So of course...per capita GDP would be less for Nigeria. Then say GDP per capita. |

tactius: 1.Sweden's GDP is many times larger than Nigeria's because Sweden does not rely on oil...they rely on industries.
2. In Nigeria, when it is time to talk about the economy, all I hear from Southerners and Northerners is how to divide the national cake. Neither side is interested in improving manufacturing.
3.In a country where a large percentage of people steal power and then expect the DISCOS to supply power 24//7....(and corruption in the DISOCS worsens the matter)... Sweden's GDP is not even up to twice larger than Nigeria. Or did you mean GDP per capita? Regardless, Nigeria"s problem is misplaced priorities and culture of corruption and incompetence.

Exactly. 99% of Nigeria-obtained PhDs are useless to Nigeria's science and tech progression. It's ether they are plagiarizing or essentially repeating research already published elsewhere, claiming to add Nigerian context or perspective. No novelty, no innovation. Still, those who studied abroad and returned home are unable to make meaningful impact due to a myriad of "Nigerian factors". |

I poke a hole in that claim because 99% of Harvard graduates are not even a quarter as rich as Bill Gate and Mark. So, it was not because they went to Harvard (and dropped out) that they are rich today. |

seguun: Ask yourself how come historically traders from those West African regions all migrated to Yorubaland to purchase Kolanut?
Also it doesn't mean there would be no form of Kolanut speicie in those regions at all. Like we have a particular apple speicie in tropical Africa, but we all know the real deal when we talk of apple and where it originated from. They came because of production volume, not because of species origination. I am reading an article in which Kenyans came to Nigeria and saw Cola being used/celebrated massively by Nigerians (Igbos) and were so shocked that a plant that grows in the wild in their country has such commercial value in Nigeria. Did the kola growing wild in Kenya originate from Yorubaland? In fact, scientifically speaking there is no biogeographical or ecological explanation for a small space of land as Yoruba (actually not all Yorubaland, but mainly Ondo, Ekiti and Osun) to be the exclusive origin of a plant species. What is different between the ecology of Yorubaland vs that of Edoland, Igboland and Cameroon, etc, to warrant Cola species to originate exclusively in Yorubaland? Kola is native to Tropical Africa, especially West and Central Africa, which includes Yorubaland and Igboland. |

seguun: There is no way the Ooni would mean only Yorubaland plant Kolanut, we all know just about any plant can be planted anywhere in the world with the right technics...The Ooni was surely talking about the Origin of the crop but was only speaking in a somewhat classical manner.
The atmosphere wouldn't permit him to start delving into the detailed analysis of the Oriigin of Species. Every student of history would grab the Oonis's gist without any qualms Kolanut (Cola acuminata/nitida) is not native to Yoruba. It is native to Tropical Africa extending from West Africa to Congo and East Africa. |
Culture › Re: Ooni: Make deeper researches about Yoruba-Igbo family ties by FSU: 11:10pm On May 10, 2019 |
seguun: Because you now plant it in Igboland doesn't mean it is native to your land. Many crops we plant in Nigeria today were not native to West Africa...i.e Maize, Pawpaw, Casava etc were all brought by the Portuguese. Neither I nor the Oni was talking about origin of crop species. I doubt The Oni knows that subject. I admit, Yorubas grow more kolanut than Igbos. Ya''ll should just admit he was wrong in saying ONLY Yorubas grow kolanut. But Igbos spend more money on kolanuts than Yorubas. Without Igbos, your kolanut farmers will die of hunger. Case closed. |

Now go back to page 1 and you will see this quote from the Oni We Yoruba have strong ties with Igbos because no Igbo man can do without kolanut which only grows in Yorubaland It's really easy to see that you are one semi-illiterate, ignorance-reeking, bush boy living in a village in Ogbomosho. |

If u don't knw how to read give ur phone to an educated person to read to u, mumu. You are very foolish. The US produces oil and still imports more oil from abroad. Why is that so? Similarly, Igbos use kolanut for virtually all traditional ceremonies. They don't produce enough for their domestic consumption and have to import from Yorubas who produce more than they need. That is different from the Oni saying that Igbos don't grow kolanut. You, and unfortunately the Oni, lack basic understanding of economic and agricultural production dynamics. |

