wow these kleptomaniacs, how will you build a refinery without any oil. They wanted to thief ND oil for the refinery as usual but thank God the PIB has come to the rescue. Perhaps Fashola should use the excess water from the Eko Atlantic to run the refinery. |
The proposed 300,000 barrel per day Greenfield Lekki Refinery located in Lagos may remain in the realm of wishful thinking of the Lagos State government and the stakeholders if the alleged flaws in the new Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) are not immediately addressed. Some of the investors told LEADERSHIP Sunday in Lagos that they backed out of the project because of some of the contentious clauses in the PIB before the National Assembly. “The International Oil Companies (IOCs) driving the Lekki Refinery are reluctant to risk their money in the project because of some provisions in the PIB. The bill is not in our interest. We want the status quo to be maintained as in pre-PIB Joint Venture Agreement with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the Lagos State government,” said one of them. “Right now, I must tell you that investors are worried that the passing of the PIB in its present form will automatically reverse the earlier agreements. The provisions of the PIB cede too much power to the government at the expense of the investors. There is also this feeling among the investors that when the PIB is eventually passed the host communities’ equity participation in the upstream oil and gas industry will be increased. The 8 per cent the IOCs think is right going but the PIB will increase it to 10 per cent.” He added that these facts, coupled with frequent changes in the top management of the NNPC by the federal government, had made sourcing of funds for the $8 billion project difficult. LEADERSHIP Sunday’s visit to the Lekki Free Trade Zone (LFTZ), the proposed site of the refinery, showed that the envisaged 2017 streaming date might not be realised as nothing was on the ground to demonstrate the seriousness of the investors to deliver the project. It was observed that, since the signing of the agreement between the Lagos State government and the NNPC in collaboration with a consortium of Chinese investors known as ChinaState last year for the establishment of the refinery under a public-private partnership (PPP) arrangement, nothing tangible had been done. If the stakeholders had gone ahead with the construction of the refinery as planned, it would have, in addition to the above crude output, produced 500,000 metric tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) per annum. Under the arrangement, the Chinese are expected to provide 80 per cent of the funds, leaving 20 per cent to the NNPC. The Lagos State government will, in addition to providing the land for the project, construct infrastructure such as road to the site and electricity. Optimistic that the partnership would work, Governor Babatunde Fashola, who recently received a delegation of the investors led by the group executive director, engineering and technology of the NNPC, Billy Agha, said the state was set for the multi- billion-naira refinery The governor said the project was coming at the most opportune time, adding that the government did not foresee any hurdle in the project with the involvement of the Chinese investors because the state was already partnering with another group of Chinese investors on the development of the first phase of the LFTZ. The NNPC management hopes that the Lekki refinery, when completed, will provide over 7,000 jobs for both skilled and unskilled labour. http://leadership.ng/nga/articles/48482/2013/02/24/chinese_company_may_abandon_8bn_lagos_refinery_project.html |
This is sad. These stories keep repeating itself, where are the families, the churches and mosques (millions in lagos), the oba, the illajes, the society. As a feminist and as a human I totally condemn this act from this young man, request he faces life in prison and ask our elders and society to stand up against this resident evil. |
34-year old man, Kehinde Paul Layode, has been arraigned before a family court in Ikeja for allegedly defiling a three-year old girl (name withheld). The incident, which happened at 3/5, John Crescent, Igando, Lagos, wouthwest Nigeria, was reported at the Igando Police Station. The accused, if found guilty, risks spending a minimum of five years in jail under the Criminal Laws of Lagos State. According to the girl’s mother (name withheld) who spoke with P.M.NEWS correspondents, Kehinde was one of her neighbours and she left her daughter in his custody to get drugs for the girl when the man allegedly took advantage of her. “I was going to make my hair in the salon when I discovered that my daughter’s temperature was high and I told Kehinde’s wife to help me take care of her. But she asked me to leave her with her husband since she also wanted to make her hair and that we should go to the salon together.” “It wasn’t up to ten minutes after I went to get the drugs for her that I returned to the house and asked Kenny (Kehinde) to open the door but he didn’t. Instead, he told me that the girl was sleeping, that I shouldn’t bother myself about her. Then I asked him to at least open the door for me to see my girl and he said that he was in the bathroom.” The girl’s mother said she was shocked when the door was eventually opened and she discovered that the girl had been defiled. “I insisted that he opened the door. At this point, my daughter was lying down on the bed but was not sleeping. I asked him why he told a lie but he did not respond. I only