Those you have discouraged with your earlier post now, they have run with the inexperienced opinion you provided.

People should learn to understand a subject properly before lording opinions on others.

If you look back today, you'll probably see a lot of things you were getting wrong as a newcomer to the UK at the time. Usually, everywhere man migrates to, the earliest days are often the toughest. It would take resilience and focus to break the glass.

Now those wey you don discourage now don go chop their transport money. And exchange rate don come worse join. You see life?

Congrats on your path of success.
Remove that word discourage. I hate it most expecially when people complain or say reality.
I never discourage anyone please. I only wrote what i experienced.

I know few of my colleagues that actually went home as they couldn't meet their fees payments. It is important that one have his full fees before coming..

TravelMy Experience In UK Since I Japa:warning Rejoinder by fullclub(op):
This is a rejoinder because i felt that if i dont give an account on how it ended it won't be nice.
Here is the other or first thread about my complaint and how i found it difficult to adjust and meet up my financial obligations in uk.
https://www.nairaland.com/7889678/experience-uk-since-japa-warning

I want to thank all those who advised me to stay back and fight it through. After reading those positive comments and some friends here i decided to stay back.
Today i want you all to join me celebrate as i have graduated from the University here and my graduation is coming up November 29th 2024.
It was not an easy journey honestly at first i thought it will be impossible to complete my studies giving the fact that school started mounting pressure on me shortly after i decided to stay back.

I got first job December/January but honestly it couldn't sustain house rent. So i had to sell some properties in Naija to remain afloat, Then stopped the job i was on when i got another one and the pay was sustainable but lost that one after few months. Then my dependant who came leta got a job and together our finances could now sustain and also clear fees balance.
The property I sold enabled me to clear some part of school fees because that is the main burden to student aside rent

Lessons learnt so far:

1) To all folks planing on japa via school should make adequate preparation, do your planning/home work well because the first 6 months in UK is not for the faint hearted. On the aspect of school feee ensure you have plans on how to get it cleared as fast as possible.

2) If you don't know how to drive please and please learn it. You don't need to have a car before u learn. Learn now... Like now its a skill that is valuable in all field.

3) Again if you plan to japa now or in future, please know thar driving or knowing how to drive is a skill its self.

4) It is quite expensive to learn how to drive when u leave Nigeria. You can spend over 5m to learn how to drive in UK.

5) Buying a car is far cheaper as a month rent is enough to get you a modern car.

6) Having a car and a driver licence will open doors for you that are impossible to open

7) No one (Nigerians) borrow or lend any money in the UK.. I mean reasonable money like 100, 200 etc. Although u could get credit card. I mean abeg borrow me this money i go pay back so soo time.

cool life could be lonely amongst the Nigerian communities as everyone is chasing money. But is life fun for British? Yes the British like a fun filled lifestyle. We dont club 1/10th in Nigeria like they do here but can you foot the bill like a newcomer in town?

9) it takes an average of 3 months to 4 months to get a job. Soo I will say there are jobs especially for those who have previous experience in a field. The more experience u have the better and faster u are to get jobs.

10) don't learn automatic driving leaving manual. Please learn manual car driving then u could learn automatic. 80% of cars here are manual. U can see 2020 manual car model everywhere

11) you could use public transport to get to a place in 2:30hrs whereas same place will take u 13 minutes or less with your private car.

12) food is crazy cheap but house rent is not cheap. So staying in remote places could safe u more assuming u have a car to get to place of work.

13) if you are coming its good to have 1000 pounds set aside to learn skills thay could land u job easily. This skills and certification are just few weeks to achieve.

14) learn to network with those on ground. They already know or have some job connections hidden that could take u years to find out.

15) at least know the basics of computer operations like how to send mail, do job search via indeed. Use ms Word etc it helps.
16) in Nigeria when see someon or stranger u stone ur face.. Bone ur face trying to investigate but in the uk its otherwise. When u see someone u smile.. And be polite.

17) no power failure not even a seconds.

18) all road are connected

19) nothing like tribalism or regionality in UK. Like every uk sees him or her self equal and uphold their nationality unlike tribes we do in Nigeria.

I don't give a hoot about your background either and it seemed you understood my initial take upside down.

