PoliticsRe: Re- State Burial For Ojukwu by FSU: 9:18pm On Jan 23, 2018
affable4:
Sometimes we make comments out of hatred and end up betraying our ignorance and foolishness.
For the simple reason that Ojukwu was granted a presidential pardon, he deserves the state burial and more. He didn't die as an enemy of the state. So, why the confusion, pain and hatred?
We all come here to say things we have little idea of when we can actually broaden our view by just reading.
I challenge anybody to a debate on all this noise about biafran war and what not.
Are you aware that Nzeogwu died at the initial stage of the war? His corpse was found by the Nigerian military and given a full military burial? Why not Ojukwu? Why so much hatred for a man that stood for one Nigeria until the killings became unbearable?
Are you aware that Ojukwu ordered Igbos back to the north where killings was resumed before the declaration of Biafra?
Where you aware that during the coup in Kaduna, Ojukwu was in charge of amoury and refused Nzeogwu access to amours?
Do you know that Nzeogwu and Obasanjo were best of pals?
What else is it that you don't know? If you know better, bring it on. I challenge you.
Instead seeking for way forward for our country Nigeria, we are all going over what ought to hv been buried through true reconciliation and eschew marginalisation.
Wake up Nigerian youth. There is so much divide just to impede our progress.
Let Biafra rest, let Ojukwu rest. Let the leaders do what is right, agitations will fade out and even boko haram will be a thing of the past.
Peace.
Please ignore all these hate-filled, bile-pained, stomach-churning, eye-scratching, throat-bloated, pus-eared Afonja regurgitates especially Alariiwo and his many pseudonyms.
PoliticsRe: Why Are Igbo Businessmen Not Into Cattle Ranching Yet? by FSU: 8:46pm On Jan 23, 2018
Igbo ranchers should go for Muturu (dwarf short horn) and N'dama (dwarf long horns). Both are trypanotolerant.

PoliticsRe: Why Are Igbo Businessmen Not Into Cattle Ranching Yet? by FSU: 8:41pm On Jan 23, 2018
If we have ranches in Nigeria, it will open up another line of business: supply and sales of tse-tse fly insecticides. We can look to countries like India for leads on how they manage this parasite and still maintain the largest herd of cattle in the world.
PoliticsRe: Why Are Igbo Businessmen Not Into Cattle Ranching Yet? by FSU: 8:38pm On Jan 23, 2018
African Bos taurus includes two groups, humpless shorthorns and longhorns. They mostly inhabit West and Central Africa. Both these groups are small in size and their productivity is lower compared to most of the zebu cattle populations in tropical areas (Rege, 1999). However, they have unique evolutionary adaptation to harsh climate (Hansen, 2004) and various endemic diseases (Murray et al., 1984; Mattioli et al., 2000). One of these adaptations is their documented tolerance to trypanosomosis (Roberts and Gray, 1973), a parasitic disease due to infection with Trypanosoma sp. whose vector is the tsetse fly.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4478499/

Utility: They are used for socio-cultural purposes. In Igboland these cattle are traditionally sacred and considered as properties of the local deities or they are dedicated to a shrine. Muturu cows are seldom milked. If milked their yield per year was reported to be 421 kg. The friendly animals are sometimes used for work. As beef cattle they perform well, dressing out at 64%. Some growth characteristics of the Muturu are summarised in Table 1 along with those for the N'Dama breed. Age of first calving of the Muturu is 635 days compared to that of the N'Dama 684 days. Calving interval for N'Dama was 350 compared to 363 days for Muturu (Roberts and Gray 1973). Although the weight of the Muturu is low as compared to many zebu and sanga breeds, their high fertility, tolerance to trypanosomosis, and cultural roles make them an important breed in their traditional breeding areas.

This is speaking about the Igbo cow also known as muturu (shorthorn) in Hausa. This was the indigenous cattle of West Africa until the Fulani invasion and introduction of the Zebu

Congratulations, you managed to find 3 semi-literates to endorse your obvious lack of reading comprehension skills.

If you knew how to read properly, you’d have realised I already answered your objections, by pointing out that even Fulani cattle don’t have full resistance, and by noting that this partial resistance involves tradeoffs in lower meat and milk productivity.

If you weren’t as lazy as you’re quick to fire off uninformed responses, you would have done a quick Google search on the topic of how Fulani nomads cope with tsetse fly, and you would have learned that they only bring their cattle down south during the dry season when fly populations are lower, and that even then they stick to special routes with lower risks of trypanosomiasis.

You and your admirers exemplify precisely what I was talking about, substituting empty tribalistic posturing for even the slightest effort at acquiring real understanding, even though all the necessary information is but a search away if only you sought to actually look for it. Good luck substituting fairy tales about “special” tribal gifts for “business” for the hard scientific understanding acquired over decades of careful research! I look forward to hearing about the flourishing herds of Holsteins being reared by wise Igbo traders in the south-east!
I know you were not addressing me but I hope I can jump in all the same. The trade-offs you noted may be correct. But it does also apply to every Fulani cattle in the south, regardless of who rears them, Fulani or Igbo. Thus, if the Fulani still find it profitable despite tse-tse fly, then why not the Igbo? In any case, the Igbo cow people alluded to is endemic to the south and is almost 100% resistant to tse-tse fly. The southern cattle rearers only need to breed more of those. Moreover, there have been a lot of research to tackle tse-tse fly and its disease, trypanosomiasis, including, trapping, sterile insect techniques, use of resistant breeds, and actual drugs. All of these preventive/control measures will be more effective if the animals are kept in one place, rather than dragging them all over the damn place. It looks like you are bitter about something. Do Fulanis rear Holsteins?

Tse tse fly kills only susceptible cattle breeds. The regular Fulani cattle that they bring and graze in the south like the ones in the above photos are either resistant or tolerant. So is the local Igbo cow.

PoliticsRe: Dr Aroms Aigbehi Calls For Boycott Of Cow Meat. by FSU: 5:10pm On Jan 11, 2018
I would say boycott ''northern beef'', rather than all beef as there's some beef production already in the south. Start raising more beef in the south now. Already there are a number of animal farms being established in the East. I believe same goes for the West and South South. Quick examples of these are Pilgrim Ranch in Isuikwuato Abia State, and Fapelo farms ltd. in Enugu State

See picture of a modest ranch at Fapelo farms

Igbos should stop some (NOT ALL) of their stupid buying and selling at Alaba and elsewhere outside Igboland and invest more in Animal husbandry in the South, which is a real productive sector.
