Nigeria1,

Create equal regions (or states) and let each develop at their pace. If Igboland is treated fairly, millions of Igbos elsewhere will go home. The more you cheat them by such logic as your propound here, the more they leave to ''enjoy'' what you enjoy in your place, thereby swelling your own population.

Vigasimple,

As far is tribe is concerned, no argument about which is the largest (IGBO).

Who has a small population? Igbo is the largest ethnic group in Nigeria. Count all Igbos in Nigeria and see. If they have equal development in Nigeria, all those Igbos who help to populate Lagos (35-40% of Lagos is Igbo), Kano (15-20 % of Kano is Igbo), Port Harcourt (30-35 %), Ibadan (5-10%) , Jos (10-20 %), Kaduna (15-20%), Abuja (25-30 %) etc, will go back home. How many Yorubas or Hausas live in Igbo land?

nigeria1:
FSU , where is the fear of God in you,  My question is the population of your so call zone equal,  the answer is NO,  So why on earth , do you want zone to have the same number of state,  It can not be,  Fear God my brother,   It is only logical to create state based on population and not the imagine of zone of some people. We should be talking about justice and not checking
Have you had any census in Nigeria? Was that thing a census you had? Any census that disregards tribe and religion in Nigeria is null and void.

Is he not similar to men like Ehindero who steal and yet claim to be born again? Or late pastor Tunji Akanni who was Adeboye's senior pastor but was engaged in fraud in INEC, as well as having a secret family. Make I hear word o'jare.

Nigeria is made up of 6 regions. The only logical thing to do is to create equal number of states in all the regions (2 states for the Igbos, one state for others and no state for the north west) or failing that, abrogate the state and let us have regions only. All these one in penny state will not work

North East =6 states +1=7
N West =7 states+0=7
N Central=6 states+1=7
S West=6 states+1=7
S South = 6 states+1=7
S East = 5 states+2=7

Two leaders of ethnic self determination groups, Otunba Gani Adams of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) and Dr. Ralph Uwazuruike of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), this morning met at the Abule Ado, Lagos residence of the former, on the way forward.

Welcoming his guest, Otunba Adams expressed happiness at seeing Uwazuruike, who he described as “my brother and co-traveller, a great and determined warrior and leader of men”.

Otunba Adams used the visit of the MASSOB leader to thank activists who in one way or the other contributed “to our eventual release”.

“Special mention must be made of the courageous men and women who in the face of great threats and great risk to their lives and safety, launched and subtained an aggressive campaign (both locally and internationally) for our release.

“Comrade Ayodele Akele is the leader of this group of brave and daring individuals who began their intervention under the banner of Free Otunba Gani Adams Campaign Committee (FOGAC) before metarmophosing into the Coalition for the Freedom of Dokubo and Uwazuruike (CORDU)”, he stated.

He called on the federal government to stop attacking self determination groups and their leaders, stressing that the government was fighting a lost and unnecessary battle by doing so.

Otunba Adams emphathised with MASSOB and Uwazuruike, saying that Igbo people were yet to be fully reintegrated into the Nigerian nation. “People still view the average Igbo man with distrust and suspicion,” he added.

He, however, maintained that dialogue remains the key instrument of diplomacy. “We need to realise and respect the rights of every individual and group if we are to avoid the kind of problems of the past”, he submitted.

Gold discovered in Kebbi
From Saka Ibrahim in Birnin-Kebbi, 11.05.2007
Monday, November 5, 2007

Kebbi State government has discovered a gold mine in Gari-Awal, in Fakai Local Government area of the state.

The gold field, which covers  several hectares, was discovered two months ago.

About 3,000 illegal miners from all over the country have already besieged the village, mining gold.

The state Governor, Saidu Dakingari, along with the Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Sani Sami and top government officials who visited the site, said the discovery was an act of God and a blessing to the state.

Dakingari said he was grateful to God that the discovery was during his time, which will definitely boost revenue.

