All men are born and created with the foreskin. Man has lived for thousands of years with the foreskin intact. Rome conquered the world and its men were not circumcised.

Europe and Latin America do not routinely circumcise their men and they have lower rates of HIV and STDs than Africa as a whole. So exactly what facts, what hygeine, and what science are you basing this on?

I am also happy that this is being discussed because many people in Nigeria think it is
absurd not to circumcise a male child just because it is not common around here.

i left nigeria to come to the US at the age of 10 , also i have seen a patient with phimosis, needless to say the dude was in soo much pain and i have never ever heard of women having phimosis before. maybe its possible but i have never read it anywhere or heard of it. last but not least yes people do have water and soap, but yet they still don't keep their privates clean. these goes for some women as well

Phimosis is rare, for men and women. But that's not a reason to circumcise anybody.

Rates of scrotal cancer and HIV infection are significantly higher in uncricumcised men. This is a known medical fact.

I have seen a case of scrotal cancer in a guy with HIV infection in 2002 (what a combo). A very grotesque sight with an "R' rating. If I paste the picture here, 90% of Nairalanders will throw up persistently for two weeks straight.

There is a lot of misinformation out there about circumcision and many Nigerian men who are pro-circumcision are only so, because if they go against it, they have to admit that something WRONG was done to them. It's a severe blow to the male ego.

It is a shame that circumcision is perpetuated on helpless baby males. Shameful and hypocritical to blast female circumcision and support male circumcision as well. Comparing Nigeria to Europe is not appropriate to judge the effects or otherwise of circumcision, demographics, social systems and education levels are very different.

A comparison rates for West Africa in general (where circumcision is very widespread) to that for East/Southern Africa where the practice is less prevalent and you'll come to see the difference.

It may reduce HIV risks, but the key here is not to present it as a complete barrier to infection. Abstinence and mutual fidelity remain the best alternatives.

Looking at these two groups it's clear that there are countries with high prevalances and low prevalences in both groups, but to be fair, there are FAR more countries that practice male circumcision widely than not, so the pool of countries is much smaller. How come Rwanda and Burundi are able to maintain their realitvely lower rates than the other ridiculously high populations? And how come Ivory Coast and Kenya have such high infection rates despite the prevalance of male circumcision?

Circumcision isn't the key. Africans have been circumcising men more than any other continent forever and yet, it is still the continent most hard hit by HIV. Behavioral change and condoms are the only ways to combat the virus.

I think this is garbage propaganda from American doctors and researchers.

Nigeria has been practicing male circumcision forever, and STILL has a very high HIV-prevlance rate of 3.9 percent.

Whereas Europe and Latin America where they don't practice circumcision, all have HIV-prevalence rates of less than 1 percent.
