Mr, I'm not a naive Nigerian. I know what obtains. I've been traveling outside Nigeria for vacations as a secondary school student before I thought of going for higher studies so spare me that patronizing tone.

My issue with you and your likes is your huge empathy deficit. I always wished to join my voice to the threads that are opened to warn about unbridled desire to just leave Nigeria but the penchant to tag us as haters prevented me. Imagine how you came swinging into my comment? I don't like Internet arguments and I deliberately avoid them

Nigerians believe they can do anything and it's just not true. This OP and others like him made errors which they shouldn't make. The urge to game the system is in most Nigerians because we hardly follow the rules. I'm a stickler for rules but will I throw my child away because he broke the rules?

He has made his mistakes, he is stewing in it now, why do you think you need to turn the knife? What benefit is it to you? Or to him? Depression is real. I'm only being my brother's keeper pls.

UK as a japa route don cast. That's the basic truth. If you don't have the funds, forget about it. Yesterday I learned that a guy staying in an estate close to ours sold his 3 bedroom fine house for 40m (ordinarily, 60m is too cheap for such) to go to the UK because his wife got care job. They're back to Lagos now hiding from everybody. I can't imagine being in the same shoes with that family but I'm sure they were warned but refused to hear.

The thread I put out there saved a lot who would have made a terrible mistake coming to UK. Preventing them from selling off their property at give away.
I know of someone who is well paid, wife well paid. Left his job, sold his house half the price, sold his car, sold his wife car then came to UK last year. He is with me here . He hasn't seen a stable job. Job he saw only worked one month and off. Wife also searching for job.

So people should put a break... I mean Japa people. If you are going there to school and return then go

Yeah it's you I was referring to.

I almost cried reading all the very harsh comments they threw your way on that thread. How can these folks be so heartless? Mistakes have been made and you've obviously learned your lesson which is why you came to warn people yet these sanctimonious folks still wanted to pile on your misery. I'm very happy to hear that you've emerged strong out of it. I hope you keep on soaring.

I wanted to come to UK too but my hubby blatantly refused sponsoring me there because in his words "UK education is simply a business with no human touch and it'll soon cast". I went elsewhere with my kids and my husband sponsoring us from Nigeria so I don't have to face the issues you guys are facing.

I wish the OP a resolution and I hope all intending japa folks will not always think everyone advising caution is a hater. I'm happy my husband refused to be swayed by the fanciful stories we were reading and watching online. Maybe I'd have been wallowing in depression too.

Actually most people don't really tell what they passed through here they only say things when they going has smoothen out and this has lead a lot to make terrible mistakes.
I wont advice anyone to come to UK now through education... I mean those coming through Japa.

People should put a break to it or look elsewhere.

Am happy you are doing well with the choices you have made

What the oldies are doing to the OP is quite unfair. The guy only opened a thread to warn others not to fall into the trap. He isn't begging for money or whatever. It takes a lot for him to come out with his story and I think it's a service most should be grateful for.

The few times I come to this forum, I see a lot of people who try to warn others about the japa craze. They try to sound the alarm that not all is as it seems but they're tagged bad belle and enemies of progress who don't want others to get there or that they've failed at getting visas hence the hate. I've wanted to lend my voice to it but I don't have time or energy for Internet toxicity which is so rife on this forum.

You guys should pls give the guy a break. He didn't kill person. The UK that gives everyone Visa knows they need the money. They also know people will not have the money immediately otherwise, why not insist on full payment before they come? Of course they will lose customers that's why. You gave someone a repayment plan and you now change it in the middle of the game, haba!!

You 'established' japarians should chill pls. That's how when one poster called Funclub (or what's his name) opened a thread, using his real experience to ask guys to think twice about embarking on japa, they almost lynched him here.

OP, just try and hang in there. I pray for you to get a way out. I hope you break free soon.

You called my mention... Hello and good morning.

Justwise is that kind of person that can't render finanacial assistance to anyone around. There was no unprintable name he didn't called me. Am sure he don't pick any of his relative calls from where he is.

Finally I have gotten a job and things are smoothening and I have gotten used to the system.I wil give another thread after my schooling

To all hustlers who want to change the narrative... We will all be alright, have the thick skin and keep pushing.

Actually, it is somewhat difficult now. You see that Birmingham in England which is the Indian and Arab mini country, I won't advice my enemy to go there. Though some persons might be lucky but getting a student job there now eh?....

