PoliticsRe: It Is Not Too Late For Tinubu And Apc. by Forzs: 10:14am On Jul 18, 2022
MikoB:
I am writing this article base on the recent happenings in the political space in nigeria. As some people already know that I am a staunch supporter of the the vice president in person of Prof Yemi Osinbajo and I will always support him, I have also made it known recently that Osinbajo will come back and that he is the only hope and life to the ruling APC if they had given him the ticket, anyway let me move to the topic of this article, it is just an advise to Tinubu and Apc, that can help them to turn the misfortune that is about to happen to them around, I know pride and arrogance may not allow them to accept all what I am going to write here, there is one adage in Yoruba tongue, that says Omo Eni ko sedi bebere kafi ileke si idi omo elomi, meaning even if your child is not beautiful that does not mean you will beautify an outsider against your child, recently most Tinubu supporters that know me in person have approached me they even pleaded that I should be part of their meeting when Tinubu came here to france recently but I refused, I am a principled person, I am not a person that will be cajoled not to speak his mind, so that was the reason I stayed out, the one that touched me the most happened yesterday so I told him I will give an open and public advise to Tinubu and Apc, and this will be the best I can do at this particular point in time.
1)Tinubu should not take the defeat in Osun as one of those political talk that you win some and loose some, what is happening is far behond that, it is a sign of anger in people against the apc led govt generally.

2)Tinubu and his handlers should not try to play smartness by looking for a way to outsmart Inec and every other law enforsement agencies, since these agencies blocked some loopholes in Osun elections.

3)Tinubu should not rely on Buhari and the federal power because this might not come.

4)Tinubu should go on genuine reconciliation among the aggrieved party members, he should humble himself and approach the VP in a manner that can pacify him and find a way to make him the campaign chairman of the election with this, the Christian community can be rest assured and I am sure this will swing at least 20 to 30 percent Christians back to him.

5)the last and the most important, it concerns the performance of governance in Lagos State, Tinubu should know that since nigerians have lost hope in the federal govt, Tinubu needs lagos state to prove a point, but the lagos state govt has been a dissapointment but fortunately for Tinubu and Apc, they still have 8 months to go before the election, I will advise him to encourage sanwo olu to start the 4th mainland bridge, I will also advise them to mobilise contractors to all the abandoned constructions sites all across the state, they should also start immediately giving soft loans to the market women and the vulnerables, I know some will say that is vote buying no it is not, it is better than waiting for the election day to give 10k why can't you give the 10k legally now, I will also advise the stakeholders to learn how to talk reasonably to the people to soften their heart but not with arrogance and rudeness.

With all what I have stated above if Tinubu and Apc take some of the advise I am sure it will be helpful in the coming election, and after winning the election all the positive programmes must not stop they will have to continue with them, so that the nigeria population will have no reason to be angry at any govt. Thank you

As for me, Osinbajo is my first candidate but since he lost, I will go for Tinubu, but that doesn't make me not to respect other people's opinion.

Guy, stop all this you dual citizen BS. You're embarrassing yourself. To even put it in your thread title, as if a badge of honour, indicates you think it is something impressive or that gives you some authority over others.

Abeg, before you do this again, try and spare a thought for those born in the West who have gone through most of their schooling and life there yet still support Tinubu.

That may allow you understand that the support for the man, which you don't have the democratic decency to accept, is just not the preserve of 'lowly' and 'unexposed' Nigerians who have never seen France and can never know as much as you do. "Mr.Dual citizen".

If I show you the caliber of folks in the UK diaspora Asiwaju support group, most with "dual citizenship" by birth or naturalisation, you'll realize you're even worse than a butterfly thinking itself a bird.

All this could have been avoided if you have any democratic essence in you, something France should have taught you, to just accept Tinubu is the choice of his fellow voting stakeholders and not your Osinbajo.

I did not see your bragging about Osinbajo prior to the APC Primaries, some posters hinted at, but your behaviour here makes it obvious you're a pompous, intolerant, undemocratic, opinionated and ignorant nobody who fancies himself the dogs bollocks.

• Rotate power to South to retain the presidency, Akeredolu warns APC

• Tinubu: I made Osinbajo VP, without me, Buhari would have lost in 2015

Three days to the decisive presidential primary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), all, including darts, warts and kitchen sink are being thrown in from all contending interests in the party.

