You want good shocks and you also want drivers to always take you through bad roads, with the peanuts you're paying. It's like you dont know this is business, you think we're good samaritans doing charity work abi. If uber can be maintaining my car there's no road I will not ply to get you to your destination

I also think the Uber drivers/partners should stop feeling like they are doing a less superior job. You are professionals. Act like it. If you know how important you job is, you will attach more pedigree to it.

P.S: In this life, there is someone always stepping on you, no matter whether you're the CEOor president.

Na wa o

Which one be man enough to cancel a ride again?

The display of machismo at every given opportunity.

Why can’t you just cancel and book another ride instead of feeding your ego?

Kai! People!

This is not about machismo, its about taking responsibility and the attendant consequences. If you want the rider to cancel, be upfront and polite about it.

We've addressed this, guess you're late coming here. Let uber determine that. You can't determine when a driver leaves a platform because he rejects your trips, the platform decides.
And the question, does uber or bolt see it the way you do, No, they know drivers have their rights and lifelines with which they can reject trips over a certain range.

The reason for the penalties on driver cancellation is to stop selective tripping. If everyone chooses to drive in VI and good road areas it's fine. But it defeats the purpose of moving people.

And you think the driver whose cars are not owned by Uber likes to endanger their investment by going to God forsaken places some riders crawl from or going to places where they will blow back empty.... Because he has too much money to waste?

Just as Uber will hardly ban riders, they dont ban drivers except for fraud like the guy that ripped off the grandma. So you guys should continue coming here to vent wrongly.

We can go on and on but Uber cares not. Even when banned for low activity score, all you have to do is to go and explain yourself, latest 48hrs you are back. I Uninstalled my Bolt driver app and they have been firing me emails on why I did so, I stopped driving since July last year and Uber is still inviting me to sign up.

So if we like, let's continue arguing.
Like someone posited before, just like Uber gives surge to attract drivers during rains and flood, they ought to have pimped their model to charge higher for bad areas if they actually listen to feedbacks, but they don't and that's why riders can rant all the time. I read how Uber charges higher fares for certain areas of California. Why can't they charge higher for dead zone in Nigeria.

If drivers are 'misbehaving', then know something is wrong with the platform.
I've heard people say Uber drivers are better than taxify bla bla bla, not knowing that over 90% drive on both platforms. The difference is Uber's more attentive and quick redress of drivers complaints than Bolt. So an Uber driver will allow you go with your fare but will fight you if you try such on Bolt.

Finally Uber promised you comfort and quick service etc, ask them why they lowered their model year to 2000 from 2008, ask them why they've not yanked off some dead cars from the platform, ask them why they cut their rates by over 40% since 2017.

You pay peanuts and you'll get peanuts. If you want all that comfort at your beck and call, buy a car, employ a driver or rent one.... at a premium. Uber and Taxify is no longer premium service!

Based on all you have said, you had a choice and left the ride hailing business. Nobody forces you to join. All businesses in Nigeria have their peculiar challenges but people still do them.

If at the end of the day, Uber partners are making total losses, nobody will tell the partners to quit.

And what do you mean by all that comfort? Uber standard is a clean car, AC and good shocks for a good ride. That is comfort enough. If you can't provide that then you have no business being on Uber. No one is expecting massage seats...

I want to assume most drivers don't look at the riders ratings again. Once I see u have a low rating and you are a lady, I will just prepare my mind, if your tune on d phone is somehow
I will either cancel without telling u or go their and ignore any insult.
I've dropped a unilag girl before with plenty loads in d booth and she said oga pls help me bring my bags to d house and she went inside.
I sat in d car for minutes not knowing what to do?
Las las I carry bag inside oh. Saw her gisting with her friends on bed.
Uber says I shouldn't do that, but did it for peace

You encouraged the behaviour so don't complain. I'm sure there are formal ways to handle such issues as a driver.

Tomorrow, as you didn't say no and stick to the agreement of movement of passengers. She will do same to another Partner.

"......you're able to make yourself available or cancel allocated booking........"

And goes further to recommend drivers should go offline to avoid being banned.

Isn't same thing we are saying?

The first paragraph already gives the drivers power to take trip or cancel trips.

The second paragraph is an advice to curtail too much cancellation to avoid bans. And that's what UBER does, when a driver cancels too much, he gets blocked.

That's why we say it is not within the power of any rider to tell drivers to take his car off platform because he cancels trips, UBER will decide that when the driver exceeds the threshold. You may argue that UBER frowns at cancellation over bad roads or destination, but the partnership agreement already gives the drivers power to cancel trips over a certain range.

