Technology Market / Why Is Glo Not Offering Esims Yet? by Freestyl(m): 12:44pm On Jan 14
Dear Glo World,

I've been a loyal customer since 2005 and recently got a new phone that exclusively supports eSIM. It's disappointing that Glo doesn't offer eSIMs yet.

eSIM is a digital version of the traditional physical SIM card. It works the same way as the physical sim, the only difference is that; It's embedded directly into your device, eliminating the need for a physical sim card!

Embracing this technology would greatly enhance the customer experience. Please consider implementing eSIMs soon to avoid inconveniencing your long-standing customers.

Thanking you in anticipation of a favorable action.

Sincerely,

Comrade Angula Bishop Reuben

Politics / 2023 Christmas: Governor Alia's Message To Benue People (photo) by Freestyl(m): 4:10pm On Dec 25, 2023
My wonderful people of Benue,

2. I heartily felicitate with you, particularly our fellow Christian brothers and sisters across the State, Nigeria, and indeed the world over, on the occasion of this year’s Christmas celebration.

3. The anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ affords us the opportunity to exude love for one another, and to share gifts and quality time with the less privileged, our friends and families.

4. It is a moment for us to imbibe the timeless values of compassion, tolerance and forgiveness irrespective of ethnic, cultural and historical differences, as exemplified by the birth and life of Jesus Christ.

5. I personally find this Yuletide very unique. It is my first as your Governor. Seven months ago, I formally was handed the baton of leadership as unanimously determined by millions of you at the polls. It is my resolve and that of every member of my team never to let you down.

6. It is partly for this reason that we recently handed 100 buses to the State-owned Benue Links transport company, mandating them to ensure that every commuter in Benue enjoys subsidized rates of transportation to their various destinations, especially during this Yuletide and afterwards.

7. More so, just last week, I flagged off the distribution of grains and other food items as palliatives across the 276 council wards in the State. The aim is not only to bring succour to the masses in view of the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy; the move is also geared towards translating RENEWED HOPE into reality in form of tokens of tangible dividends of democracy to cater for our most immediate needs.

8. Prompt payment of workers’ salaries is another statutory obligation that has come to stay under my watch. Be assured that the best is even yet to come.

9. It is my belief that the birth of Jesus Christ as the Prince of Peace will ignite in us the optimism of hope that we can be better than our current circumstances. I therefore, enjoin us all to strive to be better than we are today, combining our faith with exemplary conduct.

10. I call on you all to shun acts that dislocate unity amongst us. We must learn to live in harmony with all and sundry irrespective of our various religious, ethnic and political leanings.

11. I admonish you to resist being swayed by desperate, selfish and disgruntled politicians who are only interested in weaponizing you to cause divisions, mischief and disharmony. Always watch out for their media propaganda often couched in press conferences, staged video clips, doctored audio files and messages.

12. Most importantly, watch out especially for those who have abdicated their primary legislative responsibilities which you voted them to Abuja to perform. Be very wary of them at this crucial period as they have sadly failed to jointly sponsor even one newsworthy bill in the whole of the last six months, but have rather resorted to poisoning your minds with hate in the bid to divide and conquer.

13. In this season of hope, I urge you to remember to visit the sick, as well as provide refuge to those who cannot enjoy Christmas at home with their families, or have been sacked from their homes by insurgency or violence, particularly the IDPs.

14. I specially commend all security agencies, the civil society, the youth and all relevant stakeholders across the state, for upping your game during this period. I hope that this patriotic act of yours would be sustained even after the current celebrations.

15. It is my profound conviction that better days lie ahead of us as a people. I look forward to a rancour-free Benue in which goodwill, love, unity and prosperity reign supreme.

16. I wish you all happy Christmas celebrations.

The CBJ, comprising professional media practitioners of Benue origin, accorded Governor Alia the prestigious title of Grand Patron of the CBJ, and Award of Honour, affirming their recognition and support for his administration's efforts so far.

In a comprehensive rundown, Governor Alia outlined an impressive list of achievements across various sectors, indicating a transformative agenda aimed at revitalizing the state.