1. Labour demands are unrealistic but very reasonable due to the economic problems the political class has brought upon us
2. Labour knows no one can give them 400k or even the 250k they are advocating but as a union it's their job to bargain the most for their members welfare given the inflation rate and the ostentatious lifestyle of the political class
3. I think a realistic 90-120k might be ok and Labour will gladly accept it with conditions of a review of the current electricity hike
4. Soludo is a hypocrite of the first order cos he blindly looked away from the corruption in the government and was telling us how he doesn't collect salary but we know monthly security votes monies he pockets is more than 10 years of his annual salary. He even objects local government autonomy which says a lot about him. He shares the same theories with you that brought us to this level while corruption is overlooked. He's a born hypocrite and every civil organizations is blasting him this morning if you check insider papers today. Like Sanusi his successor they only know elitist theories that creates hardship
5. The demands on foreign currencies is caused by the political class cos the humongous money they earned legally and illegally are used more abroad for children fees, buying foreign products etc.
6. If you pay labour sat 100k as minimum wage it will increase purchasing power of a percentage of Nigerians cos they buy in the local market.
7. The governors are a bigger problem that the federal cos there are no checa to what they do since they handpick their assembly members and coronate local government chairmen. They loot recklessly and put the state's in heavy internal and external debts
8. The government is looking for FDI but harsh economic policies and environment has made 14 large scale companies to relocate in the last one year the latest being Total Energy. What policies will encourage production with these high cost of inputs?

Lastly am 41 and have been giving my inputs to alternative Governance since 19. I studied the SAP document of IBB and came out with a domestic template which was acknowledged. I studied NEEDS document too which was brilliant but poorly implemented. Like I said,, you are entitled to your opinions but I know what will work cos am on ground.
What was my initial response that you throw insult at me? I said 400k is unrealistic, 60/70 is okay given the level of inflation then the government should look for ways to curb the current inflation by

ensuring they partner with Dabgote to produce
more oil to meet local needs or go for full subsidy.

Ensure that famers are supported particularly in the north, ensure that security of famers are guaranteed.

Ansure that roads are done to easy transportation of goods to final consumer.

This ar what will ensure that food prices crash not increasing of wages to unrealistic level as it will call for full inflation.

Have a lovely day

Mister, you are studying MSc Advanced Micro and Macroeconomics in the UK and you think it's the El Dorado to Nigeria s economic malaise? Its just basic theories and to think studying in UK gives you any edge on economic engineering in Sub Saharan Africa then it's a blind joke. Its still the same IMF methods that are not applicable to our conflicted and corrupted system that you will be imbibed with.

I studied Masters in International Affairs and Diplomacy (MIAD) in ABU Zaria and also did my first degree in Political economy. All in Nigerian federal universities. I have also done researches in various related fields and presented papers on subjects ranging from Farmers herders conflicts, Federalism, Grassroot development as it relates to our voting patterns, comparative analysis and international trade in Nigeria, Electoral and judicial reforms, the Nigerian market trends amongst others.

So there's no faculty of thought in Nigeria with regards to discussing Nigeria's socioeconomic challenges that I cannot make credible inputs. So you are very wrong on that count but who could blame you since it's a faceless forum? Maybe you can go to my X handles and Instagram pages and see the engagements we make daily with Nigerians across all spheres. I worked with Centre For Democratic Development for two years immediately after graduation before moving on to three different CSOs and finally building our own CSO base on our tenets for nation building.

I joined politics in 2003 (NCP) as an undergraduate and contested and lost a councillorship elections which gave me a springboard to delve into grassroot administration as a part-time researcher and wrote articles that have been published and in the libraries of some councils we distributed to free of charge

So Mr, I took some time to show you a bit of myself so you don't think it's the usual nairaland nuisance you are talking to and also because you were cultured enough to give me a snippet of yourself. I respect people that develop themselves intellectually in any academic field and recognise the diversity of opinions. Like one of our tenets say, 'if you don't like the rules then get t the top and change it'. That's why we encourage young people to join politics but we try to inculcate democratic Norms to them that centres on accountability and transparent service.

If you check my nairaland profile it's registered since 2009 so you know it's not a child you are conversing with but I always engage with whoever demonstrates ideal arguments cos it's all.aprt of our political and social education as a nation.

In your submission on the solutions you forgot one big issue. CORRUPTION. Those lofty ideas you suggested have been implemented but due weak institutions it was all looted away.

In my opinion, you first build strong institutions through reforms and review of existing acts since the holistic constitutional amendment seemed impossible and some areas in the country felt threatened. People are naturally scared of the unknown and wants to maintain the order of things.

Once our legislators do their jobs without interference or corrupt inclined motives then we'll get reforms gradually.