Please no one should have working for 20 hours to pay school fees in mind. Don't o! You might have high blood pressure due to worries.
Pay all of your fees before coming then the 20 hours can suffice for rent and groceries.

As per your attached image, school and hospital cleaners requires DBS. They even do interview sef😂😂😂 there is also training required if you are going to be measuring and mixing chemical cleaning agents. You have to be certified.

Overrated UK! Like someone said, if he sees who would return all his money spent on this UK Journey, he will go back home that same day.

This is what has been holding me, nothing more. Each time I remember the funds I will feel like crying.
Even where I am Indians are everywhere even Sri Lanka and lots of Asians. You hardly see Nigerians though.
But not all cleaning require DBS. Except school, hospital and care home... I believe if the cleaning are done in certain places other than this place you will not necessarily need standard or enhanced DBS.

When you are in need you go understand that the only people you have are your family... Blood relative and no one else
Even 10 pounds no one will dash you here.

I landed a 20 hours forklift job after I did a certification that cost me a much... That certification in that field prevented others who don't have same certificate from applying.
So you can see that the job market is responding to demand and supply.

People came to attack me saying lie, lazy this that... Someone that gathered 15m in Nigeria without fraud is lazy.

Man, try and follow men wey know road. Many persons have given you hidden advice. Read between the lines and fight your way through. Sharon1 even told you something about your CV, you are refuting every efforts people are trying to offer you. I have been reading through the thread and a couple of persons have dropped some golden tips but you are not just seeing them to take advantage of them.

Life is all about being smart and thinking out of the box. If you are from the trenches like us, as a normal Naija guy, you are supposed to be very very smart. We are known to be smart people. We no be ozuo people. Did you even read what sharon1 told you? What of the other guys that are giving you subtle tips? You ain't just getting it bro. You're too fixated on the there are no jobs mindset.

It might be that it's your mindset that's working against you. Try and be liberal and have an open mind. Be positive. Our thoughts always have a way to make us or mar us. Pls, go through the posts in this thread and give a try to those subtle tips some persons are giving you to land a job.

Which Cv? I have almost 8 cvs collected from various people.. You won't understand unless you are in this shit..
I was able to land a job after I did a forklifting certification which cost me over... Let me not mention.

So please stop attacking me. I did everything humanly possible and even the impossible I did.

Those places he mentioned is unrealistic... Can you be schooling in Lagos and be going for jobs in Sokoto. Whereby by flight you will spend 100 pounds goinand coming and by train 45 pounds and you spend 5 hours going and coming or by bus you spend whole day. How will you meet up with school?
If you missed school or taking attendance then the immigration will be contacted

Yes I land a job after doing some certification training that cost me almost 1 million plus naira.

I figured out that those area there are no much job applicant so I went for it.
The reality is is that most care job, cleaning jobs people use to see are all being chased by vast numbers of people that came in last year and this year.. So certification courses like folklift etc will help you secure job because this certificate don't come cheap

You're over-generalizing. Someone just corrected you yet you don't want to keep to correction. Again, don't forget that some people are unemployable. You and your friends might be an example

He is saying the truth.. Jobs are scarce now in UK.
Ask people on ground. Am in the UK also. Took me 3 months to land one and it's just 20 hours and it just takes care of house rent...meaning school fees, electricity bills, and other bills are on other sources

I think I made a post that hit the front page about this last time. Only that people hate the truth or reality that didn't meet their expectations and wants fancy fancy stories.

I would have posted a lot of complaints grin but I don't know if the people are on nairaland.
But if coming, don't keep expectation high..hold money for house rent... Like 3 to 4 months, foods, like 3 to 4 months, hold extra funds and above all have people to fall on back home for assistance. Cos since September I came here I know lots and lots that haven't seen one job till today I am chatting you while very few are extremely lucky to land a job the vast majority are still without

Now that you have asked, let me give you some guide.
You will need to honestly respond to the following questions

Question 1: Which industry do you hope to practice as a data analyst or scientist? You will need to select either one or two industries.
examples are Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, Health Care, Social Media, and Customer Relations etc.

Question 2 : Do you know the top 15 KPIs that govern that industry? and how to determine them using the tools of your choice.

