Very sensible post from an intelligent person. With just one post, you have knocked out the cursed useless vagabond called mktinsight. Good job cheesy

PROUDIGBO:
Dude, you're not making sense! Aside the fact you haven't gone out with a hard-hat, safety boots and a measuring tape to take down exact measurements, it stands to reason that a new airport like this should start off with a manageable sized terminal building so scarce funds could be targeted at other areas of the project necessary for the airport to function maximally and fulfill accepted global safety and operational standards.

If the terminal building would be busy to the extent you imply by your post, then it means the airport would be viable enough and able to self-fund the construction of a Terminal-2 within the next few years!

Hopeless quack engineer from hell. You couldn't even engineer your miserable worthless useless life. cheesy

[s]
mktinsight:
I am an engineer. I estimate the size of the terminals based on the structural steel skeleton.
The capacity of an airport is correlated to the size of the terminal, number of gates not the runway. Having the longest runway means nothing if your terminal cannot handle an A380 Airbus which carries around 800 passengers. Heathrow has only 2 runways but 4 gigantic terminals. Heathrows famous terminal 5 is over 350,000 square meters or 100 times the size of Umueri Airport. Go and see the nightmare at Enugu old terminal when just people are going to board the Ethiopian 777 which carries 360 passengers. The terminal hall can barely contain 300 people and that doesn't include relations and friends. One gate means you can only have one flight leaving every 2 hours. A terminal like this is built for an airport that will see smaller planes like a 737 and at most 1 plane leaving or arriving every couple hours. An airport like this can do 1,000 passengers daily or 365,000 yearly. Such low capacity means the Anambra government will have to dig into its pockets to fund the costs of maintenance and the huge Capex spent.

mktinsight:
Sorry for you. This is a small local airport with a terminal building measuring around 3,000 sq meters with the arrival/departure hall less than 1,000 square meters which can contain around 200-300 people at best or the size of 1 Boeing 737 flight at a time. This is roughly the same size as the old Enugu Akanu Ibiam airport or the Asaba Airport. This means that such an airport at best can handle at most 5 such flights per day or around 1,500 passengers per day. Like I have told you before, go and finish school baboon.

Anambra has the best road networks at least in SE region. Besides roads there are other things that forms part of overall infrastructures like airport, ICC, stadium, flyover, bridges, roads, etc., Obiano has done all of these and by the time he completes the international airport, he would stand out as the best governor out of the region since 1999.

4:43 Its actually called Akpaka GRA its an estate. Its unfortunate that their roads are dusty, sandy, bumpy. But they have a good road network. Their roads are wide unlike many estates in Lagos where you have tiny roads where the planners do not give large enough roads, considering there should be pedestrain walkways before the drainage proper. The roads are wide enough if they would be constructed by the Governor. So some of the Landlords did not want to appear on camera. They said the ex-Governor Peter Obi came here and they consulted him about constructing the road for them and he showed willingness to do it. At a time he even gave conditions. QHe gave them a bill that each landlord will pay 750,000 naira for C of O and support for government to come and build the roads. But unfortunately after spending 8 years in power as a governor of Anambra he didnt build the roads for them. Then towards the end of his tenure, the time he was campaigning for the current governor they came here together, they campaigned and promised to build the road. They even brought a building contractor. The contractor showed the governor has given a check of 100 million naira as an advance to start work. But unfortunately after the elections the contractor came back and said that the check bounced. Politicians and magic. He said they did not know what to do because they had committed their own money. They brought sand, moved their equipment and other stuff. Eventually the contractor had to leave the estate and they are stuck with their dusty roads

Rocksvibes234:
Don't even mention Abuja because upto now Anambra has more population, etc than Abuja, it's only in infrastructural development that Abuja surpassed Anambra

As of 19's they all have less than 4 - 5million populations, but Anambra of now has has more 11, million population
As of then despite being the largest city and capital of Nigeria and for Kano, they don't control the control the economic activities Anambra of now is controlling, hope you know
Now Anambra state has surpassed many states in commerce even Lagos, that's why Anambra has the largest commercial activities in Nigeria and west africa.
How about other states like Enugu, Owerri, pH etc yunno they don't has anything to show as of then.

