Renovated by Donald Duke. As I said earlier. Read before you reply.
Were cable cars there initially before Donald Duke "renovated" the place? You're just trying to be clever by half.
TravelRe: Abandoned Obudu Cattle Ranch Resort by funshint(m): 6:27pm On Jul 14, 2025
obama30:
Obudu Cattle Ranch was initially established for cattle ranching but was later developed into a popular tourist resort. It started as a cattle ranch in 1949, but in 1951, the Eastern Nigerian Development Corporation acquired it and began transforming it into a tourist destination. The resort, now known as Obudu Mountain Resort, retains its original name alongside its current status.

The Obudu Cattle Ranch, now known as Obudu Mountain Resort, was initially established as a cattle ranch in 1951 by Scottish rancher M. McCaughley and Hugh Jones. It was later developed into a tourist destination with the addition of chalets, a restaurant, and other facilities. The resort is located in Cross River State, Nigeria, near the border with Cameroon, and is known for its temperate climate, stunning scenery, and recreational activities.

Build by colonial masters for Eastern protectorate cattle ranch at Obudu district, known as Obudu cattle, it was one of old Eastern region government cattle ranch, both milk and meat was coming out from there before creation of states then follow by civil war. When this ranch was working, nothing as Fulanis cow in entire Eastern region. This ranch was for Bull not this Fulanis mad cow that is full of cholesterol. It was intentionally abandoned by federal government and state government control by federal to enable northerners sell their cow to us and paralyzed us from rearing our Bull in this ranch. It was renovated by Donald Duke, but the government did not put back the bulls and other needed items to makes it work.

The Eastern Nigerian Development Corporation acquired the ranch with the intention of turning it into a tourist center, adding amenities like chalets and a restaurant.
1960s:
Dr. M.I. Okpara, then Premier of the Eastern Region, is credited with further developing the resort, adding recreational facilities like the cable cars and expanding lodging.
Stop lieing...the cable cars and other facilities were introduced by Gov Donald Duke. Na who sabi Obudu cattle ranch as a resort centre pre-2000 ?

DeLaRue:
Just building a flashy project that lacks a sound business case is bound to fail.

The place is remote with the nearest airport being a few hours away.

Yet, it was planned with the expectation that it would attract visitors from all over Nigeria, and West Africa.

Please why would someone leave Lagos for example, spend 2 hours to get to a Lagos airport, fly may be an hour to Calabar, then get into a car for another 2 hrs or more of road travel on an average road, to get to Obudu huh

For leisure and shopping? That you can't get in Lagos, or any other big city abi?

With the way Nigerian airlines cancel flights incessantly, Lagos to Obudu could easily be a 2 day journey.

The state's successor Governors are right not to pour more money down the drain.
For you to talk like this it shows you're very myopic and lack exposure. That place is an international resort capable of generating millions of dollars for the state govt if it was well managed. Same thing happened to the Calabar Tinapa free trade zone. Shame on all the governors of cross river starting from Liyel Imoke. That's why I like Lagos; there's always continuity of projects. Thank God Ambode was quickly kicked out; Lagos monorail would have been added to the list of abandoned Nigerian projects. There are many resort locations around the world that are not even close to airports but foreigners will gladly go there so far there's good access road and the facilities are well maintained. You need to change your opaque mindset.
*The state govt should just sell the place to a capable private concern. It's now clear that govts are incapable of running some things.

Nonsense post....Adeleke will win his re-election under any party he wishes to contest. He's well loved by the people unlike Oyetola who was a slowpoke. He's even proved this by his redundancy as Minister. Just waiting for approval from Jagaban he's in whether you like it or not. Tinubu needs Osun for his re-election thus he won't blink twice to have Adeleke on his side.

Under this same man Nigeria missed going to South Africa AFCON in 1998 just because Mandela pleaded for the release of Abiola and return to democracy. Man was a blood thirsty wicked soul.

Yorubas can not differentiated by religion. It is you Igbos that think like these, believing Yoruba Muslims voted for Buhari because he is Muslim and also for Tinubu.

Osun state is about 75% Muslim. Their governor is a Christian, and his mum is Igbo. His first wife is Igbo. His nephew, Davido's wife is Igbo.

A Yoruba Muslim is many times more likely to marry a Yoruba Christian, than a Hausa Muslim. Yoruba Muslims are too liberal for Northerners. They drink anyhow and don't observe religiously the call to prayer 5 times a day.
Na for your mind Osun state is 75% Muslim! A state were the largest sub-group are the Ijeshas who are majorly Christians. Almost 2/3rd of Osun state is populated by Christian.

Baby analysis....even if he doesn't become President. Kwakwanso will never turn down the opportunity to become a VP on a plata of gold. No matter how popular he may be in the north, it's still not enough to make him President as evidenced by the last election result. It's a combination of Northern and Southern votes that makes one a President. So just rest, Kwakwanso won't pass on the free opportunity to become a VP rather than Senate that you're postulating. wink

Only a Kwakwanso/PeterObi combination can wrestle power from Tinubu at the moment if both agree to run together with Kwakwanso as the flag bearer and PO as running mate. Note the combination "Kwak/PO"; not "PO/Kwak". Kwakwanso being a higher level politician will never agree to deputize PO. Also PO may agree to deputize him but his "Obedient" supporters may prevent him from doing that. Now based on the reforms and policies he has initiated which has brought about some level of hardship, Tinubu knows his 2nd term ambition may be very difficult. So what does he do? His best bet is to bring in a Kwakwanso who enjoys a cult-like following in the north, something Shettima lacks though I see him being promised a very powerful ambassadorial post after his term as VP. Kwakwanso can still agree to deputize Tinubu being a much higher level politician and an incumbent President for that matter. For Kwakwanso it's a case of "Half bread is better than none". He has no clearer path of coming close to Presidency than this ticket because though he enjoys a cult-like following in the north, it's still not enough to make him President without Southern votes. In conclusion if this Tinubu/Kwakwanso combination happens to be true, then Tinubu has made a master chess move on the other candidates. wink

The Fulani oligarchs in Nasarawa won't let the Christian majority produce a governor. The last election in the state was one of the ugliest state election ever in the history of this country. The election was brazenly rigged in Lafia LG. One of the worst election result ever. But God will soon shock them in a way they never expect.
