Nozzle: bros take this ur wife hunting adventure to the romance/ dating section abeg let's focus on real issues here at least the reason for the thread. if if your brother, with his good credential and good job cannot find a wife for himself make he go wash him head for bar beach!
@ aunty osisi, na u biko, I can't thank you enough for this thread. for some of us you have answered some very critical questions we really had no answer to. I am a marine engr working here in nigeria my fiancé is a pharmacist currently lives n works in nigeria too. She just gt her PR (green card)last yr through her dad who is a medical doctor in d states and ofcos a citizen. Now the dad wants her to come for her MBA and work in the US. I am fine with that cos I am also considering doing my MSc in process control eng and work in the main stream energy sector and not shipping where I have worked as a marine eng here in Nigeria. However, i have my fears and the major ones are funding and time. MSc in US is 2 yrs, I will have to leave my job for 2 years. Within which we wud defintely get married and surely that's more expensive. Though her father will sponsor her MBA program as promised but I still have my reservations, what of If he decides to pull out after our marriage. As for the 2 years MSc program my company will not give a 2-yr study leave in other words going for MSc in the US is auto resignation for me. Uk schools on the other hand are a lot favorable I even got a school in Canada that offers process control eng MEng on just one year. So the questions are; how well do US fancy MSc from other countries like UK and Canada? Are there one year MSc degrees in eng. How available are jobs in d energy sector in the US? Is MBA ideal for my fiancé? She has BSc in Pharmacy from Nigeria. How can we use her status as a green card holder to our advantage?
Hope u understand my story. The thing dey confuse me self lol
. My friend you sound like an educated and informed person but need I remind you that respect for peoples opinion and good manners (rather than insults and fowl speaking) is still part of education. I guess you get my message now! Mr MARINE ENGINEER! Without manners! God bless you real good! @ babyosisi please my. Post still needs ur response inspite of the rude interruption. Thanks again.

. Hi babyosisi, once again I am amazed at your patience and verse knowledge that's evident in the way you respond to practically every question asked on this thread! More grace! But on a lighter note, the highlighted post caught my attention, not for my self though (because I am happily married to the best wife in the world lol!) ,but for my immediate younger brother. He is an engineer (mechanical/production), presently working with a power firm here in abuja nigeria, so what's up? Are you for real? If yes then we can take it up from there. He is not on nairaland though, but I can handle all correspondence. Thanks in advance.

babyosisi:

Thanks for the compliments
Yes,if you get an FI visa, your dependents( wife and children) will automatically get F2
You must make sure however that your funds are enough to support you all
If they determine that the funds are not enough,it could cost you a denial of your F1
What most people do is come alone for the FI then while you are here, you file for your dependent to join you.
Yes your wife can work with an F2 visa, she is eligible for a work permit with that.

There are some states that allow holders of foreign medical degrees to work with what they call limited license not as doctors but as physician assistants.I know a couple that did that while taking their exams.
You can only work in places like prisons lol.when I lived in the north east, Massachusetts was one of those states ,there could be others.
I will check on that and get back to you but you can imagine such jobs are tough to get and I imagine not stable.
There could be others states too.
With a foreign degree you cannot work in any hospitals or clinics as a doctor
I don't know of any state that will allow it.

The only job you can do is perhaps as a medical assistant in a doctor's office
Medical assistants only take vitals signs I.e weight, height and some draw blood
As a foreigner coming into a new system I will advise that she starts by finding a hospital that will allow her to do an observatory or shadowing.
She goes there and follows the doctors for their rounds etc and sees what they do and how they do it
She has to take that seriously and show up like a paid staff
It is a good way to start off
My husband did that
He got an unpaid position and Was even doing night calls with them, going to the OR for surgeries with them etc long hours.
He got to to know the big shots in the group and impressed them by his participation and when the time came,he got great references from them when he eventually applied to residency programs.

Medical assistants make about $12/hr
For states that can allow her practice as a physician assistant, she can make up to $25/ hr
I will check into the physician asst PA thing and get back to you.

To your last question,it doesn't matter where you come to
She will end up spending 3 years wherever she gets residency training ,they are tough to come by so wherever she gets one,she will move there and would likely move again or remain at the same location for a one year fellowship.
Wherever she gets a waiver job that will file for an H visa, she will go there.
You will have your pick of where to end up after all this.
The first six years won't be easy.
. Thanks a million my dear sister! We will review these options and see the one that best works for us. God bless you and your family richly.

babyosisi:

Let me answer you the best I can.
From what you write, you are probably in a higher income bracket than many
Probably have your own house, two cars and can afford the little luxuries Nigeria offers .
With good jobs ,a buoyant bank account and a solid person inviting you,you can obtain visiting visas to the USA for Summer or winter holidays.
I will advise that you come on a visit first and see the USA for yourself. If you are successful, they usually give 2 year multiple entry .
So come for a month long visit or two
Two months is enough time to have have a good feel of things.

