EXPLICIT REPORT ON THE PURCHASE OF THE FIRST TRANSPORTATION BUS...

This is the second time I will be writing on the bus issue because it has generated into what I did not expect nor plan. Some people want to use this avenue to hijack the union, paint me black, soil my name, tarnish my integrity and make people lose hope in my leadership. But as President, I remain resolute to truthfulness, transparency and trust.

How the money for the bus came?
It has never been in the history of this union that the University management releases backlog dues. When I came on board as President, I made the university management to understand why they have to release our backlog during the time the union was on suspension. Initially they opposed it, but I demanded it has to be released because it is our money. Later, the management agreed to release it, which was totalled to be 7.3 Million Naira on the basis that there must be something tangible we have to use the money for if they have to release it. Having fully understood the plight of students at bus stop at night and in accordance to my manifesto of easing the stress we face at bus stop at night by getting transportation buses, I made the management to understand that we need buses and we shall use the backlog to get buses. After making their findings they agreed to my proposal of getting buses and 3Million Naira was first released for us to get a bus, show them, defend it before releasing other funds. It should be clear to all that the money was deliberately released for bus and as such it can not be spent otherwise because the university management will also audit us on how we spent the money.

When the money came, how we got the bus
The money for the bus came days after we had the first congress that suspended the speaker‎ and dissolved the committees due to the petition written to the congress. At that point there was committee to deal with, and in the absence of such, work of the union cannot stop, the executive can keep working and when the committees are newly constituted, they shall be well informed. So, we went ahead to seeing how we shall get the first bus. We consulted four dealers and negotiated to the barest minimum. The first said 3.5Million Naira, the second said 2.9 Million, the third said 3.2Million and the fourth said 2.5Million. Before we went ahead with it, we met with the mechanics at the university maintenance to help us find out the amount the bus is sold because Department of Accounting has such which we saw at maintenance that day and the mechanics told us the bus is 3.5Million Naira from Lagos. After making all these findings, we went ahead with the dealer that said 2.5Million and we got the bus which is a Tokunbo Bus and Grade 1 (Not Nigerian used) as been reffered to by dealers.

Buses on Jiji, Jumia etc
While we were consulting dealers on how much the bus is being sold, we went online also as students and we saw a lot of such buses on Jiji, Jumia etc. Mechanics advised us never to get such buses even though they are quite cheaper, but we warned not to get buses from Jiji or jumia or any online seller because we cannot be so sure of the engine and majority of such buses are Nigerian used. In the process of making our findings, we were made to understand that we could get 14-seaters of Passat/Volkswagen for 1.4Million Naira but we should not go for such as they break down easily just like the ones we had in the union about 3 sessions ago that are no longer functioning, but should rather go for Toyota products.

Controversy, lack of trust and allegations
I am not unaware of all the controversy, lack of trust and allegations that has emanated since the purchase‎ of this transportation bus. Some are saying I inflated the amount, some are saying I have stolen money, some even said I am a thief, some are saying I should be impeached, some are even saying I should not be trusted and some are moving around one place to another to use this avenue to turn the students against me and hijack the union. Greatest Ife! Articulate Ife!! Yes, 2.5M is a big money which is making everyone think the bus is not up to that or I have inflated the amount. As President, I can say it anywhere anytime, the amount of the bus was never inflated and I will never do that, I am not corrupt and I will never. This union is not an end, it is just a means to an end and as such I can never soil my name or tarnish my name as we all have a long way to go. We are the ones this country is waiting for to save it from these corrupt leaders, and if we that the country is waiting for are now fraudulent in our dealings, then what is the hope of this country? What I fear most in my life is financial scandal and that is why I will never be involved in such because a good name is better than silver and gold. On this note, I challenge everyone who wants to investigate or making findings as regards to the amount the bus was bought, whether it was inflated or not, whether it has financial scandal or not to investigate and if it is proven to the world that I inflated the amount or I am involved in financial scandal, *I shall resign as President* immediately because what is the essence of being a leader when those you are leading cannot trust you.