Some notable accomplishments he shared included:

1. Procurement of over 100 trucks of fertilizer and distribution to farmers at subsidized rates, fostering agricultural revolution and growth.

2. The reconstruction and modernization of the Benue State House of Assembly Complex with modern facilities

3. We have also initiated and completed the remodeling of the Benue State House of Assembly Clinic with state-of-the-art amenities to ensure quality healthcare for officials and staff.

4. Payment of salaries and pensions has been consistent on the 25th of every month, significantly improving the livelihoods of Benue people.

5. The prompt payment of gratuities at 100% upon retirement within 4 weeks is another milestone in this new administration.

6. Award of contracts and mobilisation of contractors to site for the construction of 16 strategic roads within Makurdi metropolis to be completed soon, which has extended to Gboko and other parts of Benue State. It is also our resolve to extend this to all major roads linking the 23 local government areas of the state. This is aimed at easing the movement of people, goods, and services to promote economic growth.

7. Water supply and sanitation facilities are also receiving attention in major towns across the state.

8. The “Light-up Makurdi” street light project is especially gaining momentum and enhancing urban infrastructure.

9. The process of ICT training 10,000 Benue youths by our government in collaboration with tech giants Google and Microsoft is ongoing. This is a calculated move to create local and global job opportunities for the teeming youths and to enable them to become self-reliant.

10. We have also initiated a continuous capacity development scheme for all civil servants in the state. The aim is to enhance productivity and optimal performance.

11. In a bid to boost entrepreneurship and alleviate poverty in the state, our administration has established the Entrepreneurship and Wealth Creation Bureau, as well as the Benue State International Cooperation and Development Bureau.

12. Payment of examination fees for all students in government-approved public secondary schools in the state sitting for the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) examinations, respectively. This would also serve as a stimulant for creating a literate and proficient society, which ensures that our people are provided with opportunities for lifelong achievements.

13. Both the Government House and State Secretariat have been connected to the 33KVA to provide uninterrupted power supply for the first time ever.

14. Work is currently ongoing to connect Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, and the ICT Training Centres of 10,000 youths at Benue State University, Makurdi, to 33 kVA for constant electricity supply.

15. The opening of the Muhammadu Buhari Mother and Child Hospital has boosted the health system in the state with the aim of reducing the maternal mortality rate and offering prompt and almost free services to women and children below the age of 5.

16. We were the first in Nigeria to implement the Revised Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF) 2023 for resident doctors at the revised rate.

17. The reintroduction of the Medical Bond Scheme for medical students of the School of Health Sciences, Benue State University, Makurdi, by approving monthly stipends of over N100,000 per student.

18. We have also approved the payment of N100,000 monthly allowances for each Doctor-Corps member serving in Benue State, as well as increasing the monthly allowances of all other corps members posted to our dear state by N15,000 monthly.

19. Procurement of 100 buses for Benue Links, the state-owned transport company, to improve services and relieve the burden of transportation on the good people of Benue. We have equally initiated branding and automation for the company to make room for online ticketing and other services.

20. We have begun a tour and on-the-spot assessment of all the state-owned industries, almost all of which are moribund. The revival of these industries, including the Taraku Oil Mills and the Wannune Tomato Processing Factory, among others, through the instrumentality of public-private partnerships (PPP), is our top priority. There is no denying the tremendous socio-economic impact that the revival of these industries would have on the people and the state in general.

21. We are also making a case for Benue to be considered for a 13% derivative given to states with mineral deposits from the Federation Account.

22. The commissioning of the computerised vehicle inspection centre in Northbank, Makurdi

23. We have successfully partnered with heads of security agencies on many occasions to find ways of fostering peace in the state.

24. There is also on-going rehabilitation work at the Benue State Secretariat.

25. Furthermore, my engagements with authorities in Abuja have led to the FG’s presence in the state, providing regular interventions through humanitarian services by donor organizations. They have been directed to deploy to Benue to help alleviate the suffering of IDPs and aid security operations.