“I was elated, because the economy of Kebbi State would  be buoyant. The discovery of gold is an act of God and a blessing,” he said, adding that  the federal ministry of mines will be adequately informed, so that it will take over the site and standardise its operation.

“What we are looking for is to legalise it. We will tell the Federal Ministry of Mines of the danger of illegal mining. And the danger of people digging up to 30 meters down and so on,” he said.Alhaji Dakingari promised his government will provide necessary facilities that will enhance exploitation of the mineral resources an for the miners such as road, water and clinic at the village, adding that with the provision of amenities will improve the welfare of the people.

The Emir of Zuru Alhaji Sami appealed to those in the area especially those involve in gold mine to allow peace to reign.

He advised them to follow due process and abide by the state and local government laws.

The chairman of the local government Alhaji Musa Diko Kalgo said the local government had deployed security agency to the gold site the keep peace and also monitor the activity of the miners.

Alhaji Kalgo appealed to state government to allow the local government construct and access road and clinic in the area.

One of the illegal miners Abdullahi Maiturare told this day that the mining activities in the area had empowered him economically, saying he had been getting between N15,000 and N20,000 naira weekly.

ICPC quizzes ex-NDLEA boss - Over missing N29m, other exhibits - May declare 9 senior officials wanted
By Festus Ojudun - 05.11.2007

THE Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) may declare nine senior officers of the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) wanted over alleged disappearance of 168,400 euro (about N29 million) and other missing currency exhibits in their custody.
This was disclosed to the Nigerian Tribune by an official of the commission, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Former chairman of the NDLEA, Alhaji Bello Lafiagi, was quizzed last Wednesday at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja in connection with the alleged fraud.
He was released on bail pending the time other members of his team while he was in charge of the anti-drug agency would show up at the commission’s headquarters.
While Alhaji Lafiagi honoured the invitation of the commission, nine other officers of the NDLEA invited for interrogation on the matter have refused to show up at the commission’s headquarters despite official letters written to their agencies.
The NDLEA had in October 2005 arrested one Onoche Ikenna in connection with alleged drug peddling and the task force, set up by Alhaji Lafiagi, was mandated to look into the alleged involvement of Ikenna in drug business.
One Samuel Gadzama, head of NDLEA investigations unit and some others, were alleged to have carried out a search at the Lagos home of Ikenna on Friday, October 28, 2005 and in the course of the search, drugs weighing 3.2 kilogrammes and some currencies were allegedly recovered.
It was discovered that in a sharp departure from the normal practice of the NDLEA, Ikenna, who was supposed to have been charged directly from the prison to the court, based on the total kilogrammes of drugs found in his house, was released on bail after five days in detention.
It was alleged in a petition sent to ICPC that Ikenna was not charged to court throughout the tenure of Alhaji Lafiagi as the NDLEA chairman.
It was learnt that the new chairman of NDLEA, Alhaji Ahmadu Giade, took the suspect (Ikenna) to court.
At the commencement of the criminal charges preferred against him by NDLEA, Ikenna’s lawyer informed the court that some items removed from the house of his client, especially 168,400 euro, were missing from the exhibit deposed to by NDLEA in the court.
Following this discovery, Ikenna, through his lawyers, wrote a petition to the ICPC notifying the commission of the missing foreign currency and N903,400.
It was based on this petition that ICPC operatives stormed the NDLEA office in Lagos to unravel the mystery surrounding the disappearance of the currencies as alleged by Ikenna.
Apart from the former NDLEA boss who has shown up at the ICPC headquarters, other NDLEA operatives linked with the alleged theft include: Usman Amali, an SSS operative who served as a Special Assistant to Alhaji Lafiagi; You. K. Abasi, Femi Oloruntoba, Chief Prosecutor, NDLEA; Ayo Amupitan, and Samuel Gadzama.
Others being investigated and invited by ICPC for questioning are: H. Gagari, I. A. Saba, H. Garuba and Julie Raymond.
Sources at the ICPC headquarters told the Nigerian Tribune that Gadzama had, in his written statement, linked the special assistant to the former chairman of NDLEA to the missing money.

