Travel › Re: How To Make It As A Nigerian In America In 2014 by frank94(m): 12:52pm On Jan 04, 2016 |
Bro I really need a genuine advise on this,my uncle wants to buy a property(house) in texas usa,and wants to relocate their with his kids and wife, what do you think about it,based on visa issues and survival over their thanks. jakaiso: Its Easy to Succeed in America For so long-I have heard about how difficlult it is for Nigerians and black people to succed in America. With evidence I have come to the conclusion that this is actually the opposite. Indeed a new book by Yale law professor Amy Chua lists Nigerians amongst 7 other culural groups as those most likely to succeed in America-this has only confirmed my observations.
I have lived in Nigeria, the UK, Ghana and been to other several countries-but I can tell you that IT IS EASY TO SUCCEED IN AMERICA. By success of course I mean- the ability to prosper financially and earn enough money to allow you to live comfortably. Bros-if you are planning to come to America-please come, abeg come...there is milk and honey flowing here!
Dont get me wrong-you can succeed in Nigeria as well-but if your dream is to come to America-please come. All you need to do is to follow some simple rules-and success is yours. Forget about all the so called bad things you hear happening in America-its less than 0.00001% of life in America and bad things happen every where. White people are not going to go make life difficult for you. Just obey the rules (and I know sometimes Nigerians find it diccult to obey rules), work smart, not just hard, save money and THINK.
RACISM You might have heard that blacks are discriminanted against here. The truth is that sectionalism whether it be racism, tribalism, neoptisim occurs everywhere in the world. There are Ibos who hate Yorubas and Yorubas who hate Hausas and Hausas who hate Ijaws and Ijaws who hate Oginis. There are even Ibadan people who hate Ijebu people (yet there are both Yoruba). In Anambra-there are two communities- both speaking the same languagae who have been at war with each othere for decades-with many lives lost.
THINGS TO NOTE
BEFORE YOU COME 1)Education is good-but regardless-you will still have to go back to school. Aquire skills in carpentary, mechanic, plumbing, computer repair, electrical repairs or any other hands on skills. These are things that we look down on in Nigeria. But in Yankee-these guys earn up to $100 an hour. The carpentar who is going to repair my door wants me to pay him $160 for labour for a 30 minute job! Combine this with your job and you can earn mega bucks.
2) Open a GT or an other bank account that gives you a mastercard-this will help you when you start sending things home to sell -so that you can get your money easily.
IF YOU COME WITH A SHORT VISA AND OVERSTAY I dont advise anyone to do this. I know a popular musician who came here in the 90s-and is now stuck here. It can be difficult.
IF YOU COME WITH AN IMMIGRANT VISA /OR WORK VISA
1) Get a job. Get a job. Get a job. Dont make the mistake some like me who were self employed in Nigeria made. Get a job. There are jobs in America-ignore the stats. There may not be office jobs-but there are jobs. Target states with low unemployment like Minneosta-currently about 4 %! With a school cert from Nigeria-you can get an entry job with pay of like $8 to $12 an hour. Walmart will pay you like $8 an hour-while Boston Scientific temp job will pay you like $10 an hour. With overtime-you can make as much as $500 to $700 a week-thats up to $2000 a month. Offer to do overtime-work yourself bro. Nursing seems to be the easiest way to good pay these days. With a 2 week course-you can be on track and within 2 years -you can be an RN -earning $35 to $50 an hour and working just 3 days a week (12 hours a day). Giving you days to work over time or another job. I know many Nigerian Nurses earning $5000 to $8000 a month. Then go ahead and get a bachelor degree and Masters. And this is for men too.
2) Live below your income. Ignore the offers to buy new gadgets or iphones-discipline yourself and save at least 30% of your income. Forget about sending money to ANYONE in Naija for your first year or maybe your first few years. DOnt be like me-sending money to people who are not even hungry. Its better to send them 200,000 naira in 5 years time then $100 now (with them telling you that its too small!)
3) Get a second job if possible-even if its 10 hours a week. There are many of them-especially at the stores or schools.