On the pictures sent around
I must state that the person that took the picture of the bus only wanted to tarnish my name, because he took the picture after the bus has been used since morning and got dirty, just to make people think I inflated the amount the bus was bought. The bus is always parked at SUB, everyone is free to get close to the bus, check it extensively, take pictures and show it around to dealers or people that know about bus and make your findings and facts about the price.

On the type of bus
The bus is a Toyota Hiace 14 Seaters Bus. Dealers refer to such type as Grade 1 Tokunbo as it was never used in Nigeria, it is straight from US. All expected to be there are intact, we did not do anything to it, seats came with it, the steering was not changed from right to left‎. A lot of past alumni have been calling me on why it generated to such issue as they said the bus even costs more that 2.5Million but I made them to know some people wants to use it to tarnish my image. But I will never allow them succeed. And now, I am challenging all who thinks I inflated the price or I am involved in financial scandal, to make proper findings, bring up facts and figures and if proven that I am involved in financial scandal, then I shall seize to be President.

To Great Ife Students
Greatest Ife! Articulate Ife!! As your President, I have been up and doing to ensure I serve you dilligently. These are trying times for me as President because there is no such thing that spoils one's name as financial scandals, I can boldly tell you that I am not corrupt and I will never be because this Presidency is not my end and we are those to make this country great and as such I need us all to come together as one as a union and never allow some people use lies to divide us all because they want to get hard on me.

If it is later discovered that the price is not 2.5m, then the Dealer, president and Financial Secretary have a lot to answer of which I am ready to follow it to the last.

I am still wondering how the Op arrived at the conclusion that the bus was procured for 3millon.

Firstly, this thread is misleading, as the Op didn't give any data to validate that the bus was really procured at that price.

ON THE FIRST TRANSPORTATION SCHEME BUS OF THE UNION...

Our union is the greatest, our union is the alpha and omega, our union is the almighty, no one is above our union. *Oyekan Ibukun Edward.*‎

Ever since I became President, I have never come out to reply critics. But, I believe it is very important at this point for me to come out and clear the air because of the lies that have been flying around lately to dent my name and leadership.‎

Greatest Ife! Articulate Ife!! The union has successfully gotten a 14-seater Toyota bus for *transportation scheme* and not for *Union Movement* after noticing the challenges students face at night at bus stop. Commercial drivers on campus are not allowed to be on campus after 9pm, this always cause transportation challenges to students who want to go back to gate/town after 9pm on campus, and this necessitated the idea of the union getting buses for *transportation scheme* within campus such that when you are on campus till 9pm, 10pm, you are rest asured there is a bus that will drop you at the gate.

*What necessitated the purchase of a 14-seater Toyota bus?*‎

We initially wanted to go for a 18-seater bus but we observed it will be too long for a transportation scheme within campus and as such we settled for a 14-seater which is moderate for a transportation scheme on campus.

*Why Toyota?*

Having fully understood that Toyota products are the best and knowing fully well that Toyota products are strong, durable and lasting, we settled to go for Toyota products, though quite expensive. It is better to go for what is expensive but strong, durable and lasting than to get what is cheap but weak and not durable. Few sessions ago, the union got 2 buses for transportation scheme but today, the rest is history. Even though poor managememt maybe part of the issues behind the failure then, those buses were Passat products and even Nigerian used. But as President, I will rather not go for anything than going for what is not the best. And as such we went for Toyota even though we all know Toyota products are expensive.