Other officers of the NDLEA in their statements, it was learnt, indicted the former NDLEA boss and his special assistant on the matter and it was also discovered at the NDLEA office in Lagos that Samuel Gadzama had been placed on indefinite suspension by the current management of the anti-drug agency in connection with the missing funds.
Though it has not been officially confirmed, some NDLEA officials who have volunteered information to the ICPC said that the missing funds were allegedly taken by some top management staff of the agency during the tenure of the immediate past administration.

Etteh’s stubbornness shocks her teacher

CAJETAN MMUTA, Asaba and ABIODUN FELIX, Osogbo

FORMER House of Representatives Speaker, Mrs. Patricia Olubunmi Etteh’s form two teacher, Professor Olatunde Makanju, has berated the lawmaker’s stubbornness, saying "I never believed that we could create such a monster."

The renowned Professor of Psychology, University of Lagos, is not happy with his former student at the Ayedade Grammar School, Ikire in Irewole local government of Osun State, and other lawmakers over Etteh’s intransigence.

The university don and Capo of the National Association of Seadogs (NAS) expressed dissatisfaction in an interview with newsmen shortly after delivering his speech on "Achieving a nation of our dream-Change is Possible," at the Fourth Raph Opara Memorial Lecture held weekend at the Leisure Home Asaba the Delta State capital.

According to him, the level of stubbornness and defiance exhibited by Etteh and others in the house of representatives which resulted in the confusion that led to the sudden and avoidable death of one of the lawmakers despite repeated calls by most Nigerians for her to resign, "calls for great worry over the pitiable political gymnastics and a clear picture of how much the nation’s crop of leaders can sacrifice its citizens for their own personal greed."

Prof. Makanju said the undue lure for lucre and fight against corruption "is a big battle that requires all to join hands to tackle" the demeaning monster from all fronts such that every bad human element would be flushed out in order "to win the country that is destined to be great with its abundant human and material resources back" to its original foundation and glory."

"We thank you (guests) for appreciating the little that the National Association of Seadogs is able to do, to try and move this country forward. It is a big battle and unless we all come together and join hands, like our Barrister (Akpo Mudiaga Odje) said they are fighting on many fronts, some of us must also join him so that we can take the battle and win back this country that is destined to be great. We have the resources both human and material and therefore we must wash out all these elements that are ready to bring us (Nigerians) down. You may not believe it, that, I was one of the happiest people watching how the Speaker (Etteh) was forced to resign. Why? Like I was telling my friend, I never believed that we could create such a monster. I taught her in secondary at class two and I could never believe the stubbornness that was displayed despite the fact that everybody, in Nigeria was saying, for God’s sake, go. And that is the kind of thing that we have. People who are ready to, you know, just sacrifice all of us for their own personal greed", he stated.

While extolling the sterling virtues of late Raph Opara, formerly a broadcaster and actor, he said the lecture was in order to keep his faith alive and continue to provide a medium to give vent to the views for which he steadfastly held throughout his life.

He also used the occasion to debunk the false impression created in certain quarters that NAS is a secret cult group but said that it is a body in the forefront of the battle to establish a just and egalitarian society in Nigeria leading to a nation that would be strong, prosperous and peaceful as well as true giant in the comity of nations.

On his part, Barrister Odje who spoke extensively on the topic of the lecture said the collapse of various governments and all forms of initiatives were due to the hydra-headed issue of corruption, insisting that for the nation to survive in the present fight against the malaise all the anti-corruption institutions and reforms must be strengthened.

He also condemned the situation where the government of the day operate under the EFCC Act at the expense of the common laws of the land especially as it borders on section 36 (5) of the constitution which gives every person the presumption of innocence until found guilty for committing crime.