My take
I don't care where you work or where u have worked. You idea that the government should increase minimum wage to labour request is laughable. If government should do it then private sector will have to abide by the rule.
Banks, bakery, big time super market will all have to pay minimum wage of 400,000 and guess what they will pass the price to final consumer which means prices will increase... Inflation

Private teachers wil have to pay 400,000k to teachers minimum and those selling in the market will raise same to meet the markup, government will only print more money to pay and it continues.. While productivity remains the same or drop down ... It bring inflation and purchasing Power of naira drops down...

Soludo former cbn governor share this same idea I am trying to pass to u.

I think the UK recently increased it minimum wage April this year from 10.40 pounds to 11.44 pounds but here see the percentage of increment u are calling for (from 30k to 400k) what does that tell you?
And you don't just increase minimum wage to whatever percentage u like, you have to take into consideration your GDP which is ratio of wage growth to productivity in percentages... This is how modern economy works.

Probably you may then have an idea of the roles the superstructure played and still playing....
that brought us to these Economic quagmires that currently plague us. That inevitably, selfish political decisions brought us to this 41% food inflation economy that is one of the highest globally.

You are such a daft to waste my time on but I'll allow you the above two seconds free class thriller.
Am actually studying MSC advanced micro and macro economics in the UK. alongside research.

Like I said u lack adequate knowledge to argue anything that has to do with economics.

For your information I am not an APC supporter or anything.

Buhari was a mistake who messed the economy, who printed a lot of naira and borrowed heavily.. This lead us where we are today.

Nothing good should be expected from tinubu likewise.

But in all this, it's common sense that increasing money supply will only lead to inflation and nothing more and I listed so many theory that proves me right.

If you like increase workers salaries to 1million without increasing productivity particularly in agricultural yield production you are wasting your time because large money supply will chase the few goods in supply.. Abi na money u go take cook soup?

If you want to get it sort out in the long run then ensure that
1) farmers are safe n goes to farm unhurt.
2) ensure that farmers are heavily supported via various schemes
3) ensure that roads are constructed to transport this goods to final consumer.
4) stop excessive borrowing to fund unproductive venture..
If all this are achieved then there will be a balance between supply and demand in the aggregate level

The bolded:
You claimed that that there's no money and that it will bring more inflation but failed to tell us why there's inflation in the first place. Let me tell you some basic things but you and the federal government are missing.
Fuel and exchange rate (dollar) are the strongest pillars of our economy. They influence other factors of production, demand, supply and profit margin. Everything every rise in price of commodities is tied to Dollar and fuel hence the high inflation. Take for instance the recent hike in electricity tariff was on the premise that the cost of production is higher than what it used to be.
Everything in the market has tripped it's price and still counting .
Now tell me why a supposed first class economist like Tinubu will expect that things will remain the same after touching the very life wires of our economy? Maybe you should help me remind him that exchange rate and fuel are hydra-headed components that once touched, there will be a multiple chain reactions.

Certainly, labor will not insist on 400k because it's not feasible, but will definitely not settle for anything below 100k and it's very justifiable.
Buhari printed so much money in his tenure and I don't know what reason he did that.
There was massive borrowing at the same time.
Infact Buhari killed Nigeria and those who voted massively for Buhari should be held responsible for that.

Like I said fuel import should be addressed. Dangote should be partnered with in that area to see that fuel issue is put to stop.

There are other things I mentioned but if they ignore all and increase minimum wage then we shall be here again in next 10 years maybe asking for 2 million minimum wage. Maybe by then a bag if rice will sell for 500,000 to 1m.

You can see the trend of money growth.. Check the years and correspond it with how prices rose in the market

Labour only know how to fight for money wage increase but will keep quite when farmers are killed in the farm, will keep quite when all federal roads are bad. Will keep quite when government makes wrong policies.

@ fullclub Real wage that seems to be your magic phrase. Now think, should the workers wait till FG solve the problem of insecurity before they feed? (same problem Jonathan and Buhari could not solve for more than 12 years), should Nigeria workers wait for steady electricity, good roads etc before they take care of their children since they dont need nominal wage but real wage. The problem with people like you is that you embrace books and throw away your brains forgeting that your brain should come first. If you continue like this, a school cert. will lead and control you even with your PhD
Holding FG accountable, ensuring that reforms are carried out in the INEC, ensure that they go on strike because of killings and insecurity in North etc. Ensuring they mobilised their workers to elect sensible leaders. Going on strike when it was evident that elections were rigged.

The problem we are facing today has nothing to do with Jonathan . It was created by Buhari