The reason I asked This question is because someone is saying that Anambra don't have anything to show to build an airport which the person knows that Anambra of now is better than Lagos and Kano of 19's, even Anambra has surpassed Kano in many angles

Narrow poorly constructured roads everywhere. hope the next governor of the state will take the cities seriously and develop them for the 21st century. What do I mean?AWKA 1) Decongest Zik Avenue. Relocate Eke-Awka out of its present location. Remove the nonsense police blockage on upper road before Governor's lodge. Enforce the no-parking law on Zik Avenue.2) Build a proper Main Business district Starting from St Paul University to ICC with pavements, covered gutters, traffic lights, and tarred cross roads for off-street parking. 3) Build a proper Government district centered around the Secretariat/Ekwueme Square area and relocate all offices (Lands, ASUDEB, Works, Tax) there. 4) Relocate and rebuild Customary Court and Magistrate Court near the High Court. ) Relocate Governor's Lodge away from Amawbia to the building near Secretariat6) Build Flyover at Regina Caeli - Old INEC Road7) Build Flyover between Agu-Awka to Esther Obiakor at Juhel junction
) Build clean paved Large Bus Terminal with amenities and force all inter-state buses to pick up/drop passengers there (Eastern Mass, TRACAS, Good is God, etc) there.9) Phase out Keke and mini-shuttles by 2022. Organize franchised minimum 20 seater commuter buses with scheduled routes and stops that run along major city roads10) Expand the Awka Stadium land into a Sports, Recreational & Parks Center with Tennis Courts, Basketball Courts, Volleyball Sandpit, Childrens playpen, Changing rooms, and a walking trail.11) Tar all streets in the ancient town of Awka

Abuja was nothing in 1996 when I visited. It had one

road and that was all. But FGN pumped money into infrastructure and now it is the best planned city in Nigeria with wide roads, pavements and tarred residential districtrs.Awka was practically a collection of villages when it became the state capital. Zik Avenue was known as "ezi oyibo" when it was built by the colonialist and has largely remained almost exactly the same despite over 20 years of state hood. The state government has done little for town planning. The business district on Zik Avenue is a dump with a market that anyone with sense would have relocated to Agu Awka long ago. There is poor connecting infrastructure between the old town, the government zone and the university. Successive governors spend their budgets bizarrely building roads to villages than wide roads in cities. Awka has only one major dual lane street in a city of 500,000.
Then you look at Onitsha the city of markets. You would think that by now we would have progressed to beautifying those billion naira markets and expanding the roads leading to them. That the great Iweka street would be restored to its former glory. But no, we continue pandering to the lowest denominator. Narrow roads, shops on top of gutter, filth inside gutters, Keke causing a nuisance. 2021.Wake up Ndi Anambra. Other countries in Africa are building their cities. Fixing transport systems, widening roads, transforming business zones. They are not playing village politics.Happy New Year to all.

Contrary to what you are claiming, work was going on before 2015 buhari stopped it for 2 years after coming into power

funding was never an issue.JB would have built it then tolled it to recover their money

https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/159540-apc-igbo-group-rage-suspension-second-niger-bridge-contract.html

That's how the question of tolling it came about. Now that it's being funded with Abacha loot etc, why is it still being tolled ?

Let me point out that by 2015, the fed government had paid their counterpart fund to the project.
Go to Julius Berger's site, you would see pics of work from 2014-2015.It isn't hidden.

Yes it's good that this project even after a 2 year delay has gathered momentum, but I believe it isn't because of this present administrations love for the East.

And oh about the Enugu airport, why is a paltry sum of 2 billion Naira still holding the completion of the International terminal of the airport? most especially since same project in every other part of Nigeria has been completed.

yes the did goog revamping the runway, but have you noticed that Enugu international airport isn't part of the regional airport concessioning roadmap in the country?

why do you think our governor's got tired of the politics behind the Enugu airport and began building their own airports ?

I won't be surprised that noteworthy continental carrier's would land in the Anambra airport before that of Enugu

Second Niger Bridge was conceived as a PPP under Obasanjo who signed the contract in 2007 but never funded it. Goodluck inherited the project from yaradua and promised to complete it by 2015 but only started the dredging and piling 1 year before elections budgeting less than 10b for the entire project. So much for Ebele Azikiwe. As for Enugu airport it is not the only terminal not completed. The Lagos terminal has not been completed either. It is also like the Port Harcourt airport one that lacks a fence and one where developers have encroached on its air side space. These issues are what they are addressing now. As for SE building a large number of state airports it does not help us. One major regional airport has more value than 5 small airports that lack world class infrastructure. The entire South East has the same population as Ghana with more traveller's and airports yet doesn't boast a single airport like Kotoka because we are the masters of one man business and lack the ability to collaborate on grand projects.