Barr. Odje, therefore, called for political will among all in the fight against the scourge of corruption instead of the perceived use of corruption to fight the menace.

Meanwhile, Ikire, Osun State, hometown of former Speaker House of Representatives, Hon. Patricia Olubunmi Etteh, was over the weekend an admixture of feelings as residents of the town expressed divergent views over the forced resignation of their daughter from the exalted position of the number Four citizen of the country.

Etteh, who resigned last week as speaker following her indictment by the Daniel Idoko panel set up to investigate the N628million naira scandal allegedly used to renovate her official quarters, represents Irewole/Ayedire/Isokan Federal Constituency, Osun State in the Lower House.

Etteh who was first elected on the platform of the then Alliance for Democracy (AD) in 1999, was elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2003 and re-elected for a Third Term in 2007.

Although her election in the April 21 general election is being challenged at the Elections Petitions Tribunal by Action Congress (AC) candidate, Mrs Ayo Omidiran, some residents of the town are of the view that Etteh would remain in the house.

Ganiyu Adelakun who claims to be one of the leaders of the PDP in Irewole local government opined that removal of Etteh from the House would amount to killing a fly with a sledge hammer.

But Osun AC’s director of Research and Strategy, Sunday Akere is of the view that Etteh has no moral justification to remain in the House, hence his wish that the Elections Petitions Tribunal would uphold the party’s petition before it and nullify Etteh’s election at the polls.

But the 83year old mother of the embattled former speaker, Mrs Atoke Alabi has accepted the fall of her daughter philosophically.

In a recent chat with newsmen in her Ikire home, the octogenarian stated that since her daughter was not born a Speaker, her removal would not in any way affect her status as a responsible individual who has brought smiles to the people of her constituency.

She however cursed those who she said were behind her daughter’s ordeal with a declaration that her daughter would soon be vindicated.

Etteh’s country home located off Ikire-Ibadan expressway was devoid of any hustle and bustle when Daily Champion visited over the weekend as only a two security personnel were seen guarding the modest building.

now that it's time for low blows, what do you know about the north, virtually all the igbo people in the north are traders courtesy of religious riots. yoruba's tend to be safer as most are muslims so apart from northern minority tribes who else do you think populates the skilled labour market Igbos? na yamhuh?
Also only oppressed "south-southerners" will go to the east to seek employment in banks. we all know shit ain't going on there except trading. But all this is by the way-side. I've grew up in the north, schooled at ibadan and i have stayed for at least 6 months in all Geo-political zones., i work with unicef so i know my Shit.I've probably contributed to some of the stuff you're Quoting!!. all the time i've spent in yoruba land isn't up to 10 years so i ain't no cocoon boy angry.P.s. because clothes and spare parts are being sold at onitsha and Oil is being exploited in rivers state doesn't mean you should equate commercial hustle and bustle with education. i brought the issue up because the only thing the south west has is limestone(ogun state) yet a lot of shit goes down and yes even outside lagos. I have to stop here. my suppressed tribalistic tendencies have been awakened. now i have to fast in penance for the next 3 weeks. I will never allow my self to visit this topic again. angry angry angry
1. According to you, virtually all the Igbos in the North are traders. Now this shows your warped sense of analysis. Many of the so-called traders are elderly people with children. These children attend universities in the North. It was in the North that Igbos like Zik, Ojukwu, Cyprian Ekwensi, Rochas Okorocha, the minister of information in OBJs govt (I forgot his name) and hundreds of thousands of Igbos were born. Many of these people schooled there. Thus, Igbo traders have their kids in universities in the North. You should ask yourself why more Igbo people are being admitted in unis and polys than others. Do you think all of those are Igbos based in Igboland?

2. Being a trader is more dignifying than being an Agbero which many Yoruba youths are today. In Port Harcourt, Kano etc, the Yorubas own most of the mamaput (those dirty olonjes) and are mostly taxi drivers. Is that more dignifying than being a trader?

