Residents of a community in the north-west Nigerian state of Katsina say a Nigerian military jet has fired a missile on civilians while it was supposed to be targeting armed gangs.

At least one person was killed and more than a dozen others are being treated in a hospital, local MP Abduljalal Haruna Runka told the BBC.

The news comes a day after gunmen attacked the advance security team of President Muhammadu Buhari, who was due to travel to the state to celebrate the festival of Eid this weekend.

The Nigerian military has not yet commentated on the alleged attack on civilians.


But in an earlier statement it said its aircraft had attacked two camps where those it described as “terrorists”’ were hiding near some villages in the same area.

In recent years, there have been a number of cases of Nigerian military aircraft mistakenly hitting civilians during their operations against members of armed groups – who often hide in civilian areas.

The most infamous was the killing of more than 100 civilians and aid workers at a camp for displaced people near the border with Cameroon in 2017.

A yet-to-be-identified group of gunmen has reportedly attacked the convoy of Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari's team in Katsina, Nigeria.

Reports have it that the convoy had gone ahead of the President's trip to his Daura hometown to celebrate the Eid-ul-Adha Muslim festival this weekend when the unknown gunmen opened fire on them.

The convoy was made up of security guards, protocol and media officers, where two persons sustained injuries from the attack.

A statement from the presidency confirmed the attack and detailed how the convoy was ambushed on their way to Daura.

Two young women decided to settle their scores over who has the right to be the bonafide property of the man they are both dating.

Information gathered by our outfit has it that over 50 children have been rescued from underground area of Ondo state.


Reports added that the kids who were kept underground of the church for trafficking were found and rescued on Friday, July 2.

The pastor of the church and other accomplices have been arrested by the state police command.

The rescued children were seen in a viral video being driven to the police station by security operatives in a patrol van.


In the now viral clip, a voice could be heard saying, “They are kidnapped children recovered in the underground cell of a church in the Valentino Area of Ondo.” The pastor and some members of the church have been arrested and were also in the patrol van of the police. “

The command’s public relations officer, SP Funmilayo Odunlami, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that the victims have been taken to the police headquarters in Akure.