If finally you decide to emigrate
Your medical doctor wife will have to take the USMLE exams ,pass through what they call matching to get into a residency training program
It is very competitive to get placement because she is competing with American and other foreign graduates but many others have done it and succeeded.
There are sites online where she can find every detail she needs about USMLE and foreign graduates
She will need papers from NMDC,discharge papers from houseman ship,NYSC,evidence of employment in Nigeria etc.
If she has a classmate who has recently migrated to the USA and gone through the hoops, she needs to contact them, they will give her the latest information.
But I can realistically tell you that it will take her at least 6 years or more to qualify as a specialist from the moments she steps her foot here.
It will take about two years to take those 3 steps of USMLE

If she is blessed to get into residency immediately,it will take another three years to train and another one year of fellowship.
Residents are paid during training just like in Nigeria
And the hospital will help her obtain a J visa once accepted.
After training, she will look for a job that will help apply for an H visa for her.
They are not hard to come by,the only thing is that she may end up ivery small towns and sign a contract to work there for a number of years and they file a green card for her.
That is the path most foreign medics follow.
Let me also add those USMLE Exams are taken in Ghana ( at least I heard),check that out,see if Nigeria has centers too.
She can obtain the relevant books and take them before coming. It is harder that way.
people do better when they attend preparatory classes with centers like KAPLAN before taking the exams.

I don't know much about architects with foreign degrees .the only Architect I know from Nigeria is now a nurse but you can contact the relevant boards and inquire what it takes to get licensed here.
Certainly you should go back to do a masters or PHD and obtaining an FI shouldn't be too difficult if you can prove that you have funding especially if you are already here.
. Great! Response!, babyosisi your responses sometimes is like a sweet tonic, you do it with so much passion and grace! The Lord will continue to strenghten you in your good works. Now, I have heard stuff like you can get a school to admit one in a Phd programme and in such cases your wife automatically is entitled to a visa/work permit, how true is that, and also in view of the USMLE exam stuff, I believe one can be practicing in a private clinic or hospital pending when she qualifys for the USMLE, is that possible? And if it is, what is the remuneration like, and which of the states or small towns as you mentioned can you recommend. Thanks again.

Having stated the obvious above, I wish to solicit your help/response to the following: my wife and I are professionals residing and working here in nigeria. I am a practising Architect by profession, while my wife is a medical doctor. We are what you can call a young and relatively comfortable nigerian couple and we are presently exploring our options, part of which is migration to the states of canada. I am looking forward to doing my Phd over there while working on part time, in the same vein, my wife will be furthering her medical residency programme while working too. Now I need your clearification and advise in the following area(s); what's your take on the whole idea of migrating?, what are our like options to facilitate the migration?, what are the challenges/constraints for a couple with our portfolio?, how soon and how well can we settle if we migrate in view of green cards, work permit, the f1s and f4s and so on? What is the demand and remuneration for a construction and medical professional over there? Just any other advise you deem fit that will be of benefit both to us and to other aspiring fellow country men. Thanks in advance. God bless.

Having said that, I wish to advise that you interact with the average nairalander on a face level, because the truth of the matter is that there's no age/ reasoning bracket for registering new members, as such both infants, teenagers and the likes are free to make comments and possibly insult you if your not careful enough to avoid them. Dalu so nne for keeping the resident obi sycophant on nairaland in check. Note you have been talking with the same person with a million id's. its no news that Peter Agnes Obi is a huge fraud. A governor that in 8 years left Anambra worst than he met it. Not even one of the urban centers received govt attention all through his 8 years. He used his position build and expand his private business namely, Fidelity Bank (one of the unknown and poor banks prior to his govt but today among the top), Next mall in Abuja, Sabmiller beer Factory, Hero Beer etc. The man is the worst governor in the south east, a master of deceit. He claimed to be saving Anambra money while he was lodging it in his bank, boosting their capital and pocketing the interest. GO to Awka and see how it is. He couldn't even conduct LG elections, pocketing their funds. Ibori is a learner where Peter obi is.
. My friend your quote is so full of lies, highly myopic, full of unreasonable hatred and indignation against the person of peter obi, honestly you almost sound like an illitrate. I am not sure you are an anambrarian, because I you are one-you will see what God has achieved in the state through mr peter obi.

. You re on point my dear! That's the right attitude to growth and development, those talking about akwa ibom should first do research on the amount of federal billions that governor akpabio receives as oil derivation fund monthly, then compare with the resources of anambra state. Not to mention that with these billions, akwa ibom and the likes of lagos are to in the of debtors to both debt management office and so on, but ironically anambra owes no one.

