There was never a time when Boris Johnson said they were not going to accept a peace deal from Russia, you are still talking propaganda. Russia first annexed Crimea in 2014 was that also because they wanted to join NATO, they wanted to join NATO because Russia annexed Crimea from them without any resistance whatsoever. So if you were the Ukrainian president and Russia so easily annexed one of your biggest oil-rich islands, you would not look for a way to get a strong, formidable ally to protect you.
