Politics › Nnamdi Kanu Refuses To Denounce Biafra by freelancenig(op): 1:06pm On Aug 02, 2016 |
The Spokesperson for IPOB, Dr. Clifford Chukwuemeka Iroanya as recently released a statement in response to the claims circulating in the media that the MEND have reached an agreement with the government of Nigeria in which the Leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, will be released from detention on the grounds that he openly renounces Biafra and IPOB. He said that the news was false and that the group was only trying to use such rumor to gain relevance from their moribund status, he further advised MEND that Biafra is a spirit and cannot be killed or subject to negotiations, he said Kanu was God sent to finally free the Igbo people. “The restoration of Biafra is not subject to negotiation. If there should be any form of negotiation at all, it must be on asset sharing between Nigeria and Biafra and on the payment of reparations and damages of money stolen from Biafrans by Nigeria through the 1970 twenty pounds deal and other subsequent acts of theft by Nigeria against Biafrans.” He went on to emphasize that IPOB stand on Biafra or Death still remains and nothing can change the mind of the people or their leaders also saying that IPOB is a unique, focused and determined group unlike the MASSOB. http://www.gidiblitz.com/index.php/78-news/22152-nnamdi-kanu-refuses-to-denounce-biafra

Health › Obi’s Wife Decries HIV/AIDS Prevalence In Anambra by freelancenig(op): 9:49pm On Sep 05, 2013 |
By Chukwujekwu Ilozue/Onitsha
No fewer than 400,000 are suffering from HIV/AIDS in Anambra, laments wife of the state governor, Margaret Obi. She pointed out that the figure represents 8.7 per cent sexually active group in Anambra State, which has a population of five million.
Mrs. Obi who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Henrietta Agbata, was briefed at Ihiala, Ekwusigo Local Government Area by the state Director of Action Committee of AIDS (ANSACA), Dr. John Ndibe, at the weekend when she paid her yearly visit to the nine HIV/AIDS clusters in the state excluding those with the Primary Health Centres.
She lamented the prevalence rate in the state and appealed to them to live positively to avoid spreading the virus.
She gave each of the clusters N130,000 cash, eight bags of rice, eight bags of beans, cartons of beverage drinks, cartons of custard and crayfish among others.
She reminded them that HIV/AIDS is like every other disease and that if they follow the directives on medication and live healthy life they would live longer and happier. She charged them not to neglect acquiring a skill from the free skill acquisition centres in the state made available for them by the state government.
On behalf of Mrs. Obi, Agbata visited Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Hospital Ihiala, St. Andrews Anglican Church D C C Nnewi , General Hospital Ekwulobia , St Joseph the Worker Hospital Adazi-Nnukwu, General Hospital Awka and General Hospital Enugu-Ukwu.
Other hospitals she visited include St Charles Boromeo Hospital Onitsha , Rush Gran Hospital Onitsha, and General Hospital Onitsha.
Director of Child Development in the Ministry of Women Affairs , Mr. Emeka Ejide lamented that many of the HIV/AIDS victims went through hellish situation before Obi’s administration and there was no activity in ANSACA before it was resuscitated, he said. He assured that the state government would support them outlive stigmatization. At Ihiala, Rev Fr. Simon Adigbo of Hope Alive Support Group ; Gladys Ezembu of Hope Givers Awka ‘ Ibekwe Alexander of Health Link Organization Ekwulobia ; Innocent Nwafor of Network of people living with HIV/AIDS in Nnewi among other speakers of the people living with HIV/AIDS in Anambra State appealed for more attention to their members as many are graduates but could not get job because of societal stigmatization.
They appealed for dedication of two per cent of the state and local government budgets for response to people living with HIV/AIDS and to equally reconstitute the ANSACA Board in the state as well as to get more facilities and computers in the skill acquisition centres.

Crime › Whereabouts Of Kidnapped NYSC Members Still Unknown - Police by freelancenig(op): 5:17pm On Jul 07, 2013 |
BARELY one week after the three corps members were abducted from their lodge in Ogonokom, Abua/Odual Local Government Area, their whereabouts are still unknown.
The corps members (two males and one female) were taken away by their abductors from the Corpers’ Lodge around 12am on June 29, 2013.
The hoodlums had gained entry into the corpers’ lodge 20 minutes after they had turned off the generator supplying electricity to the building.
Though the corps members’ captors had demanded N20m ransom, nothing was said about the time they would be released.
The abducted corps members, who were taken away through the riverside in Abua, were identified as Ogochi Martins, Chijioke Richard and Esther Nwachukwu.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Angela Agabe, confirmed that the abducted corps members were yet to be released.
Agabe said the command had intensified search for them with a view to ensuring that they regained their freedom without harm.
She explained that those involved would be apprehended and made to face the consequence of their action. Also, the Abua/Odual local government Chairman, Mr. Udi Odum, who expressed worry over the non-release of the corps members, prayed that the incident would be the last in the area.
Odum stated that he ordered the relocation of other corps members after the incident to a safe place, adding that the Ominima lodge was far away from the riverside, which kidnappers used as their route.
The council chairman said there were plans to erect a fence at the new corps members lodge to enhance their security.
“We are planning to erect a fence and other necessary things that will ensure the safety of the corps members at Ominima. We had to move them from Ogolokom to Ominima so that they would be far away from the riverside,” he said. - See more at: http://informationnigeriatoday..com/2013/07/whereabouts-of-kidnapped-nysc-members.html#sthash.ZkX48sFh.dpuf |