. Hi freeglobe, I might not be a politician like you, neither am I a public relations or campaign officer for any of the gubernatorial candidates like you, but I am first a true and honest nigerian, and more importantly a true and sincere anambrarian. Having spent a reasonable number of years in anambra state, over twelve of which I spent in awka and its environs, I can boldly tell you that Governor Peter Obi is the best that have governed anambra state since its creation, I am talking about all round leadership and development viz-a-viz economic, educational, infrastructural, social etc. Its actual disheartening that you could go to refuse dumps, dilapidated federal roads (which anyways is being rehabilitated via peter obi's goodwill at the federal level), and a couple of some funny places in the town and pick up shots in your desperation to paint the governor black so that your prefered candidate can will in the november election, well you got it all wrong because some of us know the truth, we know where we were and where we are now as a state, we know what God has done for anambrarians through mr obi and cheap blackmails and political dishonesty/desperation from people like you will not make us to be less appreciative. Seriously dude. Did i say i was against the western world? I only said we africans are taking too much of thier culture and practicing it. Besides, who wired us to just have casual sex because we need to multiply. Look at the world today.....heck look at Nigeria...do we look like we need to multiply, Just because you men cant control your libido! Please my dear no matter where you come from, sex before marriage is both a sin and an insult to your body. How did aids spread so rapidly?! There's nothing to gain from it.....just unwanted pregnancy.(leading to murder i.e abortion.), diseases(some leading to death.). Wait till you're married, thats the beauty of it all.
And oh! Sex before marriage is like opening your birthday present before your birthday, when you finally open it....there's no excitement. Just bluh.

.........I think the problem here is that we nigerians and more unfortunately the elites has benefited so much from the loopholes and corruption in our system that whenever the system turns around and catch up with us we start crying foul and wiping up unnecessary sentiments. For goodness sakes, why should a V.I.P air craft that conveys a governor owe airline dues? Why should an experienced air pilot not know when he is supposed to pay his dues? Is the federal authourities supposed to close their eyes to the corruption and lawlessness of the citizenry because of their political position or because of their biased comments on social media like this one? ....Heavenly father!...when will this generation of nigerians stop insulting and disrespecting their leaders!..when will they pause, meditate and PRAY for their leaders!..all we do is sit in the confines of our homes, point accusing fingers, rant and criticize rather destructively. When will this generation of nigerians cease from undue lamentation(s) and ask some soul searching questions like...if I am jonathan how best will I handle these burning national problems under a space of 24 months: like power, international relations, economic growth, education, science and technology, rural infrastructure, road construction, boko haram and other security problems, press freedom, democracy its entirety with special reference to a country like nigerian. I am convinced that if we can effectively find answers to these questions and place them on threads like this in nairaland and other social sphere this country will be great again. I am also convinced that by the time you are done with the soul search, you will find out (that is if you can throw away politics and ethnic/tribal/religious sentiments) that president Jonathan has out-performed all his predecessors under two years, you will also find out that all he needs is our prayers and encouragement to do better in the remaining years of his tenure, he is not the problem of nigeria, he has never been the problem and he will not be the problem. If we all can pray more for our leaders rather than insult and destructively criticize it will be well with us. God bless us all.

Family / Re: Divorce - Why Cant Women Say "I M Sorry"? by fratochi: 8:51am On Apr 27, 2013
Princess zoe: The issue is, a woman can go against her husband instruction if it is going to affect her and the children. The women are the weaker sex, they are very sensitive. Husbands are meant to pay attention to details and listen to their wives complain. Now biblically, divorce is only granted when one of the partner has committed adultery if not, Mr. Man you must not remarry for the sake of your salvation.
. My dear, as much as I have fallen in love with your undying protection and declaration of christianity and its virtues, I would still call ur attention to the true meaning of christs teaching on divorce: the book of mathew 5v32 which reads 'but I say unto you that whosoever shall put away his wife, saving (except) for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery', underline the words fornication and adultery, now in the jewish tradition, a young woman is normally bethrot to.a young man in their teens and its automatically assumed they are married. Now if the girl allows another man to sleep with her, then the man she is paired with is free to send her away or 'divorce her', that is why christ used the term 'fornication', off course we all know that fornication. Is sexual intercourse between two unmarried people, while adultery is between two married. Or a married and an unmarried. So in summary, there's no provision for divorce in the scriptures, infact christ Himself said 'whatever God has joined together, let no man put asunder' even in the epistles, paul speaking said 'God HATES putting away', so my dear, may God grant us understanding. I also want to use this medium to commend their courage and dedication in preaching christian morals, God bless you.