PPP has failed on 2nd Niger Bridge, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway—Fasholay Business Hilights On Jan 24, 2018Babatunde Fashola explaining issues on the go to President Buhari and Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi recently.Considering what can best be described as observed cold feet of supposed investors in the development of several key infrastructure projects across the country including the 2nd Niger Bridge construction and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway expansion, the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Barr. Babatunde Fashola, on Tuesday, made it clear before the House of Representatives Committee on Works, that PPP is dead.Accordingly, he argued that for the two key projects to see the light of the day, the Federal Government must take full control of the multibillion naira projects now or allow them to become abandoned projects.
He noted further that the highly celebrated Public Private Partnership (PPP) option on both schemes will only continue to delay the projects, much as it appears attractive to core investors.Business Hilights recalls that the Second Niger Bridge had two groups of core investors according to an existing arrangement prepared by the last administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.By that arrangement, whereas the federal government will foot about 20 per cent of the cost, both Anambra and Delta States’ government will contribute 40 per cent while the remaining 40 per cent will come from corporate investors which the government had refused to make public. However, towards the end of the former Governor Peter Obi administration in Anabmra, he came out to reject the PPP arrangement, saying that as the economic situation appears, Anambra can no longer foot the 20 per cent out of the 40 per cent to be contributed alongside with Delta State government.t is also on record that the Delta State government followed Anambra State government to pull out of the 2nd Niger Bridge development PPP agreement citing similar reasons.urther investigations by Business Hilights South East Bureau Chief showed that the pull out of the two states also raise confidence crisis in the minds of the veiled corporate investors on the bridge, thus leaving the construction expenditure on the shoulders of the federal government till now.t would also be recalled that the key attraction for the corporate investors was the clause of tolling the bridge and road, but the emerging assumption of full responsibility by the federal government may definitely collapse the planned tolling as it would be an issue of marginalization if after building infrastructure across the federation with commonwealth, some will be tolled while others will be free.

Goodluck had 5 years to complete second Niger Bridge. In 2015 less than 2% of work on the bridge had happened. It was structured as a PPP project and the FGN was to contribute just 20% with the rest raised by private investors. As it was NSIA had not found any investors willing to fund it. t was Fashola as Minister of Works who got the FGN to fund the entire project which is when real work started and is why it is today at over 50% completion. As owner of the bridge the FGN cannot toll it not unless it tolls other bridges and expressways in the country. This is still being debated because second niger bridge is in the same boat as Lagos Ibadan expressway which is also a PPP project taken over by government that originally was to be tolled. As for Enugu airport, Hadi Sirika was very right about shutting down a runway that was a disaster waiting to happen. Safety is the first concern of aviation. Of course people questioned why it was taking so long to reopen and its because of budgetary problems that happened in the wake of covid 19 with oil prices collapsing. I do not know Sirika from Adam but he made the right call to get things right rather than do what is politically correct. I have a British classmate who was a corporate jet pilot and he told me that the Abuja, Enugu and Asaba runways were some of the worst he had landed in while flying in Nigeria between2010014.https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2016/05/20/airport-runways-as-death-traps/https://m.guardian.ng/news/enugu-airport-is-unsafe-south-east-governors-warn/

Bastardwike please respond to this. He made a post full of certainty, now respond to him, at least you know as a former mod here. Aba and Owerri are siamese twins when it comes to bad roads.

Afam4eva:
There have been talks about how past and present Imo governors have developed only Owerri in detriment to Orlu and Okigwe. While that is true, it's not only peculiar to Imo state. it is a Nigerian problem. The issue is just that even the Owerri that they have focused on doesn't have much to show for it. The city currently has some of the worst roads in Nigeria even though some of these roads were done not to long ago
. So, the problem here in lack of quality infrastructure rather than the lack of it. That's why sometimes, it's difficult to rate Rochas's tenure as governor because even though he built a lot of things, they were substandard and fell apart as soon as they were built.

It is also pertinent to note that throughout the country, apart from Lagos owing to it's conurbation attribute, most states do not do much outside the state capital. Why do you think we keep complaining about how bad the roads are in Aba? It;s simply because it's not the capital of Abia state. If it was an Abia problem then Umuahia roads would have been just as bad as that of Aba but governors try to make the state capital look decent since that where they will be receiving visitors from.
