Pls I was wondering for this FIRS vacancy, does one need to upload a medical certificate stating that one is medically fit as stated in the requirements?
Also, can IT certifications be uploaded as Professional qualifications as it seems it is required for one to be a member of that professional body which is not always the case with certifications.
Thanks in advance! |

Intelligentdude: I will advice you following the path of an IT Business Analyst.
It is actually a lucrative path and is a combination of technical (though not too deep)and non technical(business)courses.
There are lots of opportunities in this path and after your training, apply to Software Companies (with focus in enterprise, desktop applications development).
There are lots of Software Companies especially in Lagos(Emerging Platforms,L5Lab,Seamfix Nig.Limited,Coure Technologies,Exolve Technologies, AppZone etc),just take your time and compile atleast 1000 software companies.
Apply to the companies after your Business Analyst training, when invited for an interview, communicate your passion to grow as a Business Analyst in the Company(Always look out for the Major decision maker in each interview panel, make sure you impress him/her and trust me,other members of the panel won't be able to stop you from getting the job).
Success in your endeavor. Cheers Thanks man. Pls do u know of any good computer school in Lagos where they offer this trainings? |

werthy: You are almost done,
Your mistake was basing your skills on management
Even guys in management position in telcos still have a lot of technical knowledge
I suggest you go for web programming or networking
Your main strenght for now is management
The two field above are easy path for you to follow and get your feet up
One thing is, both are easy
If you choose web programming, quickly start with an htm class and move on to advance ones. Like python
If networking... not too lucrative to me mow, start with a ccna class and and a microsoft cause
Hye pm me i will call you and give you sound knowledge in this field as it is in nigeria
Best of luck
Meanwhile, if you need any of this trainings Reach out to me..... you cant regret it Thanks for advice werthy. I just sent u a pm. Pls do u have am email or number u can reach you on for more info |

Good Day House,
Pls I need your help in deciding how to proceed with a career in IT. I have a B.Tech in Industrial Chemistry from 2006, from one of the universities in Nigeria and a MSc in IT & Management from a UK university from 2010.
I did the MSc IT and Management as a conversion course in moving into the IT field. Most of my courses were mostly geared to towards Management and the Managerial part of IT and not much into the technical areas like programming, networking etc. My problem is this, most times when I go for an interview in an IT role, I am usually asked, which part of IT do you specialize in? is it hardware or software? Database, programming, web design, networking etc?
I am at a loss on what to answer, and tell them that as I have basic knowledge in database, programming and web design which I did long ago from a fundamental computer course in Aptech back in 2007. They usually answer me with things like we want someone experienced in programming , web design , networking etc. I tell them that IT is very vast, and I have not really experienced all the fields but I am willing to learn but this is a no no for them and I end up not getting the job.
Abroad like in the UK, IT is vast and you have areas like IT Governance, IT business analyst, Project Management etc that are not really too technical but a combination of management and IT. But in Nigeria, once you mention IT, most people only think of the technical areas, like programming, web designing, database etc of which IT is much more than that.
I have been looking for an entry role like IT Support, Service desk roles as a way of building up experience to no avail. Currently, I have certifications in ITIL Foundation and Prince 2 Foundation but these certifications do not really seem to be of value to the employers I meet as they seem to see them as managerial roles and want certifications in the more technical roles like programming, web design, networking etc. Also, they usually say I have no experience.
One of my greatest problems is that I don’t really know which technical certification to go for and how best I can build experience when getting such roles or internships are difficult.
My questions are:
1) What are the marketable technical certifications in IT that I can go for that has high probability of giving me a job in the Nigerian market? I ask this because I am scared of spending so much money on a certification and at the end of the day, u end up still looking for a job (like with my ITIL Foundation & Prince 2)
2) How best do I proceed to build a career in IT? I am confused at this point as I have been looking for a job since 2011? Getting internships are hard as they seem to be mostly geared towards younger people in their twenties & I am in my thirties.
3) What entry roles can I do to get my foot into the IT career industry given my educational background and my certiifications so far? A lot of people say volunteering but I have met different companies to volunteer to no avail or no career prospects & at times some will use you as a form of cheap labour without adding any value or experience to your career prospects.
I would really appreciate any advice the IT gurus & others in the house can give me as I run out of ideas on how to proceed. With the current economy now, most companies keep asking for experience with out giving a chance to newbies that want to build experience, so how do you get experience when hardly anyone gives you the opportunity to build it? This has seriously got me frustrated and depressed as I do not know how best to proceed.
A Million Thanks in advance for all your help!!! |