observed that my girl was looking rather disturbed. “When I opened her pant out of suspicion to check her, I saw sperm in between her thighs. I got really mad at him and asked him what happened but he went really wild and told me that he did not do anything. ‘How could I have raped her?’ he asked me and when neighbours came around, they were also as surprised as I was,” she narrated. The doctor’s report confirmed that the girl was defiled following the tests carried out on her. It was also alleged that the accused had pleaded with the family to settle out of court but the girl’s family insisted that they wanted justice to prevail. When the matter was initially taken to the magistrate’s court, he pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N250, 000 with a surety and the matter was adjourned till Friday, 22 February, 2013. However, the matter was tranferred to the family court. The court did not sit on 22 February and the matter was adjourned till 8 April, 2013. —Ayodeji Dedeigbo & Damilare Okunola |
Alfamann: This sounds like an Yoruba proverb. I am beginning to doubt whether you are really from nnewi or an impostor. Which igbo proverb says "cut your ear"? ![]() |
saintohia: ^^^^^yes, hopefully he would appoint a cabinet for that. The thing is that odumchi did not appoint any cabinet and he was not doing anything himself at all so that should not worry you. #Alex101,2013 ![]() |
PointB: Odumchi's resignation is effective only after a new Eze has been appointed. That much he said in his resignation notice. I personally don't want to appoint anyone, as I am also an appointed official. As per the constitution, only the Eze and his cabinet should appoint. Hence, either Odumchi or Ogugua should do the appointment.what balderdash! He resigned. Its not like his tenure ended. Not like he said he would tender his resignation after the election like Pope did. He ceased from having any powers the moment he tendered his resignation. The remaining electoral tribunal memberds should meet and appoint someone to replace the vacant position or since you said their is an ezenwanyi, she should do that. |
Symphony007: The personification of pure idiocy called the lagos state government is upgrading lagos to a mega city so lagosians should also change their mentality to a mega status...what's market? Start shopping in malls!! Fashola's lagos is not for poor men o, if you can't meet up return to your home state.what a fool you are. So where will the indigenous Lagos poor people numbering millions return to? to your house? fool |

Alfamann: Here we go again. Eze Odumchi the second. He has not even been elected first and he has already started apologising for absences.its not about being on nairaland 24/7. its about making an impact whatever minutes you are on nairaland afterall odumchi is a Mod on nairaland, he stays on nairaland 24/7 but with 0 impact on his ezeship. |
May I humbly recommend that those of you hard headed, old fashioned, and ignorant posters such as Syncan, who post only in Igbo, that they terminate this behavior ASAP. This behavior alienates many Igbo youths who were born abroad or outside of the East and thus unable to read or write Igbo. These people are nonetheless as Igbo as Ojukwu himself. One of the signs of political maturity is the inclusion of all constituents in all matters Igbo and ensuring that no one is disenfranchised. Mind you, these youths who are being alienated by the old coots who continue to post in Igbo without any interpretation, are the Igbo leaders of tomorrow. Nuff said.
stfu |
PointB: 9ja_I_hail, Ujchief, and Afam4ever please for your attention and speedy ruling.odumchi has resigned. His resignation has been accepted. He lacks the locus standi to appoint anyone. The electoral committee should appoint a replacement and handle the issue by themselves. Why do you always work without any drop of professionalism? |
The problem is that Fashola abandoned governance for tribal war. I dare him to shut down Alaba intl market so he can be shut down from govt house. |
PointB: You are correct we have electoral body. The electoral body consist of the Electoral Commissioner and the Electoral tribunal. As I explained ealier to you, I am the current Electoral Commissioner. 9Ja_I_hail, Afamdever and Ujchief are members of the tribunal. As the Electoral Commisioner I have the mandate to take decisions such as disqualifying a candidate or not based on strength of evidence of breach of rule. But the Tribunal reserves the right to over rule or uphold my decissions.for you, more evidence is never enough, even if Okija announces he is not igbo today, you will need more evidence. Stop using this more evidence to divert attention. In any case where is the electoral tribunal we should report top when only one has been active since inception of this election. When someone asked you to recruit him to the tribunal, why did you refuse when you have shortage of active staff. |
btw.... 3 members were appointed into the electoral team and only one is active ![]() ? |
berem: for where? It was when i got married i started speaking igbo. I hear and write igbo but i don't speak fluently back then .no be my fault na! lagos life don enter my head.thank God am now perfect. So don't be surprised i don't know nada about igbo history.Hmmmm, Alhaji Harem somebody? ![]() |
PointB: Umunna, why are you taking these decisions by yourself? I thought we have an electoral panel/body/committee/whatever. why not take the matter to them to vote. We operate democracy here. You have made erroneous judgements in the past for us to trust you with another . |