4) Go to school-get a degree-if you plan to work all your life-it will make the difference in what you earn.
5) Start a small business. The easiest to start-is simple buying and selling to Nigeria. Electronics, clothes, books, computers, phones etc. $300 from your paycheck used to buy some items every month and shipped to Nigeria can be turned into $1000. I have done it before and still do it. With consistency -you can earn more from this then your paycheck.
6) Acceralate your credit status. The American life is made easier with the credit system. Its not an issue of borrowing money. Without a credit report and credit score, there are many things you cannot do-including renting an apartment in some places, buying a house and even getting a job these days. It takes about 2 years for the average immigrant to qualify for credit-but you can accelerate this process. Within your first month -apply for and get 1 or 2 secured credit cards-these are cards which you place a deposit to get. There is 100% approval on these cards as its your money. For example the Capital One Card only requires $99-and you get the card with $99 to $200 on it. Your aim is to make sure that on your statement 80% of the money is still on it. You mustnt leave all the money there-YOU HAVE TO SPEND SOME. What I did was to allocate the card to a specific bill-maybe your phone bill or gas bill (petrol). Just make sure that on a $200 card for example-you have $160 there on the statement day. If you do this for 6 months to a year on two cards and combine this with a telephone bill or small car note -you can move your credit score from non existent to 700 in a year and 750 in 2 years. Within a year-you will start getting credit card offers of $1000 to $5000 or more. By your 2nd to 3rd year-you can use this credit score to buy a house/get up to $100,000 personal loan or more. The average American uses their credit to buy clothes, go on vacations, pay bills. Use your credit for business-so that you can make money from it. I see no sense in borrowing money to eat or buy clothes.
7) Buy a House and turn it into Money-when I was in University in Nigeria-I was reading Ovation maagzine and in the edition-I saw pictures of Waisu Ayindes (KWAM 1-the Fuji muscian) opulent house in Cananda or USA-I cant remember. They said it was worth about N100 million (that was way back in 1996). I was like wow-this guy has made it o! The first day I arrived in America -one of the first things i noticed was how the houses looked so much the one I had seen back in 1996 in Ovation. I later came to realise that even a messenger can own a 50 million naira house in America. Have a job with moderate income and good credit-and the house is yours. The secret is the mortagage. It was very easy before 2008-when ANYONE could buy a house, with the 2008 crisis-its a bit more difficult and you need at times up to 10% down payment. But the point is-buy a house and plan to sell it within a year or 2 or use it for collateral. If you buy a house for $160,000 -you can sell it for up to $200,000 in a few years-the $40,000 is yours. In some areas-it could be more. Or rather than sell-get a loan on the house (THAT IS IF YOU HAVE A SOUND BUSINESS TO PUT IT INTO) and make profit on the money.
Obey The Law Dont drive without a liencse. Dont over speed. If you obey the law-you are 99.9% sure of not getting into trouble. Bad things sometimes happen to 'good people' and not just black people. Dont be driving and smoking hemp or driving while drunk or beating up your wife of girlfriend.
9) Become a Citizen If you come here with a migrant visa-you can be a citizen in a few years and you can still keep your Nigerian citizenship.
America is still the greatest country in the world. The things we struggle for in Nigeria are taken for granted here. Buying a car or cars, buying a house etc. Armed robbers are not holding your estate hostage going from house to house, policemen are not waiting for you on the road, NEPA is not taking off the light at will,a rich man is not slapping your face and telling you to do your worst, you dont need connections to get a job......
I love Nigeria and one day I pray that Nigeria gets there-but if you can, come to YANKEE-make your money and go back if you must. The one thing we need in Nigeria is order-if order comes, then every other thing will fall in place-the police, light, good roads, true democracy, justice , economic boom for all. |