3. You are still to define which skilled labour the Yoruba populate. Assumming they populate in banking, what of other human endevours? Do they populate those too?

3. A yoruba with all your claims of education was CBN governor before Soludo. The banking system practically collapsed under the Yoruba CBN gov.

3. Most of the banks run by Yorubas were deceptive family banks that collapsed soon afterwards. Societe Generale Bank (Saraki) is a living example. Is that the education?

4. I have had Yorubas as class mates. They are not in any way better than anyone. I schooled at UNA primary school Inalende and at Loyola school in Molete, both in Ibadan. I know the Yoruba people and their ways like the palm of my hands. So quit your noise making.

5. I want you to understand that a significant proportion of business men in Nigeria are graduates. Unemployment pushed them into trading. Does that make them uneducated?

6. You claim to have travelled out of your small world in Yorubaland. Now, apart from Lagos, can you say candidly that any economic activities go on in other Yoruba towns more than Aba, Onitsha and Nnewi?

7. Lagos is a conglomerate of all Nigerians. Thus, the Yoruba cannot arrogate all the economic activities taking place there to themselves. As a matter of fact, it is known that 30-35 % of Lagos population is Igbo. Remove this and remove the hausa, Edo and Niger Delta people in Lagos and lets talk what is left of the rump of Yoruba there.

Ewu, educated Yoruba who is better than others.

You seem to have misconstrued what I meant by "dominates". maybe what i should have said was; predominant. my "dominate" means no of skilled labourers. Is it politics that made the south-west a commercial hot-spot at least the capital has moved from lagos for more than 10 years. the Yoruba's believe in sending their children to school for "IWE MEWA" which was Awolowo's belief. whether they do any thing with this education is not any of my business. you have quoted jamb statistics but i failed to get whether they also included college of education statistics. It is wise to note that the statistics indicate state of examination not state of origin of the candidates, also if you quote Primary and secondary school statistics i'm sure the far north will dominate. Every tribe (including the yoruba) likes to pride itself in being the best in something. AAhhg this argument is making me too tribalistic angry angry angry
I am very sure you are not yourself educated.

1. I have proved that in the last several years, Igbos, followed by the south south, are the most (not necessarily the best) educated Nigerians. So says JAMB, and that includes UME for universities and PCE for polytechnics and colleges of Education. Check the JAMB statistics again.

2. If  you passed through JAMB, you would have known that it deals with state of origin , just like other things in Nigeria. That is how they arrive at quota sytem, catchment area, educationally disadvantaged states, and all such trite stuff.

3. There is no unified record of who is graduating from the university and who is not. In the absence of such handy national graduation record, JAMB statistics hold. Nevertheless, by virue of percentage, it should go that if more Igbos are admitted into the universities than Yorubas, it follows that more Igbos should also graduate. Unless you are implying that Igbos are less intelligent than the Yoruba, which of course is not the case. Intelligence is individual and has nothing to do with tribe.

4. Do you have a record of the number of skilled workers in all Nigeria's 25 banks? If not, then shut up. However, to educate your small mind, Igbos are known to be the second most populous Nigerians after the indigenes of a place. And Igbos are known to compete well in job search, even outside Igboland. Now walk into the Bank in Lagos/Ibadan and tell me the number of Igbos you will find there. Do the same in Aba/Onitsha/PH etc and tell me the number of Yoruba you will find there. Do the maths. I can estimate, based on the fact that other Nigerians do not reside in Igboland in dramatic numbers, that more than 80% of bank staff in all Igbo states, and Rivers state are Igbo. Can you say the same for Yoruba bank staff in Yoruba states, especially Lagos?

5. Lagos is the only commercial hotspot and not the entire southwest (SW). Note the difference. With the slow rate of growth of Nigeria, it will take far more time to de-emphasise Lagos in terms of economic strenght. Remove Lagos, and the SW is as dead as dead wood, economically speaking. Ibadan is far less economically viable when compared to Onitsha, Aba or Nnewi, not to talk of PH. You really need to travel out a bit from your cocoon in Yorubaland. As for Ekiti, Ondo, Abeokuta etc, those are boring places. Nothing happens there.