Despite feeble voices of opposition to President Muhammadu Buhari’s plea to APC governors on Tuesday, indications have emerged that the President’s preferred candidate will emerge as the party’s standard-bearer at Monday’s special convention.

President Buhari had, shortly before leaving for a working visit to Spain, pleaded with the governors under the aegis of the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) to join hands with him to throw up an acceptable candidate that would inspire hope and lead the party to victory in next year’s elections.

At the meeting, President Buhari charged them to be prepared to throw their weights behind his preferred candidate, reminding them that they also have been choosing their successors without interference.

The Guardian learned that the development did not go down well with the governors, especially given that they had plans to support one of theirs to emerge as the presidential candidate of the party.

Sources within the party disclosed that the plot by some influential aspirants to mobilise forces against the President was anticipated, which led to the drafting of some core-Buhari loyalists from the North into the race.

The source confided in The Guardian that Jigawa State governor, Abubakar Badaru’s late entry, as well as Senate President Ahmad Lawan’s spirited campaign to win the party’s ticket are part of the President’s strategy to make Southern aspirants “see reason and conduct themselves in the national interest.”

He said: “Make no mistake about this, President Buhari wants to protect his integrity. He knows that the right thing is for the President to shift to the South in 2023, but the way and manner Southern aspirants are going about their ambition has shown him that some people are out to make him look bad in the eyes of Nigerians and history. We from the North honour our words and therefore, the attempt to make the President go back on his promise is being resisted.”

The source, a former military officer, disclosed that after a planned presidential dinner with the aspirants this weekend, those who have respect for the President would announce their withdrawal.

“The Commander-in-Chief would explain to the aspirants why the stability and unity of this country is paramount and go ahead to give reasons behind his choice of the preferred candidate. Those who oppose the President will go to the field to earn their shame,” he stated.

The APC chieftain remarked that the 894 (336 plus 558) delegates from Northeast and Northwest are intact for President Buhari’s candidate, adding that the moment the President makes his choice known, a substantial number of delegates from Southeast and North Central would fall in line.

“Before going to the Eagle Square on Monday, South/South and Southwest would have seen the futility of continuing any opposition to the President’s stand.”

From the delegates tally released by APC, while Southwest, which has seven aspirants boasts of 411 electors, South/South with four aspirants has 359 delegates.

Dismissing the calls on the President not to adopt consensus in choosing the APC presidential standard-bearer, the source disclosed that “what President Buhari has in mind is a compromise candidate and nothing to do with consensus.”

The party’s National Vice Chairman (Northwest), Dr. Salihu Lukman, had in a petition criticised the President’s decision to anoint a successor, stressing that such a step will potentially mobilise Nigerians against APC and thereby rubbish him.

But countering Lukman’s statement, a member of the NWC who pleaded anonymity, said “Lukman was merely echoing his master’s voice.”

The NWC member from one of the Northeast states said the majority of the members are in support of President Buhari’s efforts to ensure that the APC presidential ticket does not end up in the hands of the highest bidder.

He stated: “We all hold the President in high esteem. He is the leader of the party and if anybody wants to dictate to the leader, maybe that person wants to show his rebellion and rebellion has a price. The job of the leader is to show direction and that is what the President wants to do for us to be seen to be fair, equitable and just.”

CHAIRMAN of the Southern Governors’ Forum and Ondo State governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), has charged the party to work hard to retain power by rotating the presidency to the South.

In a short message via his personal Facebook page, yesterday, the governor re-echoed the position of his colleagues in the South that power should shift to the region. “APC must work to retain power. We must rotate power to retain power! Rotate to the South. Shikena,” the message read.

It was gathered yesterday that at least nine Northern governors are urging their colleagues to support APC to pick its presidential candidate from the South.

Ahead of the party’s convention in Abuja, 23 aspirants have been screened to participate in the primary, 19 of whom are from across the three geopolitical zones in the South. But a push has intensified for the party to look towards North in its choice since the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party last Saturday picked former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its own candidate.

Following the president’s Tuesday meeting, the governors have met twice but could not agree on who to recommend to the President for consideration and whether the party should consider nominating a candidate from the North.

APC has 14 governors in the North and eight in the South. While there is a consensus among the Southern governors that their region should produce President Buhari’s successor, five of their colleagues in the North think only a Northern candidate can defeat Atiku.

However, nine Northern governors had argued that it is not in the interest of national cohesion and social justice for the Presidency to remain in the North in 2023. The nine governors rooting for a power shift are Babagana Zulum of Borno, Simeon Lalong of Plateau, Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna and Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano.

