God bless you. You said it all. the other day, one idiot was even bragging he will pay 200k for a writing job and you must write 5 original articles daily. Pls where is that done? at the end of the day they will just trick newbie writers to steal contents from them and give them a dumb reason they wont pay them. The best thing is just to have couple of platforms yo write for and believe me you can make over 300k monthly. No be all these 1 Naira per word gig that they still wont even pay you. Currently delivering for up to 6 media owners in Nigeria. at the end of the month if i collect my pay its just worth it than all these rubbish.

Well, we all know that most of the original clients are foreigners, and they pay in foreign currencies (dollar/euro/pounds).

Note, there are also local blogs that might want to employ writers. For local blogs, I believe a minimum of #2 - #3 per word is ideal.

If one is writing 2000 words every day, that's between 120k to 180k per month. If Sunday is free, that's between 100k to 150k per month.

A 2k words will take an average or good writer between 4 to 7hrs to write; I believe that's fair in the Nigerian context.

However, when it comes to foreign clients, I believe a minimum of $10 to $15 is okay for 1000 words.

Why? Because average unskilled labor in the US takes a minimum of $7 per hour. At the same time, a 1000 words article will take nothing less than 2hrs from you, if not more. That's like $5 - $7per hour for your skills.

But then again, these things are peculiar. The above rate should be for a usual blog post, not some research and technical content topics like Casino, Automobiles, Health, etc., or special contents like SOP, Assignment, etc.

Also, if it is copywriting, it's another different ball game.

Some articles will require you to infuse different but many keywords, including html tags, mehn! one should bill them o.

In short, the more difficult the job appears, the higher one should demand pay. Short ETA too should come with extra pay.

As for Nigerian clients (I mean the middlemen here), I believe the minimum should be #3, but that's where the problem lies.

Some may collect a job of 1000 words, for $30 ≈ #15,000, instead of paying the writer like #10k, which is like #10 per word; they would still want to maintain their useless #2 per word.

Some will want to pay their writer #10 per word, but such writer will still contract the job out. Hence, the rate would continue to reduce.

My advice, if you are in this game for long and you know your onions, ensure you find one Naija client that has constant gigs to keep body and soul together, then use the rest of your free time to look for gigs from the whites. I know it can be hard, but it worths it.