26. The construction of cluster houses for the resettlement of IDPs is also underway in affected communities across the state.

27. On illegal structures and the citing of structures on waterways, we are ensuring we have a proper town planning framework to avoid floods and to beautify our state.

28. The State Government has begun a capacity-building initiative for civil servants in China to enhance productivity and service delivery in all sectors.

29. To guarantee proper scrutiny of government commitments, debts, and contracts, I have directed all MDAs to have units for that purpose.

30. We just commissioned the newly reconstructed Upper Area Court Otukpo in Otukpo LGA, which was furnished by the former Deputy Governor of Benue State, Engr. Benson Abounu.

31. In partnership with the Federal Government, I have equally flagged off “Operation Enduring Peace III," a military exercise by formations in the state to enhance unity and security.

32. We are also taking great strides towards repositioning the education sector, right from primary to tertiary level. To this end, we have set up visitation panels in all the state-owned tertiary institutions to assess and ascertain their status for necessary action.

33. We have also taken proactive steps towards preventing the spread of the anthrax virus by vaccinating animals in all the 23 local government areas of the state. We equally ensured that bio-security measures had been put in place to avert any future occurrence.

34. We have reactivated the Benue State Microfinance Bank, whose license was previously withdrawn by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

35. The Benue State University Teaching Hospital is currently undergoing structural and technical transformation for an optimal healthcare delivery system etc

“I can go on and on with some of the things we are doing within this short period of time in office.” he stated.

Governor Alia emphasized that despite inheriting a system in disarray, his administration had made remarkable progress without resorting to external borrowing.
“Let it be on record that we inherited a broken system, but we are gradually fixing it without borrowing a penny from anywhere.”

The CBJ's recognition of Governor Alia as their Grand Patron is a testimony of their confidence in his leadership and commitment to the state's development.

Governor Alia's dedication to steering Benue State toward economic growth and sustainability was evident throughout his address to the CBJ, where he reiterated his administration's unwavering commitment to uplifting the lives of Benue people.

The strides made within this relatively short time in office reflect an ambitious vision for the development of the Food Basket of the Nation, with efforts focused on surmounting challenges and laying the foundation for enduring progress.

The Governor's resolve and accomplishments also signal a promising trajectory for Benue State, inspiring hope for a brighter and more prosperous future under his pragmatic leadership.

It may interest you to know that the flag-off of the resettlement was done a few days ago in Mbagwen, Guma LGA, the ancestral homes of the IDPs.

Once the project is completed in a few months, they will be relocated from Makurdi (where they’re currently) to Guma.

The second pictures shows the prototype of what the partnership between President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia is building for the resettlement of 2 million IDPs in Benue State.

Every unit of the new building is going to be fully powered by solar electricity.

The resettlement plan is coming with state of the art schools, hospitals, security guards, markets, and skill Acquisition centers.

It is just a matter of months before all the IDPs in Benue State will be going back to their ancestral homes!

Help is finally here!

Politics / Ex-governor, Ortom Opened More Than 600 Bank Accounts But Handed Over Only 25 by Freestyl(m): 12:03pm On Oct 19, 2023
Ex-Governor, Ortom Opened More Than 600 Bank Accounts But Released Only 25 At Handover

The Benue State government has accused the immediate past administration of former Governor Samuel Ortom of operating more than 600 bank accounts for the state but only releasing 25 to his successor, Father Hyacinth Alia.

Speaking when the State Correspondents’ Chapel members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) paid him a visit at his office in Makurdi, on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Finance and Budget Planning, Michael Oglegba, said this was why Governor Hyacinth Alia froze all government accounts on assumption of office.

The finance commissioner said the governor was shown only 25 accounts when he took over office but information at the Nigerian Inter Bank System, however, showed that the state had over 600 accounts.

“When we came in, we asked for the accounts and bank statements and we were presented with about 25 bank accounts. A causal look at the Nigerian Inter Bank System showed that Benue Government had more than 600 accounts.