Others are Aminu Masari of Katsina, Abubakar Bello of Niger, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa and Bello Matawalle of Zamfara.

However, the nine governors do not agree on who the choice from the South should be because there are many contending aspirations, though a third meeting is expected to hold on or before Saturday, the source said.

During the first meeting, the governors were said to have deliberated on the idea of having a consensus candidate proposed by the President.

However, the source said during the second meeting, suggestions were given on who should be put forward as the APC consensus candidate before the regional division marred the second meeting.

Governors from the South who are contesting the presidency are Prof Ben Ayade of Cross River State; his Ekiti State counterpart, Dr Kayode Fayemi and Ebonyi State governor, Dave Umahi. From the North, Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello and Jigawa State governor, Mohammed Badaru, are also in the race.

Asked about the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo and former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu, the source said: “Most of the argument was centred on a governor succeeding President Buhari for now. Southern governors are talking about power rotation.”

MEANWHILE, another fresh detail emerged yesterday that there is a tendency for President Buhari may pick his Vice President, Osinbajo, as his successor and also support him to emerge as the party’s flag bearer.

According to a presidential aide who was speaking with confidence yesterday, a political team, which comprises some prominent Yoruba leaders has been set up to persuade Tinubu to step down for Osinbajo and also accept him as the party’s consensus candidate.

Going further, he disclosed that while the President was talking to the 22 APC governors a few days ago, all indications revealed he was speaking in support of his deputy but he did not specifically mention his name.

“It was after then that a team was set up to dialogue with Tinubu to accept Osinbajo as the party’s consensus candidate while the APC governors are beginning to rally behind the Vice President, who is believed to fit the President’s description of his successor.”

As of last night, several of the APC governors were seen in the Villa meeting with the VP and the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, in what sources say is a move likely to result in a consensus candidate for the ruling party.

When contacted, a member of the Asiwaju team said that for them, the consensus is not on the card yet, hence they are still consulting and reaching out to delegates. They were in Oyo and Ogun states yesterday.

IN what may seem an unforced error, a viral video yesterday showed the party’s national leader, Tinubu opening up on how he led the political struggle that produced President Buhari. Tinubu also categorically said he nominated Osinbajo as the President’s running mate and ‘made’ Dapo Abiodun governor of Ogun State.

He spoke at the presidential lodge in Abeokuta, the state capital, while addressing APC delegates. Tinubu was in the company of Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his Kano counterpart, Umar Ganduje and former Borno State governor, Kasim Shettima.

The former Lagos governor said he made the revelations for the first time in Ogun, the home state of Osinbajo, one of his rivals for the APC ticket. He said Buhari had offered him a running mate ticket, but some blocs rose against him, fanning the ember of a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

He said when he was asked to submit three names for running mate, he pencilled down Yemi Cardoso, Wale Edun and Yemi Osinbajo, adding that he later settled for Osinbajo as running mate.

“You have not heard this from me before. This is the first place I am saying this,” Tinubu who addressed the delegates in Yoruba said.

Speaking on the President’s emergence, he said: “If not me that led the war front, President Buhari wouldn’t have emerged. He contested first, second and third times, but lost. He even said on television that he won’t contest again.

“But I went to his home in Katsina. I told him ‘you would contest and win, but you won’t joke with the matters of the Yoruba.’ Since he has emerged I have not been appointed Minister. I didn’t get a contract. This time, it’s Yoruba turn and in Yorubaland, it’s my tenure.”

Tinubu also said without God and him, Governor Abiodun would not have emerged in 2019. “Dapo that’s sitting down here, could he have become governor without me? We were at the stadium, they tore all his posters. Even the party flag, they didn’t want to hand it over to him, I was the one who brought it.

“If he wants to meet God at the right place, he must know that without God and me, he would not have become governor.”

In his remarks, Abiodun, who had earlier declared his support for Osinbajo’s candidature, refused to endorse Tinubu. He told Tinubu that delegates from the state would do “the right thing” at the convention.

Abiodun described Tinubu as a political warrior, serial winner and strategist.

FORMER governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, has been named the Director-General of the Ahmad Lawan Central Campaign Organisation. Lawan, who is also the Senate President, is one of the 23 screened presidential aspirants of the ruling party.