Crime › Re: I Was Harrased By Police For Having A Foreign Number On Contact List by funkyprof: 5:05pm On Jul 21, 2016 |
sszest: I have always read news of police brutality online but never fully understood what the victims went through until I had a first hand experience on Wednesday, 13th July, 2016. On that very day, which has become a day I will never forget in my life, I was headed to jibowu to assist my sister get a bus back to the east after her visit to Lagos. Just before the park area, there was a police checkpoint and as I was walking towards the park with my sister, one of the police officers at the checkpoint signaled me to come. When I went to answer him, he demanded for my phone, I brought it out, he collected it and started scrolling through my contacts. The next thing I heard was "You are a criminal! Wetin foreign number dey do for your phone?……...". The contact in question is that of my school friend who just went to the UK for his masters program, but before I could say Jack, I have been pushed into their vehicle, a danfo bus with the registration number, XU754LND. Each time I demanded to know what exactly my crime was, the response I got was something like "Keep Quiet! Shut Up! You are a thief! You are a criminal!…..." My sister was not also spared of the harassment. At that point, I had to raise my voice attracting passerby's who also demanded to know when having a foreign contact has become a crime. Suddenly, their oga instructed them to move. I don't know how the thoughts came to me but before they moved, I jumped out of the bus through the window. With the heightened tension and the increasing number of people gathering there, they just threw my phone at me and sped off.
The following day, a friend of mine suggested I make a report at a police station. I took the advice and went to Alagbon Police Statio, Ikoyi. Do you know what they told me there? That since they no longer have my phone, I shouldn't worry, that "It's a normal thing". The Nigerian police literally told me that harassment of innocent citizens is a normal thing. Who else do I report to?
My understanding is that there are dozens of similar cases that go unnoticed daily especially in Lagos. As it is, I think the only way police brutality may be put to a near end is by giving such cases as much publicity as possible. May be at some point in the future, someone in a position of authority may be touched to take genuine actions to put an end to it and not just pay lip service. Sorry man, the police force in Nigeria is a disgrace to the uniform. I experienced such last year. This my experience belo: https://www.nairaland.com/2519144/how-nairalander-got-harassed-ago-okota |

coolsix: There are many Ways....
1.) Bank Wire:- You must have a domiciliary account and with the new CBN Restrictions, its gonna be hard to get one and fund it!
2.) PayPal:- The person must have a PayPal account and its not fast because the person would first receive the money in his PayPal account and then transfer to his bank! Before that he has to verify his identity with PayPal, all these processes can take up to a week even more before the person gets cash!
3.) Moneygram:- I have never used this! Dont know how it works but people say it does!
4.) VdsPay:- The person does not need to have a VdsPay account as the money would be delivered to the Person's Bank Account Directly Within A Day or Two(Unlike PayPal). You simply send the money using your Credit/Debit Card online. Easy and convenient.
5.) Xoom:- Another website that can let you send money using a Credit Card. But i think they only support Visa Cards or so. not sure Thanks a million for the info |

Start with HTML 5 , CSS3 and JS.
Then learn bootstrap and phonegap.
With that you build something nice.
For mobile compilers, you can use Intel Xdk. With the languages above you can use it.
When you are quite proficient in that you can learn Java or C# or C++
But I would recommend C++ because it's fun
Anyway make sure you make Google your best friend.
For any other thing, you are always welcome to ask questions here.
Have fun developing Thanks a million for ur advice |

Nairaland General › How A Nairalander Got Harassed By Ago-okota Division Policemen by funkyprof(op): 9:23pm On Aug 11, 2015 |
On the 10th of August between 11:45am to 12:30pm, I boarded a motorized tricycle (popularly referred to as Marwa) from around Marcity bus stop to Ago-round about.
I was on my way to repair my laptop since it was faulty and had it in my laptop bag. I was browsing on my phone and was seated at the back seat of the Marwa and was the only passenger aboard while the driver looked for more passengers along the way.
On getting towards Century bus stop, a policeman carrying a machine gun in front of the Ago-Okota Police Divison beckoned on the Marwa driver to slow down. The policeman who stopped us was dark in complexion, around his mid twenties to early thirties, of average height and slightly plump & was wearing the black and black police unifor. From their exchanges (between the policeman and the Marwa driver), I could tell they had met before. The policeman then turned and saw me browsing on mobile with my laptop bag on my laps. He asked me to get down from the Marwa which I did. I tried to find out what I had done wrong but he gave me no explanation and asked me to follow him to the station and left the Marwa driver to go. He also stopped another lad from the Marwa behind my own and asked him to come along with him to the station. No introduction or the reason why we were stopped was given.
We entered through the gates of the Ago-Okota police station and followed the police man to the first bungalow on the left. There we saw a few other policemen and other people they had most likely stopped before we came. The policeman who brought me in then asked another young looking lad in plain clothes who was probably a policeman to search me. The man that was asked to search me was dark in complexion, slim, of average height and probably between the ages of 24-30.
During the search, this young policeman started with the question “May I know you and where you work?” I gave him my National ID card and told him that I was unemployed. I then explained that I was on my way to repair my laptop and requested why I was brought to the station as the previous policeman did not have the courtesy of introducing himself or telling me why I was brought to the station. The policeman then told me that they were conducting a stop and search operation and then proceeded to search my pockets.
He then collected my mobile phone and started going through my gallery, contacts, messages, bbm chats, whatsapp chats and other personal and social media accounts. I then asked him why he was reading through my personal messages and social media accounts to which he responded that it was part of the stop and search operation. This part infuriated me but I managed to keep my calm. He spent about 15 mins going through my private messages after which to search my laptop bag.
I told him I had nothing to hide and showed him my laptop bag. He then collected my laptop and tried to on it but because it was faulty, it refused to boot. After spending about 5mins trying to on it, he asked for my laptop charger and asked his colleague called Idowu to help him plug the charger to the socket. Obviously, he thought the laptop battery must have been drained and wanted to attempt powering it on again while plugged into the socket.
On plugging the laptop to power, he attempted several times to on my laptop to no avail. Feeling frustrated, he gave me back my laptop, charger and phone and told me that I could go.
I left that police station feeling very violated and angry. I have never had my privacy so invaded in my life and the worst part was that it was done by the police force that are meant to be protecting life and property. I am however thankful to God that I got out in one piece and that no false story was fabricated against me while in the police station. I have heard countless stories of the police making up stories against innocent citizens.
It is time for things to really change in this country. The Nigerian Police Force is beyond corrupt and the Ago-Okota Division in Lagos State is one of the most corrupt divisions in the country. I pray that we do not continue like this in country and that all corrupt officers in the police force and other parastatals are weeded out and made to face the music.
From this my experience, I can confidently tell you that there are lots of innocent souls languishing in prisons for no just cause as the Nigeria Police Force only recognizes money as its friend. They are not interested in protecting lives and property but in extorting money from innocent civilians. May God save in this country because what we have are thieves in uniform. |