Dareal90s: Were u alive then? He knows the history of his fore fathers and to prove him right, y is it that u people purchase Kolanuts from Yoruba's all d way from Igbo land? Even ur Igwe can't deny it. What are you arguing? That Igbos don't grow kolanut? Then you need to travel out of your hut in Ogbomosho. Yoruba may produce more than Igbo and therefore will sell to Igbos trading on kolanut. That does not mean there are not 100s of 1000s of kolanut trees in Igboland. I have just mentioned that my grandfather had 5 trees and that was modest back in our village in Abia State. |

Dareal90s: We ain't talking about d specie, kolanut in general grows more in South West nd d facts ar there for u to see even if we base it on species.
Those who rated SW as d highest producer of kola have their reasons nd the statistics behind it, we don't base it on weda ur ancestor has 1000 trees or millions of trees.
Hausas grows it, Igbos grows it, Ijaws grows it, but the real kola deql is from Yoruba land.
The fact is in Nigeria even west Africa Yoruba's grows it most , name d specie u will find it in excess here, kolanuts grows like weed here.
Just like u comparing d production of garri in Ijebu land with Ikewre land. The Oni was not even talking about quantity between Yoruba vs others. He was saying quite clearly ONLY the Yoruba produce it and I quote because no Igbo man can do without kolanut which only grows in Yorubaland , which is WRONG. Do you get the difference? |

You can also check other sites. Google is ur friend. Kolanut does not only grow in Yoruba land. It grows in the East and there are 100s of 1000s of the tree in Igboland. My grandfather alone had more than 5 kolanut trees. Do Yorubas grow more kolanut plants than Igbos? Perhaps yes. BTW, The role that the Oni is playing to unite Nigerians is great and comendable. However, he is human, and can make mistakes with facts. I hope the Eze Nri corrected him on that misfact. Based on this article, the Oni might be referring specifically to Cola acumulataKola-nut is a tropical tree crop with over 20 species, out of which, Cola nitida (Gbanja) and Cola acumulata (Abata) are the two main species grown in Nigeria. Cola nitida however is the only kola-nut of inter-regional and international trade. While the consumption of Cola acumulata is greatly cherished by the Yoruba of south-west of Nigeria, the people of the northern and southeast Nigeria prefer the Cola nitida. http://www.krepublishers.com/02-Journals/JSS/JSS-22-0-000-10-Web/JSS-22-1-000-10-Abst-PDF/JSS-22-1-001-10-712-Ojo-O-S/JSS-22-1-001-10-712-Ojo-O-S-Tt.pdf |

sgtponzihater1: Medical Doctor is just another profession. The aim is to save lives and not wealth. A prudent individual will live on 1300 pounds monthly, if living in a 2 bedroom flat in the UK. The remaining can be used to invest and live the good life. If it's 3800, that a whole 2500 to play with. That's not poor at all. Let's be objective! See my comment immediately above. In any country in the world, Med doctors are among the highest paid. Yes, it is a profession but not just another profession (the way you put it). Poverty is of course a relative term. However, if you make enough to feed and pay rent and other bills and can't save anything for tomorrow, I don't see how that is not poverty. Is it until you beg for food that you consider yourself poor? |

A new med doc (not talking about interns or residents) in the US earns anywhere from $120K ( approx. 91,100 GBP) per annum and above. That's approx. 7590 GBP per month. |

According to our source, Ifeanyi married his wife because he needed papers to set up an African Restaurant and he was never into drugs and fraud. However things took a different twist after a heated argument with his wife, led to his arrest. It was further alleged that the Nigerian man was killed shortly after his arrest by the police, as his Filipino wife alleged that he is a criminal.
Our source said;
"This is what i mean when i was criticizing relationship with filippinos. This guy is my friend who married Filipino because he needed papers to open business. He have african restaurants that run well but had issues with his psycho Filipino. She went to police, only God knows what she signed there, arrest of her hubby or dead sentence of her hubby.
