Former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Jude Imagwe, has hailed the judgement by the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday ordering the Department of State Services to immediately release pro-democracy campaigner, Omoyele Sowore, from detention as a victory for democracy.

Imagwe, who spoke to SaharaReporters shortly after the verdict, said that the DSS should respect the decision of the court and release Sowore.

He said, “Today is a victory for freedom of speech and victory to right of association and above all for democracy.

“We are hoping that the DSS will respect that and understand the fact that a court of competent jurisdiction has given a verdict.

“Sowore has explained his ordeal in the hands of the security personnel and we hope that the ruling of the court will be respected.

“Citizens are ripe to know their rights and demand for better living, accountability and responsibility.”

A Nigerian woman has found herself in serious trouble after being arrested for allegedly scamming a church N100 million.


Iwuagwu Onyinyechi

A 39-year old woman identified as Iwuagwu Onyinyechi, has been arrested by the Ogun police command for allegedly defrauding a Christian faith-based organisation to the sum of N100m, under the pretence of assisting the organisation to raise fund for its charity programme.

The police command in a statement on Sunday by its spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said Onyinyechi’s arrest followed a petition written by a Lagos-based lawyer of the organisation, Godswill Ojakovo, to the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, in which he complained that his client was defrauded by the suspect through an act of forgery.

According to Oyeyemi, the suspect claimed to have got a Local Purchase Order (LPO) from a property company and appealed to the organisation to help fund the LPO, consequent upon which a sum of N33.118m was transferred into to her bank account.

While the organisation was awaiting the repayment of the loan, the suspect came with another two LPOs she claimed to have got from a Catholic Hospital, Iju and a private school in Ikorodu, Lagos State, upon which another sum of N77m was given to her, after convincing the organisation with relevant documents and proofs to back her claims.

But as soon as the suspect got the last payment in September 2018, she disappeared into thin air and this prompted the organisation to make discreet inquiries about the LPOs she submitted and found out that both of them were forged.

“Upon the petition, the Commissioner of Police Ogun State, Ahmed Iliyasu, directed his monitoring team to go after the suspect and bring her to book. The team technically tracked the suspect and got her arrested on January 21, 2019.

“On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime by admitting that the LPOs presented by her were forged and some of the companies she claimed to be the owners of the LPOs, were made up by her.

“Meanwhile, the CP has directed the monitoring team to arraign the suspect in court as soon as the investigations are concluded,” DSP Oyeyemi stated.

So many times i wonder what kind of govt we have in this part of the world. This is not the first time Nigerians are being attacked all over the world and the best our govt we do every time is to DIALOGUE. Aisha Falode's son was killed, same as Alamesigha's son as well as other countless Nigerians are being killed everywhere everyday and yet our govt keeps using the blood of our Brothers and Sisters all over the world to appease the VAMPIRES. If Nigerians over there are being discriminated against, we should reciprocate here too. For crying out loud, foreigners are being killed even in the presence of Law enforcement Agencies. Nigerian Govt, enough of playing the good Brother for a Country we supported in gaining independence but sees us as a Brother to do away with even if it means destroying our properties and killing us!