Kalu, who is also the Chief Whip of the Senate had shelved his ambition to contest for the presidential ticket on the excuse that it was not zoned to the Southeast, saying he would prefer to work with Lawan from the Northeast, a zone that has suffered a similar fate of marginalisation with Southeast.

PoliticsRe: Why Osinbajo Is The Best Bet For Apc. by Forzs: 8:43am On May 30, 2022
MikoB:
As it is, the only sure aspirant in the apc that will beat Atiku in the apc is Osinbajo, reason been that PYO is the only aspirant that is acceptable in all the six gro political zones in the country, you will be amazed that Osinbajo has more support in the middle belt more than any support he enjoys in his region of South West, also the work he has put in for many months have began to manifest, his candidate won in benue, oyo and adamawa for the governorship to the surprise of many, we that follow him were not surprised anyway. As for the primary coming up, Osinbajo is going to win, because the party knows he is the only that can guarantee victory, let me talk a little bit about other aspirants, and their weaknesses, Asiwaju no doubt is a big politician any day any time, but he miscalculated, he was hoping on southern candidates for both apc and pdp base on the clamour at that time, so he did not bother himself to allign much with the SS and SE also with the Christian communities of the Middle belt, his calculation was that once pdp gives her ticket to either a ss or se person, he will surely have an upper hand in his region of sw and also do very well in the nw and ne, which normally would have guaranteed victory for him but with Atiku as the pdp candidate now, Tinubu wil need new strategy.

Ahmed lawan candidacy wil not fly, because Buhari is about to finish his two term regime under apc, it is impossible for apc to give another northerner her ticket, also Lawan cannot defeat Atiku, one, because they are from the same region of NE and everyone knows Atiku is stronger than him in the NE, Atiku and Kwankwaso will do very well too in the NW, the NC wil be divided among the aspirants, so coming to the south, he will not do well at all no matter whom he picks as his running mate, I trust the south westerners they will not vote for him, the south east has Obi and the south south will be shared depending on whom Atiku picks as his running mate, so lawan will not fly.

Amaechi is another candidate that might do well if given the ticket but his problem is that he has no political base at home and his region, but if he has the support of the president he might be able to put up some fight, but that does not guarantee a victory against Atiku.

with due respect to all other aspirants I did not mention their names, even if Buhari endorses them and they pick up the ticket for the apc, they will not be able to defeat Atiku.

Osinbajo is the only candidate, that will win very well in SW, and also likely win the SS and not do badly in the SE, he will win in the North Central, he will not do badly in the North East because of some Christian population there, he will not do badly in the North West because apc controls most states there and also because if Buhari, so in all, Osinbajo will likely win 4 regions, either will like it or not, religion and ethinicty still play a big part in our politics in nigeria, and I guess these are going to be of advantage to Osinbajo, no wonder he is a movement in the cbhtistain dominated states of plateau, benue, Taraba etc.
Correct perspective Boss.
Politics2023: APC Chieftains Finger Osinbajo As Party’s Best Bet by Forzs(op): 7:50am On May 30, 2022
Osinbajo interacts with APC delegates in Ilorin
WITH the emergence of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the presidential standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, some chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, are pointing at Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as the best bet for the APC.

After the rescheduling of the APC presidential primaries for June 6 and 7, an informed party source close to the party executives said: “There was a meeting in Abuja with some super delegates and party stakeholders where it was deliberated that with all the facts and statistics on ground, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is the best bet for the APC to defeat the PDP in the general elections. “

He continued: “In fact there were those at the meeting who felt the VP is actually the only option if APC won’t risk losing the presidency.

READ ALSO: Yemi Osinbajo: The beckoning of a new era
“Some media reports had claimed that some state delegates have expressed the view that the power of the people behind Osinbajo is robust, but warned that there are some forces scheming to truncate it. What many people are yet to realise is that so many things are happening at the same time within the party.”

According to Femi Adesina, Buhari’s spokesperson, the President will ensure “there is a free, fair and credible election; that nobody would come to use money and resources to bamboozle his way into the leadership of the country.”

The APC chieftain said more than just giving us free and fair elections, ensuring that moneybags and prebendal lords don’t fly the party’s flags in 2023 is critical. The collective fortunes of Nigerians which the Buhari-led administration has worked hard to build and protect in the last seven years must not go to the dogs.

“Buhari’s legacy will depend on his demonstration of full commitment to free and credible elections and party primaries.