“So the Governor needed to freeze those accounts to know exactly what was happening,” he said.
Oglegba while commenting on the state debts profile, insisted that the Alia government inherited over N359billion debts which included that of the Local Government Arrears.

He said, “The debts owed by the state itself were in excess of N200billion. This includes local and foreign debts. However, the LGAs also have their own debts, unpaid salaries, pensions, gratuities and local contractors that made up the other N150billion.

“So the Alia administration has no reason to lie about the state debts. We will be doing ourselves a great disservice if we say we own monies that we do not own. When we need loans for example who will give us?”

Ortom, who exited office in May this year, had denied leaving a debt of N359billion.

The former governor, who spoke through his media aide, Terver Akase, had said the allegation was a mischief levelled against him and his eight years’ administration.

“The present government of Benue State is selling a narrative to unsuspecting people of the state that they inherited N359 billion as debt from the previous government led by Chief Ortom. This narrative is not only false but is also a deliberate stratagem to snooker the people. Governor Ortom was explicit in his handover speech that though the debt situation of the State Government at the time of his exit from office might appear to be on the high side (N187.56 billion).”

Politics / Benue: Governor Alia Unveils Game-changing Retirement Plan For Teachers (photos) by Freestyl(m): 3:32pm On Aug 04, 2023
In a momentous decision that promises to redefine the landscape of education, Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has given the green light to a groundbreaking policy, authorizing the implementation of a new retirement age and length of service for teachers across the state. With an unwavering commitment to advancing the quality of education, this bold move is set to revolutionize the teaching profession and provide educators with extended opportunities to shape the minds of future generations.

Embracing this visionary approach, Governor Alia's administration aims to create a dynamic educational environment where experienced teachers continue to thrive, nurturing the potential of every Benue student.

Setting the Stage for a New Era in Education

Under the visionary leadership of Governor Alia, Benue State is ushering in a new era for educators. A circular signed by the state's Head of Service, Dr. Moses Agbogbo Ode, announced that this new policy will be in effect from May 2023.

The initiative stems from the enactment of the Harmonized Retirement Age for Teachers by the Benue State House of Assembly, a landmark legislation that was signed into law by the previous administration without implementation.

A Progressive Approach

The heart of this new approval lies in the redefined age of retirement for teachers. Going forward, the retirement age for educators will be set at sixty-five (65) years, ensuring that experienced and dedicated educators have the opportunity to continue shaping young minds until a more mature age.

Accompanying the revised retirement age is the length of service pegged at forty (40) years. This measure ensures that educators have sufficient time to make a lasting impact in the lives of students, solidifying their legacy in the education system.

Flexibility in Implementation

The implementation of the harmonized retirement age and length of service marks a turning point for education officers and teachers alike. The boundaries that once constrained career progression have been lifted, granting teachers the freedom to explore a more extended tenure if desired. However, for those who may not wish to avail of this elongation scheme, they are still entitled to apply for retirement in accordance with the established Public Service Rules.

Upholding the Law

It is crucial to note that the Harmonized Retirement Age Law of 2023 takes precedence over any existing guidelines on the subject. Governor Alia's administration firmly believes that this legislation will empower teachers and enhance the overall quality of education within the state.

The approval of the new retirement age and length of service for teachers in Benue State is a monumental decision that highlights the government's commitment to fostering a robust and dynamic educational environment. With this visionary policy in place, the state is poised to become a beacon of educational excellence, paving the way for a brighter future for generations to come.

A Word from the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor

Sir Tersoo Kula, the Chief Press Secretary, conveyed the excitement surrounding this groundbreaking policy change. He expressed that Governor Alia's commitment to the betterment of the education sector is evident in this progressive step, and it reflects the administration's dedication to providing the best opportunities for both educators and students.

Politics / World Bank Commends Alia Over Successful Implementation Of NG-CARES Program by Freestyl(m): 2:13pm On Jul 14, 2023
Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has received commendations from the World Bank, over his role at ensuring the successful Implementation of the Nigerian Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus Program (NG-CARES), in Benue State.

