Now what I'm saying is that as long as the phone was already on flight mode, the hostess had no salient reason to tell the girl to switch off her phone, it was not affecting the plane during takeoff, she was not making a call and causing a ruckus for everyone, at least not that I've read. Let me hear from you tho, why do you think the hostess was forcing the girl to switch off her phone?

Of course other people would have been on the flight they the probably didn't even put their phone in flight mode as you said. The difference is they were discreet about it, this Anti was explicitly told to switch her phone off and foolishly said it was in flight mode, was that what she was told?

She clearly showed that she had to regard for authority and was dealt with appropriately if you ask me. Okay it was over the top but she certainly doesn't get any sympathy from me.

Now something similar played out here, the phone was already on flight mode and had no chance of interfering with the plane's takeoff, why tell her to switch it off? Except there's a part of the story that I haven't heard about, I still think the airline should have handled this much much better.

What if the hostess tells you to jump out of the plane, would you? Humans are not animals that you tell go and they start going, even some animals are more advanced than that.
Not everyone will follow instructions like a soldier, lol, even some soldiers are rebellious. Anyway, the hostess didn't handle things properly, and ripping the girls shirt was totally uncalled for.

I've never flown ibom air but I'd wager that some of their passengers do not switch off their devices during takeoff and landing. I'd also wager that even on the flight in question, some other passengers must have left their phones on. What I feel happened is that the hostess didn't like the way the girl spoke to her and decided to retaliate when they touched down...anyho..., both parties were definitely wrong. The girl, for slapping others and being rude in general, the hostess for blocking the girl from deboarding, the security from dragging her like a piece of furniture, the airline for banning her like that, they're not judge, jury and executioner.

I know for a fact that some international flights have charging spots and wireless connection for passengers to connect to while in the air. When my wife was traveling back to Canada, we were chatting constantly while they were in the air, I am sure the airline would not have given them wifi connection if there was any iota of concern that a phone being operated in the air can lead to a crash.
I know that we're pretty behind in these things over here and I understand that, but there was no reason for the ibom guys to escalate the issue to such a level especially as the passenger already put her phone in flight mode according to the gist flying around.

I really don't get this incident. If the girl did put her phone on flight mode, why was she singled out by the hostess for this kind of harassment? E sure me die that she was not the only passenger whose phone was on flight mode.
Secondly, the girl was clearly trying to deboard but was being obstructed by the hostess saying 'she is beating me' over and over again. If she clearly wanted to leave the plane, what was now the essence of her being dragged off the plane by security personnel? Why did the hostess not just let her depart the plane? Since when did putting your phone on flight mode become a criminal offense?? So many questions running through my mind, I would have really loved to be on that flight, first hand experience is always better in these sort of situations.

It is standard practice everywhere that phones should be switched off before flight...the air hostesses won't go around checking everyone's phone to ensure compliance but it is expected that as a reasonable human being that you comply with basis instructions.

Next time you are on an international flight bring out your phone and put it to your ear and pretend to be making a call then see the reaction you will get from the air hostesses and from fellow passengers!

From the story circulating online, I think the girl did put the phone on flight mode but the hostess insisted on it being switched off for whatever reason, I might be wrong tho but that's what I've been able to garner so far

Have you flown before? If yes, I'm sure You've seen several people with phones on during takeoff and landing. I personally do not switch off my phone, it's not mandatory that your phone be switched off, flight mode is fine.

It baffles me how people that have never flown once in their lives feel they can tell us how to be safe while flying, ridiculousness everywhere. I've flown locally several times and never once was I Forced to switch off my phone, airplane mode is fine, I know people that don't even bother putting their phones on airplane mode and the flight still goes smoothly