3. The north cannot dominate even in primary, not to talk of secondary education. Everyone knows that.

When you finish these assignments I have given you, then you can come and talk again. Ewu most educated Nigerian.

Where is your own proof? this topic is too controversial because people will confuse being educated with being smart. this is a matter of quantity and by so saying the poster us likely to be correct. I'm yoruba so Bite me!! As for the awolowo issue i refuse to be drawn into any foolish argument about political icons but just to inform Chika98 look to the country's banking and business sector and check out which tribe dominates.
Check out JAMB statistics:

http://www.jambng.com/adm_pce.php (POLYTECHNIC AND COLLEGES OF EDUCATION)

What you see for the last 7-8 years (or so) will blow your mind. Why do we have to walk these paths (debating to and fro) again, after all the data show what is on the ground currently?

Yoruba appear (no 100 % surety) to dominate in banking sector, but things have also changed after the CBN consolidation exercise. Please check the list of the CEOs of the 25 banks. Nonetheless, Yoruba so-called domination of Banks means nothing because banking is not the only thing in Nigeria
Who dominates in business? The Yoruba/Igbo/Hausa/Ijaw, etc?
Who dominates in IT?
Who dominates in science?
Who dominates in Engineering?
Who dominates in literature?
Who dominates in public relations?
Who and who are the graduates in the entertainment industry?
Who are who amongst the Nigerians in diaspora?

Moreover, there is something you may not appreciate, and that is the fact that due to unemployment, many Nigerian graduates go into business. Does this mean they are not educated? I myself hold a post graduate degree, yet I am a business man (I was never unemployed, just decided to go into business.

I assume that the poster is new here. Otherwise he/she should have known that this matter has been discussed intensely before. Now he/she sneaks through the back-door to declare parochially that Yorubas are the most educated. Yorubas used to be the most educated (not necessarily the better educated). The glory is attenuated. That tide has changed. The Igbo has taken over since the last several years, as the most educated (and again not necessarily the better educated). I emphasise ''better'' because Nigerian education has long become about quantity not quality

I refer you to the link here on NVS, where you can get some useful statistics via other links. This topic is so far the most discussed, as you will find out from the number of exchanges that took place then.

Will the new Speaker last?

Before this afternoon, one thing was almost certain: that the new Speaker will emerge from Mrs Patricia Etteh’s state- Osun. But with the division in the lower chamber, will he last? However, issues have taken a new dimension with the emergence of Bankole as the new speaker

Yesterday’s sacking of the principal officers has further deepened the crisis in the House.

Very soon, the chairmanship of the House Committees will also be dissolved.

It is believed that from now till 2011, the House will never be the same again.

Obviously, contracts will still be awarded. The Speaker and members of his caucus mostly from the Integrity Groups will be inc charge of the process. And Pro-Etteh supporters – who now are at the receiving end will raise hell.

The meaning of this is that Nigerians will still witness drama in the 360-member House.

When the first Speaker in this dispensation Salisu Buhari was accused of certificate forgery, his supporters rose in his defence.

But the opponents insisted he must go. He was in office for just two months before he was chased out.

Then Ghali Umar Na’Abba came. Interestingly, some of the actors in the N628million scam played prominent role then.

When there was crisis in the House and Na’Abba was threatened with impeachment, Farouk Lawan insisted that Na’Abba must stay.

Also, Eziuchi Ubani was Na’Abba’s Special Adviser on Media.

Today, they work at cross purposes- Lawan is anti-Etteh and Ubani pro-Etteh.

Eventually, Na’Abba survived.

When Alhaji Aminu Masari came in 2003, he used his political experience and closeness to former President Olusegun Obasanjo to have a stable House despite the attack from his arch rival Dr Usman Bugaje.