“The starting point is who he is going to be supporting in the build-up to the forthcoming party primaries. As APC leader, he must ensure that he hands over the flag of the party to someone who imbibes his virtues of integrity, hard work, and patriotism.

“Coming back to the issue of the negotiation that led to the extension, I have it on good authority that the candidate the negotiation favoured is Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. This is because PDP will win the general elections if any other aspirant is put forward in APC besides Osinbajo.”

PoliticsBuhari, Osinbajo Meet As President Departs For AU Meeting by Forzs(op): 5:07pm On May 26, 2022
President Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday, held a meeting with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo shortly before the former departed for the African Union (AU) meeting in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

From May 25 to 28, the AU is hosting two summits in Malabo — the ‘Extraordinary Humanitarian Summit and Pledging Conference’, as well as the ‘Extraordinary Summit on Unconstitutional Changes of Government in Africa’.

The meeting between Buhari and Osinbajo, which held at the president’s office, comes amid preparations for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary scheduled to hold from May 29 to 30,

While there isn’t yet official information on what was discussed during the meeting, TheCable understands that part of the discussions focused on the forthcoming presidential primary.

According to sources, Buhari is expected back in the country on the eve of the APC presidential primary.

Although it isn’t yet clear if Osinbajo — an APC presidential hopeful — spoke with the president on his recent consultations with party delegates and stakeholders across the country, a source said there was a possibility that the matter also formed part of the discussions.

Meanwhile, Buhari is yet to reveal who he would prefer as his successor, but according to sources, “it’s very unlikely that the VP would have gotten in the race without the backing of his principal.”

PoliticsAdamu Speaks On Consensus Option For The Most Credible Aspirant. by Forzs(op): 9:47am On May 26, 2022
AHEAD of its presidential convention scheduled to hold on Sunday and Monday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee (NWC) may have foreclosed composition of screening committee for its 28 presidential aspirants.

The national chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, disclosed this on Wednesday, while speaking with select Hausa service media organisations.

Adamu’s disclosure confirmed the insinuation that the APC NWC has decided not to conduct screening of the aspirants.

The party has twice shelved the composition and inauguration of screening and appeal panels for presidential aspirants.

Adamu also dropped the hint that the most credible aspirants could be pronounced as the consensus candidate after a rigorous evaluation.

Asked by newsmen if the presidential aspirant would emerge the same manner he was pronounced as consensus candidate for the office of national chairman, he said, “There is no truth in that because the chairmanship seat is not the same as that of the presidency of the country. You can’t even compare the two. That question does not arise.

“However, the party has laid down its rules and regulations for the aspirants. We would scrutinise all of them based on our guidelines to be sure we pick the right candidate for the party.”

By virtue of Section 84(9) of the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended), “A political party that adopts a consensus candidate shall secure the written consent of all cleared aspirants for the position, indicating their voluntary withdrawal from the race and their endorsement of the consensus candidate.”

Out of the 28 aspirants that actually picked the expression of interest and nomination forms, five withdrew, leaving the ticket open to 23.

The APC national chairman justified the high number of aspirants on the fact that the APC is the ruling party in the country.

“You don’t know the reason? It’s because that is where those that matter in the country are. It didn’t start today. We are the government in power today. In spite of all the insults, the APC has advantages far ahead of other parties. Today, the APC is the biggest party in Nigeria.

“It’s natural that the APC will attract Nigerians than any other party. This is where it is happening. Any right-thinking politician would naturally gravitate towards the APC.

“Of course, we have our problems but today, we are the cynosure of all Nigerians and I am hopeful, God willing, we will retain power at the general election.” Asked for the position of the party on zoning, the APC national chairman said it would be discussed after the screening of aspirants.

“We have not produced our candidate for the presidency yet. We have to screen the aspirants to know the way forward. We have aspirants from across the country in the race. We will take the decision when we get there.”

The former Nasarawa State governor dismissed insinuation that the high number of aspirants was instigated to create confusion and ensure tenure extension for President Muhammadu Buhari.

“You can’t stop our party stalwarts from contesting election or aspiring for the presidency. It is their rights and we are happy for them. There is nothing wrong for anybody aspiring for the exalted seat of the presidency.

“We have 28 aspirants for the presidential ticket and everybody knows that all of them cannot get the ticket. If it’s God wish, they all can even be president of the country one after the other. Ours is to ensure justice in the choice of who emerges candidate of the party. That does not mean we are perfect. But we pray we do the right thing.”
