Today is Independence day but from time to time, I am tempted to ask "is there anything really to celebrate?"
- Our youths are lost and hungry with no jobs - The rate of insecurity in the country is appalling - The rate of bribery and corruption is nothing to write home about - Our roads and infrastructure is in disrepair and I can go on and on and on.
I do not think that this is the Nigeria our fathers fought to build when we gained independence in 1960. Even Ghana our next door neighbour has overtaken Nigeria in development.
When I listen to the song Great Nation by Timi Dakolo, I am filled with hope that things will get better.
- That our youths will no longer be fighting to go aboard because there will be too many job opportunities to keep everybody happy, - That Nigeria will wake from been the sleeping giant of Africa to being the action giant of Africa - That our politicians will put the interest and welfare of the people of Nigeria before their own selfish interests and again, I can go on and on and on.
While hoping and praying for that day to come, I leave you all with this powerful video by Timi Dakolo. May Nigeria rise up from her slumber to be the great nation she's destined to be.... Amen!!!
With regards to pple in the forum being cruel on this forum, don’t let it get to u. It’s kinda of like a Nigerian thing. Some will tease, some will be kind but u’ve got to have a thick skin and laugh off the teasing and the hating. Don’t take it to heart.
In regards to ur current problem with the 9ja guy, I’ve checked out ur pic & see u’ve got an A in statistics, so physically u are on point. I understand ur guy’s point about being having being in some bad relationships in the past. Since u’ve already told him how u feel, u could try giving him some space as mentioned by others. Let him get to miss ur presence and he shud come around.
On ur own part, u could try learning how to prepare some Nigerian food. Nigerian men luv their food like the saying goes “the way to a man heart is thru his stomach”. There’s something sexy about a fine ass chick u can cook wonders. And when she is a foreigner & can cook wonders, it turns the sexiness up a notch. It can even stir him towards considering u for marriage. We usually reward abundantly in bed after a good meal …lol . Talk about unleashing the dragon . Just keep it real, be urself around him & I wish u good luck.
@everyone, pls do I need to have admission letter printed from jamb site for the screening or will my jamb result slip be enough for me to register? I am confused as the unilag site does not list it as a requirement while the edificationinfo site does
Pls I just learnt of the UNILAG registration exercise now, I didn’t know registration has already commenced since I tot nothing was going on because of the ASSU strike. Please what is the first step for me to take in my registration?
I have all the required documents necessary for my registration and I will be grateful if u can all assist me on how to proceed. Also, my dept is Education Technology & I would like to hook up with anyone who is from this dept.
@donkingblaza, @jegak and @metamorphus11, pls how long after the aptitude test did it take for you to be called for an interview and for those of you that were called for the sales & marketing roles, what kind of questions were u asked in the interview?
@imperiouxx, I don't know how well LinkedIn works in Nigeria but I will give it a try. The annoying thing is that companies keep asking for experience, if graduates are not being employed in jobs or internships, where will the experience come from?
Some go as far as listing 24-26yrs as a requirement in their job description and using age as a requirement in employment is discrimination. In standard HR practice, you do not need to put your age, religion, state of origin or even marital status in an application as it is a basis for bias but in Nigeria, everything goes. And as ASUU is almost always on strike, how do companies actually believe that students will graduate at the age of 24-26? Except you are schooling in a private university or abroad which is not subject to ASUU strike.
Truth be told, companies are been unrealistic in their job descriptions and requirements. Most are unwilling to train employees and even when you end up training yourself with certifications, most are reluctant to offer anything other than peanuts.
Honestly, this is the question I ask myself everyday. On job boards, almost everyday, you see "MASSIVE RECRUITMENT" here and there. Who exactly is being recruited and how many pple can testify to being recruited from such job ads? I customize my CV & cover letter for each role I apply for but hardly get any feedback. Been for some tests & interviews but on offer yet. I
Please did anyone else get this text message today:

Please I am intending to do a certification course in IT so as to improve my job prospects as I am also an IT graduate. My problem is knowing which computer training centers offer quality training and certifications as they all promise to be well certified and professionals but I fear that some of them are just there to collect money without leaving you any better at the end of the program than when you first came in at the start of the program.
I will really appreciate your opinions on the best 3 computer training centers in Lagos that give value for money and their locations as I have heard that some branches of such centers teach far better than their counterparts. Thanks in advance
I have been invited for an interview with vconnect and I am thinking of going for either their consultancy role or their content writer role. I was wondering if anyone in the house knows if they pay well and which of these roles will be more lucrative. I have got a Bachelors in one of the physical sciences and a Masters in IT abroad as well as some professional certifications. Thanks for your response in advance.