*On the amount the bus was bought?*‎

I have seen a lot of posts from some students who said we claimed to have gotten the bus for 3Million Naira. That is absolutely not true. It is a total lie. As President, I have never disclosed the amount the bus was bought to the public. I was surprised at the extent some people can go just to dent an individual's image and pull him down. Greatest Ife! Ariticulate Ife!! This union is not an end, it is just a means to an end and as such as President, I cannever use this means to an end to spoil my end. I can boldy say it anywhere, I am not corrupt and I will never be. I am not fraudulent in all my dealings and I will never be.  As President, this is just a stepping stone, if we fail here, we have failed the country looking up to us to save her from the current set of corrupt leaders we have. I would have loved to state the amount the bus was bought here but for accountablity, I want anyone who is interested or anyone who is vast about buses to find out how much a *Grade 1 Tokunbo Toyota 14-seater Bus* is being sold anywhere and put the amount public ‎for all students to see, after then we will release the amount, the receipt and location of where the bus was gotten from. Greatest Ife! Articulate Ife!! Let us desist from hearsay and go with facts and figures as intellectuals that we are. As President, I never said the bus was gotten for 3 Million Naira, anyone one spreading such is hell-bent on tarnishing my image and inciting students against my leadership. *Greatest Ife beware of such liars.*

*Why not use the Students Union Coaster Bus?*‎

The time students suffer transportation challenges the most on campus is at night by 8pm and above because the commercial drivers will not be allowed to be on campus by 9pm due to security purposes. The crowdedness always at bus stop at that time is always alarming and anytime I come out of SUB at night and I see such, I cry within and feel bad. Initially we wanted to be using the Students' Union Coaster Bus to transport students to gate every night but the only challenge we faced was who to drive the big coaster bus at‎ night. The drivers that do drive the bus told us they cannot work at that late time (8pm - 10pm) and as such we could not use the Students' Union Coaster Bus.

*Can one bus serve 35,000 students?*‎

The ‎essence of getting that bus was not to transport 35,000 students at once. The main reason why the union will be getting buses for transportation scheme is to solve the crowdedness at night (after 9pm when commercial drivers will be off) at the bus stop. Yes, one might not be effective for now but Rome was not built in a day. When the Western Region started University of Ife in 1962, they started with just 4 faculties, no one complained that how will 4 faculties accomodate all secondary school leavers in Southwest then, and by 1982, the University had additional faculties and even a College of Health Sciences. Yes, one bus might not be very effective now, but we need to start somewhere, a legacy that others can follow and develop. How will you feel as someone that stays in town, maintenance or gate and after leaving the library by 9.30pm, instead of being stranded as usual because commercial drivers are off, you easily get a bus that will conviniently take you to gate. Very soon, the second one will come. By the time we have two transportation buses, under proper management and good maintenance, transportation challenges and crises at night on our campus will be history.

At this point, let it be clear to everyone that as President I have never been involved in any fraudulent action and I will never do such because we are those this country is waiting ‎for and as such we much set good examples from now so that we will do it better when we get there. As President, Great Ife Students' Union, I am leading the most intellectual and radical students in Africa and as such I dare not decieve you because if I do, I am dead!!! But please, lets us all beware of liars that will always want to divide us.