This is Nigeria, roads are bad, drivers can choose to avoid certain roads to protect his car/investment, he has a lifeline in the right to cancel trips over a certain range as permitted by the agreement. I will not put my car in danger because of UBER, which doesnt take any responsibility for damage on my car, when I can simply cancel as long as I'm still safe to do that.

I don't see a reason why riders should be angry when a driver cancels a trips as long as the driver is still safe to cancel, just book another trip.

That's why DRIVERS ARE THEIR OWN BOSSES.

A driver can reject/cancel trips if he doesnt want it, when he cancels to a level is when he gets banned and that is for UBER/bolt to decide, riders should know that.

The way you emphasize BOSS amazes me. All Bosses provide service.

I personally have no issues with a driver who cancels, but cancel on your driver's app. If you depend on the riders to cancel so you can continue your business, then .......

You see why some of you don't know jack about what is there for drivers. This thread is for drivers and drivers know that the more you cancel, the more your activity score goes down till they temporarily suspend you. As a rider, you don't stand anything to loose. 99.9% of the time, it's the driver that uses his credit to call you and you still feel entitled. When you go to book yellow taxi that charges you double of Uber, do you vex for them even when you use your two legs to go find them.
The only time you stand to loose is when the driver has arrived and you may loose 400 for the aborted trip. And by the way, just as you have uber and bolt, the drivers have both too and can decide to leave your request till eternity.

So you feel the riders just book Uber because they are bored and like moving aimlessly around Lagos? A riders time and money is valuable. So I take offense when you say we don't have anything to lose.

As for the yellow taxi, you cant vex for them because you don't have any expectations of them coming to pick you rather you flag down or go to their locations. Uber promised us to expect the driver.

You clearly don't know how ehailing works.
There is nothing like you can't eat your cake and have it.

The platform only brings the riders to the drivers and earns commission on it. Drivers can reject any trip he doesnt like.

Uber and bolt understand this fact, and that is why drivers are not penalized for rejecting trips except when your exceed the threshold.

Rephrase you point. If they are not penalized then there can't be a threshold.

Why do you think they give surge during rainy days? They also know drivers would reject many trips and wouldn't go to those flooded places, except surge can make some drivers reconsider.

Surge is a business decision as a result of demand and supply. It isn't native to uber partners alone. Even Danfo's and Okada riders have surges.

If riders know that drivers aren't employees or staff of any ehailing platform, we will have less fights. Drivers are partners; they choose when to work and can reject trip which they perceive pose threats to them. They are not bound to acct all trips.

Infact, these companies know this fact, hence the need for surge to eñcourqge drivers to work during rainy days because they know many drivers will stay at home or reject those flooded areas.
The fact that uber owns the platform is why they have share from drivers' earnings, but the ownership of the platform doesn't give uber or any platform the privilege to dictate which trip a driver must accept

You can't eat your cake and have it. If you want to drive like a normal yellow cab owner it's fine. But if you're a driver/partner on Uber, there are expectations and fulfillment for the rider.

Have you seen someone complain that a yellow cab driver did not take him or her where they wanted to go? Or pick the person from his location?

Why will they add incentive or take bike when they have you the DRIVER the slave?
That's why many people stopped doing personal driving, it's because of all these type of things.
Especially driving women, the next thing u hear is "I pay you". Some even expect you to do house chores and run awkward errands for them

An Uber Driver is not a slave. The aim of Uber is to pick and drop. Anything you do for the riders outside this is your personal preference.

Im sure you don't understand how uber works or even the whole story. Go and read the whole story again. Quite different from your judgement.

The way I understand Uber is that it's a platform that uses technology to take people where they want to go and the people that takes them earns a fee.

Kindly correct me if I am wrong?

One of the most reasonable posts here.

Riders should stop having sense of entitlement and need reorientation about this thing. Drivers can reject trips and that shouldn't run them mad; simply order for a new ride. If drivers always reject your destination, common sense should tell such riders to either add incentives or take a bike a lil away from that place to a place with better roads.

But this pride and sense of entitlement is ruining the whole thing.

Drivers can reject trips but they always like telling riders to cancel.

Me personally, I don't have issues with a driver that cancels trips, but they should be man enough to cancel from their Driver app.

For me the Uber driver was at fault. Don't accept a trip you know you cant make, and if you accept and cant make it, the onus lies on you to calm the rider down for rejecting the trip.

I know there are Nigerian peculiarities (bad roads, short distances, traffic, poor security) that affect the acceptance rate for drivers but be upfront and explain quickly.

Uber promised their riders convenience, comfort and flexibility. That's the mindset I have when booking for an Uber.