Since he is going take care of u y booking a hostel ? Assuming d questions go lyk that. Is not complicating issues.I don't if u understand me? Thanks for help so far Bro you have to be smart when dealing with immigration at POE.you have 2 keep all your documents ready with you,and make sure you have someone 2 receive you to back up ur Invitation the person may be your brother or family relation or friend.if you dont have someone 2 receive you, just pay for hotel 2 to 3 nights as were you will stay.then hold the hotel voucher as evidence that you paid and show the immigration if they ask for it at the POE.make sure your return ticket is 2weeks.YOUR BTA sould be 3,000$ and above to convince the immigration that you are financially capable to stay at TT for 2weeks.after reaching all this requirements, der is still chances 4 deportation.Thats why i prefer you go with invitation so that some one will receive you and speak for you. |

The invitation letter should be written by a trinidad and tobago citizen who has a job or a nigerian living and working legally at trinidad and tobago.you dont need embassy or immigration to approve the invitation letter.let the person write and put his or her details in the body of the letter including his job and ID No,and scan to you.in some occasion, the immigration at the POE at piarco int airport trinidad may need the person that write the invitation for you,to come 2 D airport for some interview, before they stamp you in.That interview is to make sure that the person inviting you is genuine and can take care of you.you with the visa now or about to apply? |

And from the way you talk is like you are doing well or maybe you are hard working. So how are you coping?do you now have their papers?how ddi you managed to secure a permit withing one year?you seem like a determined and wise guy.how much do they pay those working as securities or construction wokers?do they pay per hour and in what currency do they pay? Frank you are like a brother we have over there please tell us all these sincerely there is no shame in it cause we are all in the same condition,we must survive..amen im studying and working as a pharmacy assistant in a drug store.so im not fully into job.for security, you can get a job for 15 trinidad and tobago dollars per hour and you will work for 12 hours a day or you can work more than 12 hours a day depends on your strength.some security companies pay their workers every 2weeks some pay monthly.for construction, the salary is 1000 TTD every week.for issue of papers you have to marry a trinidad and tobago citizen whether on contract or real marriage for you to fix your self.Another option is through work permit or student visa.in all this, you have to pay a bond fee of 550000naira to start any of this options.trinidad and tobago is not an easy country to survive for newbies unless you are ready to suffer and endure to achieve progress at last |

REALKINGSON: I understand where you're coming from but believe you me, you don't do this in a developed country. Air maroc says you can board their flight to brazil without a transit visa and from there you can board any flight to your final destination. You buys the flight ticket, hoping to board after all necessary arrangements and appointments but when you gets to the airport to board, Air Maroc says you cant board again that you needs a transit visa without a prior notice. You goes and get the transit visa, rescheduled your flight, make another appointments but on your getting to board again Air Maroc says you no longer need to present just a transit visa but a brazil entry visa. All these changes within two weeks and without any prior notice. True, there are other airlines that can take me to brazil with no hassles like South african airways and Ethiopian airways but I have already bought the ticket from air Maroc and according to them, my ticket is non refundable. The law is never from the brazilian immigration. I called the embassy and they highly frowned at the demands by Air Maroc.I also verified form Ethiopian airways and they told me they still fly nigerians to brazil even without a transit visa. The brazilian consulate gave me a letter with her signature in it, yet the airline rejects the letter and demands I gets a brazil entry visa stamped on my passport. Why would I go through all the hassles to get a brazilian tourist visa just to transit for just 4 hours in Sao Paulo? This airline should pay damages if they did not respond, sue them to court with authentic evidence that they cant denie. But did you seek for advice here before booking that nonsense flight,I blame you so much for making such a mistske, you see ethiopian air,South african airline and turkish air that fly to Brazil 24 hours everyday without transit visa and you left them and went to nonsense airmaroc that can't even stand the wind when it start blowing.may be you are looking for cheap flight and see what you have done to your self.I advice Nigerians that are coming to south America and carribean islands without transit visa to fly any of the 3 airlines I mentioned to Brazil and connect with copa airline or any other airline to your destination. If you go book airmaroc or Ugandan air or Egypt air na you sabiooo |

Yes the PTA is different from bond fee.bond is compulsory if you want to live here.their is no other way of securing work permit only the company that employ you would do the work permit for you.for documents that would grant you visa, refer to TT embassy at abuja for that.then to pass the POE without much problem, refer back to my last post here and peruse it |