EducationColumn Publishers Scams Students by Fynestboi(mod): 8:51am On Jun 13, 2017
LETTER OF COMPLAINT
With due respect to the general public, I, Adelakun Temitope Adeyinka, a student of Obafemi Awolowo University write to complain about an outright fraudulent and dishonorable act which has slighted and disturbed me mentally. I have also chosen to write this letter of complaint that the culprit may be brought to book.
On October 8, 2016 or thereabouts, I was declared the undergraduate first prize winner of a national debate and essay writing contest organized by the Column Publishers with a web address thecolumnmedia.com and an email address columnpublishers@gmail.com. Permit me to add that this essay contest designed to celebrate independence has a prize tag of a hundred thousand naira (N100, 000) and one year writing contract each for the first prize winners in both undergraduate and public categories.
After what took like forever to hold, the prize giving ceremony was slated for 30th March, 2017, some five months after I won the contest. This event took place at Conference Hall, Prixair hotel, 14 Cotonou street, Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, with different radio and T.V stations covering the event.
On the said date, after a hundred thousand naira boldly written on a cardboard was presented to my representative, she waited for either the cheque or cash after the programme, but was told by Mr Chuks Akamadu, the organizer, managing director, and editor-in-chief of the Column Publishers that I would be reached and paid in due time. I waited.
On April 13, 2017, some two weeks after the presentation of award, I got a Facebook message from Chuks Akamadu stating: “Send your account details to me and I’d endeavor to pay you full in two instalments within the next 30 days. Thanks for your commendable patience.” I sent him my account details and waited as usual.
On the 10th of May 2017, I reminded him of his commitment and hoped to get my full payment by May 13, 2017, but was shocked after he said via a text message that I was planning a brilliant but unhelpful blackmail. Undeterred, I waited till May 13, 2017, for my hard-earned money. May 13, 2017 passed and I still did not receive my money from him. I was angry.
At that point, I sent him a text that I was going to involve Association of Campus Journalists, pro bono lawyer(s), Students' Union body, and even Eugenia Abu, one of the speakers of the event. Strangely, he rang me twice but I chose not to answer his calls.
I informed ACJ’s president who thought it wise to hear from him before taking action. He promised the ACJ’s president that he was going to pay on Tuesday, 23rd of May 2017. As a reminder, I sent him my account details on the eve of the 23rd of May, 2017 to that effect. After waiting in vain for bank alert, I was not just angry but was furious.
On the 24th of May, 2017, I informed the Obafemi Awolowo University Students’ Union body and a letter demanding that I get paid on or before Saturday 27th May, 2017 was released and sent to him via columnpublishers@gmail.com. To be sure that he received the mail, a text message was also sent to his personal phone number (08035091121). 27th May, 2017 passed and he still did not pay me my money. At that point, I was no longer furious but was incandescent with rage.
Having seen that he is not willing to pay honorably, I am writing that the general public weigh in on this man (Chuks Akamadu) so that this would serve as detterents to other potential "Chuks Akamadu." Enough damage has been done to my psyche, already.
Thank you!

EducationOAU Students Union Clarifies Sahara Reporters' on June 12 Symposium by Fynestboi(mod):
In response to the report on Sahara Reporter news made on 7th of June 2017, in which it was clearly stated that Great Ife Students Condemn Invitation Of Deputy Speaker Lasun And Top Politicians For June 12 Democracy Event(For more info Click here
Great Ife Students Union has found it imperative and thoughtful to clarify the issues as we see this as an unfounded generalization.

THE CENTRAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL

Great Ife Students' Union

The Genuine Position of OAU Students on the June 12 Political Symposium: OAU Students reaffirm and uphold the invitation of Rt. Hon. Lasun Yusuf and other invited politicians

The attention of the Union has been drawn to a report on Sahara Reporter claiming that OAU students reject the invitation of politicians to the Union June 12 Political Symposium being organised by OAU Students' Union. The report is not only misleading but a sheer misrepresentation of the interest and position of the generality of Great Ife students.

It should be noted that such a scurrilous report has been sponsored by some aggrieved individuals who are always interested in causing commotion in the University Community by imposing their socialist ideology on Students and thereby sending a wrong signal to members of the public.

The Union leaders, having the legitimacy and mandate of students hereby use this medium to clearly and unambiguously condemn those behind the misleading report and even the media platform that published such a story without conducting a thorough research to know the true and genuine position of students about our choice of Rt. Hon. Lasun Yusuf, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa and Rt. Hon. Najeeem Salaam.

They are all Parliamentarians who have been representing their various constituencies. It is the opinion of the Union that the symposium will be a suitable platform for them to give account of their stewardship and also join other speakers such as Edmond Obilo, a seasoned journalist and public affairs analyst in evaluating the growth of democracy over time.

Therefore, we encourage students and members of the public to discard and ignore their shenanigan which is mainly intended to disrupt the current peace the campus enjoys.

Myriads of theorizing upon predictions, Africa is gradually earning a swelling reputation for over romanticizing ideologies than taking bold actions to concretize her developmental fortunes. And whereas in climes where development is done than said, leaders forecast the positive impact of development on successive generations; in jurisdictions where development is preached, every rhetoric of UN, IMF, World Bank is reechoed, while we wait for Macron or Obama to win elections, or for U.S., Japan and Russia to monopolize the outer space before we begin to chant in plagiarism 'yes we can'.