The Governor received the commendation when the Independent Verification Agent Team sent by the World Bank visited the state to assess the level of implementation of the programme.

The NG-CARES Program is an initiative of the Nigerian government in collaboration with the World Bank to provide support to the most vulnerable households and businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Leader of the team, Dr. Ayopo Olotu, while acknowledging the successful implementation of the program in the State, also commended the result areas of the program for their cooperation, which according to him, has facilitated the verification exercise.

Receiving the delegation on behalf of the state government, the Ag. Director General, Benue State Planning Commission, Dr. Jerome Andohol, appreciated the Governor for his unwavering support for the program in the state.

He however, expressed concern over interference in the programme in the past by individuals, seeking to manipulate the system to gain cheap money.

Andohol urged such individuals to desist from act, saying the benefits of helping others always come back in unexpected ways.

Also in her remarks, the State Coordinator of the NG-CARES, Mrs. Jacyntha Tor-Wombo, while also appreciating Governor Alia and Dr Andohol for their support for the NG-CARES Program, acknowledged that although mistakes were made in the past, it has become paramount for the stakeholders to retrace steps in order to ensure the objectives of the program are achieved.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Benue State, Tersoo Kula, said the state was unable to qualify for any benefits of this programme few years back but was rather indebted to the tune of N265million for failure to implement the programme diligently.

“But with the success recorded by the implementation of the programme by the Alia led administration, there will be funds available for the state to pay back and qualify for the minimum grant of N500million as a result of continuous implementation of the programme,” the statement said.

Politics / Benue: If There Still Exist Shame In The Land – Tersoo Kula (Photos) by Freestyl(m): 12:02pm On Jul 05, 2023
It is a common perception that some politicians have scant consideration for integrity in their conduct but even the most shameless of them all will doff their hats for Samuel Ortom, the immediate past Governor of Benue State and his minions, especially, those who function shamelessly as his media handlers.

At a time the entire Benue State is yet to recover from the state of shock due to revelations of mindless plunder, primitive theft, unprecedented fraud, criminal neglect and utter kakistocracy perpetrated by the worst kleptocrats known to man, the handlers of the old order seek to mask their obvious failures by launching futile attacks on the barely one month old administration of Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacith Alia.

Sadly, the likes of Terver Akase and his co- travelers seem to wish away the scars of Ortom’s devastating regime of sorrow, tears and blood which turned a hitherto proud people into destitutes. The agony of workers and the plight of pensioners are still open sores inflicted by the soulless contraption headed by a self righteous and pretentious group. The fact that workers in Benue received salary alerts for the first time this year in June counts against the perfidious government of Samuel Ortom.

Moreover, the recent tours of government offices by Governor Alia and the shocking state of public infrastructure clearly showed that the affairs of the state were run by people who are subhuman. From the Benue State House of Assembly to the State Secretariat to the Liaison Office in Abuja, the story is the same as leaking roofs, cracked walls, non functional toilets and degrading surroundings. The case of the Government House residence is particularly pitiable with vandalized furniture, window blinds, electronics and other household appliances. This is besides the carting away of ALL VEHICLES including an ambulance and Press Crew bus attached to the office of the Governor. At the last count, 29 vehicles attached to the Governor's office are still nowhere to be found.

In saner climes, those who brought this state of affairs will either be cooling their heels in jail or be engaged in one form of restitution or the other. Unfortunately, here, we have ignoble image launderers trying to rub salt on the injuries they inflicted on the people. Our society has allowed people who deliberately starved workers by converting their wages to family bazaars to open their foul mouths too wide. People who performed Goebellian roles while the state was bled to near death for eight years are sudden critics of a one month old correctional government. People who failed to pay wages for upwards of 10 months but went ahead to recruit thousands more as a booby trap to the succeeding administration are now attempting an assessment after one month!.