Question 3: Looking at the Tools: Do you know the types of references used in Excel and their business use cases? How many aggregate functions can you use in Excel and their business use cases? How many data cleaning functions do you know about in Excel and their business use cases?. You need to know how to solve business problems because you will work in a business environment.

The same questions will apply to most of the tools we use in data analytics.

Unfortunately, there are no courses, to the best of my knowledge, that can extract that information and give it to you.

My Personal Recommendations:

1) Choose an industry and get a dataset for that industry. Find out the top 10 or 15 KPIs used in that industry and how they are calculated mathematically. Determine those KPIs using your dataset. You can now proceed to build a dashboard using that dataset and the KPIs.
Repeat the process with a different dataset until you are confident and comfortable.

Example: The most important KPI for sales is total revenue; others are sales by region or state; sales by sales manager or representative.

I hope it helps you.
!!! Shalom!!!

Hello guys.
I stumbled on this thread yesterday.
I am a data analyst. Did the Google analytic course on coursera. I also joined entry level 1 and 2 for additional hands on practical. I'm very good with SQL, excel and not too good with R. I use Tableau for visualisation.

Here's the thing
I haven't been able to land a job yet. I've been applying on upwork. It seems no one wants a data analyst with a less than 2 to 5 years experience 😕.

What do I do? Where else can I apply and get a job?
I want to skill up by adding python and also becoming a data scientist ( please suggest a good tutor either paid or free).

Sometimes I feel so down as if my knowledge could be a waste.
Where did you register for this please

The problem is not the certificate. They are very good. The honest question you should ask yourself is: if I am given a dataset now, can I derive meaningful insight from the data? How many tools can I conveniently use to find solutions to my data problems?.

Your answers to these questions will determine whether you will find work or not.
Thanks for your honest answer.

Please which course will you recommend that will enhance my skills.
I'm terms of tableau, mysql, and any other course to analyse data

Why don't you invest the money you have in business here? Going with a tourist visa with a plan to stay and work is risky. Those who want to make money out of you will not tell you the truth.

The other option is to get a legitimate work visa before you leave and have enough to sustain you for some months before you're stable on a job.

We that have visa to work never see.

The look for local companies in Nigeria and apply first, even if the pay is peanuts.. You are after real life experience. Do it 6months with them and start applying abroad via sponsorship

So one must go through a website or get certified for ordinary cleaner job?

I thought there were alot of jobs abroad. That only the lazy ones dont make it in overseas.

Anyone that can come here on his or her own bro is not lazy. I mean anyone that worked and coughed out this huge sum of money is not lazy.
No lazy man can worked 10m in Nigeria... Making one million in Nigeria one should be given a medal.

Again, you need certificate or experience to scale through. They value UK experience like Gold.. If u scale through this then u will be getting jobs hence forthcoming.

But that first push.

If you have 20M, you can actually study in Latvia for example, bring in your family, rent a huge flat, have a Schengen residence permit that gives you entry to about 30 European Schengen countries, and have peace of mind. And oh, you can work there, start a company, and play until permanent residency.

Nigerians, why only the UK? There are other countries out there that will not stress your life. You just have to start somewhere. Lots of Nigerians I have met in these places, will only visit the UK, and go back to maybe Poland.

If you are flexible with learning a new language, then life will be easy for you. I have visited the UK a lot, and surprisingly, I see more wretched Africans there than other small EU countries that most Nigerians would skip.

Guys in Poland, Slovakia, Finland, and Latvia for example are living in huge houses, paying less and having less stress. The world is bigger than the UK.

Are you with your calculator?

Living expenses roughly 10k pounds
For a dependant roughly 6k pounds
Let's say your school fees is 15k pounds.
If exchange rate is 1400...then only this is going to 40 million naira.

Visa and health insurance 1450 dollars. I don't know now. Multiply by two if u have a dependant.

Other small small expensises... Tb test, passport fee unless u have already, booking of biometric... Priority? 250 pounds, plus other fees like that

Most of them are not different from our greedy politician, they live flamboyantly on proceeds of sharp practices, corruption, fraud, etc and that's why they can't leave the country. Some of them who claimed they have businesses or investment here are mostly liars , their business practices are embodiment of corruption. As at today real business owners are lamenting. People are facing tough time now. We just pray it gets better. Just believe with time things will be better for you there. Don't ever look back to your vomit.