But it will be uncharitable to hold that there is nothing progressive and developmental about the African continent, it is rather apposite to x-ray the pace, innovativeness and committed sincerity in actualizing meaningful development in Africa and the significant roles youth must play in the path to Africa's renewal. The truism that youths are the trustees of a nation's peace and prosperity begets the the socio-political concept of 'Youthocracy'. The idea that young people with transcendent credentials of entrepreneurial and leadership savvies, competence, patriotism, and globally liberal can re-engineer societal progress, development and peace. How then can youth's resourcefulness: intellect, energy, resilience, aspirations, time, vigor and hope be harnessed to proffer sustainable solutions to mankind's demanding challenges?

Turning against astonishing odds, young men and women globally are becoming increasingly involved in reshaping the affairs of their nations and the world. This must not be seen as an age war against the older generation, but a strategic societal partnership to translate youth's resourcefulness for social justice, peace, sustainable development and security. From Former U.S. President Barack Obama to Canadian Prime Minister Justein Trudeau, to the eloquent David Cameron of Britain, to Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras of Greece and President Emmanuel Macron of Franc, the narrative is gradually dispelling all doubts of youths' leadership capacity and capabilities.

There are legion of legal framework for youthocracy scattered all over different jurisdictions which are not limited to the International Covenant on Political and Civil Rights; Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child; the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women; the African Youth Charter; and the Nigerian National Youth Policy (2009). In Nigeria, while the advocacy for the alteration of Sections 65, 106, 131, and 177 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, to reduce the age qualification for political offices through the Not Too Young To Run Bill gains momentum, it is apt for youths to deliberately design a broader possibilities for their strategic involvements in societal affairs and decision making for development. The problem is not solely with the current legal regime that places age limit for youth's participation in elective politics, but on youths playing relevant roles that sufficiently prepare them to run at the significant time. Obama started as a community worker and even with his Harvard law certificate he knew what he wanted and most appropriate moment for him; instead of the youth from minority ethnic nations to complain all day about the politicized marginalization of the minorities in Nigeria's governance structure, political wisdom demands of them to strategically reach out to other young people in other tribes and build reliable alliances across groups while trying to understand the thinking of the diverse ethnic nations of Nigeria and their cultural richness. Through this we can intermarry, build inte-tribal and religious confidence for trust and true friendship.

In our generation, the most enabling legitimacy for youthocracy stems from the state of underdevelopment in the developing world, fearful global insecurity, widening unemployment, absence of gender and social justice amongst other social ail. Because the disasters hit us the most and because we are victims of these social challenges, the onus lies on us to lead the drive to re-engineer mankind, our nations and societies through our high-tech, entrepreneurial and leadership savvies and skills. The creed of youthocracy enshrines essential ingredients in service leadership such as sophisticated intellectual capital; progressive ideologies; rare courage and strong will for bold actions; innovation and ideas that alter status quo, and abiding patriotism that defies greed and corruption. Youthocracy produces youth that recognize the impact of their academic learning and degree on development and the promotion of societal good or nothing else. Those considered apostles of youthocracy are imbued with the credentials of credibility and uncompromising life standard for excellence, possessing unique values for services, good governance, and selfless.

With youthocracy accepted as an essential lexicon for our progress, we must then proceed to shun all unnecessary expectations for miracle or magic development, developmental revolution will prompt real development in all sectors of Nigerian economy for all components of our federation through strategic innovation for lasting change. In my earlier piece titled 'THE DEBT OF DEVELOPMENT: YOUTH & DEVELOPMENT ON TRIAL', I wrote that 'the widening state of poverty, underdevelopment, ethnic and religious sentiments across national lines call for the Nigerian youth to take corrective measures to redefining and reclaiming Nigeria's dream and greatness. Our generation in leadership must imbue ourselves with strong and patriotic characters and values to build strong institutions; build our economy for global competitiveness; create newie job opportunities through sustainable economic diversifications; we will build our technological sector and find new scientific solutions to old challenges; we must reestablish a global educational system that really support entrepreneurial innovations and can harness the impact of university degree on development; we must reduce the cost of governance to cater more for the welfare of our general workforce; we can not afford not to build quality healthcare system to avoid travelling abroad for every little medical attention'. Youthocracy enshrines youth's governance in diverse sectors and not necessarily politics alone as against the current sole trade in desire of many people with the syndrome of 'quick-money-through-politics'. Young people must exhibit stellar leadership exceptionalities in political, corporate, religious and traditional institutions.