Akase’s laughable and pathetic comparison between Alia’s one month old government and Ortom’s maladministration brings his mental health into question. He has forgotten that Ortom’s first action as Governor was to borrow money from commercial banks at ridiculous interest rates in the name of paying workers and “ building infrastructure “. This was followed by the release of N28billion bailout funds which grew wings. The often repeated “ achievement” of repainting the School of Nursing and its subsequent re-accreditation are mere tokenisms.

Is it not pathetic that Ortom's Akase is still mentioning renovations eight years later? It would be a different matter if a new school was built. In any case, the Alia blueprint isn’t meant for completion in 30 days. At the appropriate time, the people will have ample opportunities to assess their Governor using the right parameters.

It is amusing how a government that surreptitiously passed a humongous pension law for its benefit but failed to pay people who spent 35years in service will turn around and comment on the reforms of its successor. They should be reminded that the verdict of rejection passed on them by the people is still in force.

Where do they find the moral strength to still talk? Where is their shame? If there still exist shame in the land!

* Governor's Promise Fulfilled, Hope Restored in Benue State
* The Era of Long Wait for Salaries Has Ended
* Fr. Alia Nicknamed “Governor Talk & Do”

Benue State, Nigeria - In an outpouring of joy and relief, workers in Benue State are celebrating as they receive salary alerts after enduring 11 long months of financial uncertainty under the former governor, Mr. Samuel Ortom, who owed workers for 5 months in 2017, December 2022, and from January to May 2023 in many MDAs.

The former governor, Mr. Ortom, had left the state's workforce without pay, but the newly elected Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has swiftly delivered on his promise to prioritize the welfare of civil servants in the state.

Recall that during Governor Alia’s Democracy Day Broadcast on June 12, 2023, he was quoted as saying, "...as from 25th of this month, Civil Servants should start expecting alerts for their payments."

Amidst the jubilant atmosphere, the fulfillment of Governor Alia's Democracy Day pledge to start paying from June 25th has surpassed the expectations of many skeptical workers and opposition parties. While some doubted the possibility of receiving salaries on a Sunday, hope was rekindled when the long-awaited alerts began pouring into their bank accounts.

The jubilation that has swept through the state is electrifying, as many happy workers have nicknamed Fr. Alia as Governor Talk & Do. Workers who had faced severe financial hardships and endured countless challenges under the last administration can now breathe a sigh of relief. Families, burdened with mounting debts and unmet needs, are finally given a glimmer of hope for a brighter future.

Governor Alia's commitment to restoring the dignity and well-being of workers has garnered immense praise and admiration from all corners of Benue and beyond. This signifies a fresh chapter in the state's history, one filled with promise, unity, and prosperity.

Speaking about the development, Governor Alia expressed his deep gratitude to the resilient and patient workforce of Benue State. "You have shown immense strength and dedication despite the challenging circumstances," he declared. "The era of long wait for salaries has ended in our dear state, and I assure you that your welfare will remain a top priority for this administration."

Governor Alia emphasized that the fulfillment of salary payments is not merely a one-time gesture but a commitment to sustainable change. His administration is determined to restore trust between the government and the people, fostering an environment of transparency, accountability, and equitable distribution of resources.

The news has not only resonated with the workers but has also uplifted the spirits of the wider population. Communities are buzzing with renewed hope and enthusiasm as the positive ripple effects of this landmark development are felt across the state.

The revival of economic activities, increased consumer spending and improved overall well-being is expected to inject new vitality into Benue's social fabric.

As Benue State moves forward with new-found optimism, Governor Alia's vision of a prosperous and inclusive society seems more attainable than ever before. The immense joy and relief experienced by the workers since Sunday is a testimony to the power of progressive leadership, determination, and the resilience of the Benue people.

In the face of adversity, Benue State has emerged stronger, united, and poised to embark on a transformative journey towards progress under the able leadership of Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the Executive Governor of Benue State.

The payment of salaries is not just a financial transaction; it symbolizes a renewed sense of hope and a shared commitment to building a better future for all Benue residents.

With this significant milestone achieved, the people of Benue can now look forward to a more promising era, where their hard work and dedication is honored and the aspirations of a brighter tomorrow are within reach.