Now, with the circumstances surrounding the exit of Mrs Etteh, it is doubtful if Nigerians will once again see the unity which prevailed during Masari’s tenure.

It is going to be the case of the hen and the rope. Representatives will now have to watch their backs. And democracy will be the loser.

How una dey take the resignation of Mrs. ''Etteh'' from Osun state?. I have this knack that what happenned with my Igbo brother senators (seemingly high turnover rate of senate presidents) will recur with the Yoruba in the house of reps. To think that Etteh was hardly 150 days in office. Time boku till 2015, for more turn overs.

Indigenes plan 'hall of shame' for enemies of Anambra
From Gordi Udeaja, Miami Florida, U.S.A.
FOR those who have become obstacles to development in Anambra State, difficult days are ahead, as a "hall of shame" is being planned for them.

The Anambra State Association in the United States of America (ASA-USA) hinted of the development at the end of its sixth yearly convention held in Miami Florida.

ASA-USA at the convention, which theme was "Delivering the dividends of democracy", had resolved among others, to set up what it tagged a "Hall of shame" where the names of those considered evil-doers and saboteurs of the state would be listed for the judgment of posterity.

The measure, according to the post-election statement issued jointly by Dr. Nwachukwu Anikwenze, Mr. Primus Odili and Alex Okeke, ASA-USA President, Secretary and Publicity Secretary respectively was being taken in view of the rising level of atrocities being committed by some well-placed leaders of the state.

"Anambra people will be encouraged to ostracise anybody whose name is placed in the hall of shame. The hall of shame will feature names of people that cut across the nation and indeed the globe, as it concerns Anambra State in particular and Nigeria in general," it said.

On the modus operandi, ASA-USA indicated that while an appropriate committee would be established to address the modalities for inducting deserving individuals into the hall, the medium will initially be Web/Internet-based while the names of the inductees will be listed and published bi-annually in the media.

ASA-USA pledged to further assist the state government to realize its improved healthcare delivery, in support of which it has proposed to build an ultra modern hospital in the state.

The group expressed concern over the state of education in the state, stressing the urgent need for Teachers to be re-trained and schools properly equipped.

It also condemned what it called the ills of the April 2007 election in the state and commended its four-man election monitoring team which it sponsored to Anambra State from the USA.

The group condemned the exercise that brought the current state House of Assembly members into office and urged the state election tribunal to quickly oust them from office "to help maintain stability in the state. The current members of the House of Assembly in the state do not have the mandate of Anambra people in any way, form or shape and as such should vacate office with immediate effect."

It expressed concern and interest about what it called the emerging scenario at the state election tribunal describing it "as greatly perplexing of the greatest kind, that the election tribunal in Anambra State has seemingly become the slowest, the most lethargic and lackadaisical so far in its treatment and adjudication of the election petitions before it as compared to the election tribunals in almost any other state among the 36 states in Nigeria."

The convention alleged that while several states, such as Abia, Imo, Rivers, Kogi and Edo have already rendered decisions on several petition cases even at gubernatorial levels, the tribunal in Anambra State was conspicuously slow in coming to decisions on the wide-spread petitions pending before it, spreading all across the state."

The association also urged the government to embark on public enlightenment on erosion, noting that construction practices needed to be changed to incorporate effective soil erosion and sedimentary plans. Besides, it called on the state to establish an agency to issue land disturbance permits to projects and contractors with approved erosion and sedimentary plans.

Dike pledges to improve War Museum

By Vincent Ujumadu

Umuahia—CHIEF of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Paul Dike, said yesterday in Umuahia that the War Museum in the Abia State capital would be improved upon to make it an ideal tourist centre.

The Air Force chief who was on assessment tour of the museum complex with top officials of the Nigeria Air Force, expressed delight at what they saw on ground, adding that it reminded one on the events of the last civil war.

“This is a place of history that must be preserved, at least for posterity sake. The place is not as bad as we were made to believe, but I still think that there is a lot more to be done here to make it much better,” he told reporters.