Hold enough bta starting from 2000usd,tell the immigration officer at the port of entry you just come to stay 2weeks,if he ask more question, tell him you have business you are managing in nigeria.try and find some one who will pay for 3nights at the hotel for you or you pay through credit card.dont make reservation try and pay because they would call the hotel in your face to confirm whether you payed. If they ask you why you paid 3 nights, tell the immigration officer that you payed 3 night because if you find the hotel not to your standard you can easily move to another hotel.if they ask you whether you have any friend or relation at Trinidad and Tobago you just know what you will ans them, you said you have friend here right? You might be lucky to pass through poe without all this stress. Why I'm been specific is because port of entry here is not easy to pass, they are very good in deporting citizens of country with low economy. They believe most of them come here with idea of tourism and they end up working with intention of not going back.2nd option,Find who will send you invitation letter and the person must be a citizen of trinidad and Tobago or a foreigner that has his papers fixed without issues to be on the safe side. The person that send you that invitation will come to the airport the day you arrive here to pick you.He or she will discuss with immigration.but so far thats the best option.for work,(construction) you can come here today and start construction work tomorrow, here work is not an issue, but mind you all those jobs are below minimum wage.but its still something when you convert to our poor naira.if you are to buy ticket be very careful on the agent you are dealing with to avoid problems,BC if the agent book with fake credit card, your journey will end in Brazil.so look well before you commit that hard earned money |
Travel › Re: Socail Visit Visa To Trinindad And Tobago. by frank94(op): 4:14am On Mar 24, 2015 |
You only pay the bond if you are coming here to live. Tourist Dont pay bond.it depends on the type of visa you are applying for.dont implicate issues at their embassy,if you are coming here as a tourist or social visit with intention of staying here, better you hold the 550k for bond or keep it back in Nigeria.when you now get married or lucky to get company that will help you on work permit, you can ask your people to send the 550k,so that you can pay the bond.you can collect your bond money back if you are ready to leave the country without haveing anything to do with residency or when you must have gotten your permanent residence in 4 or before 4 years time.you can request for your bond money from immigration.if you commit any crime before the four years or break TT law, which is liable for deportation, immigration will use the bond money to buy your ticket back to Nigeria.Thats the reason for paying bond |

I Dont know.you know what you are coming here for.so try and know how you will fix your self.if your lucky to get the visa and come here, be very careful of your friends you know here because they will set you up and finish your bta money.@lillaowow if someone find a good trini lady and decide to marry her,is it a crime? And mind you,utt is very good for science programmes in TT,their are some courses they offer in oil exploration and maritime which university of west indies do not offer. The cost of tuition fee in Uwi is so much, ordinary MSC program here 1.7mill to 2.2mill excluding accommodation and feeding.its only favourable to indigens of trinidad and Tobago and caricom contributing countries.even the Uwi is not one of the ivy league schools but they high their tuition fee to scare foreigners away.so utt is good for science programmes and also affordable. |

The only options left for you with visitors visa, is that if you come here, you marry a trinidad woman and start filing your residence at the immigration office. Then with that, you are free to walk and work without the fear of immigration or police.as its done in states, the woman you will marry will be on contract which you will be paying her until your papers are fixed after 3 to 4 years.Another option,if your lucky,a company can help you on work permit which is very hard for it to happen.also make sure you hold your 550k for bond which immigration always demand for whether you are married or fixing your papers with work permit.so its better you get 1 year visa, but if its not possible try the 3 months visa and do as i said if you are really willing to come.but mind you,Trinidad and Tobago is hard to survive, the standard of living here is too high and also you must be hard working for you to survive here.for issue of flight, its better if you have someone here to book the flight for you, nigerian flight agents are ingrates they high the price of ticket so much.from Lagos nig to port of Spain trinidad and Tobago via Brazil with return ticket is around 410k to 480k.but with transit visa to Amsterdam or england it would cost 310k to 370k that's rough estimate of the price of ticket.Bro check your self very well to know whether this actually what you want, spending this money to come to trinidad and work for below minimum wage,at the end of the month, you could get 1000 usd,but after accomodation feeding and transport you may not have nothing to count for.so think twice why not venture into business or thinkout something on how to multiply that money through legit something in nigeria, than giving this money to agent and pilot to bring you here to work for below minimum wage.trinidad is good, but if you are hard working and remove your eyes from entertainments and women also pray to god thats the only options for you to make it here |
