AT least four civilians and four suicide bombers have been killed in two separate explosions near the Nigerian border in Cameroun’s Far North Region, security sources have said. Dozens more were wounded in Saturday’s bombing in the village of Nigue, a suburb of Fotokol town, in an attack carried out by suspected members of Nigeria’s armed group, Boko Haram. “The first (suicide attacker) detonated his bomb in the house of the traditional chief of Leymarie. Five people died including the bomber,” a senior Cameroonian military official who declined to be named told Reuters. Leymarie forms part of Nigue. “ This year, Boko Haram claimed responsibility for a number of attacks in Nigeria and its neighbouring countries, Cameroun, Chad and Niger, which have joined an offensive against the group. Boko Haram used Cameroun’s impoverished Far North to stockpile supplies and recruits until the government cracked down last year. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/2015/11/deadly-suicide-strike-rocks-northern-cameroun/

THE Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, Cross River chapter, said it has lost 36 of its members between Odukpani and Itu road in the last three months. Mr Victor Okon, Chairman of the association, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Calabar on yesterday. He attributed the deaths to accidents caused by damaged portions of the road. “The association took the decision to fill the potholes to save the lives of our members and also protect our vehicles.” “We have started palliative repair of the damaged portions of the Odukpani-Calabar federal road,” he said. The chairman said members of the association had suffered greatly along the road due to its deplorable condition. “It affects us badly. We suffer losses more than any other road users. For your information, we have lost 36 of our members between Odukpani and Itu in the last three months.” “So, the association took the decision to fill the potholes to save the lives of our members and also protect our vehicles,” he said. Okon urged the Federal and Cross River Governments to take urgent steps to repair the road to prevent further loss of lives. According to him, besides deaths, the bad condition of the road had also affected state’s economy negatively. He said members of the association paid their taxes regularly and called on the government to reciprocate by providing a good road network. He commended the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), for the recent launch of the Ember Months Mega Rally in the state. The chairman pledged the union’s support for FRSC to enable it to achieve an accident-free Yuletide this year. Okon also pledged the union’s support for the state government’s transport policies and programmes which he said were progressive. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/2015/11/transport-union-loses-36-members-three-months-fills-potholes-c-river/

A Nigerian doctor named Anthony Nwafor, has been accused of corruption and illegal immigration by the Department of Home Affairs in South Africa. Nwafor, a family physician was arrested two weeks ago with 14 of his family’s passports. The department of Home affairs in its report said Nwafor was arrested for unlawfully being in possession of those passports which were South African and Nigerian and had tried to bribe an officer investigating him with 50,000 rand. Nwafor's wife, Amara, who is a practicing pharmacist, was initially arrested alongside her husband, but was later released as charges against her were dropped while her Nigerian passport is yet to be released. Amara Nwafor has condemned the allegations against her husband, “I see what is going on here as xenophobic prosecution and I also see it as white collar xenophobia,” she said. Nwafor subsequently appeared at a bail hearing in Limpopo province over charges level against him. In cross-examining, the prosecuting counsel questioned the different spelling of the doctor’s name on his documents seized and prayed the court not to grant him bail, stressing that the court was not sure who it was releasing. Nwafor’s legal representative believed that the errors in the spelling of his client’s name by the department should not cost him a denied bail, insisting that his identity cannot be questioned in a country where he studied and has practiced for 14 years. The presiding judge adjourned the case and asked for more time to study the arguments of both parties and the evidences presented to him.
