “It is a contract between us and the NNPC. The issue should not be misunderstood for something else. “I don’t want to bring ethnicity into this matter. I don’t want people to see us in bad light. “We read the story on this protest in the newspapers like any other person. We are not part of the protest,’’ Adams said. NAN recalls that the Federal Government under President Goodluck Jonathan had in March, awarded a multi-billion Naira contract to the OPC to secure NNPC pipelines in the South-West zone of the country. OPC had on June 15, threatened to withdraw it personnel from the NNPC pipelines nationwide and other groups in the country due to no payment by NNPC. However, the pipeline surveillance contract awarded to ex-militant leaders from the Niger Delta region and the South-West pressure group, OPC, was finally revoked by the Federal Government on June 16. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/gani-adams-opc-says-will-not-protest-withdrawal-of-pipeline-surveillance-contract/#sthash.c6WZkQNG.dpuf

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday appealed to Nigerians, irrespective of their political or ethnic affiliations, to form a united front against corrupt practices in the society. The President, who made the appeal when he hosted members of the All Progressive Congress to the breaking of fast at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, reiterated that “if we don’t kill corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria.” He also enjoined members of the APC to drop their differences or influence in order for the party to achieve its campaign promises to Nigerians. According to him, the APC-led administration is determined to fulfill all the three basic promises of addressing security, economy/employment and corruption, which it made in its manifesto. “No matter the level you are, drop your influence so that we can help achieve the manifesto – security, economy, employment and corruption- because if we don’t kill corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria. “We have to ensure that people we bring forward are those that will move the society forward,” he said. President Buhari, who narrated how the APC successfully defeated the PDP-led Federal Government in the March 28 presidential election, commended former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu for his support and words of encouragement. Buhari said, “I always like to go down the memory lane to show how lucky we are as a political group. “At no stage was the decision taken by chance, it was all deliberate. “The leaders of the parties felt the only way to wrest power from the PDP was for us to come together. “I, in particular, was scared after previous failures of the elections of 2003, 2007 and 2011. “We dissolved our various parties to form APC, then we applied to INEC, for once I was grateful to INEC. “We had gone with nine people to INEC to apply and INEC advised us that we needed at least 25 people to form a political party. “We were able to go back and raised 35 members across the country and then successfully registered the party. “INEC then informed the federal government that we have met the requirements hence we cannot be denied registration. “Many doubting Thomases said merger had never succeeded in Nigeria but here we are. “I went into this long explanation so that you will appreciate how far we have come and for a society as ours, if we respect the constitution, then all the greed and problems will be a thing of the fast.” In his remarks, Tinubu, who spoke on behalf of the party members, frowned at the insinuation in some quarters that the Buhari’s administration was too slow. He said the APC-led administration could not clean the “16 years mess of the PDP in 30 days.” Tinubu described the APC as an Armoured Personnel Carrier, saying it represented the diversity of Nigeria. He thanked President Buhari for bringing together people of various backgrounds, regardless of religious affiliations, to break the fast with him.. “We believe this diversity will continue to propel us to economic growth under your leadership,” he said. http://www.punchng.com/news/we-must-unite-to-kill-corruption-buhari/