Youthocracy will enact shared volunteerism in governance, reducing the 'glamorousness' of our political culture and drastically cut the cost of governance to focus more on the welfare of workers for productive and social security than the welfare of few politicians. Shared volunteerism in youthocracy means that the young leaders have to sacrifice and share their major leadership entitlements for the common benefits of the generality of the people. The young leaders have to invest more in developing both the human capital of her people and the natural resources of the state for state development.

It is already out of fashion to keep blaming the old men at the exit lodge of our nation's affairs but even more woeful if our generation turns a disastrous liability obstructing our progress, integration, security and development just as most of our retiring leaders did. The relevant youth must therefore, proclaim his usefulness through the manifestation of his content for solutions to societal issues at all time. Define your life identity; register a business and start your entrepreneurial passion no matter how small if you are business inclined; participate in electoral process if you are qualified; join voluntary or pro bono community edifying engagements; support advocacies for common societal good. The truth is these things may not immediately make you rich but will certainly define your path to genuine success in life. My fear is however engaged by youth's excessive scrambling for materialistic honour and luxury which somehow is not a fault of a handful few. Make no mistake to misconstrue my opinion as anti-richness, for God forbid that we teach poverty as a virtue or an appreciable state of life but hard work, patience and legitimacy to success are familiar factors for good society. And matter-of-factly, the society's contributory negligence and failure to institutionalize social security largely push the youth to avoidable crimes with internet fraud as an average rich youth's rescuing career. And this is the case not becaus the youths naturally desire to occupy such huge criminal identity but for the unfriendly environment and lack of opportunity to actualize one's potentials and legitimately make ends means. There is however no acceptable excuse for criminality.

And because our future is nearly butchered to emptiness by greedy politicians, we must make haste to recreate a nation of new possibilities for our generation and hope for the generations after us by harnessing our demographic and voting strength, resilience, and intelligence in defence of our democracy and development. Though it is in the best interest of governments at all levels to ensure inclusive youth participation in major decion-making and development process of our nation, the stake lies more in the hands of the young people to rekindle they role in diiferent sectors of nation building from local governments to federal level. In our time, you will be certified a great man if racism, tribalism and religious fanaticism is not found in your attribute; you will be considered rich if you cherish ideologies that promote collective good against personal greed; you are exceptional if you imbue yourself with distinguishing skills, competence and capacities to save the world, for in all these shall mankind be free.

For the youths to make lasting impact, their may consider building sustainable partnerships both in business and politics as well as other endeavours of life. Partnerships produce assurance of results where individual strength could fail. Given the large scale of our socio-economic and leadership challenges, an individual's ideas and strength may not be sufficient to execute giant developmental investments, community projects and leadership initiatives, hence, the compelling need to combine talents, skills and fund for more prosperous results. This will enable youths to credibly start up value adding ventures legitimately with better prospects for greatness. A readily instance is the All Times Law Partners projected to be Africa's largest legal partnership by 2025, offering clients expertise solutions in different aspects of law and leading in Africa's development transactions.

I love Nigeria my place of origin and the world's most naturally and humanly endowed Nation.

The hope of making Nigeria great lies in the hands, heads and hearts of the youths. May God guide us aright to reaffirm our unalloyed commitment to the Partnership for Developmental Revolution in our nation. For certainly if we work faithfully through the valley of patriotism, then the promise of building an export, technology and knowledge based economy is assured; the dream of an efficient and corrupt-free institutions will be achieved; the reality of selfless service in governance will manifest; our infrastructures will be rebuilt to provide basic amenities for the common man; and surely our nation will regain our seat of greatness among the comity of nations.