The problem is that most employers do not give feedback, so job seekers has not idea on which areas to improve on. Secondly, some employers reject people for really stupid reasons, state of origin, tribe, religion, age, marital status etc and they can't tell you that in a feedback cos they know very well that they are wrong and that you could sue them.

Tuntheycr7: This morning, as I landed in Lagos, I made to the nearest GTB to transact. The queue from inside the banking hall to the bank entrance was crazy. They are customers who wanna register for their BVN, I was told. Today is the last day for registration, they said. I wished them well as I aligned with the shorter queue for customers who wanna deposit cash. Soon, from the BVN queue, a woman began to scream. The only thing I was able to pick from the scream, 'se ori meji loni ni? (does he have two heads?' I stepped out of my queue, to go and gbeborun, to see what or who was tormenting this woman. These GTB staff that are always garbed in white military-like uniform; are they drivers or security men? About three of them had just came in with one whiteman. And they took the whiteman straight to the lady at the BVN desk. And the lady, too, was already attending to the whiteman while the queue watched, and waited, except this woman. For a moment, I observed things. The woman screaming against this white supremacy on the soil of Africa is one local market woman. I figured through her dressing, the way she tied her purse around her waist, and when she lamented that they left their wares to come join this queue since they heard the exercise was gonna close today. The men in white and the whiteman weren't bothered by the woman's noise. It was a case of allowing the dog bark all it can till it can bark no more. The people on the queue were indifferent. Some of them, their looks carried the undertone, 'shey this woman wey dey shout want oyinbo to join the queue ni? Haba!' I stepped into the circle, calming the woman. And then, I took the fight from there. I banged the desk twice, and instantly I got everyone's attention. How can these men in white bring this man in and wouldn't tell him to join the queue? I began. Hey madam, pointing to GTB staff by the BVN desk, you can only attend to this man when he joins the queue! Who are you? One of the idiots in white turned at me. I jega'ed him. I am a ten year old customer of GTB, I said, with a brief smile. At this point, everything stood still. Tell this man to join the queue, I insisted. When the whiteman's eyes met mine, I expected him to talk. He didn't. I did the talking. Is this how you do from where you come from, huh? I threw into his face. Is this how you will connive with staff to jump over the queue when at the Barclays Bank in London or the Royal Bank in Edinburgh or Dime Savings Bank of New York? Ha, we don't do like that here in Nigeria o. We follow due- process. Mafi bredi komi lomi obe je, ogbeni oyinbo! L'Eko Ile? Oma to sori queue yen ni se. He folded his arms and looked on imperiously. At this point, the bank top officials had gathered around. There were attempts to 'rescue' the whiteman to their office upstairs. I halted it. The moment I noticed, I told them that if they go attend to the whiteman upstairs, I will tell everyone on the queue to march upstairs, too. And then, they resorted to begging. And even the woman whose fight I had taken ownership of started to beg me. Otito Baba Oko mi, she pleaded. No, oyinbo MUST join the queue! Their pleading fuelled my anger. What is that? These things that come with neo-imperialism sha. I've also heard about how whitemen smoke in places marked No Smoking at the Nigerian airport, and they go, without being penalised as would Nigerian offenders.