Some of the equipment inspected by Marshal Dike include different types of war planes, military equipment of various types, including those manufactured by the defunct Biafran soldiers, assault boats and other war relics.

Earlier during a courtesy call on the state deputy governor, Comrade Chris Akomas, at the Government House, Marshal Dike had explained that the visit would help to educate the young crop of officers.
The deputy governor said there is need for every Nigerian to visit the War Museum to see things for themselves so that they would not be tempted to repeat the mistakes of the past that led to the unfortunate civil war.

According to him, what is displayed at the War Museum is an indication that the country could achieve greatness with what is available to her, adding that the state government was prepared to join hands with the military in developing things that Nigerians would be proud of.

PoliticsSpeaker Etteh's 70-year Old Gentleman ''husband'' Revealed At Last by FSU(op): 11:54am On Oct 27, 2007
Encounter with Patricia Etteh’s ‘husband’ 27/10/2007

Okwy Iroegbu
Guess who was in the house? That seemed to be the thought of the participants at the 20th AGM / Conference of the Nigeria Institution of Structural Engineers (Nistrute) at Lagos Airport Hotel Ikeja when the august visitor was introduced. On his introduction by the master of ceremony (MC), people threw glances at one another with the "that is him" look. It turned out to be him, "the elusive personality, Reverend (Engineer) Etteh I. I. Etteh. On his part, he acknowledged the cheers and exchanged banters with some senior engineers while waving to those he couldn’t shake personally, with the younger engineers looking in admiration.

Rev. Eng. Etteh is an enigma of sorts in the engineering profession, almost everybody wanted to have a chance to either chat him up or have a photo session with him.

Dressed in a smart black suit with a matching tie and shoe, he walked smartly and briskly, not at any point betraying his age which the MC gave as 70 . At the mention of his age this also led to hushed discussion with some swearing under their breath that the man must be much less as there was no trace of aging except for few grey strands on his hair. The MC did a good job in his introduction, saying that he is not only an engineer of high repute and several years standing, but one that is selfless and who has mentored hundreds of engineers in the country and sent countless people abroad for higher education, without personally knowing who their parents were. This is also confirmed by a visit to the office of Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) at Victoria Island where his achievement in the field of engineering and philanthropic gestures dominate the notice board of the institute. The alleged husband of the embattled House of Representatives Speaker, Mrs Patricia Etteh is a gentle man personified and soft spoken, wearing a habitual smile. In his paper on collapsed building and how to check same, he rapped the government on corruption in the construction sector, delivering his paper with vigor, excitement and the confidence of somebody familiar with his terrain. He admonished engineers on integrity and ethics in the profession and gave knocks on the government for not patronizing indigenous engineers on jobs they are qualified to handle in the country.

He took time to give account of himself and his philanthropy, saying that it is on record that many engineers have passed through his tutelage and sponsorship. "This year alone I have sent three different people abroad without asking for their state of origin."

Rev. Etteh I. I. Etteh in his conclusion encouraged Nigerians to shun ethnicity and tribalism as according to him that is the only way the nation can move forward

this is the kind of irritating topics people post about Nigeria and Africa from most parts of the world and they claim they've done nothing wrong.

"Lol:food-hungry Lagosians Hack On Dead, Smelly Whale - Food Is Ready"

If I post "Lol: desperate Californians flee homes, several lives and properties lost to bush fires", how many of you would find it funny?

Bloody IDIOT!
Now people, look in Denex's photo (with a ''third eye'', such as only discerning minds have) and you'll see Denex amongsts those cutting a pound of flesh off of the smelly whale for the purpose of resale to the unwary. FYI, the man who sired Denex was amongsts the bloody idiots that ravaged Nigeria to such an extent that people will have to scavenge for flesh from a dead whale apparently killed by some water pollution. Denex, I ask you to return the stolen weath befor you can qualify to be sanctimonious.
